I have now retired. I no longer need a UC account. How do I (completely) DELETE my UC account, or will it morph into a Chinese style social credit account?
Pleased that I can now put UC behind me, as became a state pensioner in February 2022 aged 66, felt sorry for all those on UC, the problems that they may have encountered. All the best, and take care.
Hi Peter I wonder if you maybe able to answer this question. I have calculated that's a customer would be better off under universal credit if they migrate from TC. But they would essentially lose the benefit of free dental help and school meals as under UC the threshold is 935 per month as TC it is 16000 pa a slight difference when worked out monthly...is there any protection for those who will possibly miss out ?
ive been on U,C since 2018, my work coach informed me in april that i should've been assessed for work capability as ive been handing in sick notes from the beginning. then he didnt put me forward for the assessment, i only found this out a couple of days ago. he has been stringing me along all this time. im now awaiting my assessment. is it possible to get any extra benefit backdated? and do you know how to go about reporting this coach? great info from you once again Peter, thanks a lot
Hi Monty, thats terrible to hear. The citizens advice says: ''You might not have claimed in time because the DWP told you the wrong thing. If this happens you can complain and ask for compensation.'' You can check out more info on it here: bit.ly/3mGVdpn Hopefully that helps. If you put in a complaint and request compensation, keep me updated on how it goes if you don't mind
Hi Monty, I was handing in sick notes too and I had a phone assessment. I was awarded LCW but I don't get any extra money. I just dont have to look for work. I hope you get extra payments. You'll need them, especially now we're all losing 20 pounds a week....

Also, I have a joint account with my husband because he is disabled and by picking more hours I don’t want to impact his universal credit payment. How will it work please explain

