Music keeps us happy, as we were found to be happiest people on Earth according to some survey. "Fact" that I was a little bit surprised I have to say. 🤣
Wow! Thanks for reviewing one of my most favorite songs! This song is a masterpiece of lyrical content as well as its musical score and vocals. And, IMHO, his growls are some of the best out there - deeply resonant and full of power.
Yeah, he's like everything you (or a woman) could wish for, in same package: beautiful singing Voice, so deep growls they go Straight through you & your soul, humble and down to earth persona (what i heard from people who somewhat know him) & well.. a man doesn't get more handsome than that 😍 🤘♥️
So glad Sistah enjoyed this one! The whole Queen of Time album is amazing. As you also like Nightwish, maybe you can check out (though probably you have, as this reaction was recorded half a year ago) Amongst Stars from the same album, with guest Anneke van Ginsberg, you'll hear some beautiful female vocals against Tomi's growls 😊. And the music video is quite cool. Take care!
Esa Holopainen is Amorphis' main songwriter but he's not related to Tuomas Holopainen. Still amazing they share the same last name. I've been Amorphis fan since the beginning, and really loved Pasi's unique voice but Tomi Joutsen is one of the most talented metal singers out there at the moment and the albums with him are pretty much all brilliant. 🤘🍻
I recommend Amorphis: From the Heaven of my Heart. Silent Waters, You I need, Amongst the Stars, or some really old stuff from their older singer the song Alone.
I've been a fan of Amorphis since the 90's, and you pretty much nailed your description of their multiple styles. I love the Tomi Joutsen era, and I think he injected some much needed energy into their sound. I've loved just about everything since the Eclipse album (first one with Tomi on vocals). Circle is the only album I don't really care for, but even that one has a few songs that will make it on to my playlist.
Greeting from Finland! Seems that you have good time ahead! ;)=== I wasn’t huge fan of Amorphis before album Eclipse. The new singer Tomi Juotsen bring so much of new energy to band. After that I am been huge fan. I specially like songs called “House of sleep” and “Perkele(the god of fire)” from Eclipse album and “ From the heaven of my heart” from skyforger album.
One of my all-time favourite bands...they have never made a bad album IMO. Great song, great album...I can't say "great" enough about this band and their music. Cheers! PS...for a suggestion, pick any song from any album lol! They are THAT good (mind you the first album is pure death metal with no clean singing). Cheers (again)!
Thank you guys! A pleasant surprise to note your reacting to this. This studio version is stunning, but I was impressed with their 2018 Wacken gig recording of the same song. In it, Tomi’s stunning sound formation came into its own.
I've always wanted to like Amorphis but a long time I didn't get there. I found a nice album (Magic and Mayhem, 2010) with re-recorded songs mainly from Tales of the Thousand Lakes but after that legendary album it's been a bit dull for me. One day I heard The Bee and my jaw dropped. Cold shivers hit all my body in the part "They build their castles...". Total eargasm! I checked the rest of the album and damn what a plate it is! Daughter of Hate, Heart of a Giant, We Accursed... Amazing stuff. I guess I like their bigger almost symphonic sound in this album and less those radio friendly boring songs. I got known better also to the previous album Under the Red Cloud and great album as well! I really love Tomi's growls that I consider the best in the world even topping Mikael Åkerfeld (Opeth) and Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth). He has so much power from the deep and still every word is clear. He can pull the same authority on the stage too!
I enjoy listening these songs with you two. Gives me goosebumps, both the music and your reactions!! I dont have money to "patreon" you but still follow this youtube -channel!! Thank you for many many insights!! Toni from Finland!!
Awesome reaction and analysis guys...thanks for the knowledge towards the song 👍love to see people enjoying this Masterpiece from vocals to musicianship..♥️🖤♥️ be safe and keep healthy 🧡
30 years of Amorphis. I attended the anniversary gigs 3 nights in a row at Tavastia Club in Helsinki. October 14th, 15th and 16th. They covered one particular decade each night. And they played two identical gigs each night. I attended the latter one each night. The 1st gig covered the years 2010-2019, the 2nd years 2000-2009, the 3rd years 1990-1999. The 1st gig ended with "The Bee", and the song before that was "Death of a King", one of my favorites (Official Video). I also liked "Bad Blood" with lots of clean vocals. The last name of the vocalist (Joutsen) is the Finnish for Swan. I got a little worried about Tomi's vocals on the opening song the 1st night, but his throat warmed up soon. I was impressed how good they sound live. How did you find Aleksi to help you with the Finnish pronunciation?

