It's all in the size. You put 15" Mickey's that were bouncing all over (wheel hop) because your suspension can't handle the power. Try that with 18"-20" Mickey's. Your comparing apples & oranges.
We had been trying to find tires that will hook with a 700whp/800wtq twin turbo vette, tried NT05R ran that for a few years and they were ok but spun a lot, tried MT S/S similar experience to yours, then the Toyo R888R we just put on and it is a completely different level of grip. FINALLY the car it is supposed to be. Pricey but its 100% worth it for the unbelievable traction. Will now be using this for every high HP application we have. Definitely recommend anyone with high HP build trying these out. Thx for the video.
And how's it going? I've been watching your videos and I'm trying to make a decision right now between a Whipple supercharger and a VMP. I've seen your videos I was just like your personal opinion and experience if you don't mind?
I work for a Mickey Thompson distributor. The et street ss is a street tire that has good enough properties to compete at the strip for the novice. You the toyo is made for the track and not legal for street. The results were no surprise. Mickey ET street R would be a better comparison but still street legal
JD- I remember speaking to a Mickey Thompson rep when I ran ET street radials on my stick car, he said you only need to do a small burnout and just scuff the tires, the burnout in the video was wayyy to much and would have caused the tires to be over heated and greasy. If the tires are old and heat tempered they will require a longer burnout to be sticky but he said thats the point to toss them.

My experience between nittos and mickeys are night and day. Nittos out the box, no spin. 100 miles later, they started spinning in 1st gear pulls. More miles, the worse it gets. Around 1k miles, 2nd became useless. Mickeys, over 3k miles and exactly the same as day one. Just a sec of spin the top of first at about 6200. Never heated the tires other then normal driving. The mickeys just seem more violent but i do not trust them in a turn due to lack of sidewall sizes. My cousin has an 03 cobra. Tried many tires and sizes to get all 600 down with an 11 inch ccw. A 315 toyo, allows 2nd gear to hook. We've been through many tires between us both. Recommend toyo over all others anyday for the street.
Yeah I ran a set on some 15s before. Never thought they were bad but I did run them once after the car was boosted and they were okay but I broke them free relatively easy in first gear. 2nd they started to hook. They still had half tread at that point in time too.
I think you should start thinking about putting in a roll bar or roll cage in your Mustang it is getting pretty quick being safe should be your number one concern and then being fast the cage would keep you safe and would help stiffen up the body God forbid you got into a car accident the cage would increase your chances of walking away.
@@Motherofmusic are you serious? Think about your head smacking a steel tube in a crash with no helmet on. You absolutely need padding anywhere your head may come into contact with the cage. It will help in ways and hurt in others especially if you're not wearing a helmet, properly strapped in etc.
Nitto is made by Toyo, Toyo is japan and Nitto is essentially Toyo America. The 555R would be more comparable to the R888, where as the NT05 or NT01 would be closer to the R888R.

I believe nt555r & r888r are close if not the same rubber composition, with different sidewall structure. The 8's are a road course tire of course and work really well on the street. I've run both also, currently the 5r
Nitto is a sister company of toyo. I have been selling toyos for years now, cracks me up when people say they hate toyo but love the nitto tire. Then I tell them they are basically the same. Funny to watch there reaction.
I recently swapped out my MT ET street ss 305's for the r888r. For normal and wet weather the r888r is excellent. But unfortunately I can't launch at all without spinning like a stripper on a greased up pole.
@@maximusvonce1381 I agree even on my crx my Mt et St will grip and rip. My r888r are my daily wheel I can play with for road course and roll. For digs and strip it's the Et St all day

The new 28x10.5 Hoosier bracket drag radials are where its at. They are as good as the new Mickey Thompson drag radials, but the sidewalls are a lil softer.

@@ddn79 that wasn't one of the choices, ET Street Rs are not tires you drive on the street consistently. If you don't mind the tread rating the R888s are daily drivable.