I'm trying to apply for universal credit but they are asking for my landlord details..I genuinely don't want my landlord to know because I don't pretend to be on universal credit for too long, I'm looking for job..
Does th amount you can get be told to you when you apply. As you state in the video the advance amount will be what you are entitled to so will what your entitled to be told to you when you make the application as in on that day?
How much Universal credit payment does a family of 3 receive if working part time? My husband's income is 800 Pounds. Can you please answer me on this subject? I don't know much about it. They make deductions all the time. Actually, I have a few more questions I want to ask.
so what exactly is universal credit? i will be going on to it soon as my circumstances are changing does it replace all other benefits so i will just get one ? thanks
How do I get on UC and PIP like my neighbours, who sit around smoking and drinking and getting takeaways each day. They have a much better lifestyle than me and no worries, even though I work full-time. They have a better car too.
What I did , was pretend I was being bullied at work , I went to apply for universal credit, the lady at jobcentre didn't really like my excuse for suddenly quitting my job so she sanctioned me for three weeks. But since then I was claiming the full amount of money , rent paid and nicer car now . Good luck 🤞🏻 and enjoy the free time 🥰
Hi What can I do regarding deductions please ? I am a full time carer receiving carers allowance & UC. Since 2018 I have had a total of approx £5,000 paid back in arrears & deductions and penalty’s . My rent arrears were £150 prior to claiming UC . An alternative payment arrangement was put in place PRIOR to me claiming UC , yet my rent arrears 7 months later was £6,000 :( They did not pay any housing costs for 3 months & some months £0 . I have been surviving on £90 a week that just covers utilities, I have had to go to food banks . I also have been receiving eviction notices . At the same time for four years we had no heating or hot water due to a faulty boiler . We regularly have plumbing issues which means we have many floods . I am at my wits end & stressed .
@@PeterWilhelm - hi, thanks for the information. One question, my Son is an 18 year old universal credit claimant and he had an appointment at the jobcentre today and the work coach said he needs to go there once a week!! Is that correct?? I had looked everywhere online and it says universal claimants need to go to the jobcentre once every three months! not once a week, which might I add, costs a fortune in bus fare. I said to the work coach, as I went along with my Son, can't my Son have phone appointments? and the work coach said 'no, we have to do what the government tells us and they don't want phone appointments anymore'. He also said the once a week appointments were the rules, however I don't think he was entirely telling the truth. Can you help please!? :-)
@@climbingthemountain26. Hi, The frequency of your appointments vary depending on your circumstances and level of claim, but I believe it is also down to the discretion of the work coach. The meeting every three months is usually for people who are claiming universal credit but are slef-employed and trying to build their income/business to a level where they no longer need UC. Regular UC appointments with a work coach are usually every 2 weeks but can be weekly if you work coach says so. Some people say they do this because they don't believe the claimant is doing everything they can to find work. Others say they do it as a way to inconvenience you to try and get you to miss appointments so they can sanction you or just get you to not bother claiming, both are ways of them saving money. In terms of phone appointments, while some people may still be on phone appointments, things are slowly being transitioned back to face to face, and unless you are sick or have a valid reason, you have to attend or they will sanction you. I believe you can claim expenses for your travel to and from the job centre for appointments so you can bring that up with the work coach next time. Hope that helps, take care
Hi.i got universal credit at the moment..today i just stop working ,in the factory where i been for 9 years...how to let know universal credit about that?what section to chose to let them know about that?thank you
A friend wants me to apply for working credit as i work fulltime and have some businesses under my name. She wants to be able to get a place to live with her kids and use my name as i work fulltime. Are there any setbacks for me? What should i be worried about please?
Don’t do it. I don’t know if there’s any setbacks tbh but no friend should ask you for a property in your name. I assume you will be liable for any failed payments or damage to the property as it’s in your name. These two things sound inevitable to me, kids damage properties, carpets, flooring, walls, etc. Also if she can’t afford to sort herself out, there is a chance that she may fall behind on payments and you will be liable. Also I’m sure if she’s trying to do something under your name then it may be benefits fraud (I’m not so certain though). If I was you I would say you applied and that you were refused because of your parents’ savings/partners income or some other bs story. That way you don’t have to say no but you’re basically saying no.
Hi. If I go to work part time (I have arthritis and struggle with lots of things) I understand I will only get to keep 37p per pound, but will I lose my entitlement to housing benefit if I start earning extra cash please. Thanks, Amy.
Hi Amy, thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment! To answer your question there are work allowances that let you earn a certain amount before they start reducing your payments but this is dependent on your individual circumstances like who you are living with, disabilities or limited capability to work etc. The best bet before you make any decisions is to ask or send a message to your work coach asking them how your benefits will be affected if you begin to work, they are the only ones who can give you an accurate answer for your specific situation. Sorry I couldn't give an exact answer, I hope your work coach provides the answers you are looking for! Take care
@@PeterWilhelm Hi Peter, thanks. The reason that I asked you was that my work coach didn't seem to know. She just told me about the 63p in the pound reduction. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough :0) Thanks again, Amy.