That's the intro to this song for me. As Wolf so succinctly puts it, "instant goosebumps"
Next song should be Amongst Stars! 💫 It's a collaboration with Dutch singer Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Ayreon) and it's an awesome mix of styles. Epic! 🥰🤘🏼
Oh, wow...you've got 7 albums worth of catching up to do. I can't wait to see your faces when you hear songs from the Skyforger album. this is great channel, when kai hahto likes too that tell everything :) wow i dont know you are amorphis long time listener, very cool. yeah there is so much gems this band music. thanx to this great react like always and have great day there.
Found a band earlier this year that kicked my ass, Swedish atmospheric death metal. Band is called Blidvinter. Joakim Lundback is the lone member, but hired Moonspell drummer Hugo Rubeiro for the session drumming. Absolutely fantastic record!! If you would like to hear what it sounds like: blidvinter.bandcamp.com/album/petrichor
You really need to listen a song called Sentenced - Mourn!!! Thats Miika Tenkulas great guitar song without any lyrics, just beautiful guitar work. :) If that song wont make Sistah cry, nothing will, its super sad but also super awesome! Love from Finland :)
Hearth of the Giant and The Bee are two of my favs from this album. Funny thing is that I've been listening The Queen of Time the whole last week and now I see this reaction :D Kudos.
YEAHHHHHHH!!!! Finally, our dreams were fulfilled and Amorphis is between us (just like Tomi said in the brazilian tour). Really happy to see Sistah enjoying them as mych as I do. They are my favorite band, and a big part of why I love metal. About the symphonic part mentioned, the Queen of Time album features the orchestra that works for Orphaned Land (you might know them Wolf), so it has proeminent use of strings and other symphonic elements, all harmonizing perfectly with the bands melodies. It even has a saxophone solo in Daughter of Hate, and a cytar solo (performed by a member of israeli power metal band Ostura) in The Golden Elk. Wolf forgot to metion, but current bassist Olli-Pekka Laine (who replaced longtime member Niclas Etelavuöri) is also a founding member of Amorphis, alongside Jan, Koivusari and Esa. They started as a four piece with Tomi K as lead singer, but after the Elegy album he deciced do step down and just be rythm guitarrist (but sometimes he still sing in the concerts. In the brazilian tour, he sang the first verse of Against Widows on th concert I attended). I have to disagree a little about Tomi Joutsen and Pasi Koskinen having similarities. Tomi voice has a better sound, and he can reach some notes Pasi couldn't. The style they use might trigger some thoughts of similarity, but I don't follow on that. And Wolf, my man, you're in for a ride, since you skipped all of the Tomi Joutsen era. You'll have a lot of monumental tracks to listen, like Silent Waters (my favorite), Into the Abyss, Silver Bride, Song of the Sage, Mermaid, Death of a King, White Night (Sistah will definitely cry when she hears this one), Wrong Direction, House of Sleep, Enigma, The Smoke, Nightbird's Song, Tree of Ages, and a lot more. PS: sorry for the long ass text, but I waited really long for this moment. Thank You and Sistah for bringing the video up, and the dud from Patreon who made this possible. I told you my time would come, and it finally came. :)
The power of Amorphis should not be underestimated. Their last 3 albums have been nothing less than stellar. They have found something magical in their writing style that works so well. Great review.
I weirdly love how stoic and unfazed Wolf looks while Sistah is freaking out right next to him. Then I worry "oh no, he doesn't like it, oh no" - and then he does regardless. Gets me every time.
Well I am of those fans digging backwards through AMORPHIS' catalogue, and I must say to these ears so far, Tomi Joutsen, Tom the Swan, is the best combination of growler+clean singer that ever existed. HIs growls are so rich, all-encompassing, majestic - and still clear! - that he alone usually manages to get my blood (and both fists) pumping. I am not usually the greatest fan (nor expert) of growls, and try to look PAST them while savoring the music. With AMORPHIS, I usually WAIT for him to kick in. And those epic, somewhat wistful cleans just add to the magic, as portrayed in this song. The other members of the group are such experts at combining that vocal storm with great and unusual soundscapes, that one never can form opinion of them too early - they will go from soft rock (and even jazzy stuff, yes) to epic world-shattering Death metal in AMON AMARTH's territory like it was nothing, with plenty of Prog in between. AMORPHIS it truly is. "The Bee" with its mesmerizing rhythms and builds, and almighty Tomi all over it, is an awesome introduction, a single picked exactly right. Not to mention crowds will be headbanging forever to probably the first Metal song in history dedicated to an insect. :)) That is the power of mythology, love of nature, love of life, and heaps of talent! I salute AMORPHIS, and you guys for coming around to them. Spread the word!
