this song caused a bump in saxophone sales, as a million kids (mostly girls) suddenly wanted to learn how to play it. i only got to hear it when it was on the radio, but i was in school band with one of those girls who joined and selected the saxophone so that she could learn to play baker street. she'd play it every time she pulled her sax out of its case, sometimes while the band director was trying to get us started on practice. i really enjoyed -watching- listening to her play baker street on her saxophone. this was sometime around 1980/81. fun times.
An amazing song by one of my countrymen from Scotland!! I can never get enough of this song and that Sax!! Living here in Georgia it’s always great to experience old songs with someone enjoying it the way you do!!
SUSHI!!! OMG girl! Such a welcome sight to have you here again, you were missed for reals! I was probably 17 or so when this came out on the radio and it was an instant success! You are right about the auto tune stuff, I think it ruined the industry in needing real talent to be an artist IMHO! Hugs & much Luvs! L8R Ed
I first heard this song on the radio the week I moved back from living in Colombia SA for a year. It seemed so warm and welcoming - and of the times. Brings back good memories. Thank you for reviewing this one.
First time I heard the song, i was 7:53 Driving up from Mexico, in Texas. Stopped at a. Small motel, with attached bar/restaurant, ordered a steak & a beer. The song started. I heard that Alto Sax, and said, "Oh my God".
WELCOME BACK....glad you are doing these reactions as you were born to do them as you have great insights. Gerry Rafferty is Scottish, singing about a road in England (Baker Street). The Beatles had their Apple Headquarters on Baker St.
In my opinion, and I’m probably just an old 63 old “ Fuddy Duddy” (as a commenter once called me😄) , but so many young music reacters are jumping out of the cess pool of todays music and diving in head first into the clear waters of 60’s, 70’s , 80’s, and 90’s music, and they are loving it, and we are loving seeing their reactions, it’s like we are hearing the music again for the first time ourselves.
Great reaction to a great song. I played this slbum so much while foing homework back in the 70s ... Gerry was part of an English band Stealers Wheel that had a hit with "Stuck in the Middle with You"...
I love this song! I used to always hear it on the radio back in the day and remember mimicking the sax to my brother to find out what and who the song was. You should check out his song, "Right Down The Line."
Gerry was in Stealers Wheel too. Remember "Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am, "Stuck in the Middle with you"? BTW, this horn solo is DOPE!
I remember the first time I heard this hit from the late '70s. I got off work from the night shift and went to a downtown record store (Sam the Record Man) at an underground mall before catching the bus home. Couldn't wait to put the LP (yep, vinyl!) on the turntable and listened to both sides. One lyric that will ALWAYS be with me is , "And when you wake up it's a new mornin', the sun is shinin' it's a new mornin', and you're goin', you're goin' home.". It was a little after 9:00 in the morning and the sun was bathing me in its soothing blanket of golden rays. Just the extraordinary feeling of comfort and warmth when I hear that line coinciding with the sunshine made for an unforgettable memory. A true timeless classic that touches my heart. A few interesting tidbits about Baker Street: 1) It IS a real street in London, the same one that the character "Sherlock Holmes" lives on. 2) The saxophone part, played by Raphael Ravenscroft, was originally intended for guitar. 3) Gerry Rafferty wrote the song as a chronicle of his struggle to get out of his recording contract at the time. He was in a group called "Stealers Wheel" and owed the record company a couple of albums. He would travel from Scotland to London weekly in his quest for freedom from the aforementioned contractual obligations. He would often stop off at a friend's place rather than make the long train ride back to Scotland. There, they would spend time catching up and they'd "talk about anything."! 4) His estate still receives between 80 to 90k pounds annually from royalties for this song alone.