Hey peter, I have a question, i work full time and do 37.5 hours a week and am married with 2 kids but my wife doesnt work, we are already claiming UC but we dont get much because of my wage is abit high, i just wanted to know on how accurate is the turn2us calculator because according to that, 90% of my rent could be paid. And also how long does it take for the housing benefit to start? Or is that not classed as housing benefit? Please help!
Hi Jaz, Sorry for the delayed reply. turn2us is actually the one that the government recommend people use on their website, so it should be accurate. I have a question though, has your situation changed since you first made a claim for universal credit? that could be your job, wages, living situation, kids etc. because if you are already claiming UC but nothing has changed then there should be a reason why you wasn't offered housing benefits from the start. Housing benefits are slowly being replaced by UC so it is important if you have had a change of circumstances that is putting you in a worse financial position that you let them know so your benefits can be adjusted accordingly. I cant say how long it would take because every situation is different. My first bet would be to speak to your work coach for UC to see what they say about it and how they suggest you move forward. Hopefully that helps, let me know if there are any other questions I can help with.
@@PeterWilhelm we was living with my parents as a joint family in one house but me and my wife and kids have moved out now as of middle of october, obviously my expenses will be alot more now with the rent and evrything so we’v let them know but still as of today we havent seen a change in my payments from them, am guessing it take a month for it to kick in i guess, any idea on how long it takes by anychance?
I have receiving universal credit I am living council house but after court discsion I received 30000 pounds from my ex partner does it effect my universal credit?
Hi, when you get your payments they are for the period of the previous month, not the upcoming month. So for example if you get your first payment on 30th March, that payment for the month prior. So even though you are waiting 5 weeks, the first payment you get is for that period you have been waiting. Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know and I will try again 😂 If you are currently in the 5 week period and struggling you can get an advance from them which Is paid back by taking small amounts from future payments.
Thankyou yes that makes sense does this mean I will always be in debt with my rent then as the advance does not cover the amount I needed for rent aswell as food and electric etc x
Thanks for your information, it did help, is there other government schemes to clear debts I got loan and credit card to clear low income, please let me know. Thanks
What happens if I refuse to look for work because of mental health issues but can't get a doctors certificate for it. Can I still get some universal credit to pay my rent, utilities and food?
Get the doctor to refer you to the mental health dept. Doctors are not allowed to diagnose mental health but mental health teams will assess and diagnose. If you get the right diagnosis you can then claim ill health and have a stronger case for the DWP. Good luck.
I would like to know what I can do or who to contact about my Jobcentre being changed. My nearest center is 1 mile away, 10/15 minutes walking distance, to 1 on the other side of the city center 4 miles away, 1 to 2 hours dependent on traffic conditions and if the bus is on time. I tried contacting and asking for advice at the job center, they advised me to get in contact with my local councillor. Which I did and only received a reply asking for my address and no other information or help provided. So what's going on with this Universal Credit and changing peoples jobcenters? Why am I being forced to go to JC so far away, I am not happy and i want my JCchanged back to my local :/
That is a good question, Ive never been able to find the answer to that. I believe they move people around different job centres to deal with demand/staffing issues. You may have already tried but you could ask your work coach about it by putting a note in your journal, or try calling the universal credit helpline and explain the situation and that it is hard for you to get to the job centre you have been assigned to. Let me know if you manage to get it sorted. Thanks
1 mile or 4 miles is not far. In Wales some job centres are over 20 miles away depending on location. If you are not working does it matter how long the journey takes?
thank you for this video ,please can i ask you this question,if you are in universal credit claim can someone use your address to look for work. can it affect claim

