I think Ahmed from Car Care Nut said it on his latest video: Companies can't keep up with EPA requirements so they are rushing tech that is not proven.
i have to agree with him. the politicians are setting targets for emissions that are difficult to achieve especially in respect with the timeline. cars today are way too complicated and harder to repair.
I was just at Amd's shop last Wednesday and I drive 150 miles to have him service my Lexus.
@@aeromtb2468 Politicians are also out for money and power. They aren't benevolent to the people. They know very well that pressurizing car companies will strengthen their hold on power. To add to this, Elon has been a boon to them. Tesla cars are fantastic in terms of technology, but what made Tesla cars sell in huge numbers is politics.

I feel like Toyota has overextended itself. They sell 38 models here in the US. 38! They are pushing out so many drastically different models that it's impossible to keep everything in check
And they keep adding more- crown signia
Just asking, how did you get 38? Not sure if you’re counting different powertrains as a seperate vehicle but I’m getting 24 individual models, not including the different powertrains you can get on them
I do kinda agree. Like who asked for the Toyota crown? They should have either given us a redesigned Avalon or discontinued it. Even the crown signia as nice as it is. They already have so many nice suvs, idk why they thought they needed another $40k-50k one

I still prefer Akio Toyoda as the chairman because he knows what we want more than we ourselves know it. He smashed EVs single-handedly for the good of consumers. The Toyota quality issues are to be blamed on the QC management at American Toyota factories.
Isn't the rating on this vehicle still the second highest for the small overlap? And across the board the rating is Good?

Toyota was never a leader or innovator of technological advances. Toyota was always old school, good old reliable, tried and true technology. Advancing in technology is definitely stepping out of their comfort zone. They’re not used to being here. A lot of people used to voice their opinions about how Toyota was always old school. I think this new Toyota is a product of what people wanted. I remember when the 2nd generation Tundra 1st came out people were like ugh! It get 13 MPG. Now the 2nd generation Tundra resale is worth more than a 22-23 year Tundra 🤦🏻♂️

My Toyota Grand Highlander is great! During July 4th weakend, I drove about 1500 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Arizona and Utah and back while in triple digit heat including 127 degrees of heat in Las Vegas. I had zero problems and got 31 miles per gallon in my Hybrid engine. I also discovered a hack that allowed me to drive hands-free and pedal free for at least half of the miles I drove.
You were 100% right with your sources. Stop sale was issued earlier today on the Grand Highlander
Tmmi talks facebook group shutdown because the administrator had a serious car accident and needed time off. It had nothing to do with this. Curious what the Dealership used as an excuse?
I was told this week that my GH Hybrid was held for a quality control check. I wonder if that's how they're trying to hide this.

I wonder what the safety issues mean for the TX
There is no separate crash test for TX, it uses the same one for GH, so whatever is a problem for GH is applies to TX.
Do you think it's the right time to buy the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid PLAtinum Max?? I'm still hesitant because I don't know if the problems are resolved. Your opinion will be appreciated ??
As a Toyota employee who works at the TMMI plant, hopefully there's a fix soon. It's always scary when you don't know how long this could go on affecting hundreds if not thousands of people's jobs and livelihoods. Not to mention people's safety.
How many other Toyotas are having the same safety issues?
Thank you for this info. I have a TX on order that was just days from delivery, but was stopped at the depot in the Dallas area. The status: "Under study, check back every Friday after 12 pm - Vehicle delayed for 30 days - ETA unavailable". No other information was given to me.
I work at the plant. It wasn't stopped at any depot in Dallas. That's Toyota HQ for North America, they stopped it at the plant.
Same for the GH Hybrid I was supposed to take delivery of this month.
@@suprA91 It had already arrived in Dallas and was waiting to be put on a carrier to the dealer, so I'm not sure what you mean. The word we got was that they were also stopped in-freight.
@@geekmommy4 I misread. Headquarters is in Plano, near Dallas. It must have left our train yard just barely before we stopped. We stopped shipping them on trains beginning of last week. Because of dealer markups and lead time a family member purchased a loaded RX350h instead of a limited hybrid grand highlander, for around effectively the same price
TMMI TALKS was shut down due to the admins' own personal accident. It has NOTHING to do with the current issue. Also, you have some information wrong as to when they stopped shipping cars. Yes, production halted today, but the official release from Toyota was made today. It's a side panel airbag issue. It's more than likely a supplier issue.

Mazda CX-90 is a IIHS Top Safety Pick +. CX-70 (which I own and so far, love. Turbo S Premium) has yet to be tested so it's just a IIHS Top Safety Pick. Emissions laws Biden is doing is making things unrealistic.
Try a Mazda their pretty nice and super underrated imo but unfortunately they don't sell a pickup truck
That's why I'm keeping my NA V6's in my 14 & 18 Lexus.
This information about the Grand Highlander is exactly why I NEVER buy the first or second model year of any newly introduced vehicle. The regular Highlander has been out for a while, and it has been pretty reliable so far. I think the regular Highlander is a solid buy right now, especially the hybrid version.
There isn't remedy for my 2021 Camry passenger airbag issue either and there's a recall on it
Is there a production halt on TX too? Sure they share the bones with the GH but need to know about TX too. Can a sales person at Lexus confirm?
No production in west plant period until further notice.
@dizzyundead312 I have a TX. Would it wise to trade it in then for something else?
i work at the illinois one and they have done lay offs since last friday cause of this (tbil)
Good to see recalls and stop sales. When you don’t see these events occurring you likely have a bigger issue.
The driver side curtain airbag juts out of the window in the testing. Could the air curtain have been held in place better if the window was closed and didn't allow the dummy head to slip through? It seems like a variable that may need to be explored. I understand that testing standards can vary and these problems definitely need to be figured out ASAFP. It is good to know that there is still some consumer protection going on out there.
Window closed or open doesn't matter.
Airbags should be designed to WORK proper under both circumstances.
Case closed.
They failed..
Not a complete failure. The airbags mitigate more severe injuries and you can still get hurt from a deploying airbag.
When window is down or window breaks out, then the head hits the a pillar. It seems it might be ok if that window stays intact, but that would probably not happen in an offset crash.
Does this mean more Siennas?😂
Nope
I live in the hood. Recently I started noticing a lot of people around here getting brand new Grand Highlanders…this explains it. - dealers are letting them go

