6:58 for me, this scene of the cop becoming an ESWAT was as cool as seeing the transformation of the Altered Beast game, the sound, the music, the visual effects.
One of the first games me and my brothers got for the Genesis when it first came out back in '89. I remember us getting frustrated when we didn't realize that we had to jump OVER the last crevice on the Level 2 prison stage to get to the boss scene with the two machines (lol). Didn't matter, E-SWAT was a fun game for us and still holds its charm after all these years.
What can I say? The very thought of it makes me nostalgic for the passed time. This is one of my favourite games ever. I have good memories about it. The sound is superb as well as the gameplay. Thank you for gaming with this game.
When you hear the music start in the 1st level you know shit just got real. Some of the music amazing video game music of all-time. A forgotten gem, they just don't make 'em like this anymore.
The main enemy was a robot. Disguised as a man. Wearing a robotic suit. Ah the 80/90s. I thought I never finished this game but apparently I did. I remembered the final boss and the ending when I saw it.
The cover art blew me away when I was little. I liked this game a lot, still play it every now and then. Kinda like Rolling Thunder crossed with Shinobi. It's got that gorgeous Sega skyline in the first stage.
Meu amigo... Quando a saudade bate, a saudade bate mesmo. Anos atrás, eu tive um Mega Drive da Tectoy que vinha com esse jogo. Detalhe: QUASE ZEREI. Mas as memórias são inesquecíveis.

Wow. One of the rare games I had that a lot of ppl weren't talking about. The gameplay, the music... this would make for an awesome reboot if they wouldn't fuck it up. I can't even remember if I beat this or not. Good play
A Genesis classic in the mold of Revenge of Shinobi. Much better than the arcade version and a must for all fans. I always enjoyed that spinning flamethrower, what a hoot.
you may have, one of the WORST cases of confused nostalgia, that I have ever read online. This game is borderline terrible. You need to take off the nostalgia goggles to judge this accurately. Here's a little proof, if you check any top rated list of sega games on any respected website, you will never see this game. If you love it, great, but don't make up trash like its one of the best sega games. jeez
1° The Mega Drive versions of ESWAT & Shadow Dancer aren't direct ports but rather exclusive titles and, yeah, they're better than the Arcade opus. 2° Whether about direct Arcade ports or not, there are a lot more cases of better Mega Drive versions than the Arcade ones like with Chelnov (Atomic Runner) or Hellfire ;) And that's one among many others reasons why I love the Mega Drive like crazy: it's Arcade at home and so much more!
+dum fuk In case of Shadow Dancer i favor the Genesis version, in E-Swat i think i like the arcade better. Either way, i love how good were the console version of these games instead of just being lazy ports.
dont agree ..the arcade version of this game is better.. genesis version is a diffent game ..didnt like the sound effect and graphics on the megadrive ..is small, weak...etc.
dum fuk Eewwww. The Arcade version of Shadow Dancer is like the best Shinobi game ever and the one with the better and detailed graphics. I didn't know you could shoot the black goo in the 4th level mission. Good to know. I would always run and wonder why I couldn't get pass that level. Thanks for the play through. Godspeed!
L'arcade era divertente, ma questo per Megadrive lo strapazzava in tutto: grafica, sonoro, coinvolgimento, sfida...! Un capolavoro di programmazione!!!
I wonder why this game isn't available for new generations, with better graphics and sound. This game is amazing! OMg I miss those days when I had my first Mega Drive (yes in Brazil Genesis was named Mega Drive)...
well in fact, the name fo the console is mega drive in the whole word but in the USA, which is only one country in the world, in comparision. i mean the console is known as Megadrive.
i have this game on the Sega genesis collection for the ps3 and i think this is an awesome game, I'm 14 and i think all old school and new school video games are equal in awesomeness. Mario, final fantasy, call of duty, halo, fallout, sonic, etc etc
And coming soon from Sega and Netflix...E-SWAT: THE SERIES! Set in the fictional city of Sega City, when an officer/technician's girlfriend training to be the next Bayonetta is crippled by a powerful crime organisation, he must train and become an E-SWAT member to avenge her and fight crime and corruption! Only the E-SWAT team are Sega City's best defence when nothing else works.
Just beat the game for the first time, took 4 attempts total. Tbh, I'm frustrated that Sega never followed up on this super creative game with a sequel. The amount of potential this game had in 1990 is great! There's no other 16-bit game that I can think that has free form jet movement like this, with a charge arm cannon+ missiles and whatever else. Did Super Metroid and Mega Man X take a page out of this book for the charge shot? That is potential that Sega could have reaped for themselves. Awesome game with flaws (ex the camera is awful) that could have been ironed out to perfection the same way SOR, Shinobi and Sonic were crafted to mastery with sequels. Albeit Revenge is stellar as it is.
Ngl, eswat was my first game ever on genesis, it's unbelievably hard that time and i sometimes barely able to cleared up stage (because how many bullet in that stage lol)
Gabriella Béres While the PS1 and Saturn had some fun games, early 3D has not aged well, unlike sprites, which never really seem to age at all. The sounds in the music remind me of Gain Ground, like the drumfills and the snare drum. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the music was MOD based with a pre-selectable set of sounds composers could use.
Haha, that is cool. Keep watching then cause I'll always be putting up classics whether they are infamous for being terrible or obscure gems that have rarely had eyes ever laid on them.

Well played lad (on manly mode too because you get 4 life bars as the cop in girly mode) but I would have got the rocket launcher in mission 3 and super, it makes the boss so easy - plus the RL is great for the scientist too and some of the bad guys on mission 5. You made it look easy though! I'd have taken the easy way on every battle but you dodged those boss attacks like neo from the matrix
Somestimes i wish we had eswat cops like this in real life. Fighting secret terrorist agencys. Destroying helicopters with a pistol and wearing those advanced armors

Thirty years later, and E-Swat remains a more complete game than the dogshit that is Anthem.
The forth mission just oozes fun.
Yea for the time it was awesome and it is even now and it also a bit disgusting
What's sad is this probably has more of the game done in the time it took Anthem to make a single mission.
E-Swat is pure shit!

This game deserves a sequel.
The game is too damn hard! As a child I had no chance of seeing all the cool stages!
Take elements from Mega Man , Metroid and Robocop combine them all together and you got ESWAT.
this game is a masterpiece and the guy playing it plays very well
