    I have no idea why I just watched an entire video of washing a dirty rug, but once I started watching I couldn’t stop! There was something satisfying about watching all of that dirt wash out.

    Now I understand why they say a Turkish or persian carpet is an heirloom worth passing on. This video made me realize how durable those threads are for it to withstand the heavy duty cleaning done. What an amazing piece of art.

      Turkish carpets are more durable and long-lasting than Persian carpets. The reason is that the knot thrown while making the carpet is different. This is called the Gordes node. There are about 36,000 knots in a carpet. Their dyes are root dyes and are organic. It does not discolor, although the threads of the loops are shortened, it does not spoil the carpet format.

      It obviously is a good carpet and probably has also not been used massively otherwise there would be signs of wear. I came here because I have a large carpet which I want to clean. Larger and way less dirty than the one shown. I was wondering if harder methods could damage the carpet but that seems to be not so much of a concern.

    That's a lot of dirt. I cannot imagine a home with that dirty of a rug. The workmanship of the rug is phenomenal. A rug that can go through 50 yrs of dirt and then go through the rigors of being cleaned. Turkish rugs are woven to last and oh so beautiful.

      After decades of exposure to dirt and corrosive substances, the fabric’s tensile strength and resistance to wear is nowhere close to original… i’m impressed the carpet didn’t disintegrate. I’d at least remove first all the abrasive particulate matter like sand in a gentle water bath before applying such brutal methods of mechanical stress on it.

      Some of these rugs take long to produce(2-3 years), so he may have considered that even the weaver did not wash it during the manufacturing time. When added to 48 years of service, the unwashed time will exceed 50 years.

    Bought a really nice rug from a resale shop, it wasn't as filthy as this but pretty bad in spots, I used a pressure washer n got it clean, sun dried it, beautiful beautiful rug..

    when people say "all that soap and water is a waste, i'd just buy a new carpet" I think about ones like these and how many of the carpets you've shown on this channel have some amount of historical or clear sentimental value. definitely worth the effort

      I also think about reduce, reuse and recycle. Throwing away something just because it’s dirty is wasteful. Which is worse for the environment? Using soap and water to clean a dirty carpet or throwing the dirty carpet away? The process of manufacturing a new carpet affects the environment too.

      I don't see evidence of abuse and I certainly don't see any restoration occurring here. I don't see any wear pattern on the carpet at all, it looks unused. If anything being covered in soot or silt or whatever it was protected it from the elements. The only thing I see going on here is a very dirty carpet being cleaned quite easily, yes it took a while but, it looks like pretty innocuous silt on it

      My guess? It was in a flooded basement and they wanted to try to save it, because it's such a beautiful carpet, looked unworn once clean. There's no other explanation for how much dirt was on that thing.

    Imagine the original cost and buying a new replacement. Worth the cost to bring back it's natural beauty and no way the quality can contend with 48 years ago if bought new. You brought back it's glory.

    It is amazing to me how much dirt a rug can hold. Even more so with carpets! I will never have carpet in my house. Especially where I live in Florida. Excellent job resurrecting this piece! 👏👏👍

    Im also a rug washer. That poor thing has been a door mat or in a garden for most of its life ! Awesome for you to show how indestructible these natural fiber rugs can be.

    So many thoughts while watching this. ○How can anyone let such a beautiful rug get so dirty? ○Someone brought you a slab of mud, and you turned it into a rug...Magic! ○Water is the greatest solvent on Earth - we are so lucky to have it. ○After clean air, clean water is the greatest gift we've been given. ○It's insane to spend over 20 minutes watching someone clean a rug - and I'll do it again.

    What a beautiful carpet. Sometimes people have an item the value of which they don't know! From a filthy mat that a dog wouldn't piss on to a superb work of art that would grace the wall of a posh restaurant . . .amazing quality to have withstood abuse for so long and still come up trumps!     Stunning! Now if only I can get him to clean my mind in the same way. lol When I watch things like this, I wonder what it must feel like for the person doing the work. To clean things on a regular basis, I suspect it is a great practice for the mind to keep one in a state of balance and clarity. I imagine this would only be experienced by those that truly enjoy what they do.

    Wow this is such a hard work but the result is so rewarding- these carpets are heirlooms and deserve to be saved and preserved for many generations to have them in their homes. I just would bring it more often to be cleaned so the work doesn’t have to be so gruelling
