Amorphis base most of their songs on an ancient scripture from Finland called the Tuonela if I'm not mistaken. As far as I can remember this song is about a king who died in battle and his mother called the bee from the cosmos and the bee started a colony in the kings skull, and the honey brought the king back to life...

This was a fantastic reaction fellas! To give you the lowdown here. Amorphis consists of Tomi Joutsen, Esa Holopainen, Tomi Koivusaari, Santeri Kallio, Jan Rechberger, and Olli-Pekka Laine. The general narrative of their songs comes from the Finnish national epic known as "The Kalevala", which weaves an epic tale about the Earth's creation. It describes the controversies and retaliatory voyages between the peoples of the land of Kalevala called Väinölä and the land of Pohjola and their various protagonists and antagonists, as well as the construction and robbery of the mythical wealth-making machine Sampo. This particular song is based on a piece of a piece of that story known as the Lemminkäinen Cycle. Lemminkäinen is killed while hunting for the "Swan of Tuonela", and he falls in. Tuonela is the river of death. His mother goes searching for him and pulls the pieces of Lemminkäinen out of the river with a rake, and stitched him back together, but he would not return to life. So she beseeches the sky god, Ukko, to return her son to life. When she receives no answer, she asks a bee to fly to heaven and retrieve the honey from Ukko's halls. The bee returns with the honey, and Lemminkäinen is thus revived. I have seen these guys love multiple times, and would very highly recommend doing a track from their "Live at Helsinki Ice Hall" album. It will give you a chance to hear just how talented their vocalist Tomi Joutsen really is. I would personally pick "Black Winter Day", "Bad Blood", or "Sampo".
You only forgot to mention the "seventh member" of the band, lyricist Pekka Kainulainen. There's no Amorphis today without Pekka writing their masterpieces.
Pekka Kainulainen himself has said: "Hi, this text is not a Finnish folk tale. Who know's if there were this kind of a tale somewhere...but it just came to my mind during the writing session when making lyrics for the album. Inspiration or dreaming. The Silent Water, the Skyforger and the Beginning of Times... the lyrics for these albums are more or less connected with the tales of Kalevala but the rest of my Amorphis texts are from my mind and pen. To concentrate on writing may get you into surprising mood." So this is not a Kalevalan tale or even connected to those. A great song still and maybe my favourite album from the group! I think I saw the band first live in ´98 and after that tens of times. Always a good live set as well!
Amorphis is from Finland, with 4 members, and was pure growls & death metal. The third album, Tales From The Thousand Lakes came out and sparked an entire genre by incorporating clean vocals. Each album is different (hence amorphous) and they currently use one vocalist, started with one vocalists (he shifted more to playing and now only does any vocals live as appropriate) but they did two for a while. Then this vocalist joined and they went with one guy who does both growl & clean (other guy i mentioned growls on stage when cleans are also going). I've been listening to this band since 1994, seen them live 4 times, and have a TON of autographed stuff, including a 6-string Dean bass. If they pass your way, go. You won't be disappointed.
This is awesome!!!!! I am definitely going to add this band to my Playlist. I love paytreon requests!!! Its actually my favorite episodes of the week. Some of the music they have requested has blown me away and ipened my mind to a whole new folder of new music.
I salute you guys from Finland. I just realize I have become fan of u two. Allways sincere, positive and nice to listen and look. I came to answer only one question of yours, that is probably answered already: yeah, singer of the band(not original tho) Tomi Joutsen sang all lyrics in this one, like he do in many other song similarly He is quite talented, and I like his cleaner vocals so much. When he was chosen to be singer of Amorphis, he described in a funny way, and said something like "how lucky I am, I am just another amorphis fan, and now I am singer of the band" 😅 Keep content coming guys. Take my likes and subscribe. All the best
Tomi joustan is a beast on vocals. He is extremely versatile. He has done a ton of side projects, too. one of my favorites is hallatar the song My mistake is a duet with one of the vocalists of draconian. It's an amazing goth/doom tribute to the guitarsts late wife (the vocalist of trees of eternity).
One same guy does both clean and growling. The bee is sacred in Finland it shows that even the smallest things matters. This bee comes from our Epic poem Kalevala.
These guys have been around since early 90's and they sound as well as in studio. :D The vocalist seamlessly switches between scream and clean and I'd definitely recommend listening to the live version of this song. Great rxn as always!
Amazing band 🤘🏻❤️ top five for me. Tomi Joutsen is the singer and he sings both growls and cleans. For more songs I would recommend The Smoke The Moon On the Dark Waters Message in Amber Sampo Drowned Maid

