  • @Titan604
    @Titan604 Год назад +2

    I wonder what the final all up weight will be? EE deliberately built the bodies heavy to make up for the extremely light weight power unit and got their calculations wrong so the final locomotive was overweight, leading to all sorts of desperate measures to lose weight before BR would accept them, including drilling holes in the equalizing beams on the bogies. I don't know if they did this to any class 20 bogies, but it is possible that the bogies here are also ex Baby Deltic as well as the power unit, even if they did spend most of their life under a 20!

      What you both have to remember is, that, this is a rebuilt class 37. The only original part is the Napier T9-29 diesel prime mover. That means they can learn from the originals, too make sure they aren't as bad. So all the faults will be ironed out. So the front end design then becomes irrelevant.

    • @d803albion
      @d803albion Год назад +4

      The issue with the original configuration were around the driving of auxiliaries off the engine via shafts. When rebuilt the auxiliaries were converted to electrical rather than mechanical drive which resolved many of the issues. So not related to body design . Also on Class 20 bogies which were of the same configuration IIRC. Can’t wait to see her running…

The gate was open so we went up to the engine for a look and the driver let us cab it. Now 5901 was ways coasting g through Barrowhill and I said to the driver why is it àlways so quiet. He explained it was be abuse it was a light train and it was slightly downhill. Someone then arrived with something from Barrowhill she'd and he said watch this. @@roberthill6216 Like I said. It is entirely up to them how the loco appears. However, if they are ironing out faults, the front doors on all locos were removed for two reasons. One was draughts. Evidence of that can be seen on the class 24 at the Nymr. The inside doors are covered in duct tape to keep out draughts and this is for a 25mph loco!
