- European Motorhome Tour 12/45. PLITVICE LAKES was the top of our "must do" list for Croatia. It didn't disappoint, it is an amazing place. We've included TIPS to help you get the most out of visiting Plitvice Lakes.
Tip #01 Use Entrance 1 so you can walk up river getting a full view of the Plitvice waterfalls
Tip #02 Book an early time slot, big crowds come by coach to Plitvice from Split and Dubrovnik around 11am
Tip #03 Consider buying a 2 day ticket, if you like hiking there's enough to fill 2 days
Tip #04 Buy your tickets online in advance, we walked straight in without out queueing (numbers are limited by hourly slots)
Tip #05 The Plitvice lakes are stunningly beautiful everywhere but the "creme de la creme" is heading up the river from Boat Station 2
Tip #06 It probably goes without saying that good footwear is a must, Plitvice Lakes is much more spread out than the Krka Falls and the walkways are made from logs, they are well maintained but there is a chance of a trip
Tip #07 We arrived at Plitvice for the first 8am entrance slot, the position of the sun was challenging for getting good photo's it was either too bright or there was a big shadow. Consider visiting the best bits at different times of the day
Tip #08 The Supljara Cave is easily missed so be sure to look out for it nearish Entrance 1. We recommend walking up it from the lake rather than down as it is quite steep. Maybe at the end of the day as you head back to Entrance 1
Tip #09 You can't park overnight in the Plitvice Carparks so choose one of the Campsites close by. We stayed at Camping Plitvice which is the closest. It does get full, even in mid season so booking advised
Tip #10 Don't be fooled by the lack of people in this video, it does get very busy but also don't worry about the crowds, it is a big place and it is possible to get away from the crowds
Tip #11 Take water with you, it can get very hot and it's a fair walk between the refreshment areas
Tip #12 We didn't think the food prices were over the top but also there were so many nice places to have a picnic with views over the lakes and waterfalls so we definitely recommend taking a pack up

@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures yes Michelle , we would love it there :0) xxx
Spectacular 🤩
It sure is an amazing place, Cheers...Andy&Michelle
OMG how good is this place. All those waterfalls. Your video did it all justice. Well done. We can't wait to visit ourselves one day.
Thanks, its good to hear you think we did it justice, we tried hard to get this one right 😀 Yes this one is a must for anyone visiting Croatia 👍 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
What an amazing place to walk. It's now in my Google Maps - Places to Visit folder :) Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Alan, yes this is definitely a must do if visiting Croatia 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Wow just stunning again guys! Music choice great! 👌❤
Thanks Paul 😊 - it was a big one on the music this one 12 different music tracks, Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Hi both - loved this vlog such a beautiful place need to put it on the list ! Looking forward to your next vlog ! Thank you for prize too ! 😊💕💕
Hi Janice, your welcome 😊 glad it arrived ok😀 , Plitvice lakes are definitely one for this list! 😀 glad you enjoyed the vlog, cheers...Andy&Michelle
What a magical place, you lucky pair 👍🙂
Yes, really is a magical place 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
There is a word in the English language made for places like this and that is “Wow” it looks amazing. I would even prefer this place to riding on a Steam train. Also for you guys to say that there’s enough walking there for 2 days mean that it must be the size of a small continent 😂 absolutely loved this one 😍
Yes it definitely had the wow factor😀 Just imagine... if they had a steam train to take you around it! 🚂 it would be heaven for you! Glad you enjoyed it, we loved it there😍 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Simply stunning, thanks for sharing !!.
Thanks , it was an amazing day there 😀 cheers.. Andy&Michelle
Wow absolutely fantastic, thank you 😃
Thanks Paul 😊 glad you enjoyed it 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Wow looks amazing and great video as normal 👍🏻
Thanks Tony 😊 it was a stunningly beautiful place to visit 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
19 miles??? You animals!! 😂
Again, the colour of that water is amazing!
