I think Lawbreakers looked decent, but Cliffy B's arrogant marketing didn't help as well as the market being over saturated. Battleborn also looked nice and I was intrigued to play it, only problem is that it's literally a carbon copy of OW.

Anyone who actually played both games knew how different they really were. They were both hero shooters with some similar character designs. The experience of playing both games was very different. It was neat that Battleborn actually had a campaign. Still bummed OW couldn’t even pull that off after 7 years and a sequel. I’ll be honest I enjoyed both.
If they hadn't released it right beside overwatch it probably would have done fine. But instead the decided to commit suicide by trying to go against blizzard.
Had they done it like paladins and make it, say, f2p, they probably could have been around for longer. Blizzard can turn any shitty game into a pot of gold (hearthstone), so you can't compete with a Blizzard game by making a similar game and sell it for a similar price.

Y'know when the beta came out I played I tried it out and I thought it was fun so I bought it. It seemed pretty interesting as it had campaign and multiplayer and different classes but the day it came out there were only 3 people queuing up for multiplayer for the next couple of days it was just the same couple of people queuing, so then I went into steam and changed the region to include Asia as well and I only got 6 people I spent more than an hour trying to get into a game. The lobby needs 8 players to start the game :(

After what they pulled with Duke Nukem, Aliens Colonial Marines, and the "unscheduled" dlc for Borderlands 2 that was probably funded by the insane sales of Colonial Marines, and was also not covered by the season pass, I feel like Gearbox finally got what they deserved.
Headhunter packs were literally 3 bucks each and the Borderlands games were amazing all around with insanely high quality DLC. If you say Gearbox "got what they deserved" for the Colonial Marines misstep you are nothing but an idiot.

Not really. Borderlands is a very good game imo. Don't get me wrong, im playin Overwatch a lot at the moment, but the money and time i invested in BL2 were really well spent.
Wieprzek Borderlands is a very lousy shooter. The combat is very repetitive. It doesn't have a lot of interesting gear. It doesn't _actually_ have a lot of weapon variety. Any Far Cry game is miles above it in this regard. The only things it has going for it are loot and humour. Like I said, it was practically the first single player looter shooter and it's the most well known in its niche.

One of the biggest problems that Battleborn had is that 2k can't into effective advertising. Of the few ads they put, none of them gave you any idea what the game even was. This is why people are saying Battleborn is an Overwatch clone, when in reality the two games are nothing alike. If they had made more effective advertising efforts, I think the game could have been a moderate success with a small, but dedicated playerbase. Now it's a ghost town, and it sucks, because there's a good game to found in Battleborn.

One of the things is that you can never start believing that your game is the greatest thing ever, because it will must surely won't, they released it too close with Overwatch (dug their own grave), also, design-wise, the game is just dumb (tryhard humour that isn't natural as Borderlands, weird and uninteresting looking characters, micro-transactions, etc.) I will become a Game Designer in the future as well, and this game taught me a lesson, if you are making something that looks like another game, make sure that what your game has different about it is actually interesting.

I like to imagine that borderlands the pre sequel is a scrapped idea for borderlands' story that they turn down and instead they make a different story for borderlands 1 and after succeeding in the process and eventually releasing borderlands 2 and its DLCs, they felt bliss and empty so they decided to get the ditched story running back for the pre sequel

Y'know when the beta came out I played I tried it out and I thought it was fun so I bought it. It seemed pretty interesting as it had campaign and multiplayer and different classes but the day it came out there were only 3 people queuing up for multiplayer for the next couple of days it was just the same couple of people queuing, so then I went into steam and changed the region to include Asia as well and I only got 6 people I spent more than an hour trying to get into a game. The lobby needs 8 players to start the game :(

Something like this literally happens every single week in the world of books, games and movies/tv shows. You can easily find other examples of stuff like this happening, and it's not even always a bad thing, because it can draw attention to the original. You cannot cherry-pick this example to be bad but be okay with others.

Borderlands is a very lousy shooter. The combat is very repetitive. It doesn't have a lot of interesting gear. It doesn't _actually_ have a lot of weapon variety. Any Far Cry game is miles above it in this regard. The only things it has going for it are loot and humour. Like I said, it was practically the first single player looter shooter and it's the most well known in its niche.

One of the biggest problems that Battleborn had is that 2k can't into effective advertising.
Of the few ads they put, none of them gave you any idea what the game even was. This is why people are saying Battleborn is an Overwatch clone, when in reality the two games are nothing alike.
If they had made more effective advertising efforts, I think the game could have been a moderate success with a small, but dedicated playerbase. Now it's a ghost town, and it sucks, because there's a good game to found in Battleborn.

2:00 The Fact After 6 Years later When Overwatch + Battleborn was release in 2016; First Battleborn fell into the pit and 6 years after the battleborn fell into the pit; October 3, 2022, overwatch also fell into the pit in the same way. and they took lessons in these 2 games in a way they deserve. because they stoled to copied TF2 version plus themselves. and everyone hated desings and gameplay style.
Man, seeing Randy be super optimistic while the result of the game's failure is playing simultaneously just bummed me out. You could tell he was proud of it. Kinda freaks me out because I want to design games but at the same time I don't want to feel like a failure with a crushed spirit. The internet is fucking ruthless whether you deserve it or not.
One of the things is that you can never start believing that your game is the greatest thing ever, because it will must surely won't, they released it too close with Overwatch (dug their own grave), also, design-wise, the game is just dumb (tryhard humour that isn't natural as Borderlands, weird and uninteresting looking characters, micro-transactions, etc.) I will become a Game Designer in the future as well, and this game taught me a lesson, if you are making something that looks like another game, make sure that what your game has different about it is actually interesting.
BlackFrost another important thing, is to know your audience and what makes them interested in it, it's also not a good idea to take multiple different audiences interests and mash them together. (Just letting that out there)