@@maximusvonce1381 definitely not. Your suspension setup might have contributed it. The r888s are better tires cold or warm IMO. Maybe you're used to having to do a burnout to get the tires sticky and overheated the Toyos. Lot of people are using them daily, even on 1800whp cars. I drove r888s in the rain no problem (you can probably do the same with ET Streets), it's always the idiots who can't drive that say "oh if it rains you're going to crash" haha.
I own 2012 VMP Gen3 GT500 800HP+, 2017 Hellion Twin Turbo GT350, I tried them all, the best tires so far The Nitto's NT05R. 888's are not so bad either however they wear much faster.
JD I have the same Toyo tires on a 510 whp GTO, yes that isn’t much compared your Gt500 lol but the Toyos are way better than anything else we have tried
I wish instead of you saying THEY hook well you would actually say the tires name. I have no clue while driving which tire you are talking about. It or They does not work well for describing..
IMO the Toyos actually have less traction at the 20psi you ran all these tires in this test. The sidewalls are stiff like a runflat and at 20psi they start to cup the center of the contact patch. 30-32psi keeps the contact patch the widest and flattest. You also dont need a burnout to get autocross tires up to temp either just a steady 10min drive
Ignore this video for Foxbodys. Much lighter in the rear end. Mickey Thompson works best for lighter rear ends. Foxbodys are in a class of their own. Rear end gear makes a big factor in selection.
This is a great video for fellow enthusiasts to find good tires. , I have been running Toyo T1 Proxes Sports on my C5 Corvette for 2 years and I am amazed with the traction that still Remains. My Toyotas have 20,000 miles on them and they still have good tread and lots of traction. I personally like the Toyota T1 Proxes sport better than the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
I had toyo t1 and swapped to R888R-s, it is day and night. Much better traction with the latter, more pricey of course but wear is not an issue because it is on a lightweight hobby car. I wouldn't recommend R888R-s on heavier cars especially if you don't run it on track and if you don't have serious horsepower.

I knpw what they are, but you don't want to go over 180 on them for extended periods of time like on the highway@@vhp454
You don't want to drive around on bias tires, not fun!
The heck, I thought Jarred Goff was walking up to the camera when I first so him lmao good video!
LOL he DO look like jared goff! LOL
Don't know about the tires just love watching and listening you go thru those gears !!!
The mickey Thompsons work great at the track but i cant get them to hook on the street either
Mike Norton yeah I think that’s where they might put shine the others.
This was a surprise haha but I really like the way you put this all together! Glad I could help spread some useful information!
Yeah I ran a set on some 15s before. Never thought they were bad but I did run them once after the car was boosted and they were okay but I broke them free relatively easy in first gear. 2nd they started to hook. They still had half tread at that point in time too.
M/T recommend DR psi is between 14 to 9 psi to have the full traction I being drag racing for 35 year and that's what work for me,
I think you should start thinking about putting in a roll bar or roll cage in your Mustang it is getting pretty quick being safe should be your number one concern and then being fast the cage would keep you safe and would help stiffen up the body God forbid you got into a car accident the cage would increase your chances of walking away.
James Fox I need a cage bad...that’s in the plans.
That's good to hear
James Fox an accident with a cage and no helmet on is a scary thought. Cages are not meant for street driven vehicles.
@@jdubcbr600 is this a serious comment? A cage will help help protect you helmet or not, period.....
@@Motherofmusic are you serious? Think about your head smacking a steel tube in a crash with no helmet on. You absolutely need padding anywhere your head may come into contact with the cage. It will help in ways and hurt in others especially if you're not wearing a helmet, properly strapped in etc.
I don't understand. Every shop around here selling drag radials is saying Mickey Thompsons beat Nittos hands down.
Hell yeah thank you for this video !
My 03 makes 720 and good info to know !
I love the camera on front of car shows how fast the car was moving.....
Put the M/T at 10psi and you see the different also you over heat the M/T with that burn out J/F ,👍
its a radial not a slick, you don't go that low in psi on a DR...
I'm a ls guy but this channel is keeping it real!!
Nitto is made by Toyo, Toyo is japan and Nitto is essentially Toyo America. The 555R would be more comparable to the R888, where as the NT05 or NT01 would be closer to the R888R.
So, which is better for street hooning... NOT5R or R888R?
Bhajan Singh they would be very similar in compound, but I would go for the Nitto as they will be cheaper.
I look forward to your videos man just a bunch of chill people and a bad ass Shelby
nycthreye So glad you enjoy the Vlogs.
5:23 when Mustang drivers see a crowd 😭😭
650 rwhp, 508 ft. pounds of torque. 3.73 gear. Replaced my 555G2 with Nitto NT05. Major improvement! Staggered 305/30/20 R, 275/35/20 F. Hooks in 3rd solid. 2nd gear still a little spinning
Get a micky et street radicals. You’ll have no problem not the same bull crap. 700hp Honda Civic FWD HOOKS very well with those lol r888’s spin. I hate r888’s got maybe 5000 miles out of them from spinning.
My car came with new BF Goodtich G-force Rivals, so I put them to good use, but I just ordered the R888R's. Stoked to see how they hold up.
I always felt the 888's were better than 555's
I run r888 up in the California canyons it’s superior 👍🏽
@@guitaristwagner Both are good when new but i think the 555r weighs a little less and def works better on the drag strip
I’m a Chevy guy through n through but absolutely love that rip and whine you had going.
I recently swapped out my MT ET street ss 305's for the r888r. For normal and wet weather the r888r is excellent. But unfortunately I can't launch at all without spinning like a stripper on a greased up pole.
R888 are garbage for dig racing.
@@maximusvonce1381 I agree even on my crx my Mt et St will grip and rip. My r888r are my daily wheel I can play with for road course and roll. For digs and strip it's the Et St all day
Now that's having fun.. let's keep in mind that this test was for street use . Good comparison overall. That 2nd Stang sounds sick
Great video - I could be wrong but aren't those MT's brand new? They usually require a little break in, on top of that burn out being pretty damn long. I've watched those tires run on 1000 HP cars and hold up pretty well. Also have you tried the E/T Street R's?
I know I'm late to the party but this video convinced me to try a set of toyo R888R tires on my car, I ordered the tires and subscribed to your channel same day I'll update you on the test drive.
I like this type of tests. Thanks a lot. Great content.
Hands down no contest, Mickey ET Street SS tire. Best daily driver caught in rain drag radial you can buy. I run em on my 600 wheel pump gas daily driver 2011 tvs 5.0. Nittos are useless over 450wheel. They go fast though. Middle tread gone at 2k miles. I keep em at 26psi for daily driver.
I’m running 650whp on nittos with over 2500 miles on them. Tread still has plenty left and I hook even in first gear
@@cflgt500 Try ET STREET SS TIRES. Best drag radials on the market. Wont last past 5k miles though, unless you drive like granny...lol
@@cflgt500 My car makes 800wheel now and still daily with mickeys.

