Hey Matt! Ethofumesate, as you recommend to me last year, did a fantastic job on my POA Annua, and I thank you for that. I can tell because it is germinating like crazy in areas where I didn't spay. Prepping to put another app down this weekend. Thanks for all you do for us.
my strategy for triv is to pull it by hand in the spring; occasionally i use glysophate, but i always plug the spots afterwards. the war never ends but there comes a point where you get it under control and it is minimal maintenance every spring. for annua i find pre-m works well to control it but i do pull it when that fails. it helps having KBG and feeding it in small doses a few times a month to encourage the spreading which does crowd out the poa very well. if you are infested i would go full blown reno unfortunately...and that is best done in the spring which makes it even a tougher proposition...:( awesome video matt!
Would you recommend golf course Superintendents take an aggressive route to counter Poa(increase C Bent coverage), or simply slow the spread as much as possible?
Is there a way to give it a diseases...a fungus.....fungus wipe out everything if it's not contained, but easier to kill than poa. Just wondering, my plan is Tenacity at seeding for suppression and seeding at a slightly higher rate to give the grass more choking power
Thanks for this Matt. I suspect my yard is over run with Poa Triv have been trying to decide what to do with it. I do also have Poa Annua as well. Looks like I'm in for a big battle....
Matt, you hit on something I’d like clarify for us cool season guys. If our yard is a recent renovation which contains POA annua, and it’s still a bit thin, should we prioritize over seeding in the fall, or getting a pre emergent down?
thanks for the video. I got lots of POA Annua and possibly Trivialis as well as I had lots of light green spots. Plan was to NOT seed this fall, instead use pre-emergent to prevent POA seeds germinating this winter. Well, I have lots of dead spots on the lawn possibly from POA dying (specifically in very sunny spots). Really want to put down good quality seed this fall after aerating. Maybe a faster way is to kill entire spots where I see POA and overseed in fall or some POA seeds will still be out there and germinate, thus, skip fall seeding and just deal with fall pre-emergent? Also, some spots in shade still have the POA live and well, so should I kill them? thanks.
Can you please tell me the quantities of tenacity and ethofumesate to apply in the fall when re-seeding, and the number and timing of applications. What about in the spring? Amount, timing? I’m in Western North Carolina. Last fall we applied tenacity when we re-seeded, and we’re stunned by how much poa annua there is in the lawn now.
How soon after can you re-apply after seeding? I live in Virginia and my new grass doesn't grow much in 30 days. I read you need to wait 2 mows before reapply (mine won't be high enough in 30). Any tips? Granual?
A product that I have had pretty good luck on poa annua is called Proxy. I prevents the plant from creating seed heads, thus significantly slowing the spread. I typically tank mix it with tenacity to ding the plant. This mix has shown decent results controlling poa annua, but it's an ongoing battle.
Hey Matt, not related to POA but didn't you have a white board on the different liquids like wetting agents, polymers, etc... I thought it was good information and wanted to brush up and can't find it. Did you take it down? Just asking. Thanks
Great question, and I'd honestly make a judgement call lawn by lawn based on health of the turf. Adequate soil moisture, good health, good growth - closer to full rates.
What about cultural practices? Does allowing your lawn to go dormant kill off poa annua? I’m assuming you’d need to go dormant plus use pre emergent in the fall.
Letting your lawn go dormant might kill POA annual, might, but does not effect Poa triv. Poa triv goes dormant just like your lawn, and comes back better than your lawn.
Hey Matt. Have you heard of anyone using Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide? DoMyOwn.com suggested it to me for post emergent control of poa triv 0.3-0.46 fluid oz/1 gallon of water for spot spraying. It does have it listed on the label for controlling grass weeds. Just wanted to see if you have any experience or know anyone that had a positive experience with it. It's a little too late for me to probably test it out now as my temps are going to get into the 80's here in the next week. I have a combo of TTTF/KBG/rye.
When mowing properties with poannua. Are you carrying the seed to other properties? Will it continue to reproduce when mulching and going from one house to another. I probably already know the answer. Just want your imput.
Thanks for the video. I used a double rate blanket spray on my dormant St Augustine. Took 6 weeks to see results from Atrazine. Still have some POA left. Excessive rain here with weekly food warnings. Should i spray again at the end of February?
Watching the PGA last weekend at Torrey Pines and the program listed Poa Annua as a desirable grass type on the golf course. Thought that was interesting.
Does anyone know if you can spray Tenacity and Ethofumesate on the same day of seeding during the Fall? Or spray tenacity first and then a few weeks later spray ethofumesate?
I have never had experience with Poa Triv (thank God). If I did, I would just glyph it, and a few feet around it to be sure, and re-seed or use kbg plugs. Poa Triv seems to be the absolute worst grassy weed.