No. Sienna and highlander are unaffected. I wouldn't expect more production for those models
Sienna and Highlander are made at the same plant but in the east assembly shop which has its own parts and chassis supply lines
West assembly makes the Lexus tx and grand highlander, any shares parts will be sent to east assembly to make sure east continues running smoothly
As of now we do not have any modifications to build plan in east for increasing or decreasing numbers
Here’s what needs to happen the GR GT3 needs to become Lexus’/Toyota’s new RWD platform. Like BMW’s CLAR platform (also hopefully Mazda does the same with the CX90’s platform). They can make the LX, RX, NX, IS, maybe the Supra/Celica on the platform. Get rid of the TX and sadly the GX from the Lexus lineup, there’s no point of them, you already have the Highlander, 4Runner, multiple versions of the Land Cruiser, etc.
Powertrains, they need to make an inline 6 from the G16E, have Yamaha help with that, they’d be great at it, they helped with the Ford SHO engine, and the 2000GT, LFA, 2UR, etc. Have the inline 6 be in the NX, RX, LX, IS, the rumored RC+LC replacement, possibly a next gen Supra. Then have the 2.0 inline 4 also be those cars (maybe a new Celica too) minus the LS, LX and RC+LC replacement. The new TT V8, have that in the higher trim vehicles like the LS, LX, and RC+LC replacement, maybe even the IS, and possibly the Tundra and Sequoia. For the transmission use the new GR-DAT (ZF8).
For the rest of Toyotas lineup, it just needs to go back to the basics and be a cheap, reliable option.
Hopefully this is just Toyota/Lexus on a bumpy road right now. Sucks to see their reputation being dragged through the mud.
Yay another new unproven power train.
@@marklihsu true, but it’ll be based off the G16E, yes it’s still too soon to tell reliability of it (especially with it being spliced with another one), but Toyota has a history of Inline 6’s and if they go to Yamaha for help it’ll only make things better. I mean it’ll most likely be much better than the current TT V6, thing had problem from the get-go. Anyways this is all wishful thinking from my part.

I don't think Toyota fully realizes the gravity of the situation. There are millions of people just in the US that only bought Toyota / Lexus, and nothing but Toyota / Lexus, not even considering anything else - That has changed big time. While im no special pleader for toyota, the govt broadly is way way way overstepping its bounds on all these dictates to manufacturers. We need to rein in these regualtory bodies. They have moved beyond regulating to dictating specifics and deciding what you are allowed to buy.

Toyota quality started taking a dive with the 2018 Camry. There was a slight rating improvements with the 2019 and in 2020, the Camry bought new, it got worse with tens of thousands bad engines being put out. It was up to the customer to find the bad engines. If it leaked oil through the block castings the engines were replaced. It is leaked antifreeze through the block Toyota snuck in block sealer without telling the customer trying to stop the leak. Like they did with mine. Toyota had to be sued to do something with that crappy 8-speed that are now in the new Tacoma's. Toyota is chasing the money instead of the mileage now.
This is an easy fix…. So much doom and gloom these days… Toyota has been bringing the absolute best vehicles to the market for decades, and sorry to disappoint but they will again. Recalls will get resolved, technology will be fine tuned, motor isssues will be remedied. Until then the competitors will enjoy a boost in sales. But for those that think this blip will sink Toyota, think again.
I remember seeing that article regarding the safety and I was floored. Toyota prides themselves on their principles of quality and safety so I'm really disappointed in this. Many many missteps over the last year and this wont bow well for them
Vehicles from GM and Kia have actually been doing decent on the UPDATED crash tests. Toyota made sure their vehicles would do well on the old ones but they did not make them for the updated tests. Safety is poor compared to other brands. Quality is down the drain (only hope is one made in Japan). Headlights exceed glare limits blinding other drivers.

Have you heard of any delay on the 2025 Crown Signia? Recently, there was a major pre rollout PR offensive. There were dozens of great reviews. Toyota released its own introductory video. Toyota added a build and price option on their website. Local dealers act like they’ve barely heard of the Signia. No preorders. No waiting lists. Corporate response said in an email that finishes and options had not been finalized. Local dealers have no idea when it is to be released. It will be a first come, first served process. You can take whatever they get on their allocation and like it. Absolutely bizarre. The prerelease mania was as good as a manufacturer could want and then they completely drop the ball. If only 20,000 units will be built a year there will likely be a dealer markup. I have pretty much lost interest at this point.
Very, very disturbing.
