I'm almost certain Ashley doesn't rate them because most of us guys who do wear them (yes, I do have a couple of bikes) would never approach someone like her because we are just not interested, we don't really like picky princesses, we like actual women, real women not those who got stuck in their 'fashion red-flags tick-box list' perspective of men they jotted down in their 20s.
@@RPGmario64 if unsuitability to task was to determine what looks tacky, then nobody should ever wear underwear, the reason for it's existence is based on old ways of people wearing the same garment, pants for example, several days in a row and underwear would be changed daily to avoid stains or accidents from ruining the garment... I trust most people nowadays wear different things each and everyday so underwear is really not necessary. Point is, people should wear what they want and makes them feel comfortable and more importantly confident in who they are, that is far more attractive than a shy "well dressed" man.
@@samsantana Physique is a definite factor. Confidence I'm not so sure. I see plenty of confident people looking ridiculous in them. It's to do with the material itself at the end of the day. Leather is very, VERY difficult to get right. It makes bad detailing all the more conspicuous and moreover, most patinas are frankly awful. I'd say about 1 in 50 leather jackets look genuinely good. Not great odds. Suede is generally a better bet.
I think those jackets are tacky personally, but I don’t think she’s a stylist whatsoever, all of her advice seems to just clean mean up from sloppy habits and discourage any experimentation or dressing outside of the mundane. Agree with most except the workwear take. I think it makes so much sense to include workwear into your casual street wear. It’s built to last and built to be functional. A sun faded slightly worn carhartt jacket is such an awesome look that will never go out of style
Her "advice" isn't really suited for my generation (I'm gen z, born in 2000). In my experience, we like an outfit that's interest, that draws the eye. Also, some of the advice you can change, like wearing the bigger/longer tee, you can do some type of tuck to show off your proportions better. Honestly, she needs to stop saying the "all women hate this trend" because it's not all women who hate these trends.
This woman is the definition of mid, wants all men to look mid, fashion is the complete opposite of what this middle aged woman is talking about, it’s about expressing yourself but instead you want everybody to dress like a minimalistic 50 year old
The point is that she has a very stereotyped way to think about clothing. She is frozen in the '90s, but in the american nineties. She understand about male fashion as much as i understand about quantum physics
The industry can’t grow when everyone is already clothed. They can only grow by creating a trend that you buy now, only to trash it a year later, to buy the next junk.

