Trent reznor is right though, it wasn't just a ballot or something that feels okay remaking. It's a super personal song and honestly he kind of got bullied into letting Johnny Cash dupe it.
Many people don’t know that Johnny Cash suffered with addiction, pain and isolation.. uncomfortable with his own fame and pressure. For those who understand his life.. Hurt is not just another song that Johnny recorded.. it is a song he reconciled his own life with. Thank you to Trent for letting him have this piece of your soul.. He didn’t waste it. it is one man recognizing the pain and struggle of another man.. Few of us get any validation like that. It isn’t like a pop princess ruining a Rolling Stones song.. it is beyond.
I love both versions! Cash had his demons too. Seeing him and June in the video was incredibly moving. Like an old king surveying his kingdom, his deeds and mis-deeds was the added punch to the impact of it all. Thanks to Rick, Trent, Johnny and everyone for gifting us with such a powerful song.
He didn't share anything. He got bullied into letting Johnny Cash, a much larger personality than him, essentially steal the song. If it's just a valid then it wouldn't matter but it's a super personal song with super deep lyrics. Win nine inch nails objected to that specific song being used, they were bullied and called ingrates
I Can tell he underestimated the power of that song, I f Rick Robin called you for a song , you should know by then he never miss, if that man calls you for a song it's a hit, I can tell his little hurt how that song below up, but all the glory and the credit goes to Trent, a mastermind musician.
NiN, trent, i was listening when he made it... but i wasn't listening... later in life... i hear JC doing it... and i was LIKE? WTf?! cause i "knew" it wasn't Johnny... the flames of the song apply in everyone's lives... this dude is having the inability to accept that he is NOT THE onlLY OnE... ... ... Maybe cause i get IT!! when someone records a song that one wrote... as ye say unto your self... that is exactly wtF i was saying!!
To claim that Johnny cash is solely responsible for making the song good does a huge disservice to Trent reznor’s intense style and brilliant lyricism. Johnny covered the song because it deeply resonated with him. He made a worthy cover but we should never discredit the original work
Say whatever you want. I'm not a 9 inch nails fan and in a vacuum I prefer Johnny cash version. Having said that, it wasn't a valid. It wasn't some generic song. It was super personal and Trent reznor and 9 inch nails were bullied in the letting Johnny Cash take that song
I've never forgiven Johnny Cash for doing this cover. I personally believe Trent should have never let him do it. I want to learn necromancy so I can bring Cash back from the dead just to put him back in the grave
He literally said at the end of this interview after he saw the music video that he loved it so much he thinks the song should belong to Johnny Cash now
Trent is the most underrated musician that ever existed. He is an absolute genius,
NIN is essentially a one man band and nobody seems to know the amount of killer soundtracks he’s made too!
No, he's plenty rated. He is an Academy Award winning musician.
Which he completely deserves.
100 percent
The cover connected generations.. from gramps to dad to myself.. glad we were able to have that time together. RIP

Yup, Agreed. Reckon that's about as real as it gets right here w/ this comment.
💯
Both versions of *"Hurt"* are brilliant!
Trent/NIN did a song that transcends a single man or group... *Unreal & Legendary!*

What song?
@@jeulihonodel7626 The Ray Stevens Guff!
Trent Reznor is a gift. And what a gift he shared to the great Johnny Cash, a powerful song so many of us can identify with!

I love the original and to have Johnny Cash cover your song before he dies is kinda cool.
Omg I'm so crushed in him
Super Song
They were doing 700 songs on the fly with Johnny actually

well said period
once Trent saw the video though, his opinion on what Johnny did with it changed entirely.
Mr. Reznor was to classy to say that Johnny's version lacked passion. You can see Trent's soul in Hurt.
Didn't include the most important part! Trent changed his mind after seeing Cash's video. Said, "It's his song now."
Lynn Strait vibes

The most hilarious part of the whole thing is how many people believe that Trent reznor ripped off Johnny Cash😂
And now I HATE how everyone thinks that it's Cash's song. That irritates the shit out of me.
I think Trent is a little jealous because Johnny Cash did a much better performance of the song that Trent wrote.
This was a whole lot of nothing
Johnny cash made it sound so much better. When I listen to nin I feel like I’m listening to a man coming out of the closet 😂

You stand alone.
Happily, no one on the planet agrees with you, including the original artist.
Go play with your husky cheer yourself up
im sorry trent but cash is king , his is way better then your version
