the entire mental health rates have been rising at hige rates for some time amongst the unemployed and people on benefits and universal credit has just made things even worse, it's the whole system that's designed to take money away from those who need it rather than actually trying to help them, that and the insane waiting time to get on it really doesn't help, people have gone onto it who are dying and don't get on until they've already died and have sopent their last months worrying and struggling to pay for things. and what does the govenment worry about? the colour of our bloody passports.

UBI is a step in the right direction. It's been shown that it can improve things, but the underlying structure of our system would remain the same, compete, gain money and power, be a bit selfish, win. Until we can get more people to realise the damage that type of mentality perpetuates, we will always be in the brown stuff, it will only be the depth that changes.
"People are going to turn to crime because of UC| And why wouldn't they? If society doesn't care about them, why should they care for society? Laws which only benefit the well off are of little use to those at the bottom of the pile. Either being a citizen and part of society actually means something or it doesn't. That's why the welfare state is so important.
This UC system has been specifically designed to be unnecessarily complicated and extremely difficult for claimants to tick all the required boxes, which consistently change. In this way the government hope to save hundreds of millions per year through claimants who simply loose hope, give up attempting to make a legitimate claim or are sanctioned within the minefield of bureaucratic hurdles. It amounts to a form of population cleansing where those most in need, are scrubbed out by their own hand. No government truly cares about its own people. It only exists to feather the nests of those without a conscience, morals or empathy for another human being.
UC sums up the Conservative party. They make a positive effort to be cruel. They actively seek new ways to kick the people in most need with the least ability to defend themselves.

I have a similar story to the stories in the report. Me and my partner have worked all our lives. Then two years ago she got diagnosed with cancer and has been in a battle ever since. Because of this she is unable to work and the way the benefit system works I had to go part time as well because if I earn over a certain amount she can get no help at all. And why wouldn't they? If society doesn't care about them, why should they care for society? Laws which only benefit the well off are of little use to those at the bottom of the pile. Either being a citizen and part of society actually means something or it doesn't. That's why the welfare state is so important.
davida1b2c3d4c5 - I agree! So many people have had no choice but to turn to shop-lifting - what can they do when they have no money for food?!
It is hardhearted callous people who caused it.
Yes, tory voters.

Especially those customers with mental health conditions due to a previous traumatic call in 2019. My manager instead of letting me do admin work told me if I had a customer who threatened suicide to end the call and hope another work coach would call them back. I refused.
time to stand up and put an end to this madness. what a nation of idiots we are for allowing this to happen.
Yep!...this is why the elite call us..."useless eaters" or "sheeple." They aren't far of the mark really. Every single one of us should boycott our council tax payments. What are they going to do...throw all of us in prison!?!?!?🙄

Absolutely disgusting. This country is the world's fifth biggest economy but the poverty gap is shocking and not acceptable. These Tory MPs should be MADE to walk a day in these people's shoes as part of their induction. They are too out of touch.
I was encouraged to get off benefits when I was going to college part time for my second year by my job coach and she said the Jobcentre consider going to college part time was the same AS full time. I had to show the Jobcentre proof that I was allowed to stay on benefits while studying part time.
Disgraceful system riddled with flaws.
