Lenny was my personal favorite non playable character in the camp. He always had a certain independent streak, especially when it came to challenging Dutch on his reading habits. His and Hosea's deaths were definitely insanely traumatic for Arthur, especially with no time to grieve unlike Sean where after the assault on Braithewait Manor he had some quiet time to process. I feel like Lenny and Hosea's deaths were left for us to interpret as well as to closely connect their deaths and the Robbery's failure together was the proverbial death of the old gang as Dutch really just goes if the rails even further from there.

Lenny was all set to be in College and become a lawyer. Lenny didn’t deserve the outlaw life, but in the end he is the one who chose it. Lenny was the hardest for me to mourn
When Hosea died, i knew, the gang was over. Lenny's death nearly flew over my head, because of how hard I was hit by previous death, but in the back of my mind it only solidified the thought.
Man I love Lenny. Lenny and Hosea died so closely together that the gang didn't really have time to properly process or grieve and that makes each hit harder. Lenny was such a sharp person and aside Charles, the person Arthur relied on the most. I think had he lived he might have went in with Charles and Arthur on helping out the Natives, cause like Arthur said he was always up for helping out and he was smart enough not to lose his head.
I think it's significant Abigail makes sure to tell Dutch they got Hosea's body, while it is up to Sadie to tell Arthur they got Lenny's. Basically they told the person who would care most.
As someone with asburgers, or high functioning autism as some say, its rare for most any form of media to make me feel strong emotions. Whenever it does, I very easily become obsessed with it. Red Dead Redemption 2 easily made me feel the most emotion out of any game, movie, or show. I wish I could go back and play it again feeling the same emotions I felt the first time I played.
As another one with Asperger’s - this is exactly how I felt too. I really wish my first playthrough I took more slowly, did more side missions, but oh well.
@@cb-9938I think Javier looks back and seems to care that he got killed, but in all fairness to the ones there, they were on the run from the law and Lenny just got shot out of nowhere. It makes sense they’d be hesitant to stop in case a law member is waiting around the corner
One my favourite characters. His death hit so many players hard. Just so well scripted and in-deth back story. Hosea too. Seeing them both meet their end in the same mission really signalled the rapid downhill of Dutch and his boys. Too me, Dutch's gang was closer to a cult then a traditional gang especially at the end.

One piece of dialogue l always liked was Lenny telling Arthur how he felt accepted in the group and liked how there wasn't any racism as opposed to different places he visted. Arthur says he never noticed that when also going to different places and Lenny says no offense Arthur but you wouldn't have because he has a different perspective. And Lenny talks about how he'd get stared down by strangers and would have to think about watching his back around them. So I like Arthur getting this new perspective that he never thought of before and hearing Lenny out
Arthur doesn’t see Racism, because he see people as people. And even Arthur has no hard feelings to the people he has killed. Arthur see everyone in the gang as family, but the better way to see Arthur is ,he does what he feels is right, without being an asshole about it. To Lenny, he is family, and family will protect each other blood or no blood related.
Lenny’s death shocked me. I remember screaming “fuck you dutch let me grieve, I’ll kill everyone of these Pinkerton ass holes I’ll run when I’m ready.” His death and hoseas really make the game kinda hard to replay. I don’t wanna lose them again. Take micha
I think hosea and Lenny's deaths were the point arthur started doubting dutch and also where his entire mood changed when he started falling into a bit of a depression as soon as the gang comes back from guarma,i believe it's because Arthur simply hasn't had time to grieve,he lost a close friend and one of the men who practically raised him.
I think Lenny's death hit Arthur harder than he let on, because Lenny was the second youngest in the gang next to Jack. In a way, i think that ended up allowing him to form a sort of parental connection to Lenny, making ot semi akin to Arthur, in the past, discovering the death of his girl and son.
I loved Lenny dude. I feel like Arthur viewed him like a little brother at least that’s the vibe I got from their interactions. The same he felt about John that’s why he was so mad at John when he left the group because he felt betrayed because family is everything to Arthur, Family and Loyalty.
The gang deaths just solidify why Arthur is soo torn when Mary reaches out to him. Hosea, Lenny and Sean are perfect examples of what he's trying to avoid. Everyone he cares about is at risk.