We honestly didn't feel the distance at the time, the scenery was just so mesmerising 😀 as you'll see in the next video we had to go for a slap up breakfast the next day! Cheers...Andy&Michelle
What a great immersive experience, superbly presented. We did a running series around Croatia on our treadmill using the IFIT app about 18 months ago and have it in our bucket list. The lakes were crazy busy on on instructor led series but still beautiful. We were still living in Oz at the time but now we’re back in the UK it’s within easier access. Thanks for bringing it back into our focus. ❤👏
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it😀 The crowds were still there we we visited in September but we arrived early (8am) and went to the remote parts during the peak 11am - 3pm Cheers 😊 Andy&Michelle
What a beautiful place! I’d seen pictures of the lakes with the little wooden pathways a long time ago and would love to go there one day. Will try to remember all your tips for when we do. Nice that there is so much to explore and it seemed to be open really early so you could make a full day of it - those drinks were very well deserved at the end!
We'd seen the lakes many times on the internet so it was really good to go and see it for real, getting there early is was definitely a good move. It was a really pleasurable day hiking around 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Wow, those waterfalls are amazing. What a place to visit. Great video, reckon you enjoyed your drinks after that 🍸🍺
It was the top of our bucket list for Croatia and didn't disappoint😄 sure did enjoy those drinks afterwards🍸🍺👍 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
We are from New Zealand which is a very beautiful country itself. But we visited Plitvice in 2019 and it is just stunning, it is really hard to do it justice with photos or videos it is a must visit. Also that was not busy at all when we were there you had to queue for up to 45 minutes for the boats. Great vlog keep up the good work.
Thanks Brett, what a great place you live. We can't image how great it would be to have New Zealand as home. We are planning a visit starting January 2024 and just deciding how long we need to do it justice, maybe 6-8 weeks😀 We were at Plitvice in September and it was busy but by luck more than anything else we were on the boats early morning and late afternoon, during the peak we were in the more remote areas. Cheers...Andy&Michelle
@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures Hi I would say at least eight weeks. I assume you would be renting a camper van and if you do my wife who has worked in travel all of her working life said you will need to book one a year ahead. She also recommends coming out of peak time maybe March/April as most Kiwis will be back at work by then and the weather is more settled at that time usually.
That was a fantastic video guys and great footage without the need for your drone. Looking forward to the next one. Irvine & Karen.
Thanks 😊 Yes, you can do a lot with a long pole, I did get some strange looks though, especially on the boat🤣 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Great review and a place i have been to many times over the last 40 years it never disappoints and hasn't changed a bit . a proper little garden of eden ..
Thanks Tony, it was our first time there but it won't be the last, such a beautiful place 😀 We still need to hike downstream from Entrance 1, it wasn't advertised on the routes but I could see a path on my phone app
This is top of our list to visit, and you have to do the longest route to see as much as you can whilst your there 👍
Such an amazing place and you captured it spectacularly 😍
That beer was well deserved after that walk. Did I miss you comment on if there is an opening and closing time? Just wondered how early you can get in?
Magical video 👍😍 Cassie and Derren x
This was the top of our list for Croatia😀 it was so good we did the longest route and anything else we could find😀 Times change through the seasons but when we were there in September we booked the 8:00 - 9:00am slot and arrived bang on 8 to get ahead of the crowds. We left about 6pm, definitely got our monies worth🤣 Cheers...Andy&Michelle x
Another hike added to our list for the next road trip! Thanks for your tips both 😄. Best bit of that hike was that cracking of the cap on the beer bottle 😍
You're right! ...a good hike is not complete without cracking a cap or pulling a pint!! 😀
Very good job yet again keep them coming👍👍👍
Thanks, Gareth😀 lots more to come, Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Looks amazing. That is definitely going on the travel bucket list.
Yes this was a big tick off our bucket list ✅ 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Wow another outstanding video thank you Andy and Michelle
Thanks Rick 😊 🙏 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Excellent video. I've seen many Plitvice videos but this is one of the best.
Thanks Mark😊, we really appreciate that, a lovely complement 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Beautifully captured 🤩 it was lovely when I saw it on a changeable day with rain, but it looks gorgeous on a sunny day. I remember wanting to swim all the time, which was the biggest frustration, although I can understand why it's banned. When you come to Finland, you can swim in any of our 180,000 lakes without a worry 😁👍🏻 cheers guys!
Thanks Jared 😊yes those Plitvice waters look so inviting for a swim - but wouldn't with a few hundred tourists in there🤣 so maybe for the best. I just had to google lake temperatures in Finland expecting them to be quite cold but was pleasantly surprised👍 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
You pair are fantastic! Loved the video as always!!
