Absolute genius! You cracked code!!! Google mesh was the issue. Had to get to the lowest band width. My neighbors think I am nuts. Heck it worked! Thank you!
Oh man, you helped me so much!!! Thank you I can direct my robot vacuum cleaner now. I had problem with connection in my cellphone - 5 GHz and can't find anywhere how to exchange to 2.4 GHz. I spent a lot of time looking for any information how to do it - thanks to you I finish it today. All devices are connected and working. THANK YOU !
You saved me! I walked across the street with a 100 foot extension, set up my sockets that only work on 2.4ghz and boom, they connected! Thank you so much, my 7 year old grandson is very happy to have Alexa turn on and off his bedroom light as he's scared to walk into a dark room. Yayy, you are awesome!
This is great! Just switched to Google fiber. Instead of walking down the street I went and crouched in the room farthest away from the router with a few walls in between and I was able to get the final few stubborn devices to connect! Thank you for figuring this out!
Thank you! I like the idea of this. However, did you put your items in pairing mode before you left the house? Once you walk back to the house, to set up your devices, won't the phone jump back into 5 Ghz? My devices jump out of pairing mode very quickly. I'm concerned they will be out of pairing mode before I get far enough. Suggestions?
Yea your device needs to stay in pairing mode. It may help to have someone at home make sure it stays in pairing mode. If you’re able to find the point that your phone switches to the 2.4 band, you can walk there pretty quickly.
I usually dont comment but you definitely deserve it bro you helped me so much i was 3 hours in to it and decided to watch ur vid and it solved my issue THANK YOU
Hey , just wanna say a huge thank you . I bought a light strip last night and no way could i think of how to connect to it as neither of my phones an android and an iPhone would connect .after seeing your video I took a walk back in my field and tried. At first it didn't work a couple times but when i came back in my house and tried once more ,and boom ! it worked! so thanks dude. thanks .
I’m so glad it worked for you! I had a similar issue with a second set of lights a couple days ago. I had to get creative and walk away in a different direction but I got it to work. I’m glad I could help!
Thank you so much. It took me a long time to figure out how to do this. Search a lot of video and guide. Just 20 feet of walk away from garage will do the magic. Youre the bosssss. Thanks
Thank you so much for this clear explanation and simple solution! We installed a new mesh wi-fi a week ago, and I couldn't get all our smart plugs to connect to it because of the 5ghz compatability issue. I have lost track of how many hours I have spent trying to find a solution. After watching your video, I was able to get everything connected in a few minutes. You rock!
100% thank you. Bought 4 smart plugs and couldn't figure out how to get my mesh (Google) to switch to 2.4ghz. Your solution worked perfectly. Again, thank you so much.
Thanks! This worked except I didn’t want to walk outside, so instead I tried to put my phone in a toaster oven with the door halfway open. The metal shielding was enough to bump it down to 2.4Ghz. I was able to set up the smart plug reaching in to oven to my phone.
You are awesome. I will go home and connect my Defiant Smart Outdoor from Home Depot to my outdoor light and fountain and report back. Than you for making this Video..
Simple fix to the Mesh router problem! Worked perfectly and I was able to get my wife to set up Zmodo cameras at our home in Perth Australia while I am stuck in Singapore due to COVID 19 restrictions.
Thank you from the future..! Your video saved me much time and alcohol.. It took me less time to do this than it took you to make this amazing video..! Thanks again..!
Haha well don’t let me stand in the way of your opportunity to enjoy alcohol! Maybe you can have a celebratory drink rather than a drink caused by frustration.
I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!!! We have the new modem that will not allow you to change it to 2.4!!! You are so intelligent!! Not even Quantum Fiber Support knows this!
Thank you so much for your tip!!!! I could not setup my smart door lock as it is on a 2.4 ghz only connection and my phone connects to my google mesh on 5 GHz. This tip got me connected just now! Awesome!!!!
I am trying to set up a "smart" garage door opener using the myQ app. During the setup process, I have to press the "learn" button on the garage door opener motor and then join that "local network" (via bluetooth I think?) that it creates in order to proceed. I'm concerned that if I walk far enough away from my house for my phone to switch to the 2.4 GHz band of my Google mesh network Wifi that the phone may not remain connected to the opener via it's network or bluetooth connection in order to be able to get the opener to join the 2.4GHz band. Thoughts? Thank you!