Hi, lovely couple! The first time I've heard Amorphis was about 20 years ago with the Light My Fire cover from The Doors, and frankly, didn't liked it. Now, about a couple of days I was working listening songs here with the autoplay on, and this came, and... my mind was blown! What a song, what an album! Now I just need to know Amorphis whole discography for the past 20 years to compensate all the wasted time!
🇺🇸🤘🙂🇫🇮👍 Amophis sure has changed their music style from album to album... Anneke has made some appearances on their songs and also on stage 😊. On similar lines, if you want to hear more Finnish dudes growling style singing, try e.g. Wolfheart's "Routa pt. 2" or "Flood" 🤗
Saw them Live this year with Dimmu Borgir. I'm a more causal fan of the latter but hearing they would play in UK I had to go. Didn't know Amorphis at all. Checked their stuff out like... A day before the gig which got me even more excited & the show was AMAZING
Other songs you should check out are: Bad Blood, Under the Red Cloud, Come the Spring, Amongst Stars, Honeyflow.. well actually anything from the latest 3 albums from Amorphis are pure gold. personally im not a big fan of their older singer, but Tomi is out of this world. Anyways, great reaction \m/
Am Universum is the second last album with singer Pasi Koskinen. Koskinen never sang harsh vocals, only clean ones. There was another singer for harsh vocals at that time. New and current singer Tomi Joutsen does all the singing after album Far from the sun.
Oh, the bee is one of my favorites, preferably live (Amorphis just are soooo good live!) Thanks for your reaction, I loved every bit and learned a lot again! I should be going to Amorphis as support for nightwish next month. Due to Covid the concert has been rescheduled for May next year... but I am so ready for that. You two just fixed my cold turkey quite good. I allways feel so understood and comfy, if somebody else, who is new to the music I love, also has a good experience with it. It makes me happy, to put it simply. I saw Amorphis 5 or 6 times during my days so far and they never dissaapionted. May I suggest two very different song: wrong direction and my kantele? And, yes of course the classics like silent water, alone, house of sleep, silver bride... go ahead and react to the whole tales from the thousand lakes, I would watch and enjoy it 🥰😍😇 Lots of love to you two lovelies!
Hello from Finland 👋🏼 yes they are amazing!! Just saw them live. Super ! Thanks for this video🤘🏼 Tomi Joutsen (Joutsen means a swan btw) is a great singer
Depending on my mood i listen to music the same way as they both individually do haha Eluveitie, Rhapsody of Fire, Amorphis, and the Hu are my favorite metal bands right now by far. I saw the Hu and Amorphis live last yr and they were both SOOOOO good live.
I'm sure Esa and Tuomas Holopainen are related at some 'amount of removed'. Tuomas is from Kitee eastern Finland (Kitee is bordering Russia),and family names in Eastern Finland are 100s if not 1000s of years old. Western Finland had earlier a lot of Swedish names, and the Finnish names had not real family names, but people were known by their own name, father's name and then the by the name of the house they lived in. In the country side every house was named. So the last name could change many times during a person's life time, depending how often the family moved. WolfKain, you say the Finnish names very well already. The sound values of the letters are almost the same as in Czech. Every letter is always pronounced,, and has the same value in any place in a word, if they are not recent loans from English. So in these names Joutsen ('Swan') - the o as in sport, i as in pull: so it's said like soul. The e is like the e in Ben (in any place). And J is as the Y in yes. So his name sounds like 'Yo-tsen' or 'Yote-sen'. Finnish marks long sounds (vowel or consonant) by doubling the letter. So Czech writes á, Finnish aa for a long vowel, as the a in fAther (faad(h)ör would be closest Finnish spelling for that). Mother would be spelled 'mad(h)ör'. The ö is not exactly like the English neutral vowel in bird, church, her etc. - but it will do. If you don't know German or French: ö is like the German ö or French spell it eu, Finnish y is like the German ü, and French spells it u. The Finnish ä is like the English a in Action (if not said like 'ection'). The Finnish words are stressed in the beginning ('BEginning' :) - always. Finnish would likely spell the English word as 2 words: 'bi gining' if not yet learned English. Longer than 3 syllable words get a secondary stress, they come on every second syllable, some endings want it just before the last syllable (in words longer than 3 syllables). So here the band member names still not mentioned: Holopainen is like HOlo-Painen, Koivusaari as KOIvu-Saari (this second a compound - 'Birch Island'). And Koskinen as 'COS-ki-nen' (Rapidsley, Rapidsy, maybe the closest rendition).