I like vest. I find when I am doing active things I don’t get as hot as I do in a jacket and I have better arm range of motion, plus they layer well. It’s hard to beat a Carhartt jacket for warmth and protection against wind. I’ll keep wearing them, with a vest underneath if it’s really cold.
So many things I don’t agree, like the vests, the boots, the leather jacket. Maybe some people don’t live for trends and just live wearing whatever you feel comfortable with. Here in Shanghai the “trend” is so many things she consider “bad”. And here in Asia you actually see crazy stuff lol
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou i am. You see everything, and many of those things are things the fashion RUclipsrs consider “wrong” or “bad” which is funny because Asia is the number 1 place for trends hahah
Isn't the body warmer vest identical to style to a men's vest (the type that you wear with your suit)? What makes the suit style vest suitable but not a warmer vest? Or is even the suit vest no good?
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou There are down vest that are not puffy though, with v shaped neck exactly like a suit vest. Also the effect on the skinny arm should be the same. This makes me wonder if Ashley also thinks suit vest is bad in terms of style.
@@HiroVolforto Isn't a down vest, by definition, full of feathers? It might not be super puffy, but it's still going to be thicker than a suit vest, which is very thin.
Sorry, but I'm not giving up my puffer vests. I live in the Canadian prairies where it can get to minus 45 degrees in January and February. It's about function as well as style for me...
As usual, the one thing I just can't get behind is Ashley's hatred of the Cafe Racer Leather Jacket (I've got them in both Black Lambskin and Brown Nubuck). I'd get it if she were talking about guys walking around in legitimate Biker/Motorcycle Jackets whose thickness are meant more for function than form/fashion. I'd definitely get it if she was talking about the Brando/WIld Ones-style Moto Jacket because it's a specific style that very few can pull off. But her hatred for the Cafe Racer has never made sense to me, and she never explains it - she just dismisses it as an option and then moves on (surprisingly not this time to spending 5 minutes gushing over Leather Bomber Jackets).
yea I have watched a few of her videos and by far that's one thing I can't get behind lol. It's the most simple leather jacket that can be dressed down or up, and most men can pull off compared to let's say.. a rough biker jacket, it is very versatile and gives you more options than let's say a brown suede bomber jacket. I love wearing my lambskin black leather jacket with a nice white oxford, a tie, some black denims & black chelsea boots, just like I like just slapping it on a black casual fit to go to the store. A bit juvenile but as a 24 year old dude I think it switches things up sometimes, since typically people see me in chinos, polos, oil jackets & windbreakers.... so I always get compliments from people that see my everyday uniforms. I think her videos are just aimed towards the older crowd, and she really believes men older than like 35 shouldn't be using leather jackets, seems to be more of a biased preference of hers, which when one thinks about it-> it makes sense.. generally speaking most men with dad bods in their 40s don't look great with leather jackets anymore, so she just generalizes her advice of the jacket & hands it out to all of us equally, rather than advising that they can look great depending on your body type, and that they can look great on slim mid age men and younger men or whatever she really feels.
100% correct. I own a brown cafe racer jacket and people love it - gets compliments all the time. Also in one of the pictures of an example of a stylish man (at the 8 sec mark) she showed in this video, he was wearing a cafe racer jacket haha, and looked good!!!
Thank you for this informative and entertaining video! So, T-shirts, I grew up in the 80's and T-shirts tucked in was the norm. It was such a habit I still do it to this day. And since I am a little big. I could never pull off the French tuck.
For any guys with athletic legs meaning small waist thick thighs that make slim fit look like skinny fit. There's a brand called Bonobos thats make athletic cut jeans with more room in the the thighs and tapers at the knee for a fitted look. A little pricey but worth it!
I have to disagree about throwing away white socks. I'm not saying to wear them, as they are not a great fashion choice. However, socks are the number one item needed at homeless shelters and similar places. Donate those socks! As far as the Carhardt items, I have a few, but I tend to wear them as rugged outdoor attire, not fashion apparel.
@@FractalSoul1111 It's not "trolling" to suggest we should refrain from mocking people for how they dress, since wealth plays a big role in how well someone is able to dress. If you can't wrap your head around that, you've got a lot to learn.
Much here to agree with, but a couple points I take issue with. First is workwear - utilitarian garb when out hiking, doing work on the ranch, or out in the woods, is a must. It's functional and durable, qualities that win out under those circumstances. The second is the vest -- puffer vests are great during transitional weather, and also when out hiking or on expeditions, where you need some body warmth, but where exertion rules out a full coat.
only 2 disagreements: 1. the jacket at 7:03 - it could be a bit less shiny but there's nothing wrong to warrant the dislike 2. smart watch - sorry, I do absolutely love Tissot traditional wrist watches for the look and value for money, but one must be living in 2010 if they dislike smart watches that much.
I may be 60 but no way am I giving up my biker jackets. I wear them on my Motorcycle. And no I am not going through a midlife crisis’. I have owned and ridden them for going through London and pleasure since my 20s
I've worn a leather jacket for over 20 years. It's the most practical jacket I can think of. Warm in the winter. Not extra warm in the fall or spring. Good in snow or rain. Best all around jacket IMHO
I sort of disagree with the point about T shirts. While it don't think an extremely oversized T shirt will look good, I don't think the ideal ending point for a T shirt is the belt line. I think it looks much better fitting to tuck the shirt so that it ends where the pants begin. Thereby, the proportions look much better as it applies to the rule of thirds and the golden ratio (1/3 your shirt, 2/3 your pants).
Yeah, the workwear complaint doesn't make any sense. Clothing is meant to resonate with who you are and with your environment. That's why a 40-year old guy doesn't look too serious in a band t-shirt or ripped pants unless he is in fact a rockstar. That's also why flip flops look out of place when worn in the street. But by the same merit, workwear is the best possible male fashion trend or style. Not every man is a banker or lawyer , but every man needs to (or at least should) do some work around the house sometimes. Your man may not be very masculine and it may not be his thing, but workwear is probably the most reasonable thing a guy can wear. Also, it's more environmentally concious, cause it's made to last.
What I love the most about these videos is that I've likely committed roughly 50% of these fashion faux pas and I still couldn't give less of a sh*t. Do you, be yourself, and (most importantly) be happy. Don't fall victim to one person's opinion. As you were.
I live in the Deep South and unfortunately, you just described 99% of the men along the gulf coast. Equally as unfortunate, is the women are just as fashion challenged. It’s a fashionistas worst nightmare. Their idea of layering is socks with sandals/flops. It’s beyond cringe worthy. Pray for them.
Only one I don’t agree with is the vest. Well kinda. There are some really nice slim ones. The puffier the worse. I appreciate how you got right to it and held nothing back. Great content.
I feel as tho this video doesn't allow a person to explore their own personal style and should therefore go straight to Banana Republic. However, Ashley does bring up some good points. But at the end of the day fashion / style is a personal journey.
Most of this list is fine besides the leather jacket. I get complimented on mine all the time, people really love them. Also white socks can be done right, but people seem to wear them wrong a lot of the time.
Carhartt was never designed to be a “fashion trend.” It’s heavyweight, durable clothing, designed to be worn by hard working men (and, to an extent) women. They also make well-insulating jackets that few to no one in California have any practical use for. Those of us who have always worn it for its intended use will continue to do so long after the hipsters move on to their next cringe move.