One small detail is that after Lenny falls to the ground after being shot, Arthur is the only one to stop and grieve while the other gang members are trying to escape the Pinkertons
6:32 That "No! Lenny!" was honestly heartbreaking. Arthur's voice actor did an amazing job with this game, as did everyone else's. You can tell how much love was put into it by the cast and developers.
Lenny was half Arthur's age so he would've seen him like an older son. In fact, it's possible that Arthur's son, were he still alive, would have been Lenny's age.
Lenny is my top 3 favorite characters. I really wanted rdr 3 to be from Lenny's perspective before he met Dutch. There's dialogue where he says he's killed several men and was on the run before he met Dutch.
The Gang in Arthurs eyes: Dutch and Hosea = Fathers/Mentors Mrs. Grimshaw = Mother Hen The Women: Little Sisters Sean, John, Bill, and Javier = Brothers Jack and Lenny = Student/Son Pearson = I like Food Uncle = Lazy Fool Strauss = German Guy Trelawney = Magic Man Reverend = Useless Annoyance Kieran: Damn Odriscoll Micah = Why Are You Even Here?
I really liked this video. I didn't really catch that when I played (I only just beat it early this year) about the effect that it had on Arthur deeper than what I noticed because I didn't realize how badly the game was going to end so much of the early game I wasn't looking at it like that. I'm rambling. Great video cynic
The scene that gets me is Lenny talking about the racism that Arthur wouldn’t be able to see. Him dropping the hard n-word shocked the hell out of me the first time 😂
I related to Lenny the most in the game for obvious reasons. I really liked how they highlighted his role in the gang. It was cool seeing Arthur try to understand why he didn't like being in shady belle.
love your video and i believe i pulled an answer to your question/wish of wanting a cutscene or something more than what we got for lenny's death, out of my bottom! Sean had a cutscene because it was a massive turn of events for the gang, an ambush and an end to their shenanigans in the town. Hosea had his cutscene because he was the soul, the second brain of the gang, plus how much his character contrasts with dutch's. On the note of dutch, Hosea had his cutscene to because that was the moment dutch got "unleashed" fully doing his way, as unreasonable as it may be. Lenny, although very important to the gang and arthur (the player). Lenny's death was so unexpected, as in "we are on the temporary safety of the roofs". Then later in the game, no one could have time to process his death, and what little time there was for the dead... unfortunately Hosea takes the spotlight. i am on the same exact boat, i want more to lenny and his death, but i want to put all of my trust on Rockstar, and believe that the best or only way for us to experience lenny's death, was like arthur and the gang, A.K.A. "it was so fast and now we gotta run!" thanks for reading
Lenny’s death, while quick and not really cinematic, Arthur sat with him for a few seconds before running and almost looked like he was about to cry at his death
Cynic i love your videos. Your ideas are always original and creative, unlike some other red dead channels. The way you format your videos makes it an easy watch and ur thumbnails always catch my eye. Your definitely going to go far in this game bro keep it up
Another aspect that overshadowed Lenny’s death was everything happening so fast during that mission, with Hosea dying, every pinkerton under the sun showing up, escaping to the roof amongst tons of gunfire, and just like that, Lenny’s dead too But among all this pressure of escaping the Pinkertons, Arthur, and the player, barely have any time to mourn Lenny, and have to move on to survive till the end
lenny was such a good character, even if he was severely underutilized. i only wish we couldve gotten more missions showing us how cool he is. i still feel like he shouldve been one of the few gang members that lived 😭
I never even noticed arthurs screams for Lenny's name when he gets shot, because I always tried to save him and try to get the gunmen before he died, I knew I couldn't but I would always try
Lenny is my fourth favorite character, arthur, john, sadie, then lenny. Which i mean fourth place doesnt sound great, but honestly i just how lenny almost seemed to look up to arthur and arthur treated him with nothing but respect
What weighed most on my Arthur was the fact that he was reloading his weapons when Lenny was killed, as if at that moment Arthur couldn't have saved Lenny because his weapons were out of ammunition.
