@drewdevon2009 Honda sells plenty of ICE vehicles. And if you look at worldwide sales, they're probably selling at least quadruple the ICE vehicles than Nissan sells in totality. Keep in mind, Honda sells a massive number of heavily polluting motorcycles. They're not the "woke" business you think they are.

Honda has made terrible SUV's and Trucks, heck look what Pilot, look at the Ridgeline they were 100% garbage and unreliable, while Nissan Trucks and their Infiniti SUV's like the QX80, the new QX60, etc is blows Acura out of the water.
Now what Honda could have said was, in this merger Honda will own 70% of Nissan and the rest 30% can actually be owned by Nissan, this gives Nissan at least a say in Nissan. Example if they want to produce the next gen Nissan GTR (R36) Honda shouldn't be allowed to say no but have a say on the budget, reliability, etc.
This merger could have 100% benefited Honda greatly because they stink at making good SUV's especially on the luxury side, and we all know they suck at making Trucks. But yet Honda wanted to be a bully and say they want 100% full control of Nissan.
Heck go google VW and Porsche merger in 2011 on paper and on the outside it says VW owns Porsche, but on the inside Porsche has 75% control of it's self and VW chimes on some concerns. Now not saying that Nissan would own 75% of itself on the merger but VW and Porsche is a great example of how to do a merger.

    • @gregyeager4052
      @gregyeager4052 5 дней назад +37

@@DJG37SStrongly disagree. The Ridgeline has been historically reliable no matter what source you look at, and is a great truck for people who don't need a full size work truck capability (and a lot of those people do exist).
Likewise, the pilot has basically always been viewed favorably by the public and reviewers alike. I'm curious where you're getting your data/opinions. Calling Honda SUVs unreliable garbage is a pretty odd take, and this post reads like a Nissan supporter who is angry at Honda, rather than anything based in fact.

As a Nissan enthusiast, I can tell you the ship has sailed for Nissan in the early 2000’s. When Renault got involved along with their strong influence. That’s when Nissan really died. The only two cars outside of the trucks that were engineered and built by Nissan Japan were the Z’s and the GTR’s. Even those haven’t changed much since their debut. The 90’s Nissans had such great engines and potential but Renault decided to scrap all of Nissans engines and start from scratch.
Some of the greatest 90’s Nissan engines:
    GA16DE
    SR16VE
    SR16VE N1
    SR18DE
    SR20DE
    SR20DET
    SR20VE
    SR20VET
    RB20DE
    RB20DET
    KA24DE
    RB25DET
    RB26DETT
    VG30DE
    VG30DETT
    VG33DE
    VH45DE
    Best 2000’s engines:
    VQ35/37DE
    VR38DETT
IMO Nissan had everything they needed to be great. They put too much trust into Renault to carry the brand. Nissan stopped taking risks in making cool fast cars that were affordable.

I can explain why, but will you listen? Will you say: "oh now i understand"! I doubt it. But I'll still try. We bought Murano with Jatco CVT in 2014. It broke after 2 years, Nissan dealer didn't want to honor warranty. We went through hell. Financial and humiliating hell. We were loyal customers, decided to wait for a new model of Murano. We waited almost 10 years. We gave up, had to sell our broken Murano that was barely driving due to broken CVT. Now this is 10 years of our life thrown away. This is 10 years of our family life thrown away. When we bought Murano it was expensive car. We were saving money for years to afford it. And instead fo happy honeymoon we got hell on earth. Every year we painfully waited - Nissan kept same model and instead news were abotu Carl Ghosn and Nissan sticking to Jatco CVT. Same CVT that ruined our life. They still value that CVT more than us - customers who paid dearly and got nothing, just broken car. After this we cant even look at Nissan anymore. We just want it to die so no one will go throught what we went. Some companies just shoudn't be making cars.

Not just CVTs newer Nissan cars have some sketchy parts. For example my Nissan just with 100K km the Brake Master Cylinder went bad. With most brands you can replace the pump components with a repair kits which is a cheap fix. But this cylinder is designed in a way that is not repairable or serviceable. Only complete part replacement as per the workshop manual. If the part is designed to thrown away, it should at least be cheap. But no it is the same price as a Toyota brake cylinder. When these kinds of issues slowly accumulate people tend to doubt the brand.

I'm looking for a Frontier Pro-4X, and they aren't interested in dealing at all here in Phoenix. Top dollar plus dealer addons! Crazy.

Major mistake of nissan was when they invested in US, where people are striving do hard to buy one. They should have focused more in asian region bcos, first: the huge population, second: asians love to buy cars.

Nissan in India is also not so popular. Compared to Toyota and Honda their sales are quite smaller and primarily in the cheapest end. Their reputation is not so good.

The only think Nissan has that Honda could use is an untapped manufacturing capacity

When I owned a Honda, the dealer was one of the most corrupt car dealers I've ever experienced, so I kind of understand (not that I trust any car dealer).

The whole deal never made sense, Honda has a better cash position, but Nissan is currently producing a better product. Buying a Honda is a gamble right now, oil dilution problems, and al crankshaft issues in the 3.5 L V6.

As owner of the final generation of good Nissans (2006 Altima and Sentra) that had basic automatic transmissions it depressing to see how far Nissan has fallen. Recently retired our 2006 Altima after it gave up the ghost four months ago, and our Sentra is still at it. Seeing the turmoil that Nissan has gone through ever since the introduction of the CVT in 2007, I'm sorry to say Nissan executives avarice and pride will be what finally kills Nissan for good. Mechanic friends warned us not to get any Nissans and told us to go Mazda since they're affordable and have long term lasting quality of a Toyota, so we got a CX-5 as a replacement for the Altima, and we are looking to get a second hand low mileage CX-3 or Mazda 3 fourth generation hatchback to retire the Sentra. Nissan should have just taken whatever Honda was offering for them to survive, but seeing their thought process its best for them to stop existing as a brand.

Wow. I'm a Nissan and Honda fan so I'm bummed. Nissan had some good hybrid tech but nothing Honda critically needed. Nissan has too much pride....

The delayed Carlos Ghosn effect is in play again. Will Nissan survive him? I think they’ll need to find a foreign suitor looking to make use of their assets. Maybe Renault steps up and used Nissan to enter its products in the USA market under a Nissan badge? Or will. Renault just cut its losses?

My heart breaks for the NISSAN workers in Japan. They never deserved any of this. NISSAN has been run into the ground by greedy crooked CEO's and upper management. NISSAN used to be one of the finest vehicle companies in the world. I think it can be again. If a Japanese tycoon takes it over and rebuilds the company with a Japanese work ethic.