I wore a retro patagonia down vest over a red/black flannel and got a smile at the store from a beautiful woman. 😂
Real recognizes real. She notice your swagger 💯
Five seconds in and I bet I had the same thought most dudes had: So glad I’m not married to this woman.
Yeah I paused it a minute in to reflect that I am glad that I have a career and don't have to resort to making videos about how clueless I am about the other sex.
I used to despise that Carhartt worker jacket, and sure enough, 5 years later I love it and just ordered a thick black one 😃
I don't like the giant logo, but they seem like high quality rugged clothing. I would give Carhartt a pass as well.
I like the simple clean lines of the similar Eisenhower jacket by Dickies.
Leave my leather jacket alone. Yes I know I'm too old. Yes I know people think I'm pretending to be a bad boy biker (I usually don't wear leather jackets on my bike). But I love it and I'm keeping it.
As a single guy in my 40s who wears cafe racer leather jackets fairly often, I can assure you 99% of 'worthy' women love the look, when it's well-fitting and accompanied by a confident personality.
@Lava I mostly agree with her too, that's why I watch her videos but she's got it wrong when it comes to this :)
@@samsantana Most leather jackets look a bit crap on most people tbh. Not just cafe racer jackets. That's the harsh reality.
@@sammyb1651 most people are unfit and lack confidence, the rest of us can carry them quite well and stand out in a good way.
I found this video better to rename "nothing wrong with what you wear and don't dress for women's liking "
Are there any major videos on RUclips where a man talks about girls fashion trends that look bad?
I think the leather jackets are still good, at least in solid colors.
Have a schott jacket "storm" in a heavy brown waxed leather and honestly I love it.
cafe racer jacket are best for those who have good proportion body size....... Ashley mentoring like a mom rather than mentoring like a stylist
I think those jackets are tacky personally, but I don’t think she’s a stylist whatsoever, all of her advice seems to just clean mean up from sloppy habits and discourage any experimentation or dressing outside of the mundane.
Which I think a lot of guys could honestly use the advice, so this channel is genuinely very useful, but I think she should recognize that her views of fashion are restrictive and don’t leave much room for discovery.
Sat here watching this while wearing white socks, lots of jewellery, oversized graphic tee, smart watch and Carhartt hat like 🤨
No woman will ever take my oversized bball shorts from me
Agree with most everything except for the work wear. You even said it's overly masculine. which is all the more reason for men to wear it.
Yeah, god forbid a man looks masculine
The added bonus of workwear (if you do happen to be into it) is the fact that it tends to be made of better quality fabrics than the vast majority of fashion out there.
@@sammyb1651 good point
It's not overly masculine where I'm from. Heaps of women wear it, tonnes of dudes with pink hair and nails rock it too. I think Ashley is just classist and doesn't that some people look like they might have to use their hands for something that doesn't involve a computer.
Why do I care what women think about my style? Don’t I do it for me? Be true to yourself. Real always attracts real.
The fact that she made a point to say it’s 2023 go get your hair cut but failed to reinforce the fact that it’s 2023 and smart watches are the norm and not going anywhere
They are pretty mainstream, but a nice swiss mechanical watch will 100% make you look better.
@@yaakovhassoun8965 I understand that I love the OG watch brands. However just like driving a classic car around having a classic watch isn’t normal. It’s very much niche. Smart watches are everyday watches and if you do have a classic watch like myself, you normally wear it for special occasions or work if applicable. Nowadays, it’s all about utility. 300 for a classic watch isn’t the same value as 300 for a smartwatch.
Go and get your hair cut on the way to your yoga class... & then, only maybe.
So you’re telling me that I grew up on Metallica but I can’t wear a Metallica shirt cause I’m older, but some kid that never even heard the band can wear there T-shirt? Doesn’t seem right.

