  • Today I'm taking you with me on my last trip during my time in Japan, when Melli and I visited Kyoto, Osaka, Tottori and Kurashiki. I shot a lot of film on this trip and in the video I'm giving you a very real look into all the photos and how most are very mediocre but a couple did turn out really nice!
Also big thank you to Whitewall for sponsoring the video and making some gorgeous prints of my work from this video!

Hello, hello I hope you enjoyed this video and the photography. I think this one is a great example of how I shoot so many mediocre photos to get the couple shots I'm really happy with :))

Hi Teo, a bit of a sentimental/sappy message:
I was fortunate enough to find you in the middle of your trip to Japan (or at least during your uploads of them) and it inspired me to dust off my Nikon D3100 I bought in 2012 and start taking pictures.
I'm going through a very deep depression right now and am trying to recover; I found that when I'm out taking pictures, my fatigue and lack of motivation just disappear, and I just focus on getting the best shot I can.
I think I've found a passion in photography, and I want to thank you, amongst others here on RUclips, for helping me find it. I'll be going back to work tomorrow for the first time in nearly a month, because now I have a goal of upgrading my gear and travelling.
One day, I'd like to do the same thing as you and spend 90 days in Japan; going to Japan has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager.
Thanks, Teo. Keep doing what you're doing; maybe it will help someone else like me.

I want you to know how much I find your videos a soothing balm to my soul. Your view of the world is full of kindness, curiosity, and joy in the smallest things. I share your attitude towards adding a little positivity to the world. Your voice is tender and humorous, with a humility to downgrade your own photos, which are always fantastic in the humanities they present. I sometimes even listen to them without watching while doing dishes, just letting your ideas in photography flows into my unconscious mind. Thank you again, and keep up the great work.

Love the mixture of photographs and short clips describing the situation and what you were doing. Then your shots are just beautiful! I don’t know if you’ve done it before, but what is it that you look for when going places? Do check the internet previously to your trips or do just go by the flow and shoot what impresses you (my guess)? Would love to hear some more thought processes even though explain your shots in general already! Great video again! 🤝

I am going to lake Biwa right near Kyoto next weekend and I am determined to finally get back into film. Got some Kodak gold, only warm filmstock I could immediately find, and I am hoping to get some good shots of Autumn colours
Also I really need to get good photos of the cranes in my town. I live in a very rural place and the cranes hang out in the rice paddies, but they are quite shy

literally binge watched your channel and loving every bit of it ❤🥰☺️ i would love to hear more about your thought process when it comes to taking pics when you're out and about.
if you don't mind me asking, what are your thoughts on consent re: photography? e.g. i love the koi pics but with the pic of the kid, would you check with the parents before or after especially since you're posting it online? it's not like you can delete the film right after? i'm just really curious since your approach to photography matches with my perspective but this one bit always feels like a hot take when i look it up online😅
ooo and another thing - i love your budget film collection video. i'm thinking of getting a gift for a cousin soon and seeing your demonstrations for each was so cool. i love how you cherish each item no matter who gave it! i'm not sure if i want to jump into the world of photography but you're definitely lighting a spark in me to try it, whether film or digital!

Aww thank you so much for the kind words!🥹🙏🏼
Ahhh it’s indeed a bit of a difficult topic. Personally I‘ve come to think of it this way: I only shoot with good intentions. And if I happen to capture a moment that really puts someone in a bad look, I‘ll keep it to myself and not show or publish it. So I see absolutely no problem with photographing people in public. In my case it’s a little tricky because I‘m also sharing the photos online, but that is where my moral idea comes into play. I will not show anything that is objectively a photo that makes someone look bad/ridiculous or in another way very negative.
Children on the other hand is even trickier. The koi fish child didn’t matter to me, because there was no face visible. However I have published a wide shot with a child quite visible in it without consent, where I really just totally forgot to think of that. In a video a little later I also showed a rather close up shot of a child in which case I censored a part of the child‘s face to anonymise them - for me that is enough to make me feel morally ok. This is by no means the right way, I believe there is no such thing as the one right way. This is just what I‘ve come to so far with the knowledge I have and the reflection I‘ve done, however I‘m always open to hearing new perspectives and adjusting my behaviour🤷🏻‍♂️