Here for this very reason. The walk-down-the-street method didn't work. I even checked my iPhone via the google home wifi devices to confirm I was on 2.4. Did you ever find a solution?
A very good explanation! Other videos usually don’t mention that you have your device in the home in setup mode . Thank you for helping this “dummy” to reconnect to the 2,4g frequency for my smart devices! 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You are Awesome !!!! Thank You!! I just bought a new roomba vacuum and we have 5g and it wasn't connecting. My son and I watched your video and my son was able to connect! YAY #happy!
So once you have reconnected on the weak 2.4 signal your phone will stay on that connection so you can return to your home and set up the device? Or do you somehow have to remotely set it up while you are still far from the house?
I Cannot say how helpful your understanding of 2.4 and 5.)😃 made me happy. I went into the rear of my basement and the 2.4 setup happened with my FEIT bulbs!
Thanks for sharing! Just got a mesh system. Want to double check, once wifi is connected to 2.4 GHz, we then set up those devices needs 2.4 GHz on the spot (far away from home)?
Yea, you set it up while you’re away from the house. If you go back to the house, it’ll reconnect to the 5ghz before you get a chance to set things up.
Waste my time setting up my wireless camera until i’ve really fed up coz no matter what i do still cannot detect the camera. This video really helps me a lot, thanks a lot bro for sharing this video…Its really worked 👍🏻
Yes, but only until the device is connected to the internet. Usually when you’re going through the setup process it will tell you once the device is connected. At that point you can go back inside.
Dude! You saved my life! I’ve been trying to get this figured out for weeks now. I even bought all new lights because I thought the old ones were broken. Turns out, all I had to do was go into my bedroom where one of my mesh transmitters was connected (far enough away to be on 2.4 GHz) and reconnect my phone from there. It was like waving a magic wand. Thanks for posting this.
I’m glad it worked for you! Even more glad you didn’t have to walk as far away as some people have. I’ve heard some people say they just went into a closet and got it to work. Whatever you have to do to get a weak signal I guess. Anyway, glad to hear it worked!
I dont understand plsss help... do i need to get weak signal first and then start pairing to my LED STRIPS or do i need to pair it first and get weak signal?
I agree! Hopefully manufacturers will start accounting for mesh internet systems soon. As I understand it, it’s cheaper the way they’re making things now.
I've been searching for 2 days and I think I found the person to ask....ok so I just got the new Google nest WiFi and won't connect my amcrest 2.4 ip cameras... But I found this video... Question is .... When I walk out but slowly walk back how do I connect cameras if I'm outside....so I'm asking you how did you do it. Thanks in advance 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Yea, while you’re out of the house. That way your phone is only connected to the 2.4 band. If you go back to the house the mesh router will automatically connect you back to the 5ghz band.

You’ve made my night sir, thank you!!
So I’ve turned around and should be o 2.4, question is do I set up camera out in street or go back to house ? So will I switch back to 5 at house and won’t be able connect camera ?
Set it up while out in the street. Once it’s set up you can come back in. Your phone will connect back to the 5 but the camera will stay connected to the 2.4.
Did you have to stay in the alley until the set up was complete, or once it started, could you return to the house and it would stay in 2.4 while the set up was in process?
I thought the Wi-Fi would automatically switch back to 5.0 ghz. When moved closer to it ? It just stays on the 2.4 ??? didn’t know that . Great video . I hope my router does the same and doesn’t switch back to the 5 ghz band. Why do Wi-Fi wall plugs have to be such a challenge with all the high Tec stuff we have today?
I am just looking into mesh system and afraid to buy one as I have a lot of IOTs (sonoff) in the house. I could use an old phone (2.4GHz only) for setting up new devices, but I wonder if the devices themselves will get 2.4 from the mesh, or will the mesh try to serve them 5GHz...

Google Mesh is great if you’re just connecting your phone, computer, or game console but not so great for smart home devices. UNLESS they’re google home devices. Those devices connect right up without any issues.
