Great video! For those seeding in the fall with cool season grass make sure to spray Tenacity and Ethofumesate on the day off seeding. Allows your desired cool grass to germinate & stops unwanted weeds from coming up.

My yard is covered with poa annua. I'm going with the strategy of using dithiopyr pre emergent each fall for the next 3 years then after that ill go back to 0verseeding. May try overfeeding in the spring since I don't have crab grass and don't need a spring pre emergent.
Great video Justin. I’m still trying to find some Poa Triv, I haven’t seen much of it in my area. Poa Annua is though. The tell tell sign are the seed heads and the ripple on the leaf blade that Rod showed from his extension office. Can’t wait to see your lawn again this season and the update on you parents yard. 🤙
Just moved into a house and they never took care of the lawn. The edge was over grown 8 inches over the drive way and the lawn is full of weeds. I applied scotts turf builder triple action but forgot to water the lawn first. Some weeds are browning but I dont think this made much of an impact at all. Any advice on when I could apply some other herbicide. I have a battery powered sprayer and would like to go liquid this time. Any recommendations? We are starting to get into 80 and 90 degreee days here in NJ and ground temps are above 70. I'm not wanting to look at a weeded lawn all summer. Thanks!
ive found with the poa annua, spraying with a good dose or two of tenacity really yellows or even turns the plant white. It does not kill it I have found, but what it does do is weaken the heck out of it allowing you to pull the whole plant up root ball n all. makes for a real easy removal without any strain. i always tell the other half im out with the labradors on a poa patrol!!
I'm in year two of my lawn renovation and I ran into the same issue after I over seeded last fall and would like to do so again. I used granular Prodiamine in the spring for my pre emergent. I'm wondering, would it be possible to use Tenacity as a pre emergent when the soil temperature approaches 70 in the fall, then apply dithiopyr a month after the over seeding? Or just wait until the lawn is dormant to dig the Poa Annua out like you did in your video?
I need to get mine to the state of just dig it out.. I have way too much POA Trivialis for that right now. I'm just going to glyphosate it. I'm definitely going to be getting more proactive with the pre-emergent also.
@Cisco Talens prodiamine. I'm actually going to glyphosate the spots today so in a week or so I know where not to apply the prodiamine. I'll be reseeding the spots as soon as I know the stuff is dead.
thanks for the video. I got lots of POA Annua and possibly Trivialis as well as I had lots of light green spots. Plan was to NOT seed this fall, instead use pre-emergent to prevent POA seeds germinating this winter. Well, I have lots of dead spots on the lawn possibly from POA dying (specifically in very sunny spots). Really want to put down good quality seed this fall after aerating. Maybe a faster way is to kill entire spots where I see POA and overseed in fall or some POA seeds will still be out there and germinate, thus, skip fall seeding and just deal with fall pre-emergent? Also, some spots in shade still have the POA live and well, so should I kill them? thanks.
Great explanation man. Haha. I do the exact same thing when I get in or outta my truck. A little at a time goes a long way. Fortunately not a big problem for me this year. Pre emergent doing a pretty good job.

Not sure where you are in the country, but be careful using glyphosate on a tall fescue lawn... As it never really “goes dormant”. Manual removal is great for a few plants, but for large infestations we use an herbicide called Poa Constrictor... usually takes 2 applications, applied in November and December for prevention...
If I were to glyphosate it would be with the intention of killing the poa and knowing that it would kill the fescue along with it. Poa constrictor would be great but for the majority of my audience it's a little out of the budget

Perhaps fill each hole with some dirt and fresh seed mix. Otherwise undesired seeds might float in/take root.

I’ve found that poa is easy to pull out roots and all after watering since it’s shallow rooted. For those who don’t have Tenacity.

Roundup is perfectly fine to use but you can’t use it when the lawn is dormant or going dormant. Spray the triv in spring