Amorphis are easily my all-time favourite band, and it's always fun to see people experience them for the first time. I've always referred to them as "psychadelic metal" as well, whether it's an "accepted term" or not, lol. Their 2nd album Tales From The Thousand Lakes was the soundtrack to my first psychadelic experience, and it was fkn perfect, man 🦅🌌
Nice🤘🏼I probably wouldn't listen to this band often but i like their sound. I'll have to check out more from them. The background I've read about them in the other comments have me interested. Using ancient text to inspire their music. I'm all about that🔥
Not many bands I can think of either. Opeth are probably still the gold standard and I'd also throw in Soilwork if we're talking about one vocalist who does both growls and cleans.
The lyrical inspiration is a bee, also in a metaphoric way. The tiniest thing can sometimes be the most important thing. A bee can bring life or if we destroy all the bees, life will stop here. It’s a very beautiful animal, that’s why you can find it on the album cover too.
Amorphis can be labeled as progressive Death Metal. They started out as a pure Death Metal band. Finnish mythology. In Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Norway they believed in the Norse mythology (Asgaard, Thor, Oden etc.) but Finland was different and they had their own beliefs. Just some fun facts :)
One of the few bands that have released albums constantly for three decades, never repetitive but still always recognizable sound. From the early brutal death metal tracks to melodeath to folky prog rock and mixing all these and more 😊
@@thewildhealer541 hey thanks for that info. As a matter of fact my son eirik and I were just talking about that very thing the other day...about the Finnish having their own separate beliefs. Funny you mention that

Agree must of it that but there are beasts like Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth, Jonas Renkse from Katatonia, Mikael Stanne from draco tranquility, Nick Holmes from Paradise lost just to mention some that could pull off cleans and growls flawlessly
They are the godfathers of Finnish Folk Metal. Their themes often originates to Finnish mythology. Couple of their earlier songs with a different vocalist: "Black Winter Day" (1994) and "My Kantele (acoustic reprise)" (1997). The latter is a Finnish Folk song. The bee is revered and at one point it was believed that the bee could be used to send messages between the living and the dead. There is other references or stories of bees being considered to be stronger than a lion and as in this story when great people or "kings" came up with world changing ideas they were implanted in there heads by the gods via the bee that would bury in there skulls and give them inspiration. Bees were also revered because honey was the first form of sugar and with its discovery it was possible to make the first beers (ale, mead). Wild stuff thanks for jamming this one!
Amorphis is a band that has changed so much over their career. Their first album was pure death. Then they progressed and changed but only got better. Also, Tomi Joutsen doesn't growl. He fucking roars.
Guys Amorphis is yet another still active bands in Finland. But i would love you to react to band called Sentenced. One of Finnish metal scenes more popular bands that quit making music after 20 some yrs. I hope someone throws you a link to some performances Sentenced did.
Yep, that's the one guy singing and growling. They started as pure death metal band, but in mid 90's they were referred as doom death metal band, now it's just called extreme metal with progressive folk elements. Try Amongst Stars or My Kantele live version
Considering how far off your metal genre definitions usually go, psychedelic death metal is a very good assessment 😊 although I'd replace psychedelic with progressive. Yes, the same guy does all the vocals and he's insane!
The thing is, smokey is absolutely spot on with the meaning of the word "amorphis". The band themself says they can't be categorized in a specific subgenere/style of metal, since they use so many different styles of metal and other generes in their music, so they have "no shape".
The song is about death and rebirth in the realm of death Tuonela in Finnish mythology. As it's mentioned further down in the comments here a King died in battle and was decapitated, and his mother in grief brought the pieces of him to the banks of Tuonela where he was brought back to life. This is a story in the Kalevala, a Finnish national epos written in 1849.
You guys have to do more Amorphis.. And its only one singer. They from Soumi/finland. This song is about a guy wehom torned to death dying.. and the bee came from heaven and put him back to life., while his mother was mournbing his death.
One of if not my absolute favorite groups ever. Though this is not the track I would have chosen, it's still really good. Skyforger is in my opinion the best of Amorphis.
Love this band, met them occasionally at shows, listened to them since the late '90s. Amorphis deserves the love. One of so many northern European bands that need more love - in this instance Finnish. Arcturus, Ulver, Solefald, Borknagar ... too many to name. Keep playing lesser-known metal bands, please!
The Bee is by far Amorphis' greatest song but they have several other bangers as well. Amongst Stars, Empty Opening, and Alone come to mind as good songs to react to.
I love Alone. Went to a WWE event and got there super early. When they started the house music I guess it was in alphabetical order and that song came on. I heard the first piano strike and was like, did I hear that? Then the 2nd... no, it can't be... 3rd... holy shit it is! Amorphis being played on the PA of Wellss Fargo Arena before a WWE event! I was so excited to hear that because they don't get the playtime they deserve
You guys really should look at another song of theirs called Godforsaken - has the wife of Nightwish maestro Tuomas singing, Johanna Kurkula. Absolutely amazing song.
I dont know, but I read a book where was told Petri Walli bent the name. Amorphis->Amorphysical-> Physical Amor, amor is cupid in some languages-> Physical Love. Or something like that
GUESS WHO'S BACK BOYS!!! It's me it's me that do double g. What up boys. Well I think it's way past time for another Fear Factory reaction. How about Powershifter or Self Bias Resistor!! Come on fellas lets go!!! Head1 is ghost!