@@WolfKain Haha! 😂👌😆 Hopefully my condition doesn't develop that far! 😶 Just since you mentioned about the pronunciation of Finnish. And I remembered you have a Czech background, so it helps a lot. Now this grammatic vaccination should be efficient enough :) I don't want you to get the language disease itself. In my case it's self inflicted. But you should still be safe and sound!
As a Finn I love my languge sooo much, but, dear Sir, You have outdone by far anything on any comment at any reaction there is! Well done.. second You on everything there! Kiitos analyysistä! Oli helvetin osuva! :)
@@jhcycling3098 Studied Finnish as my major in the university, and took basic courses of many languages at the time, and took general linguistic courses. Sometimes it spills over here on RUclips :) Especially in a company who show some interest. I'm sure Kotus (Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus) has some interesting articles at their pages, if you want to deepen your knowlegde of your mother tongue, and then some :) I hope the insitute still has that name - few years when I cheched. They have the archives of collected dialect material - could be even Lönnrot's material, but at kleast the later stull since the end of the 19th century (18oo-luku)
Awesome reaction to awesome band and song, sistah was flying all over the place and she should. Lemme guess? She loves crowling voice? If so, then react to Amongst the Stars by Amorphis, thats kick arse song with Anneke :)
My first ever gig was in 1995 I think, LIDO in Leuven. Sentenced, Amorphis (Tales...) and Tiamat (Wildhoney). It was both good and bad. Good because... what could top that? And bad because, what could ever top that? I still think about it often.
I love you two. Wolf sits there completely focused on the music giving nothing away as to his thoughts. Sistah the opposite, can barely contain her excitement.
Your comment on black metal reminded me of their singer Tomi Joutsen's side project Hallatar, with Swallow the Sun's Juha Raivio and Gas Lipstick of HIM. As you're an Amorphis fan, you probably came across their album "No Stars Upon The Bridge", but if not, check them out. It's more in the death-doom genre, but Tomi's versatility really shines on that album with him doing his usual beautiful cleans but also black metal and death metal vocals on the same song. There's a few music videos on RUclips, should be easy to find. Edited to add: I just realised that you don't even know Tomi yet if you missed 7 albums. Also, because of this I found myself getting a bit anxious when Wolf went all scrunchy-face, because I love the current incarnation of Amorphis, whereas he didn't know them yet and it gave the impression of him not liking it that much. ;-) Edit 2: Two quick suggestions from their two most recent albums, I personally love "Dark Path" (ruclips.net/video/B4gbgucV0cg/видео.html) and Daughter of Hate (ruclips.net/video/yXsmR_cvCxg/видео.html).
This was simple: I see you reacting Amorphis, I give thumbs immediately
There's something in the water of Northern Europe.
nope. its just clean ;)
Yep, a lot of heavy metals :))), the most clean water in the world
Yup, our water is veeeery clean & tasty :) Might explain everything
its called vodka.
Bees aren’t just sacred to the Finns. They’re connected to death and resurrection across many pagan cultures. It’s why we put flowers on graves.
Warmth and flowers, short moment of joyful photosynthesis. Death of the world just months away to be woken again
Oh, really? 😯❤
I love Amorphis, go for Amongst Stars with Anneke van Giersbergen too! :)
That's an ultimate piece of music.
I would LOVE to hear that!!
Anneke was in this one too.
"Amongst Stars" is a sweet taste of honey on the tongue. A song that I can't help putting on repeat.
They should be in Kuopio Rock 2021 29-31 July , Amorphis , Amaranthe and Nigthwish , too ... but lets see how the year goes .
Tomi's voice is Life Itself.
From the most darkest country in the world keeps coming more & more epic music :)

Don't forget Amorphis classic Silent Waters if you dive deeper to Amorphis music
Silent Waters (song) is even about the same story from the perspective of Lemminkäinen's mother, and whole album is about Lemminkäinen.

Totally awesome album! Queen of Time is equally excellent IMO. Cheers!
Absolutely!
Yes definitely! It is actually my favorite album from Amorphis, there is no bad song in it I think.
Under the Red Cloud and Queen of Time are just perfect albums imo. Love this band! Should react to all their songs really =p
It was actually Esa's guitar not synth on the chorus and intro. awesome reaction! Greetings from finland
Finally you reacted to this!
I hope you enjoy!
@@HalfLifeSistah Yes indeed! I always love to watch your reaction videos especially when you react to finnish music! 😘

Black winter day, the song that will always remember me that Amorphis made me a metal head
Everything in the Joutsen Era is a banger, quite honestly.

