Just got off the phone with Spectrum and he also had a great work around. He says that the setup for the bulbs and plugs initially go through the wifi on whichever phone you are using to set them up on. If you put your phone in power saver mode it will not try and access the 5g, it will go straight to the 2.4 g. It worked great for me.
Thank you good sir! You saved me. Well 30 mins two reboots and multiple freak outs later my smart bulbs are working! Your explanation on how access the router settings were excellent. Thanks again! Really appreciate the video and the recognition of how utterly frustrating it can be.
Brilliant! Just pair the bulbs a distance from the router to force it to use 2.4 ghz. Saved me a bunch of time and headaches. Singled should link to this video.
Great video, thanks you solved my problem but maybe the title should be more about the solution for those who are stuck during set up as almost 100% of the time, it is because of the 5MHz/2.4MHz issue...
I purchased 8 light bulbs a month ago but struggled to connect them due to frustration with the 2 Ghz Wi-Fi. I will attempt this new approach, and hopefully, it will work. Thank you.
This video is clearly deceptively labeled to obtain views that were unwarranted. A more effective wording would be how to connect a smart light bulb to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on a dual band router. By wording it like that it indicates it's possible to connect a smart light to 5 GHz that is impossibly incompatible as someone is trying to determine if it's possible.
@@eweepurburgerbecause it saves time for people like me! I only have 5G, not dual broadband...I got thisnew 5G router, connected smartphone, connected alexa...but can't connect damn lightbulbs! Now I don't know what to do with 8 2,4G lightbulbs...and I have no light at home and there is not one single 5G lightbulb on amazon to buy...I just don't know what to do now...to go to my internet provider and switch back to 2,4G???
Thank you so very much for your instructions on how to connect a smart light blub to 2g and I have 5g. I did your first suggestion on how to change the broadband settings and it works. Again a very big thank you
Thanks for the ideas. In my case the router had both 5g and 2.4g linked to the same connection point (same name). So I had to assign a different name to the 2.4 one in the router settings, so that Mi Home allows me to connect to it
Im not trying to mislead anyone, this is just what I would search for If I was looking for this answer. Did you not get your answer? Its not possible to make it work with only 5ghz, most of the smart bulbs only work with 2.4. Also I have not yet come across a router that doesn't also have 2.4, what is the brand/model for your router?
@@BeforeYouBuyGuy In your video you say set to 2.4 to pair device, and that works for me, but when i put router back to 5 after pairing, i cant connect to my bulb anymore ? i thought in video it says should still work with 5 after pairing, is that wrong then or did i get it wrong ?(i might add that my router can only do either 2.4 or 5, not both at same time) thx
since you have 2 different Wi-Fi name 2.4 and 5.0. Can you use the 2.4 wifi to do the setup of the smart bulb? Both device should be able to communicate. after the setup of the smart bulb is done. on you cell phone just switch back the 5.0 wifi. Just a suggestion. It should work.
Some networks are set up with separate connection for 2.5 and 5 but others it's just the one named connection which is where you will have issues that can be fixed as demonstrated here. I made this video after reading comments on my smart bulb reviews - many customers have problems with this.

If u have xfinity unfortunately just return your smart bulbs i have tried everything separating it to 2.4ghz will work for 3 mins then it will autom2mesh back to 5ghz even tho i separated it something with this firmware update not allowing this smh
i got new vodafone powerhub, no split band option grrr, wasted 2 hours with cust sercice. had to use separate wap set to 2.4ghz. and also turned all wifi off. set up mobile hotspot with wap 2.4ghz details to connect problem bulb. then switch wap back on. have to keep Vodafone wifi on seperate ssid. usless...
I know this is going to sound silly but I'm really not understanding the last bit , if I unplug the light bulb then it's got no power so If I was to take it outside to get 2.4 GHz then the only way in my small bungalow to do that would be to take it out the ceiling and carry it outside but then it's not got any power , I also haven't seen it flash for pairing mode once ? Is there a pairing button on the light or something ? Looking up at it I can't see fuck all cus it just blinds me I'm just also getting confused when you say take the advice outside to get and get 2.4 GHz WiFi do you mean my phone with the app for the light bulb or I need to take the light bulb far away from the house but connected to power ? Just need to clarify as this is my first ever time with one of these night mare hair pulling out bulbs 🤣🤣🤣 so confusing would be easier If I could turn off my 5ghz WiFi but my fibre broadband literally won't let me
Doesn't work. When I try to pair the smart bulb, the phone says get closer to the router, which means it is enough far from it and still cannot connect.
There’s so reason this app needs 2.4ghz specifically or even WiFi at all. I have other led strip lights with an app that work on 5ghz and no WiFi. Same shit different company it’s all a scam they suck.
Your video title is not accurate, you can not connect a smart bulb designed for the 2.4 band to a 5G router, you can connect the bulb to a dual band router on the 2.4 band!
Yes the IP address can really be many different numbers the ones I listed here are just the most common. You could try the range method which you don't need to change any settings
This video was a complete waste of time. This has nothing to do with connecting smart WiFi bulbs to 5GHz and rather explaining how to turn off that frequency in your router settings so that your WiFi bulbs are forced to connect to 2.4GHz. If your goal was to waste peoples time and thought it would be funny, I feel sorry for you.
Ah this is the solution. Most of the bulbs just won't work with 5ghz and people with the dual band router get stuck. Don't feel sorry for me, I'm doing just fine thanks

iPhone or android?

Thank you so much. Tried to connect the bulbs for hours last night. Your easy to follow instructions fixed the issue within minutes. Super helpful.
Me too so frustrating I’ll try this
I tried fixing my lights for like 2 hours before getting to that third solution of just 'get farther away'. Finally fixed it, thanks!

These new advanced dualband routers do not give you options to login under router settings and they do not have a connection option for 2g or 5g