I'm not sure how to suggest a song to be reacted to- but there's an old school band named Hurt and a song of theirs called rapture. I would do a lyrical video if you review it. I think you'd like it. It's a bad @ss song. You guys rock!❤
Finnish pioneers of death metal from early 90´s. About the same time came other band Sentenced that were harder Death metal as Amorphis has some folk & proge vibes. I liked those both at the time as they came. So i would recommend to check out Sentenced. This is song from the early era called Nepenthe. ruclips.net/video/j55oEnYKhVM/видео.html
Amorphis sings exclusively about Finnish national epic Kalevala, so it's mythology most are not that familiar with with metaphors that deviate from Central European. Tomi Joutsen is the sole singer and extremely capable melodic death metal singer. Amorphis is one of the bedrocks of Finnish extreme metal starting as death metal in 1990s and slowly going more melodic and progressive.

They definitely take you on a musical journey that never disappoints
That my friends is Finnish Folk Metal. Greetings from here, Finland.
Love me some Amorphis! Their song The Smoke is one of my all time favourite bestest songs ever in the history music!
nice!
Such a rabbit hole... Hail from Normandy. My 3 one. Amorphis 5 times lives, never désempointé
I’m so glad you guys checked out Amorphis! but you should definetely check out death of a king by them, you won’t regret it!
Considering how far off your metal genre definitions usually go, psychedelic death metal is a very good assessment 😊 although I'd replace psychedelic with progressive.
Yes, the same guy does all the vocals and he's insane!
Check out their cover of Hawkwind's Levitation. It´s trippy and quite awesome!
Check out Wrong Direction!!! The whole Queen of time album is gold
Hell yeah \m/
Sicksense- Feed Them To The Wolves, please and thank you
Please guys, do some Pain of Salvation...please please please. On a Tuesday is a damn good song to start with. ❤
You guys really should look at another song of theirs called Godforsaken - has the wife of Nightwish maestro Tuomas singing, Johanna Kurkula. Absolutely amazing song.
Metal song about freaking bees!! 😂😊
And by the way, it is the same guy singing the growl and the clean part.
I also enjoy The Rasmus and Poets of the Fall from Finland
I dont know, but I read a book where was told Petri Walli bent the name. Amorphis->Amorphysical-> Physical Amor, amor is cupid in some languages-> Physical Love. Or something like that
My favorite band ever
Let's call this music psyche metal.😊
GUESS WHO'S BACK BOYS!!! It's me it's me that do double g. What up boys. Well I think it's way past time for another Fear Factory reaction. How about Powershifter or Self Bias Resistor!! Come on fellas lets go!!! Head1 is ghost!
Hello again. Do what you doing. Fear Factory need more space on channel. ❤
I would love to take a vacation to Nepal. And try everything they have to offer.. If you know what it mean.😉🍃🤯 I have heard they some of the best green, Oil, and everything in between.😊
I definitely want to try some of that honey.😊
I always consider Amorphis as Melodic Folk Death Metal !
Nightwish Tuomas ( keyboard , songwriter) was fan of amorphis and some influence is took there..
I'm not sure how to suggest a song to be reacted to- but there's an old school band named Hurt and a song of theirs called rapture. I would do a lyrical video if you review it. I think you'd like it. It's a bad @ss song. You guys rock!❤
Amorphis - Amongst Stars
This is melodic Deathmetal!!!
Finland had the best metal bands !
Amorphis is one of the bedrocks of Finnish extreme metal starting as death metal in 1990s and slowly going more melodic and progressive.
same dude
🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮❤️❤️
Those growls just makes stuff happen in your body.
I know it’s got like some cool story other than just bees but I think this song is so much cooler just thinking it’s about the common honey bee 😭
i think 80% of the bands or artists you do...i've never heard of😆 and thats saying somethin!
Its the same dude😊
Me at the very start of the song: "what if it's disco?"
Also me once dude starts singing: "okie... that just happened"
🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘
I don't like it.... but.... damn... I like it!!! What universe have I been transported to?!?!