Outstanding info. Sounds like multiple restorations is the path
Any thoughts on Pauls Prime Cuts suggesting Aneuw for Poa?

Midnight Monoculture that’s what I have done so far, it is quite peaceful and meditative pulling poa
Any update on this strategy? Is it actually getting better over time? I am debating starting this battle or declare defeat before starting.
Just what I was about to research, perfect timing.
Would you recommend golf course Superintendents take an aggressive route to counter Poa(increase C Bent coverage), or simply slow the spread as much as possible?
Thanks Matt! This is perfect timing!
Thanks Matt, I learned a lot watching the video

What is the percentages of tank mix for your six way selective herbicide? For POA ANN AND POA TRIV? Thank you.
Thanks for this Matt. I suspect my yard is over run with Poa Triv have been trying to decide what to do with it. I do also have Poa Annua as well. Looks like I'm in for a big battle....
What gets rid of Edgar Allan Poa?
Paul Outlaw
I can't get a lot of that stuff in California, I started using my dethatcher to dig it out and reseed.

You can seed and use ethofumesate
I noticed that where i put a layer of 1/2 inch of peatmoss the poa triv doesnt grow at all, but the grass still grows
How is it working for you? What grass? Where do you live? Thank you.

Would a sod cutter be effective, or do the rhizomes/stolons grow too far under the soil?
Seeds mate. They come back from seed.
@@rebelaqua823 Poa trivialis spreads by stolons. Poa annua by seed.

For sure, PGRs are great tools for poa management!
I need to buy that Ethofumesate for my poa annua, where can I get this?
It's good to have warm season turf sometimes!
Man. I’ve missed these videos. Teach me great one

I wonder if iron will darken up triv?🤷🏽
Thx Matt! Appreciate the info and recommedations.
I guess I should just have my lawn be 100% poa!
Man. Perfect timing! I have two bunches of Poa Triv in the front.
Light it up 🚬
Great info but I'm glad I'm a warm season guy.
Thanks for the lesson!
For your mix, what rates would you be using? Full rates for each or reduced?
Great question, and I'd honestly make a judgement call lawn by lawn based on health of the turf. Adequate soil moisture, good health, good growth - closer to full rates.

Unfortunately, it's very possible to carry it
How about bruning the roots with a blow torch vs roundup?
I was thinking the same. Did you try it?
@@tedfinkenauer42 no, I never did. I don't know if it would kill the roots.

Not if you ran a double rate of atrazine. I'd switch modes of action. Certainty/Celsius would be a better bet if you've got the temperature
Negate + Quicksilver?
That would smoke cool season lawns. But would work on warm season fine
Matt, is it true that dithiopyr is a better pre emergent for poa annua than prodiamine?
No
Watching the PGA last weekend at Torrey Pines and the program listed Poa Annua as a desirable grass type on the golf course. Thought that was interesting.
Some of the fastest greens

Yes you can
Good stuff. My Bermuda just started going dormant in lower Alabama a few days ago after that cold snap. Is its schedule going to be thrown off?
No sir, keep in keeping on!
What i did was used tenacity to turn it white, that hit it with certainty about 3 times..I didnt see any triv at the end of the year.
Certainty used to carry a bluegrass label, but will definitely smoke most cool season grasses.
@@TheGrassFactor i called the guy and he said use it at 1/3 the normal rate
I’m trying to get my zoysia to spread this season. Should I hold off on a preemergant or will this not effect the growth rate?
I'd apply Pre

Except even at best case scenario, gly is only 70© effective.😳
Can't control these POA in warm season grass either.
Can’t keep my eyes off the ginger chest love rug
Well, sounds like I better get used to the look of a Poa yard ‘cause I ain’t got time fo’ that.
I think the real question here is why isn't it poa annual ?( with an L)