Thank you 😊 glad you enjoyed it😊 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Beautiful photography, I was there in 2018 and it brought back all the memories of this special place. There is a little village nearby called Rastoke which has similar karsk waterfalls without the admission charges or the tourists, definately worth a visit if in the area.
Just googled and omg we can't believe we didn't know about Rastoke, we even drove past it as we entered Plitvice National Park from the north! Well its on the list for next time, thanks for the info👍😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
One of my favourite vlogs 😍 I visited Krka national park back in 2017 but didn’t make it far up enough for Plitvice however this has now put it on the list for future travel plans. Can’t wait for your next video - loving this tour 🤣
Glad you enjoyed the vlog 😊 we have the Krka vlog coming in about 2 or 3 video's time😀 we found Krka and Plitvice were very different experiences but which did we rate the better 😀⁉️cheers...Andy&Michelle
Thank you for the memories
Our pleasure 😀 Andy&Michelle
What a pity you can't swim, those waters looked amazing.
Yes, unfortunately too many people wanting to swim, Cheers...Andy&MIchelle
Great vlog with some stunning pics/views, just added this to my wish list now and as you suggest an early hours visit on the plan, can’t wait for the next vlog👍
Thanks George 😊 glad you enjoyed it, definitely a good one for the wish list 👍 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures Hi, I forgot to ask, having watched your Pula vLog, what coffee machine do you use and is the coffee to put in it, easy to get your hands on? I love my morning coffee.
Hi George, we use a Tassimo Coffee Machine with Kenco XL Americano Grande and Costa Latte. We've found the pods in Germany before but didn't see them in Croatia or Italy, good job we took about 100 pods with us 😀☕️ Cheers
We have some amazing beautiful vistas here in NZ but this was totally jaw dropping beauty
Wow, it’s really special when someone from NZ talks about jaw dropping beauty from a different country 😀 hoping to see those vista’s in NZ early 2024😀 cheers…Andy&Michelle
Taking the boat? What's this, "(Less) Extreme Motorhoming Adventures" :-) Another cracking place though, looked very peaceful, good idea to get started early. 8 hours of walking was just like me at the NEC (and I did it for 5 days) OK, maybe I didn't walk non stop for 8 hours. I must admit I was expecting Andy to go for a dip when he was on that log.. Excellent as always. Thanks for sharing..
Yes the boat was a break from the extreme, we even worked out that our walking pace was faster than the boat🤣 One day at the NEC wears us out, don't know how you managed 5. Extreme Caravan Vlogging! 🏃♂️📹Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Brilliant Vlog, so much information that you have shared, tips, activities, places to go. Quick question - what do you use to create the map graphics (route etc) that you use at the start of each of your videos ?
Thanks Gareth, great to hear you find it useful. We use "Motion 5" which is an Apple graphics app, 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Superb guys. The coverage was amazing and so professional. I’m sure you’ve answered this one before Andy but what equipment were you using to capture it.
Thanks Steve 😊 I used a GoPro 360 Max for the ariel shots and a GoPro 10 for the everything else in 4k. (The 360 only renders out at 1080p so I have to upscale to 4k which looses a bit of quality). There's also a list of equipment in the video description if you should need a link😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures Thanks Andy. Once again - a great watch 👍
Thanks for this. It brought back happy memories. If you fancy seeing some photos of Plitvice Lakes I did a series of photo articles on the Macfilos blog site - you need to search under Plitvice Lakes and or my name. I suspect you'll be back there! I also recommend Paklenica and Krka National Parks, the hiking in Paklenica is spectacular. I also posted photo articles on them.
Hi Kevin, I've just been looking through your articles on Macfilos, wow those waterfalls need to be seen in full flow and in all seasons. Your articles are superbly written with so much information and the photography is superb😀👍 We visited Krka falls, that video is a couple down the line but we didn't see Paklenica, definitely next time! 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures Thanks! Glad you liked them. I look forward to seeing your next videos.
Looks amazing. What time of year was your visit?
Hi Andy, it was amazing😀 it was filmed mid September, Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Beautiful. How the world would look without our interference perhaps.
Very true Bob, nothing comes close to the beauty of nature...Andy&Michelle

Route K, under 3 hours for you two I hope :)
ha ha... we did route K and C and B and... - about 18 miles🤣 Cheers...Andy&Michelle
Absolutely stunning - no other words needed! Thank you for sharing again guys! ❤️
