Just learned my flip turns tonight at the pool. Watched a lot of youtube on it. It helps, yet after fear settles in those lessons go right out the door. Conquered the fear though and went for it. Peace of cake now.
Flip turn is one of my favorites, I started learning how to do flip turn in February 2018 with the noodle and I've slowly improved my flip turn technique to perfection while it takes practice to get it right, thanks Coach Mandy.
I'm trying to develop something in between, as I still lack flexibiliy to smoothly flip turn : I have to do a significant effort and exhale too much as a result which in turn impairs my ability to swin underwater. I experimented with a side flip, slower but : done right as the open turn allows to breathe while turning Can be triggered further from the wall than open turn Nullify the risk for water to get to deep in your nose (and I hate those pinching device). It feels smoother more continuous with actual swimming than open turn Like open turn, you replenish your lung easily On the con side : It's not as fast as flip turn, especially with artificial restriction to prevent Lochte's approach. I don't know if it is faster than open turn, though you start the movement earlier. I guess I could say more if people more in shape than I'm without my issue could test trial it.
Great video as always. I do open turns. I'd like to learn the flip turn, but I am apprehensive in doing so because a) unsure of the timing of last breath taken before the flip, afraid I would panic in the middle of the turn b) is may be just me but when I practice the flip, I get dizzy way too easily c) I feel I need to work on my stamina first before I do anything like this.
No problem Jeff, I understand. The best thing to do right now is get really comfortable with the open turn including your breathing towards the wall with an open turn. Combine the pool practice with watching and studying the movement of the flip without practicing it yet. Hope this helps! -Coach Mandy 🏊🏼♂️👍🏼
Oh...the flip turn! But I really dont perform it well so I train using the open turn. I have noticed that a proper flip turn and dolphining can give you and advantage of about one body length on every turn.
Tomas Artinano yes and also breaking free with the high side arm! Try incorporating the flip turn more often and you will see improvement from just the consistency. 🙌🏽 -Coach Mandy
I am struggling to roll my body underwater in order to perform flip turn, but I can't roll my body underwater.plz make a video on how to efficiently roll your body underwater in order to perform flip turn, with tips and tricks
Hi Maryam! Thank you for your input I will definitely have new content upcoming to help with this issue. In the meantime, be sure to exhale throughout the entire roll and avoid using your arms. The motion is all directed from your head position. 🏊🏼♂️👍🏼 If still haven’t quite gotten the flip yet, keep observing and stay tuned for more! 🙌🏽🏊🏼♀️🙏🏽 - Coach Mandy
Coach! Do we have to pay you $$ to gain access and have you actually teach us to flip turn with the sort of effortlessly flawless and graceful technique as demonstrate here?
Haha not yet but there will be something in the future. In the meantime, stay tuned weekly for new content, and spread the word to those who need it! 🙌🏽😎🏊🏼♂️ -Coach M