Hi I want to know how do I report a change of circumstances if I do two jobs how do they know which job I’m making changes of as it doesn’t give me an option it just says what date the change occurred and the next if I’m employed or not? So the first job I finished the second one I’m still continuing. The questions just are employed or not and if employed when the change occurred which I have already reported when I started my second job so do I need to report again?
It is not based on the hours you work but on how much you earn. For every £1 you earn in your job you will lose 63p from your Universal Credit. So with your current work, if you earn enough to where 63% of your earnings is more than you would get on Universal credit then you will not get any UC payment. Does that make sense?
To who faced closed application and applied for new one. Remember you still can appeal for back pay date. I keep contacting to the citizens advice. What gave me a lot information what to do next. As my first application has ben close. I'm fight they pay from date my first application was applied. The universal credit in journaling wouldn't to do nothing. As they played around with me. Till you not contacting to coach in your application. No latter with decision why they has closed my application. To old previous application there no access. Till you not do mandatory reconsideration they would iven listen to you. So I called to universal credit helpline. Now they accepted my appeal as I asked mandatory reconsideration appeal.
Hi Peter, Thanks for doing this video its been extremely helpful. I do have one question though. If you dont qualify for UC because of your earning can you still get the childcare support of up to 85% of the cost of childcare?
Hello I’m an European citizen who live in UK (I have permanent statut)more than 5 years and for first time I’m an unemployed, what universal credit can I using?
Hi Peter. I am a UK passport holder. My wife is on spouse visa. As we are living together, applying for Universal Credit (UC) requires to make a joint claim. I want to ask can we make a joint claim as spouse visa says "no public funds". Please guide in this regard, Thanks.
Hi, once you apply you will be told if you need to make an appointment and what documents to take with you. You might be asked to bring evidence, for example: a current tenancy agreement, rent statement or rent book a signed letter from your landlord (saying that you live there, pay rent and are living there legally) details of service charges you’re responsible for a current mortgage agreement, mortgage statement or bank statement showing mortgage payments details of any loan agreements secured on your property I dont know your exact situation so I dont know for sure what they will need but they will let you know based on what you say in your application
Ok standard allowance for me now the extra £20 is gone is £324 my rent is £384 a month (without gas elec water council tax etc) at the moment I’m still on JSA as I’m literally scared of changing to UC don’t really want to claim until it’s absolutely compulsory. What do I do?
Hi Kelly, I'm pretty sure when on UC you will be able to claim housing benefit to help with your rent, that will mean the £324 allowance you are eligible for will be fore the other living costs that you mentioned. If you feel you are getting enough on JSA and don't want to change then I would just not say anything about it until they bring up the change themselves. If you want to compare to see what you could be eligible for compared to what you are currently getting, you can try using a benefits calculator like the one on turn2us website. I hope this helps, let me know if there are any other questions I can help with.
Hi thanks for the feedback. I think this would be a tricky situation just due to the fact that some people could claim to have split up in order to get housing benefits to pay their ex (who they are actually still with) because of this they have the following rules: "Renting from a former partner You can’t get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for a home you used to live in as a couple, or if you have a child with your ex and your child lives with you. It does not matter if the ex-partner is not your most recent ex. You can get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for somewhere you never lived together as a couple, as long as you do not have a child with your ex who continues to live with you." I hope that answers your question

I wanted to know if I could leave my 20 hours work and go to college and me and my wife still get universal credit
Hi Rundle, sorry for the late reply. It is certainly possible but I can't guarantee you would be accepted or how much you could get. You can use a benefits calculator like turn2us where you enter your exact circumstances and they will let you know what you are eligible for. I hope that helps!
Hi, the amounts change depending on your individual circumstances. To get an accurate answer you can google turn2us benefits calculator, this will give you an idea of what you would be eligible for before you apply
Hi, it is possible for you to get Universal Credit in this scenario, but your husbands situation is taken into account and how much you get, if anything, will depend on a number of factors, including how much your partner is earning. UC website says: "You can claim Universal Credit if you and/or your partner are in employed or self-employed work and are on a low income. If you are unsure about your eligibility please complete an online application form. You’ll be asked more questions to check your eligibility when you make a claim for Universal Credit."

Hi Max, There is no limit to the amount of hours you can work on Universal credit, you can work more than 16 hours if you are able to. What does matter though is the amount you earn. You must report your earning to them, and for every £1 you earn in employment, you universal credit it reduced by 55p. Let me know if you have any other questions Peter
Hi Peter thanks for your video, I'm on UC and single with 2children, but recently gained admission and studying nursing, please my question is do I have to inform UC that I'm now in university in other not to get a sanction for not telling them as I got maintenance loan from schooling please reply 🙏 thank you.
Hi Lola, Yes you need to inform UC of any changes of circumstances. If you don't and they find out you will most likely get a sanction. University students aren't usually eligible for universal credit but it depends on things like if you are part time or full time students, and the fact you have 2 children will be taken into account as well. You can report a change of circumstances through your online account, and use a benefits calculator like turn2us to see how this will affect your benefits going forward. I hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!
@@PeterWilhelm thanks for your reply, I went to student services today in my university, I was told the same thing you said now, so I will call UC tomorrow as I couldn't find the option of being a student on their site so hopefully I will be sorted. Thanks once again.
Thank you for this informative video. In fact I was told that working full time means losing my UC benefits even if the salary is less than my UC? How can I make sure about this?
Hi Fawaz, Thanks for checking out the video. To answer your question that is not true. For example if you picked up one shift and was paid only £50, you would not lose all of your Universal Credit, because that would leave you in an impossible situation. For every £1 you earn in your job you will lose 63p of Universal Credit payment, So for example if your UC was around £400, you would need to be earning around £600 in employment before your UC payment was reduced to 0. I hope this makes sense. But if you need more clarification, send your work coach a message and they will be able to explain it further in relation to your specific situation.
I want to ask how much money i earn in 16 hours part time its not effect my universal credit it will not reduce my payment i take 334.95 every month from job centre
I’m scared. I have not been able to reset my universal credit password for months. However, it will send me my username if prompted but no way of resetting my password from my phone. They said they never had this happen to anyone before. I can’t remember if I used swearwords for my last password and maybe that’s why??😂
I'm not sure using swearwords would cause a problem with passwords to be honest. Have you tried calling the UC helpline? They may be able to help you quicker