Flannel shirts will always look good
0:15 distressed jeans are bad!

What dressy sport sneakers would you you suggest for an older gentle to wear, at 57 I don't know if i can pull off the jordons' like I once could. I want to elevate my sporty casual look. A leather sneaker or something like the Puma super liga. One last note for the guys. Find a tailor in your area. Get slacks and jeans fitted to the waist and the length. Get jackets and shirt tailored to your body. You will be surprised how much you will like your wardrobe when it fits you. I'm a bigger guy, and it has made a difference, plus honestly the process of getting measured for a correct fit, makes me feel more confident.
I have some black pumas supers with clean white laces that I wear sparingly for casual outings where I don’t have to walk much. Get many compliments on them.

I don’t agree the leather racing style jackets being out of style. It’s a classic that will never go out of style. I love ‘em!
This woman is the definition of mid, wants all men to look mid, fashion is the complete opposite of what this middle aged woman is talking about, it’s about expressing yourself but instead you want everybody to dress like a minimalistic 50 year old
It's funny how everything she hates is the ones you see from the lasted, trendiest fashion scenes.
The point is that she has a very stereotyped way to think about clothing. She is frozen in the '90s, but in the american nineties. She understand about male fashion as much as i understand about quantum physics

In regards to the mullet thing. Clearly never been to Australia. Its thriving here and chicks love a mullet and a dirty moustache! (I don't personally have or like them)

I agree with a lot of what she says, but a few things make me want to ask,
"Am I under surveillance?"
I'm assuming you're a foreigner living in Shanghai? How is it? Feel free to be frank and honest.
It's puffy. That's the difference. That said, you wouldn't wear a suit vest to keep you warm.
So why don’t you just wear a an actual puffer jacket???
Not gonna lie I actually agree with her on most of this
As usual, the one thing I just can't get behind is Ashley's hatred of the Cafe Racer Leather Jacket (I've got them in both Black Lambskin and Brown Nubuck).
Yep. I'm with you too. Cafe leather jackets can be very stylish when kept simple and without the "biker" stripes etc.
I agree 100%.
100% correct. I own a brown cafe racer jacket and people love it - gets compliments all the time. Also in one of the pictures of an example of a stylish man (at the 8 sec mark) she showed in this video, he was wearing a cafe racer jacket haha, and looked good!!!

For any guys with athletic legs meaning small waist thick thighs that make slim fit look like skinny fit. There's a brand called Bonobos thats make athletic cut jeans with more room in the the thighs and tapers at the knee for a fitted look. A little pricey but worth it!
Hey you!!!! Ripped jeans are for the bin. The same with foxed shirts/T-shirts. I do like my Crocs in summer though.
If white socks are something the poor use to keep their feet warm, it makes you wonder if we should be shaming people for wearing them...
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou are you just a full time Troll? Get a life and donate your white socks.

Honey, me aswell as millions of other dudes put on workwear to go to work everyday, what do you want me to do, run a ditcher in a suit 😂
The real James Bond (Connery) actually wore a Rolex Submariner Ashley
only 2 disagreements:
1. the jacket at 7:03 - it could be a bit less shiny but there's nothing wrong to warrant the dislike
2. smart watch - sorry, I do absolutely love Tissot traditional wrist watches for the look and value for money, but one must be living in 2010 if they dislike smart watches that much.
It's weird that she thinks any self respecting person would care what she thinks.
I may be 60 but no way am I giving up my biker jackets. I wear them on my Motorcycle. And no I am not going through a midlife crisis’. I have owned and ridden them for going through London and pleasure since my 20s

Also, if you have an unbuttoned flannel shirt, a tucked in T shirt looks fine

I'm going to disobey every one of these rules as a matter of principle.

White socks are almost essential if you are wearing a white shoe

I love how you started the video straight to the point without any unnecessary short talk in the beginning!
Yes. With so many RUclipsrs, I always have to skip the first couple minutes, and it's annoying.
So carhartt has a offshoot called WIP, they made it to be long lasting fashion you can have for years
Flip flops for me are ok if you live in a tropical country, not just near a body of water. And definitely clean and clipped toenails.