I prefer your easy going reviews because you allow the music to mesmerize you. The clinical reactors who interrupt the music a hundred times a minute are endlessly frustrating.
Hi Sushi, Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty is such an iconic classic that it will never get old, but will be played & remembered for generations to come!!!
Sushi girl you are lovely. I was 21 year old sailor in 1978 when this marvelous anthem blessed my ears down on Jacksonville Beach Florida. I was on the beach sipping a beer when it came on over radio thinking, " my god" what is this! Yes, to be there when it first came out. And yes dear heart, the music was so pure and simple back in the 70's. My love to you.
"This city desert makes you feel so cold It's got so many people, but it's got no soul And it's taken you so long To find out you were wrong When you thought it held everything" True all too often.
This song still sounds like the first time I ever heard it when it came out. Its timeless. Would be a great song for your introduction on your channel. PEACE
A huge hit in the spring and early summer of 1978. Made Rafferty an instant star. I've always felt this is one the top pop songs of the late70s. Great unexpected fiery guitar solo near the end. Don't know when I heard it first but it was certainly someplace on the Cal State Long Beach campus where I was attending college, Great song.
Sax player was Rafael Ravenscroft.............Gerry was also lead singer of Stealer's Wheel, which did the CLASSIC Stuck in the Middle" which became ICONIC thank to Resevoir Dogs; the Scene when Michael Madsen's Mr Blonde was dancing around while torturing the guy; that was the song
I was probably a teen when this came out. It was completely different than any of the rock I was listening too then. He definitely has his own sound, and I was blown away. Sorry Boston didn't work out, but it's still a great song and reaction!
Aah!!! The beautiful Puerto Rican content creator is back!! Nice good easy music reaction. Just like once upon a time her reaction to Joni Mitchell's 'Help Me'! Lovely. Good to see her back and in a kind Christian modest woman makeover. Take care. Lol 😂😂😂
This song was literally played like 2-3 times every hour (every!) for like the whole year, that's how popular it was. I still can't figure out if I really liked it, but I *did* listen to it. Every time.
It was back when musicians knew how to get the best from their instrument and singers were excellent at their craft. It's pronounced Raff- err- t. We (boomers and gen x) were spoiled by the groups that won the spotlight when we were young. We expected them to be good or we didn't support them. For fun try Bill Withers, "Lovely Day". Very happy sound. Good reaction.
Raf-er-ty Classic 🇬🇧 track of its time and so many trivia quizes about who played what on this one mostly the Saxaphone. 😂 Classicly Melodic by with that big city brass sound and struting electric guitar 🎸🎶. 😸 Master muscisians...
When I first heard this song I Hhhated it. I was 16 and it was always on the radio in the back of the restaurant where I was a busboy. Well I love it now with all that behind me. Great Reaction! Why Sushi?? Please don't say RAW as Raw is SASHIMI! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Imo, it's the best sax solo that ever graced a top40 tune. I never heard a sax sound so mournful or regretful, almost like it was about to weep. It speaks the song's mood during the chorus, some kind of message saying "I thought things would be great in the city, but I've been burned to nearly ashes"... something like that.
That one is a classic. Great choice. I think part of the that is the variety of instrumentation in it. Released in February, 1978. "Raff-fur-tee" Is the phonetic pronunciation?
Great to see you again! Glad you are back! 🎉
One of the most iconic saxophone pieces ever.
Absolutely, this and Clarence Clemmons solo on Springsteen --Jungleland.
More than 4 decades have passed since I heard this song. I'd forgotten how good it is. Thank You Dear Lady.