You guys sound so lame. How embarrassing lol.
Nitto nt05r is where it’s at man!
What's goin' on, JD? This video was a little different, but very cool as always. Nothing like some real world testing and the results speak for themselves. Brian's car sounds good too, but I love that Shelby.👍😎 I recently went for a ride in a good friend's 2010 GT500 (784whp) and that shit feels good!💪 He did a few quick pulls and couldn't stay in it long, but I got a dose of what that power level is like. BTW, I read where you mentioned that you've been slacking a bit lately. It's really none of my business, but I will say this... you know I'm a big fan, but as long as you're spending that time with your family, that's not slacking. No shame in that whatsoever, JD!👍 Keep doin' what you do, brother! Hope y'all have a great weekend!✌
TheMick26 that’s awesome you got to ride in your buddy’s GT500. Same power level as mine on 93oct...what TQ?
And yes I’ve been spending more time with the fam.
@@JD_JoyrideTV Hey JD. He's selling everything to move out west and take up the RV lifestyle. What is it with GT500s and RVs?😉 He wanted to re-dyno the car before selling it to verify his tune. I took him to pick it up 2 weeks ago and we went for a ride. I will try to find out the particulars on his setup. Pretty sure it's a 3.6 Kenne Bell. I don't believe it was on 93 (I'll verify), but I think it was a mix of 93 and 110. I'll try to check. It'll be up for sale very soon though. Have a nice weekend, bud.
@@JD_JoyrideTV Was the Toyo R888R tire size 305/35r20? Do you have 20×11 wheels?
JD JoyrideTV those micks were bald. How about you use new ones
If the 93 and the 110 octane were mixed in equal parts, that would be 101.5 octane..

Another great video JD I wouldn't have thought the toyo would have been that good
sam constantino same here.
I just bought the 555r extreme drag. They dead hook on the street. I’ll test them on the track Saturday...Maple Grove...RUclips callout...BE THERE!
370H55V O773H well how did they do?
@@slomango7927 hooked really hard on the track. The track was tight that day too. But I actually destroyed my differential from it hooking so hard.