Great content and fantastic video layout. Are you an expert on UC? I tried to connect with you on social media but could accurately locate you or your website
Great videos thanks. If a friend sends me some crypto via coinbase app and I transfer it to my bank account. If it's only £100 or £200 will this effect my universal credit payments?
Thanks I hope you found it useful! .. If you did that transfer it wouldn't affect your Universal Credit. they don't have access to your bank account to see what is coming in or out. They could send you as much as you want. Two main things to note is that if you have more than £16,000 in savings, then you would have to report it and wouldn't be eligible for UC and the second is if you work and earn money you have to report it and this will reduce your UC amount. So if you get paid and pay tax or paid through your national insurance number they may find it so its it is important to report that. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Actually, I have a few more questions I want to ask.
so what exactly is universal credit? i will be going on to it soon as my circumstances are changing does it replace all other benefits so i will just get one ? thanks
Hello, good Mr I want to ask you a question. I have Universal C and I want to make a loan to my bank. Do you know if this will harm me if I do it?
How do I get on UC and PIP like my neighbours, who sit around smoking and drinking and getting takeaways each day. They have a much better lifestyle than me and no worries, even though I work full-time. They have a better car too.
Lol😅
What I did , was pretend I was being bullied at work , I went to apply for universal credit, the lady at jobcentre didn't really like my excuse for suddenly quitting my job so she sanctioned me for three weeks.
But since then I was claiming the full amount of money , rent paid and nicer car now . Good luck 🤞🏻 and enjoy the free time 🥰

Hi
What can I do regarding deductions please ?
I am a full time carer receiving carers allowance & UC.
Since 2018 I have had a total of approx £5,000 paid back in arrears & deductions and penalty’s .
My rent arrears were £150 prior to claiming UC . An alternative payment arrangement was put in place PRIOR to me claiming UC , yet my rent arrears 7 months later was £6,000 :(
They did not pay any housing costs for 3 months & some months £0 .
Very informative video . Probably more clear and well explained then the Gov website itself
Haha trying to use the gov website for some of the research for this video was a real headache! 😂.. thanks for the feedback! 🙏🏾
I'm sure I'll find out soon enough :0) Thanks again,

Hey peter,
I have a question, i work full time and do 37.5 hours a week and am married with 2 kids but my wife doesnt work, we are already claiming UC but we dont get much because of my wage is abit high, i just wanted to know on how accurate is the turn2us calculator because according to that, 90% of my rent could be paid.
And also how long does it take for the housing benefit to start? Or is that not classed as housing benefit?
Please help!
Hi Jaz,
Sorry for the delayed reply.
turn2us is actually the one that the government recommend people use on their website, so it should be accurate.
Hello do you get the Money backdated for the time you received no benefits during the assessment period which is 5 weeks? X
Hi, when you get your payments they are for the period of the previous month, not the upcoming month.
So for example if you get your first payment on 30th March, that payment for the month prior. So even though you are waiting 5 weeks, the first payment you get is for that period you have been waiting.
Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know and I will try again 😂
If you are currently in the 5 week period and struggling you can get an advance from them which Is paid back by taking small amounts from future payments.
Thankyou yes that makes sense does this mean I will always be in debt with my rent then as the advance does not cover the amount I needed for rent aswell as food and electric etc x
Am working on a Cis contract ,Do I give the amount that I receive or the amount before CIS tax is taking off ??