I really thought I did something wrong in the bank mission and Lenny could be saved. Oh my god I was devastated when it turned out he couldn’t be saved. Everything he went through but stayed positive and smart and deadly. And he was only 19.😭😭😭😭😭
Arthur and Lenny’s relationship was 1 to be reckoned with. Arthur and Lenny remind me of me and my best friends relationship. It’s tragic that they killed Lenny off so soon. He was 1 of the best characters.
People usually never say this but.. When Hosea died, Dutch finally broke through and started to get more and more selfish, leading to the downfall because Micah and Dutch had full control.
I forgot what mission and what npc it is he’s talking to but there’s a few times I remember him talking to someone about his grief with all the deaths in the gang, Lenny and Hosea he has a special kinda sadness you can hear in his voice almost like he don’t want to admit it’s real. That’s how I always saw him taking it. Lenny was too green and Hosea lived thru I would assume he thinks worse, so those two feel the most unreal to him maybe. But when he says their names there’s a tremble in his voice. Rodger Clark really killed this role, man’s great!
I really think that out of all of the gang, Arthur really liked Lenny, Sean, Charles, Hosea, and while it took a while to come around, John the most. Sure, he may have spoken roughly and a bit beratingly to Sean at times, but we hear that in the end, he really did like Sean after what happened in that shootout, and even was extremely furious in the moment after he was shot. He always seemed to get along with Lenny very well and seemed extremely devastated in the way he runs straight to Lenny and despite the situation still takes that moment for him, Hosea was practically his second father, Charles taught him a lot about how to hunt but also show respect in the hunt as well, and the reason I say John as well, was by the end of it, with Charles helping the Natives leave their camp, John became the one he trusted and relied on the most, even despite the justified dislike for him at the start.
Lenny is the only character I got drunk and lost control with. The only mission I've replayed more than twice. I wish Lenny would have made it to chapter 6. I wish there were more missions with Lenny. I wish Lenny would have been able to get the red dead redemption for Arthur. Lenny represented the last remaining hope in a world being lost to civilization.
seeing everyone who was friends with arthur and had his back die one by one makes me think micah chose those specific people as targets so arthur would be alone with marston in the final confrontation
This is a great video, I don't have any nearly as philosophical to share, but I think we can all agree Arthur saw every one of his gang members as extensions of his family (minus the rat that joined 6 months prior): Dutch as his 1st father fugure and saviour, Hosea as his 2nd father figure/ mentor we can assume even before Blackwater that Arthur and Hosea worked closely together, and Lenny who Arthur enjoyed being around and had a mentor-student standing with. _What Lenny symbolized was newblood: a future for the gang and once Lenny died soon after Hosea, so did the gang's future._ Only the most experienced old fighters were left after Dutch's word. There was no one qualified enough left to speak against Dutch and the pillers of the Van der'lin Gang were gone. No Future.
The loss of Hosea and Lenny made Arthur realize that Dutch no longer cared about his gang as long as he made it. They where all pawns that he could easily sacrifice.
I think it's really sad that both Sean and Lenny went out the way they did. I wish we did see what Arthur thought more about Lenny. I think Arthur loved Lenny more like a son than a brother. Hosea's death was the greatest lost that Arthur had, and I think it really overshadows Arthur's feelings about Lenny, and him reading Lenny's letter in Chapter 3 makes it more impactful that Arthur never got to see Lenny achieve his dreams that he wanted, and would talk about with Arthur.
Seeing Lenny with john, Charles, and Uncle would be so cool. I actually think john would get along with lenny as well and would trust him to run away with his family and defend his home if he survived. Lenny is tragic because he was genuinely a good kid and no one said they didn't like lenny whether they actually cared or not.
I forgot where I heard this quote, but it’s a good one.

In cowboy heaven we can still hear drunk Arthur calling out Lenny.❤
Ynnel
I literally shouted ‘no’ so loud when his death occurred
Man I love Lenny. Lenny and Hosea died so closely together that the gang didn't really have time to properly process or grieve and that makes each hit harder. Lenny was such a sharp person and aside Charles, the person Arthur relied on the most. I think had he lived he might have went in with Charles and Arthur on helping out the Natives, cause like Arthur said he was always up for helping out and he was smart enough not to lose his head.
His death hit me harder than the bullets that killed him. Rest in peace Lenny
Same case here! Guess RDR2 got through to us all.
