Dehancer + Japan is our favourite combo 😄 Thank you, Teo, for using Dehancer to edit your images from Tokyo. They look beautiful and we think you did great with your challenge! If anyone has any questions about Dehancer, feel free to ask us in the comments below 😉
I do understand the subconscious aversion to photographing people front-facing. I have found success standing in one place holding my camera up at a scene I liked and waiting for people to naturally stroll in-frame. Great content as always 🙏🏼
It amazes me the difference of reactions you get when taking photos with a phone vs a camera. Even with my Leica X1 people react or react negatively whereas when I use my phone NOBODY CARES. Great idea to use your phone to practice photographing people from the front or profile. I like the Winogrand move where you pretend like you have no idea how your camera works and you snap a pick while you fumble around with it. Dehancer looks great. I’ve been using RNI Films and I just got the Dazz Cam app to make my iPhone photos look like old digicams. Great video!
I have been enjoying the Japan content, especially the windows and greenery in the city. I am drawn to similar scenes and remember being so inspired when visiting Japan. I think this is an interesting practice in street photography, but personally I’ve never wanted to have photos of strangers and typically wait for them to pass or capture when they are faced away. (So I actually really like what you’ve shown us so far!) Perhaps it has to do with why I take photos, which is more as a historian of my family, so I want my loved ones in the frame instead. I’ve always wondered what the lure of capturing absolute strangers while passing by on the street is . 🤷🏻♀️ However, I like seeing/hearing your thought process through your sessions. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I think there's no point in doing street photography if you're only ever going to shoot people from the back. I can't stand it to be honest. Be open and honest about what you are doing, don't be a creeper. People will be ok, give them a smile or thumbs up and don't get in their way.
dude im headed to Japan in 4 weeks, spending a few days in Tokyo first, and your videos have helped immensely in terms of what parts of Tokyo I want to focus on
Another banger like always, Teo. Particularly loved the shadows that were cast in this area, seems like you chose a great time of day for lighting to spice up your shots and the presets you used in Dehancer really look great with these photos. Loved a lot of the compositions in this as well. My some of my "oooooh" moments were at 3:28 + 6:20 + 13:40 as well as 19:20 - lovely shots here and I like that today was an iPhone shooting day. Keep up the good work mate!
great video as always teo! if you're wanting to experiment more with mobile photography, I would recommend checking out some of the lenses that the company 'moment' makes as you could get different focal lengths.
Ohhh yeah, I know... sorry about that. :( I've told them to pleeease make it for android and they said it's on their to-do list but I'm afraid not all too high yet, because I haven't heard of any progress in that department. :/
I like the Dehancer effects and the editor, but they are wayyy too expensive for my taste. That is Adobe territory. So I guess I'll stick with FilmConvert for Video for now.
Bikes are always a good subject in street photography, in my opinion. I am also shy shooting people and being noticed. Especially in Europe. In Japan, however, I feel like people will not easily say something to me if I shoot them, bur rhw hard part is to keep them natural and not disturbed by being photographed :) not easy, not easy… but so fun to do!
Hi Teo! I really enjoyed your video. I hope you visit in South Korea someday. I might can escort you. There is a lot of great place in here. Hope you enjoy your life. Thx 😊
Out of topic but could you please show how you edit your videos like this colors are soft and has studio ghibli aesthetics looks great love the train station pictures
Do you mean the colour grading? I have an old tutorial from two years ago, which shows a bit of a different look, but the process is basically the same. If you want more in depth stuff though I actually just published a new tutorial on Patreon showing step by step how I achieved the look in the recent video from Kamakura👀🙌🏼 But to put it simply: Warm up the footage with the temperature slider and add more warmth with curves or the colour wheels. Keep contrast low, lower it if necessary. Keep saturation decently high for strong almost dreamy colours☺️🙌🏼
an interesting process; thanks for sharing! I also struggle with taking photos of people out in public, but I feel more trustworthy with an actual camera compared to my phone. I have gotten more comfortable just taking the shot, or like you, letting others walk in to the frame with some planning. Asking for permission always feels awkward and ruins the natural side of things, and also I am sure the culture is somewhat different here in the US . Cheers
Good lighting is key and the editing helps a lot✨🙌🏼 It’s an iPhone 11 (normal one, not max or pro or anything), but I’m pretty sure you can achieve similar results with other fairly modern phones🤔
Interesting.. because I find photos without people's expression to be better. Their body language speaks volume. Yet another great video Teo. Do you live in Japan?
where in tokyo is this? I am visiting Japan soon and would really like doing some photography like you do, but i dont know in which parts of Tokyo to look, for a more suburban feeling like here.
Ohh you’ll find quiet spots like here super easily - basically anywhere but the city centre haha. Just take a train up north or north east or west and get off somewhere that’s a bit further away from places like Shinjuku. This is quite far out in Tachikawa, but even just taking the Chuo Line half way will take you to similar places👍🏼
To all those saying you need to take pictures of peoples faces in Japan: It's less of a legal greyzone than in most countries and people can sue you for it. You need permission to share online. Which is ridiculous. But those are the rules, so if you break them and someone give you shit it's all on you.
Hello hello, I hope you enjoyed the video!
Hey, in your last video, you use this cyber punk film could you let me know your camera settings that you use for that film

I wish I could edit like you.
Do you think that you felt more likely to shoot vertically while you were using your phone more than if you used the Pentax?
Ahhh interesting question, now that you say that… I think so indeed🤔
4:32 this photograph makes me think of Alice In Boarderland
how do you get such good photos on your phone? what phone is that?

Good job practicing with the phone. As a challenge would be nice to limit yourself to 36 shots to make it like shooting on film.
Thanks Johnny! Ohhh my that’s a whole nother challenge hahah! With my phone I go pretty wild on the shutter🫣
ちょっと一言😅珍しいかもしれんが、あまりにも平凡😆
hello!
the fake film halation is overdone imo