Hi I want to know how do I report a change of circumstances if I do two jobs how do they know which job I’m making changes of as it doesn’t give me an option it just says what date the change occurred and the next if I’m employed or not? So the first job I finished the second one I’m still continuing. The questions just are employed or not and if employed when the change occurred which I have already reported when I started my second job so do I need to report again?
I still Don't get one point if I'm working 30 hours per week. Do they expect I find job full time?
It is not based on the hours you work but on how much you earn. For every £1 you earn in your job you will lose 63p from your Universal Credit.
So with your current work, if you earn enough to where 63% of your earnings is more than you would get on Universal credit then you will not get any UC payment. Does that make sense?

hi, Peter, what documents they will ask to prove how much is my rent ? thanks
Hi, once you apply you will be told if you need to make an appointment and what documents to take with you. You might be asked to bring evidence, for example:
a current tenancy agreement, rent statement or rent book
a signed letter from your landlord (saying that you live there, pay rent and are living there legally)
details of service charges you’re responsible for
a current mortgage agreement, mortgage statement or bank statement showing mortgage payments
details of any loan agreements secured on your property
I dont know your exact situation so I dont know for sure what they will need but they will let you know based on what you say in your application
Ok standard allowance for me now the extra £20 is gone is £324 my rent is £384 a month (without gas elec water council tax etc) at the moment I’m still on JSA as I’m literally scared of changing to UC don’t really want to claim until it’s absolutely compulsory. What do I do?
Hi Kelly,
I'm pretty sure when on UC you will be able to claim housing benefit to help with your rent, that will mean the £324 allowance you are eligible for will be fore the other living costs that you mentioned.
You'll get a letter telling you to change over to UC by a certain date.
If you have a 2 bedroom place for rent as a single person would UC have any impact on it? And if you stayed with a friend would UC still pay the rent?
They would want you to rent a room out seeing as you have extra room .
Great video. Single parent with two kids under 8. Can i rent house from my ex that she own?
Hi thanks for the feedback.
I think this would be a tricky situation just due to the fact that some people could claim to have split up in order to get housing benefits to pay their ex (who they are actually still with)
because of this they have the following rules:
"Renting from a former partner
You can’t get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for a home you used to live in as a couple, or if you have a child with your ex and your child lives with you.
It does not matter if the ex-partner is not your most recent ex.
You can get housing benefit if you pay rent to an ex-partner for somewhere you never lived together as a couple, as long as you do not have a child with your ex who continues to live with you."
I hope that answers your question

Hi Rundle, sorry for the late reply. It is certainly possible but I can't guarantee you would be accepted or how much you could get. You can use a benefits calculator like turn2us where you enter your exact circumstances and they will let you know what you are eligible for. I hope that helps!

Hi, it is possible for you to get Universal Credit in this scenario, but your husbands situation is taken into account and how much you get, if anything, will depend on a number of factors, including how much your partner is earning.
UC website says:
"You can claim Universal Credit if you and/or your partner are in employed or self-employed work and are on a low income.
If you are unsure about your eligibility please complete an online application form. You’ll be asked more questions to check your eligibility when you make a claim for Universal Credit."
@D C if he earns little over minimum wage you'll get nothing. Best off he moves out lives in a tent then you can claim single parent

does it a on Universalffect you if you work 16 hours Credit
Hi Max,
There is no limit to the amount of hours you can work on Universal credit, you can work more than 16 hours if you are able to.
What does matter though is the amount you earn. You must report your earning to them, and for every £1 you earn in employment, you universal credit it reduced by 55p.
Let me know if you have any other questions

Two main things to note is that if you have more than £16,000 in savings, then you would have to report it and wouldn't be eligible for UC
and the second is if you work and earn money you have to report it and this will reduce your UC amount. So if you get paid and pay tax or paid through your national insurance number they may find it so its it is important to report that.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