@@spartanseth7392Ass burgers isn't a real disease lol, autism is also just a cope for being lazy lmao
Yea rd2 had one of the best stories I honestly can’t think of a game that can compare
I always got the vibe Arthur viewed Lenny as a little brother or even like a son. You can hear the pain in his voice when Lenny got gunned down.
Lenny died the most out of nowhere it wasn’t even a cutscene like sean
He gets killed mid mission and left behind. Everyone except Arthur and Charles ran past without looking back
@@cb-9938I think Javier looks back and seems to care that he got killed, but in all fairness to the ones there, they were on the run from the law and Lenny just got shot out of nowhere.
In my opinion Lenny Hosea and Kieran didn't deserve what happened to them
Agreed. Kieran especially, the guy just wanted friends
@@Nico42048 Yeah I wanted to be his friend but even when I tried to greet him Arthur would still be a bit aggressive
Neither did Sean, Jenny, molly or Arthur
@XtraOrdinar-y
Sean and Arthur were actual killers and Jenny idk molly didn't really deserve it but she played a stupid game the others I mentioned only did things out of need same with John even tho I like John Lenny killed to survive Kieran killed to save himself or people he cared about Hosea only killed if needed to he usually try to avoid conflict the other's died as a result of their actions if you want me to prove my point most the GTA fan base hate johnny couldn't care or thought he sucked let's just apply it to these rdr characters that died minus Molly Kieran Lenny and maybe Jenny the others died because they were hardened criminals.
@ Aeanand Arthur’s we’re killers? So was everyone but still good people
One piece of dialogue l always liked was Lenny telling Arthur how he felt accepted in the group and liked how there wasn't any racism as opposed to different places he visted.
Take micha
Try replaying the game seeing the characters knowing they won’t be there anymore
I like to think Arthur and Lenny are drinking together in heaven getting into all kinds of mischief
hosea and lenny are my two favorite characters other than arthur and we lost both of them in the same mission
Finally a video about Lenny and Arthur
As much as I like the idea, I don't think you could get a full numbered entry out of his story. It'd make for a good little DLC story though.
The Gang in Arthurs eyes:
Dutch and Hosea = Fathers/Mentors
Mrs. Grimshaw = Mother Hen
The Women: Little Sisters
Sean, John, Bill, and Javier = Brothers
Jack and Lenny = Student/Son
Pearson = I like Food
Uncle = Lazy Fool
Strauss = German Guy
Trelawney = Magic Man
Reverend = Useless Annoyance
Kieran: Damn Odriscoll
Micah = Why Are You Even Here?
W
You forgot John, his real brother
I really liked this video. I didn't really catch that when I played (I only just beat it early this year) about the effect that it had on Arthur deeper than what I noticed because I didn't realize how badly the game was going to end so much of the early game I wasn't looking at it like that. I'm rambling. Great video cynic
The scene that gets me is Lenny talking about the racism that Arthur wouldn’t be able to see.
Him dropping the hard n-word shocked the hell out of me the first time 😂
a n-er lover 😂
Legend has it that they are both getting blackout drunk together in the great saloon in the sky
I was absolutely heartbroken when he died, just so quick. Almost an insignificant death, he deserved at least a cut-seen
I related to Lenny the most in the game for obvious reasons. I really liked how they highlighted his role in the gang. It was cool seeing Arthur try to understand why he didn't like being in shady belle.
Your writing and editing style is awesome you should try branching out into different topics that might draw in more people than just red dead 2
Thats so kind of you to say, that really means a lot to hear. You think so?
@@CynicGTAFor sure man.
love your video and i believe i pulled an answer to your question/wish of wanting a cutscene or something more than what we got for lenny's death, out of my bottom!
"it was so fast and now we gotta run!"
thanks for reading
Lenny’s death, while quick and not really cinematic, Arthur sat with him for a few seconds before running and almost looked like he was about to cry at his death
Cynic i love your videos. Your ideas are always original and creative, unlike some other red dead channels. The way you format your videos makes it an easy watch and ur thumbnails always catch my eye. Your definitely going to go far in this game bro keep it up
Stay confident w this bro, watching your videos i can literally FEEL the effort put in to them. They have a professional feel to them
You know I would love a deep retrospective on aurthers feelings towards the death of people or events
It's more likely that arthur See's lenny as how dutch would have seen arthur. In their younger years.