Always a good time watching your videos. Thanks keep them coming
9:28.. oh gods be praised.. that sweet sound made my day!! Loved the video!!!
The new 28x10.5 Hoosier bracket drag radials are where its at. They are as good as the new Mickey Thompson drag radials, but the sidewalls are a lil softer.
I prefer Mickey PBRs…but for absolute MAX traction from a dig on a less than stellar surface, the Hoosier 28X10 D06s are the KING👌🏼
The R888s are superior, PERIOD. They're being used on 2200whp cars, they can handle the 800 of a mustang lol.
disinferno06
Yep
And yet RbW cars run on ET Street Rs and can put down 5K hp to the ground on 2 tires. I know it's slightly a different tire, but a drag radial done right will out hook any of the road race tires anyday.
@@ddn79 that wasn't one of the choices, ET Street Rs are not tires you drive on the street consistently. If you don't mind the tread rating the R888s are daily drivable.
R888's are a joke. I ran those before switching to et street ss. Mickeys blow em away for dig racing. Not even close. ET street ss hands down best daily driver drag radial you can buy. Only ones i run in my 600wheel pump gas daily 11 tvs 5.0 and my 10sec all motor street car 68 Mustang. Plus you can drive et street ss in rain if necessary. They go real quick though...lol
Thanks for sharing your testing and opinion! Great video!!!
Would love to see you do a drag strip track test
You would have to build a Texas Roadhouse on it to get him there.
😂😂✌️
My 2015 GT 727 hooks great with the Nitto nt555r`s and about $300 cheaper than the Toyo`s. Best street tire for the money so far.
Guy looks like Jared Goff
I own 2012 VMP Gen3 GT500 800HP+, 2017 Hellion Twin Turbo GT350, I tried them all, the best tires so far The Nitto's NT05R. 888's are not so bad either however they wear much faster.
You should try M&H racemasters drag radials. Amazing tires hooks on my 800whp gtr
Ryan j dude that’s nasty, I’d love to ride in your GTR
JD I have the same Toyo tires on a 510 whp GTO, yes that isn’t much compared your Gt500 lol but the Toyos are way better than anything else we have tried
Nice vid, but at least test some Mickeys with some tread on them that arent wore out.
Leonard Riddick I got the Mickeys new and traction hasn’t changed...I’ve never been able to get them to hook 2nd gear ever.
That’s dope man. Thanks for the review
MTs dont hook on asphalt. U need to test them on concrete or at the track
I love my 555r! I am pushing 870hp and 890tq on a 2.8l blower, if I hit it hard it will spin alittle but it still moves out.
What size tires did you test
It amazing that those are the three tires im looking at rn thanks for the tests

Great video man! I am running the nt555's now, car spins 1st and 2nd. i will definitely be buying some toyos this week!
the 555Rs are wayyy better
@@DAVIDISEPIC1111 No no they are not, I've tried them, Supercars, and R888Rs and Toyos are best of em.
I wish instead of you saying THEY hook well you would actually say the tires name. I have no clue while driving which tire you are talking about. It or They does not work well for describing..
bOOSTEDjOSH sorry about that. I mentioned in between each tire. I should have kept the tire subtitled name on the screen for each tire.
I agree boosted Josh.... Had trouble figuring out what fucking tire he was yappin about
IMO the Toyos actually have less traction at the 20psi you ran all these tires in this test. The sidewalls are stiff like a runflat and at 20psi they start to cup the center of the contact patch. 30-32psi keeps the contact patch the widest and flattest. You also dont need a burnout to get autocross tires up to temp either just a steady 10min drive
Accurate, same experience with the R888R being their best around 32psi.
Once my car was making over 750whp. The MT Street ET SS tires didn't hook at all.
I have to use MT Street ET R's
I've come to the conclusion that my tires must be the shittiest tires of all time. I can spin all of first and second and I don't even have 300whp
Ha,ha,ha slippery bananas!🤪
R888R for the WIN
I always have been a big fan Mickey Thompson, now, NITTO & TOYO Thanks 🙏
I’m glad the nittos hook! I haven’t gotten my foxbody finished yet but that’s what I have on it! Can’t wait for spring 😀
M&H Racemasters. Try those.
