Keith Richards' 10 Best Riffs (feat. Miguel Ángel Ariza from Spanish band “Última Experiencia”)

- Keith Richards is the heart of the Rolling Stones and, besides being the architect of their sound, defined by some of the best riffs in history. If in other bands one follows the drummer - in the Stones, according to Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, one follows the guitar of Keith Richards. ‘Keef’ has always placed a well executed riff before a long solo, and created his own style while he does it. This is thanks to his special tunings and how the riff is adapted - and how he has adapted, and along with him the band, to them. These 10 riffs form a part of the history of rock & roll.

The Can't You Hear Me Knocking riff is underrated.
The dirtiest rif in poprock history, if its played with the right Keith feeling ofcourse😎
It’s the hardest of the lot. Probably the one that you have to take off the thickest string. But also the mini slides in between the rhythmic chops.Amazing creativity with open G minus one.
Way
heavily
It is my favourite riff from anyone
Keith Richards + Open G tuning = classic
Great playing. Extra points for looking like both Townshend AND Entwistle at the same time 👍🏽😎
LOL !! Nice catch !!
Lol.. I thought this same thing but I didn't want to be obnoxious..
That's hysterical!!!
Haha I thought the same thing as soon as I started watching
I had the same reaction🤣
Pete Townsend playing Keith Richard stuff ?
Flatwin4ever, I just made the same comment before seeing yours! All jokes aside the real Pete Townshend is a huge Stones fan.
Or john entwistle ?
Back when Stanley Kubrick used to write his own scores for his movies.
My first thought when the video started.
I agree so ‼️
almost Townsend ‼️
Pete Townshend playing legendary Keef riffs. I love it!