I don't know what it is, but nobody sings like the Scots.
So glad you are back. hoping things are better for you.

Good to see you back and great song and great reaction. Loved this song growing up.
"Right Down the Line" is another great song by him.
I just sang that at karaoke tonight.😂
Best love song ever. It was written for everlasting lovers.
@@mikemiller3069 Hope you sang for someone special.
Glad to see you back 😊
Been with you at least 4 years or longer. So glad you are back and looking well. Great reaction
Awe I love thank ! Thank you for rocking and rollin with me ❤
Been following since your early days. Glad to see your authenticity back.
So nice seeing you again…love your reaction…thanks for not “over reacting” every few notes, like some reactors do…
Gerry Rafferty was the lead singer in a group called 'Stealer's Wheel' that had a hit with the song, 'Stuck in the Middle with You'.
Oh, that was him?
Never knew that, he doesn't sound like John Lennon on this one.
I first heard this song on the radio the week I moved back from living in Colombia SA for a year. It seemed so warm and welcoming - and of the times. Brings back good memories. Thank you for reviewing this one.

Even though you guys are not physically with me I like to visualize that you guys are and we are all rocking to the tunes together ❤
@ That would be fine with me. Getting to know someone as they discover my music can also be mesmerizing.
Agreed 💯
@@TOOSUSHI I also suggest you check out “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb (1966).
I'm guessing you're referring to The Charismatic Voice? Just a guess : )
It is SO GREAT to see you back!!! We missed you!!
Awe thank you!
Greetings from Poland! Glad to see U back🙂
I’m glad you’re back.

Hi! It's nice to see you again! Love your reactions! I remember this banger from when I was a kid!
Sushi girl you are lovely. I was 21 year old sailor in 1978 when this marvelous anthem blessed my ears down on Jacksonville Beach Florida. "This city desert makes you feel so cold

And it's taken you so long
To find out you were wrong
When you thought it held everything"
True all too often.
Late 70's and early 80's were the years of sax in pop/rock songs
Back in the days when singers and groups actually had talent. Thx for the review!
Missed your reactions kiddo. Glad you're back on
Raff-er-tee...Rafferty. You're welcome! Great to see you!
There was no hiding behind auto tune or electronic additives then. Talent was required.
Heard that song new on am radio.
Have a great day!
Yes, no hiding all authentic! ❤
You came back with some great songs for reaction! Get it girl!!
This is genius. Glad you appreciate the best.
This song still sounds like the first time I ever heard it when it came out. Its timeless. Would be a great song for your introduction on your channel. PEACE
Timeless pieces are the best ❤
This was played on the radio often.Enjoyed that period of time.
Good choice. Always liked this song since I was a kid
Very nice you see you back! Cheers 😁🥂🌹

Welcome back ! Try something in this same vein,
Jefferson Starship
“ Miracles” 😊
I heard this song on the radio when it was first released. The saxophone intro caught my attention immediately! I ended up buying the record 😎
It came out in 1978 hit number 2 on the top 40 charrs in the summer of 1978
You’re the best at this.
I was probably a teen when this came out. It was completely different than any of the rock I was listening too then. He definitely has his own sound, and I was blown away. Sorry Boston didn't work out, but it's still a great song and reaction!

Great song from the summer of 1978!!
More than any other, this song takes me back to 1978, it was on the radio 5 times a day at that time.
This song was literally played like 2-3 times every hour (every!) for like the whole year, that's how popular it was. I still can't figure out if I really liked it, but I *did* listen to it. Every time.
Iconic sax solo, probably one of the most famous on par with the sax in Billy Joel's Scenes From an Italian Restaurant.
I agree. It really does put you a trance.
So good to see you back! "Wild Horses" ~ Tom MacDonald & Nova Rockafeller (GFBF)
Hope all is well with you. Thanks for coming back.
This is the song Dave Ramsey uses to open his radio show. Old school right here!
Thank you for this ,
Nice you're back
A great song. Reflections of Self, Decisions, Relationships and dreams.
I love this song
It's nice to see you again!
High school memories 😁👌💯🖖
So happy to see you back at it! You should give Al Stewart's The Year of the Cat a spin, you'll love it!
Awe thank you! I did react to this one, I believe it was blocked by RUclips

Another A-one song by Gerry is "Right Down the Line".

I think your cat loved the song too 😁

Ooh!! Hehe 😉

Great song! Superb musicians! 😅
Sad, but true: This LP is just one of the many gems gathering dust in my vinyl collection.
You would like "Right on down the Line" too ❤😊
