I love your channel because whether it's the photographs, or the actual videos, you're a great storyteller. You inspire me to be more authentic in what I do, and help improve on my quality. 🙏
I love the photo of the mom and kids in the beginning. It is one I would have liked of myself with my five kids! Such a “day in the life moment” and I’m glad you captured it too. These Japan photo walks have been so relaxing to watch and I love that you are also going to regular neighborhoods like a local. I can’t wait to go back someday and experience more of Japan. Such a picturesque country!
I liked how you talked about how even a simple photograph now, just really documenting normal life, can one day mean so much more - evoking feelings of nostalgia. As always, great photos
I really enjoy your thoughtful commentary of so many of the photographs you choose to show. it encourages me to think much more critically about every image I make!
I used to live around Tachikawa and I used to drive everywhere around the places. Now that I live in central Tokyo I kind of miss it, and watching this video made it realize the place is actually quite interesting and makes me want to go back for a visit. but this time to actually walk around, take it slow, and take pictures!
I've heard that Japan is clean. But this is way more than my expectation. No single trash or leaves on most of the roads. As if they washed the streets diligently. Wow.
Loved this one Teo! I find myself becoming more and more interested in suburbs and everyday scenes as I travel more and find subtle differences from place to place. Those tiles on the River bed were really cool!!
Absolutely loved the intro shots Teo. Also I realized I’ve watched a bunch of your videos but never told you that you were a huge influence on me getting a Lumix gx85. It’s such a good pickup
I get overexposed Portra 400/ Portra 160/ and Fuji Pro 400H vibes from this film stock, which I really really like. The greens pop like they do on Pro 400H and the other colors have that light and "airy" contrast while giving that creamy pastel look. I will say, the reds on this stock is what separates it from the rest. As I type this and continue watching, the more and more I like it. Great video my brother, as always. :) Definitely going to be picking up a few rolls of this.
I actually loved the shot with the lady with the umbrella. I would have done it differently with the lady right infront of me, in line with her shadow, both being in the centre of the frame!
photographing smalltown and rural japan is my long-time dream, you are so lucky to be able to have done that 🤩 one day ill go on a trip there. one day.
Really enjoyed watching this. I did a lot of small town explorations around my city with camera before, now not so much. I need to do it again. Tokyo is a whole different beast though.
7:05 same here. I've started to practise street photography for few months now and it takes me a huge amount of courage to photograph people from the front (i think i've taken only 12-15 pics of those). It makes it difficult especially because i'm an introvert and pretty anxious guy by nature. living in a small town doesn't help either. Here you can literally walk through the "city" part in 5 minutes 😅. People also keep staring at me when i'm at the center of town taking pictures, so i usually give up and take pictures of birds or people's backs instead. But anyway; these videos are really cool 👍🏻 Calm style narrating with great looking pictures 💚. I hope you continue making these videos in the future 🐢
Teo, thanks again for letting us in on the creative process. May I say, you’re getting better! I’m enjoying your work more and more, man. Especially on the postcards Maybe l haven’t been watching for long enough but I’d love to see what you can do with ektar100. Just an idea 😉
Ahhh thank you so much for your kind words Angie!🫶🏼🥹 I‘ve shot Ektar 100 only once before actually, but you can even check out the results on the channel: ruclips.net/video/kCjSV6OH29I/видео.html But I hope to shoot more soon☺️
Thanks for your video! Question tho, I am travelling to asia soon and I am going back and forth whether to bring lumix MFT or Canon full frame DSLR. (I am thinking of bringing 35mm and mamiya 645 as well) Which would you recommend?
Personally I would go with the smaller camera. The positives of the size and convenience outweigh the negatives in quality by far for me. I‘ve shooting so much more with my little Lumix simply because it‘s so easy to bring with me. I would never shoot as much if I only had my Sony A7iii with me👀🙌🏼
This is a wonderful video. Thank you so much for it! I really enjoyed the photos you took. Also, because the colors are great. You master the composition and even though I know, you are too modest to nod your head now, this makes you even more sympathetic. Keep up your great work!
What lens do were you using here? I love the shots of your trip to Japan so far, and I have been looking for a nice lens for my own Pentax K1000, it would be lovely for you to let me know :)
Honestly it‘s not that nice of a lens, but it was cheap and it works just fine. It‘s a Cosinon 35mm f/2.8. But I also have a Pentax 50mm f/1.7 which feels much nicer so if you can spend a little extra I‘m sure there‘s also a Pentax 35mm lens that‘ll probably be better than what I‘ve got👍🏼
On the "taking pictures of peoples' backs" comments: personally I do it because it leaves an air of mystery of the subject. Just as well, it kind of feels like you're doing whatever you're doing and you just so happen to look up and notice someone is there doing their own thing. You both exist and don't have to acknowledge each other, it's life in and of itself: when you're walking down the road and see the delivery person putting a package in the mail, you might pass by and never see their face, they might see you pass only seeing your back or they might not have noticed you were even there. I think Street Photography is whatever story you're wanting to tell and it doesn't matter how you tell it: if it's from behind the subjects as they look onto the landscape, or showing what they are seeing/ interacting with, then so be it.
Lovely shots, but I wonder if you got the mom's permission to photograph her kids and publish the photos on the internet? Maybe Japan is more tolerant but it's not something we'd do in the UK.
Ohhh shoot I totally forgot to think of that! I‘ve been thinking about this topic for a while actually because I have a couple photographs of kids rather close up which I do not feel comfortable just sharing on the internet without permission. I think I forgot about that in this case because it‘s not a close photo but a rather wide scene featuring them in almost a silhouetted manner. Would you completely refrain from sharing the photographs or do you think showing them with anonymity (blurred face or such) is alright? I‘d be curious to hear your thoughts🙏🏼
@@teocrawford It might be country-specific, but in the UK the generally accepted philosophy is "don't take pictures of kids without the parents express permission". In the case of your photo the faces are clearly visible, I wouldn't say they're silhouetted particularly. It's a shame because otherwise it really is a very good photo, beautifully balanced, lovely colours.
I love your channel because whether it's the photographs, or the actual videos, you're a great storyteller. You inspire me to be more authentic in what I do, and help improve on my quality. 🙏
