These shows were absolutely unforgettable!! The energy from the crowd was mind blowing. There was so much anticipation for the album and it surpassed all expectations for the group I hung with. I saw the show in both Minneapolis and Indianapolis. Would love to travel back on time to experience it again!!!
I had seen slayer a dozen times, pantera 3 times and almost every other late 80s early nineties metal band live, but Metallica live when I finally saw them were on another level. By that point they definitely weren’t the fastest, loudest or heaviest, but they were somehow still the best, and they weren’t even my favorite band at the time.

Which is why he always double over his vocal tracks. What they did on the black album was a first, but they would of never done it with cliff. I think that could of held them back
The Struggle Within would be the best opener for that tour ever. Just imagine the intro goes in, stops and James sings Reaching out for something you gotta feel and stops. Crowd goes crazy and he continues and band tunes in at the same time.

There was an interview with Lars (used in the “Metallifilm” used before some of the 1992 shows and released with Live Shit in the San Diego video) where he referred to Jason as an “energy bomb”.
Those are the rare moments I'm happy to be already 45 years old. I've Seen the guys one evening later in Mannheim (Maimarkthalle). The energy was insane and the music was LOUD. No handys, just thousands of guys going wild, though I - being a 16 year old kid - was quite intimidated by a lot of older and bigger guys. Damn, hard to believe it's that long ago. What a great time grow up 🤟🤟

Jason is a super good backing vocalist! This and wherever I may roam are my favorite songs of the black album, the rest are good but those 2 are just the ones that I listen to on loop

But he pressed the roll to recover to be on time. At none of other moment he's fucking up here'. And that said all you guys im sure would be perfect on microscope doing 3 h shows like back then every night for 3 years touring. Don't you ? You guys would never keep the stamina for 3 months playing that hard and be generally consistent as playing quality all thoses shows , let alone 1 or 3 years but you still open your mouth for the guy that went out and did it for one or two little mistakes. Nothing like a "BACK TO THE MEANING" from Jason. Also, he could headbang like the best of them, including Cliff. Also, gotta love james James going off picth from time to time. This type of music holds such a power that it is hard to perform it perfectly. That is the beauty of live music.
Jason we love you and we miss you You are up there with lemmy, geezer butler, Steve Harris.. most badass bassists on stage and important to the overall sound of great metal music .. in a class above the rest
That was my first Metallica concert, I was 16 years old, it was awesome, another 59 concerts were to follow. All were great, I love Rob, but the eneregy of Jason unmatched.
It might seem not much is going on guitar wise but this is not an easy song to sing and play James is the best Guitar singing duel player in all genres of muzak

Jason's energy, charisma, intensity, talent, and monster vocals cannot be replaced. He was a beast and I miss him in Metallica. Rob is also talented, but Jason's demonic vocals are unrivaled.
At any given time since the 80’s and even today, the best way to listen experience music of any kind is to go see Metallica live... and the people that went to the shows during this era are the luckiest humans to have ever existed

These concerts are the reason I never say no to going to a show to see a band/artist for the first time, you'll regret it if you don't, and if you do go, you'll either like it or love it because it's fun anyways
I saw them around this time, Feb of 1992, they didn’t play this song but I wished they had, always one of favorites. Love having Jason on backing vocals, and I love their sound during this long tour. I’m thinking about getting this box set, but maybe I’ll get it for my birthday, we’ll see.
It's funny and interesting how James actually messes up alot of the rhythm guitar work during the verses and choruses. I have NEVER seen him really mess up his parts

I always thought guitarist shouldn't use those because they actually slow calluses growth, but for recovery it might be good. Whats your opinion on that?
@@rafaelfliperama i know, but my finger is also injured. Not burnt, but i feel like it doesn't really heal when playing with that finger. And it is sometimes a bit painful.

I was there that night! I still have the setlist and a pick from Jason from the concert! We went there by train (500km) and halfway there I realized that I had forgotten my ticket. I had to call my mom at home to give it to the conductor on the next train. Going back and forth was no longer possible in terms of time. It worked. Unbelievable, but mobile tickets did not yet exist 😂
The mighty meticats & maiden are two of the best live bands in the business. Never a "bad" gig, always bang for your buck, always know what youre going to get .
Extra little detail about this performance is that they actually opened with this instead of Enter Sandman on this show. You can even see Lars coming up from under the stage at the start. It’s probably why this performance is really sloppy too, lol

You hear his and kirks guitars clash on them 2 chords every time. 2:05 James forgets what to sing and play 2:39 Jason is a fret too high on the ascending bit 2:45 Lars starts playing the ending of the solo section too early and has to go back to the hi hat 3:05 Jason comes in a bar too early instead of in sync with the kick drum. 3:41 Jason plays the wrong note and just after at 3:46 lars is hitting the snare instead of just counting the gap on the hi hat And just an overall looseness in general to the performance. There is a reason they haven’t opened with it since. Don’t get me wrong. Id rather watch this than a perfect performance. Got plenty of them from this tour already haha.