I looove this song and the whole album, how she reacts is how I feel inside when I hear it I wish I could express my feelings so freely!!! 💜
Fan of the first minute! 30 years ago! Epic sound anyway! Suomi!Forever!
I weirdly love how stoic and unfazed Wolf looks while Sistah is freaking out right next to him. Then I worry "oh no, he doesn't like it, oh no" - and then he does regardless. Gets me every time.
The previous singer you're referring to is Pasi Koskinen who also is in the Funeral Doom band Shape Of Despair
You should listen more from Amorphis ... This is an awesome finnish band! 🖤
Looked up to my screen and saw Thor doing the opening vocals 🤣🤣 fuck that caught me off guard
So frikken awesome. The whole album is amazing.
Yeah!!! King Chalrles we stand for You!
Greetings from Finland.
🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮💪💪💪💪
Amorphis ❤🔥🇫🇮🤘🤟
A good follow up to this would be Dark Tranquillity, their new album Moment just came out November 20. Eyes of the World is the latest video. 🤘🤘
Am Universum is the second last album with singer Pasi Koskinen. Koskinen never sang harsh vocals, only clean ones. There was another singer for harsh vocals at that time. New and current singer Tomi Joutsen does all the singing after album Far from the sun.
That kicks rock!!1! Sistah&The Wolf go full pogo next episode!!1! ^^)
greatest vocalist in progressive death metal,,,,,period
Wolf, listen to the album Under The Red Cloud. My favourite 2015 overall metal album. I still listen to it regulalry. Masterpiece.
Great info, thanks 🤗 I hope there isn't going to be a test on this later 😬✊🤘
@@WolfKain Haha! 😂👌😆
Hopefully my condition doesn't develop that far! 😶
Just since you mentioned about the pronunciation of Finnish.
Silver bride has a shit ton of energy. And she will love Alone with the old singer and You I Need with Tomi singing ❤
Great song, but I rank Daughter of Hate even higher on the album.
Yes, _Daughter of Hate_ is truly a cut above the rest.
I loove Daughter of Hate!
I think it’s more diffucult to understand than Bee, and I had to listen it several times to appreciate it. But it’s great song!
Amazing song.
Can confirm; not all of us Finns are that great 😆
Awesome reaction to awesome band and song, sistah was flying all over the place and she should. Lemme guess? She loves crowling voice? If so, then react to Amongst the Stars by Amorphis, thats kick arse song with Anneke :)
this song is perfection
My first ever gig was in 1995 I think, LIDO in Leuven. Sentenced, Amorphis (Tales...) and Tiamat (Wildhoney). It was both good and bad. Good because... what could top that? And bad because, what could ever top that? I still think about it often.
Best album of 2018!
By the way: Pasi also cool dude, recommend you song Alone.
Best Amorphis Album, Tales of the Thousands lakes.... a Masterpiece on Doom death metal era!
You should check the whole album. I am fan of the old stuff of Amorphis, but Queen of Time is hands down THE album I have listened the most.
This song is scary good! Dear God, the word masterpiece doesn't quite cover it.
Beautiful music from beautiful people 🥰🇫🇮
Holy wow! What an intro!
Just saw them live. They did actually 3 gigs here where I live.
This was their encore song.
Amazing sold out gig AGAIN
Black Winter Day!!
I love you two. Wolf sits there completely focused on the music giving nothing away as to his thoughts. Sistah the opposite, can barely contain her excitement.
Yes ,Amorphis is a WOW Band!🤘
21:10 And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how slam-dancing began.
14:20 but otherwise 100% correct lol ✊🤘
You should have her started from My Kantele.
My Kantele (acoustic reprise) is one of my faves EVER
Next i recommend Bad blood or Amongst stars :)
RockAss! 😎 And keeping it metal! ✊🤘❣️
Lol rock-ass and Keeping It Metal, fasho!🤭🤗☺️♥️✊🏾🤘🏾
Also, because of this I found myself getting a bit anxious when Wolf went all scrunchy-face, because I love the current incarnation of Amorphis, whereas he didn't know them yet and it gave the impression of him not liking it that much. ;-)
Edit 2: Two quick suggestions from their two most recent albums, I personally love "Dark Path" (ruclips.net/video/B4gbgucV0cg/видео.html) and Daughter of Hate (ruclips.net/video/yXsmR_cvCxg/видео.html).
If you loved this song then you have to listen Winters sleep from under the red cloud album
Nice reaction !! 😀
Thank you!! 😁
Amorphis es un viaje de ida.
This is the part when Gandalf comes white.
Tomi got the best growl in metal
