    It looks like you were spinning the rears some on your launch. Put a 2" wide white mark on the sidewall then put wifey to work video taping the rear tire when you launch. You'll be able to see how much tire spin there is then you can drop the pressure. Also the sun hitting one tire and not the other will vary the pressure as someone said.. Also skinnier tires in the front will make a difference in your ET. less rolling resistance and also less unsprung weight. The bigger and wider a tire obviously the heavier it is. Don't know if that was bracket or elims or just fun n grudge but when that yellow light flashes you nail it. You wait for the green you give 0.5 secs. away. It may not seem like much but 0.5 on the tree is 0.5 at 1,320 ft. and at 120 mph that's 88 feet! It's 88 feet you just gave away! If you would have reacted on the yellow and cut a .430 light (which IS very good) you would have welded his ass to the tree holeshotted the shit out of him and beat him by .001". Good point on the arm position. Keep it matted when you shift just stab the clutch and don't miss. Lots of practice.

    I started using these tires back in the late 90s and the 60 foot times are consistent as hell(low 1.70s) Unless the track is for shit, they always hook. Going out there 2-3 times a month I could get a full two seasons out of them. After 20 years, Im trying to talk myself into some type of drag radial,..,..hoosier, MT, but I hate to part with something that I know works. Bias plies hook no matter what the temperature is. THey're not fussy like radials and like the guy in the video says, they are stable in the top end. 16-18 lbs works fine for me. So many different opinions out there that I dont know what to believe regarding ET street bias plies vs drag radials. I drive these to the track (35 miles) have been caught in the rain and they really dont handle much different than the street radials. (car is a 86 cutlass) I also run the 215/50/15 BF goodrich radial up front with the bias plies in the back, handles just fine. Probably made over 800 runs down the track with this combo.

    The rolling resistance part i keep hearing people say is a half truth at best. Because a bias ply counts on rpm's producing centrifical force. That straightens out the side walls keeping the tire round. It only has only more rolling resistance at low rpm's.
    BTW: yes I know centifical, centrifugal, and centripetal force are not actual forces, but illusions of force caused by gyroscopic effects. Also that centrifical it self is not even considered a word in the dictionary.

    Outstanding you did your homework. Sway is more in over 28" tires at low tire pressure. Right on, the wild shift steering sway. Also panicking with a little sway turn into trouble. With big aka tall tires when you let off can be it's on adventure at 140+ mph. My car throws in a Max up grade IRS 78 Corvette with stroker big block, dual stage3 NOS and 66 yrs old! Sway lol I was thinking that's normal at my age and fun. Great video young man with some real wisdom!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😇😇😇

      They are not made to be driven on the street. A bias ply tire will shake with groves/imperfections in the road and wear VERY quickly and unevenly.
      These are made solely for the track... so drive there on the street tires, and swap them in the pit area before you start making passes... when its time to leave swap back to your street tires.

    You have an example of "one". 1 car with 1 tire, thats it. Try running several different suspension types and tires then get back to us. Those tires you have are TINY. When you get into much larger side walls and especially very low pressures, where you really get the side walls to, "wrinkle" then you will see the difference. Your car is no where near the tire size or power level for you to understand...

    I have a skinny up front with ET street r bias ply out back and the sway on the street is for real. I agree with you 100% about hand position. Anyway… I’m a stick car, and I actually prefer ET Street SS on the car even with 900/750. Just grips better on the street than the bias ply In my opinion.

  • @cfm17hellcat11
    @cfm17hellcat11 5 лет назад +1

    20 psi is a big reason you didn’t see sidewall flex. But if it works for you that’s great. I can’t imagine at that pressure you were taking advantage of the potential shock reduction provided by a bias ply tire mounted on a manual trans car. I’m concerned with your radials on the front and bias ply rears. M/T strongly discourages that practice. Relax in the car. Take your small twitch muscles out of the equation to avoid the shift jerk your concerned with. However, if your happy with the results that is all that matters. Remember to use a fabric tape measure to compare circumference on each tire from time to time!
    Check circumference inflated to 30psi.

  • @mikeeagle2653
    @mikeeagle2653 6 лет назад +4

    You should put 8lbs in those tires and after your burn out the temp will raise the air pressure to 10-11lbs
    Two reasons you didn’t have mush “sway” you ran to much air in them so if you put in 20lbs to start after your burn out the pressure
    Would raise 2-3 psi. Due to heating of the air inside the tire.
    Second reason is those are 17” wheels an fairly small diameter tires with less side wall then guys to talk about sway on the top end

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 лет назад +3

      When he's not running any power to the wheels, it won't matter. Always stop lowering pressure when you get 100% bite. Lowering it past that, will just increase rolling resistance.

    Alright maybe I'm confused - but you say that you're running 26x11.5x17 Mickey Thompson ET Street Bias tires? Mickey Thompson does not list that size in the BIAS ET Street on their own website. The MT ET Street R lists that size - but it's a radial.

    radial front tyres are more direct so if you do get a back end sway you have more chances of steering out from the wall thats with radials on the back also if you have bias ply tyres on the back and radials on the front any type of flex in the bias ply tyre at the rear you will arse end the car into thewall its a fact.what you said is not correct

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 лет назад

      Sean MgGuigan
      Get those anchors off it up front. Those stock rims are heavy as hell and those tires are too. When going to a dot approved non-slick drag tire in the rear like you have, whether it being a bias ply or radial, the right fronts can give you almost as big of an advantage. If you stick a set of M&H Racemaster Muscle Car Drag fronts in 26x4.50-17 up front, you'll shave at least a quater off your time. It will also make your car be more controllable on the highway. Running wide radials with bias ply tires in the back, is always a recipe for an unstable car when cruising. However, it goes without saying that running the skinnies will of course reduce your steering response and breaking abilities.

    How many PSI you running in those 44psi at the track you should be running them between 6-10psi, the skinny front isn’t to get rid of the sway it’s to get better RT’s and the psi on the fronts should be 42-45psi

    Boy you must be a poor driver. If you grip the wheel that hard and can't keep it steady you must no have much experience. Your instructions aren't online because they are foolish. Of course if you're only going 100 you are either a slower car or running eights.