Both Sean and Lenny’s death made me scream NOOOOOOO as if I was right there with them, what a fucking game
i remember restarting that mission multiple times trying to save lenny
I love this account! Keep the RDR content coming!! ❤
I was genuinely upset when Lenny died he ain’t get the most screen time but he was one if my favorite characters
Feel like Lenny would've expanded the story more
Some real, _real_ intimate moments with Lenny.
I wish i could replay rdr2 like it was my first time again
My man 💪🏽 been waiting for this
Another aspect that overshadowed Lenny’s death was everything happening so fast during that mission, with Hosea dying, every pinkerton under the sun showing up, escaping to the roof amongst tons of gunfire, and just like that, Lenny’s dead too
But among all this pressure of escaping the Pinkertons, Arthur, and the player, barely have any time to mourn Lenny, and have to move on to survive till the end
His death is very similar like the one in twd carl
lenny was such a good character, even if he was severely underutilized. i only wish we couldve gotten more missions showing us how cool he is. i still feel like he shouldve been one of the few gang members that lived 😭
when lenny got shot i was waiting for it to fail my mission when it didn't…
The fact that it came so suddenly and bluntly made it hit so much harder for me. Second playthrough I tried my best to save him but you just cant.
I don’t think I could handle a cut scene of Lenny dying tbh
They did Lenny so dirty the fact that he never got a cutscene after hosea was just wrong it makes him feel less important than everyone else
What weighed most on my Arthur was the fact that he was reloading his weapons when Lenny was killed, as if at that moment Arthur couldn't have saved Lenny because his weapons were out of ammunition.
this game tore your heart out
Had Lenny survived the story, I could see him becoming a similar person to Hosea. Very intelligent and kind, but able to kill when need be.
he's death scene is the only time I remember arthur screaming that way, he got so scared of losing the boy, and he still did ;-;
Lenny wasnt just Orthurs boah, he was everyones boah.😢
I sure didn’t expect the first Lenny mission to turn into a young thug video halfway through…but it did.
The moment where Arthur and Lenny go out and get drunk was a very heart warming moment
I really thought I did something wrong in the bank mission and Lenny could be saved. Oh my god I was devastated when it turned out he couldn’t be saved. Everything he went through but stayed positive and smart and deadly. And he was only 19.😭😭😭😭😭
i never knew you can stumble onto lenny and lenny going at it. damn im now in the mid playthrough and i wanna start over for that scene hahah
Lenny felt like the one true friend for Arthur in that gang, like brothers...
Lenny and Sean were two of my favorite characters.
Lenny definitely was one of my favorites
I loved Sean,Lenny and Hosea sm specially Keiran
0:07 which jacket is that? 😁
this jacket was given to those who pre-ordered the game or its ultimate edition, if I'm not mistaken, you cannot craft or buy it in the game
@@mfflun I thought this jacket was made by modders.

His death shattered my soul.
Walking in on Lenny must be a random event, because I don't remember walking in on him. Nor Lenny slapping Arthur.
I'll never forget the fact that when lenny got shot, everyone, but essentially, arthur didn't care about him
seeing everyone who was friends with arthur and had his back die one by one makes me think micah chose those specific people as targets so arthur would be alone with marston in the final confrontation
I’ve played RDR2 way too many times to count and I’ve NEVER seen 3:48 and I wish I could go back to not knowing that existed
Lenny dies too quick like sean..
Sean *
No Future.
In a way Lenny is like Glenn from The Walking Dead. He’s the young one that holds the groups spirits high IMO
The loss of Hosea and Lenny made Arthur realize that Dutch no longer cared about his gang as long as he made it. They where all pawns that he could easily sacrifice.
I was so hurt about Lenny
I reloaded so many times thinking I could save Lenny the first time I played… 😢
you really couldn't have picked a better shot for the thumbnail than Lenny covered in his own puke 😭😭
At 3:48 it’s funny how Arthur also starts screaming
As an Arthur I never got over Lenny’s death
