I had seen slayer a dozen times, pantera 3 times and almost every other late 80s early nineties metal band live, but Metallica live when I finally saw them were on another level. By that point they definitely weren’t the fastest, loudest or heaviest, but they were somehow still the best, and they weren’t even my favorite band at the time.

@Ken Severo if you listen to the metallica podcast, you hear James talk about how cliff never wanted to work with a producer and do everything themselves. Which is why he always double over his vocal tracks. What they did on the black album was a first, but they would of never done it with cliff. I think that could of held them back

I was there that night! I still have the setlist and a pick from Jason from the concert! We went there by train (500km) and halfway there I realized that I had forgotten my ticket. I had to call my mom at home to give it to the conductor on the next train. Going back and forth was no longer possible in terms of time. It worked. Unbelievable, but mobile tickets did not yet exist 😂

Extra little detail about this performance is that they actually opened with this instead of Enter Sandman on this show. You can even see Lars coming up from under the stage at the start. It’s probably why this performance is really sloppy too, lol

@@theboss6745 I’ll list some things for you.
0:48 James plays the verse riff wrong for the whole first verse. He keeps going up to the 6th and 5th fret. It should be the 7th and 6th fret. You hear his and kirks guitars clash on them 2 chords every time.
2:05 James forgets what to sing and play
2:39 Jason is a fret too high on the ascending bit
2:45 Lars starts playing the ending of the solo section too early and has to go back to the hi hat
3:05 Jason comes in a bar too early instead of in sync with the kick drum.
3:41 Jason plays the wrong note and just after at 3:46 lars is hitting the snare instead of just counting the gap on the hi hat
And just an overall looseness in general to the performance. There is a reason they haven’t opened with it since. Don’t get me wrong. Id rather watch this than a perfect performance. Got plenty of them from this tour already haha.