That was badass. Keith is, in my opinion, the best riff guitarist that ever lived. He isn't far ahead from others but in front.
Since we're talking about opinions, I'll respectfully disagree. I would personally and confidently place Tony Iommi at the front of the riff masters.
@@lilmike2710iommi is Pinicle of Guitar Playing
@@kadenzepher The man brushes his teeth playing riffs. 😁 If you can imagine that.
Noo, Tony iommie and Randy Rhoades.. John Brewster
Micheal schenker
SRV
I give you a thousand points on the fan scale for throwing Citadel in there. Nice one.
Don't care much for the name of that Album, but Citadel is a real rocker!
Believe it or not, Brown Sugar is by Mick jagger - including the riff.
Yes, it is ¡😎¡
Yep, wrote the whole dang thing all by his uber-talented self.
I think Wyman came up with JJF. Where is Street Fighting Man?????
@@TheEleatic ในชน
Keef plays it on the record though
And quite a variety of riffs they are too. Shows what a talent KR has for rock music.
Keef plays as good and simple as a chocolate candy. This guy did this. I don't understand who dislikes this sort of content.
Yes, and Ry Cooder taught Keith that 5 string open tuning technique. Once you know it, you can play every Stones song cold.
You can't play EVERY Stones song with g tuning since the first time he used it was in 1968. He also used open E( "Prodigal Son," "Street Fighting Man," and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are open E (E-B-E-Ab-B-E), with the latter two songs capo'd on the 8th fret so that they sound C-major), open D, overdubs in "Nashville" tuning (Wild Horses), Standard tuning on songs like Angie, Slave...
And all this with 5 strings. Well done !
Nice to see someone playing Richards' riffs with a guitar strung and tuned like Richards does his. Rare.
So it’s mostly open G tuning...
I do this a bit differently. I tune my Guitar to Open E & put a capo on the 3rd Fret to get Open G Tuning w/ a High G String.
Excellent. Love the Tele. What a sound.A nice combination of very nice guitars, lovely chord patterns, fine amp and a very good guitarist.
Pretty sure the opening riff on BITCH was Mick Taylor.
Jagger wrote the riff of Brown Sugar!
Great Riffs played very well by Miguel ! And mostly with 5 strings ! I like it ! Never got the idea to lose the low E string . Brilliant thought by Keith !
Or you could tune your Guitar to Open E & put a capo on the 3rd Fret to get Open G tuning but w/ a High G.
love the red tele .....gorgeous guitar
That one is almost a virtual replica of my 1980s Japan Custom Telecaster, right down to the aged binding. Mine, however sports a b/w/b pickguard and six saddle bridge.
@@telebob5983 Which color is it please ? Wine red ?
Citadel is one of my all time favourites by the Stones
You need to stop playing in the middle of Can't You Hear Me Knocking. The power's in how he stops and let's the riff ring out.
Keefs tha man 😎✌️ baddest cat in the history of music, a true living legend and outstanding musician
Excelent, very clear showcase of 10 great riffs by Keef.
Some Girls album has some Keef's best riffs as well. But I gotta say Tumbling Dice is probably my favorite.
Yeah. Beast of Burden is really slick.
Keith e divino e el paco de lucia do rock divino celso gomes sao paulo brasil desde 63 acompanho os stones
1:31 Greatest rock riff of all time
3:01
but the way he played it fucking ruined it !!!!
Absolute fire!
Shit, Townsend knows his Stones!!!
John Entwistle is back and preparing to join the Stones!
Awesome work. Just beautiful.
Camera angles, graphics, guitar types… this video is a clinic for anyone wanting to post themselves covering riffs. Well done Amigo!
3:53 Open E Tuning. If we capo up on the 3rd Fret, we now have Open G tuning w/ a High G string.
Classic five string for the 1st few songs. Beggars Banquet was the original album he displayed different tuning. Love that album because they seemed to be so happy in the studio being creative. They also had one of the best producer’s ever in the dear departed Jimmy Miller. Just an opinion.
Beggars banquet was the best Stones album arguably n showed just a peek of good they could be with Clapton on guitar
Hot Licks! Who needs to shred? Iconic Music, when you here it you immediately no the Song! Nice! CJ
Keith Richards is an absolute genius in some way. There is a reason why these riffs a known/played for decades.
Agree. He is the genius of simplicity and easiness. Great riffs!
Oh my God you rocked the can't you hear me knocking!
Brown Sugar riff was written by Mick Jagger! Lyrics and music all Jagger! Richards even acknowledges that in his book!
um...🤔...ok?
Danny Mayo! thanks! for the info! man!
What songs did Ry Cooder have something to do with?
Danny Mayo he didn’t play though, did he?
Richard’s sense of syncopation was extraordinary 🙏🏼
Great stuff, awesome guitars.
Nice job!! The beginning of Jumpin Jack Flash sounded like Street Fighting Man. This video makes me want to grab my Les Paul!!
Man I love this dudes tele and it sounds great to. But keef brought me here.
Can't You Hear Me Knockin' loses all meaning when you speed it up like that.
Chato vc hein...
Shut your face and enjoy.
@@victorzuri What's the matter, Victor? Having a bad day?? Someone steal your lunch money???
Can You Hear Me Knockin is my favorite riff.
En realidad es de Mick Taylor.
Sounding awesome 👌👍
Muy bueno riffs gracias
This is, jst, constaning my next dosen of future empty evenings! Shure it will blow out the dust down from my guitat!! Thank you!!! Do my best to follow you!
I've been a fan since Scratch appeared on a Beastie Boys album. He's amazing, a legend & 80 still jumping around.
Lovely to hear Citadel on there.
Great video, even took off the low E string in true K.R. fashion!👍🎸🇨🇦
Awesome video
There was something really off about all the playing. Yes, mostly the correct notes, (except "Gimme Shelter" which was wrong, and 'Rocks Off' too) but there is something like tempo, and pauses, subtleties.
pretty slick playing with 5.. Dig it
Brown Sugar isn´t Keith´s riff. Mick came with the idea.
Excellent...Thanks
WOW, THAT WAS FUN.
The background guitar plucking that goes behind the chorus of anybody seen my baby and the bridge part made me a mega Keith fan
ruclips.net/video/SnTjhXjQ6G4/видео.html
Keith Richards. . If a string gets in the way just remove the damn thing.
Brilliant 😃
Love the sound , and the guitar strap !
Riff Masters:
1. John Foggerty
2. Keith Richards
3.
4.
5.
Thanks for adding your choices.
Very good.
Although "cant you hear me knockin'" was way too fast ..
Genio. Re bueno.
Bravo sir.
No "Happy"? Doesn't get better than that IMO
Super excellent 👌
You gotta add the Keef swing and slow it down...
You gotta be Keef . And you need a polite gentleman jazz drummer , a tuneful but non assertive Bass player , a mate to fill in the bits you've forgotten and a narcissistic lunatic jumping around and shouting at the front . Shit , I've got goosebumps just reading this back to myself .
Beautiful tele
That Custom Shop Tele needs a humbucker and a brass bridge to get that Micawber sound
Brown Sugar's from Jagger. Even Keith admits that.
Well done.
I wish I could play this. Its great rock
Well = not quite . 0:35 ; Honk Tonk was a Jagger song after Keefer showed him open tuning because Jagger didn't really know how to play chords . Keefer added the intro
Thank you
Awesome job...Keith's riffs on Sympathy for the 😈 are pretty good. Even when Mick Taylor is on leads
Mike Cape Keith did one solo and Mick T did one on the live version from Get Your Ya-ya’s out. The studio version is all Keith.
Can't you hear me knocking has been made by mick Tylor no Keith richards. Saludos desde España
Raul Gomez keith made the intro and mick Taylor made the outro solo salir is de California
Keith plays rhythm mick Taylor played the solo and lead.
Yeah you can totally tell Richards is on rhythm
Good sound 👍🏻👍🏻
The sixth string is gone with jimmi H.
Mr guitarist had to sell it
Beast of burden my guy
the jumping jack flash sounds wrong
Eric Farran it sounds like the ya yas version
Turns out John Wick can play guitar too..
😂🤣😂🤣
More so Pete Townshend
There’s no sliding down after second note of brown sugar. That’s what makes it pop.
I always have thought that the guitar in Citadel is something great. Today I know I am Rigth
excellent!
even the 5String method :-)
Excellent...hermano....
Great performance...
Man, that Telecaster is sixties years old (sounds good)
Rocks Off!
The guy looks like Adrien Brody in “Pianist” lol
beautiful!
Correction; Brown Sugar, the Dis chord, you must put your ringfinger on the G string. Sorry Miguel, but I'm sure that I'm right on this.😊
Nice Miguel!
Yeah, nearly buddy 🙈🙈
Rushing it, dude.
This guy had the Keith's trick, no E string, A string turn down in G and G string turn down in F, just a geek here fellas
Young Pete Townsend has a youtube channel?
Gezz , your really good
Thanks a lot! Did you use the dirty channel of your Amp? Or a Pedal? Do you remember some of the Settings? Brown Sugar or Start Me Up for example?
Gracious
Some people will put absolutely anything on RUclips.
What model guitar is that Fender? I like the color. Can I buy one of them?
great job
Why no 6th string?
Keith Richards often plays like that when tuning to open G
Citadel 🖤🖤🖤🖤
