- What's it really like? Is it possible to WILDCAMP in CROATIA in your van? Everything we learnt after two months on the road in Croatia, living that illegal van life.
In this video we share everything we wish we knew before travelling to Croatia to escape the Schengen Zone in our van, and lots of the questions you guys had about what it was like in Croatia: WildCamping, Park Ups, Park 4 night, police, safety, locals, weather, facilities, litter, water, fuel, roads etc. etc. etc. Hopefully we go over a lot of stuff that might give you peace of mind before coming to Croatia.

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. So after waiting for six months for the borders to reopen in Ireland we have finally hit the road in June 2021 and spent 90 days enjoying vanlife in Spain. Then we spent the next two months enjoying vanlife in Croatia before heading onto Serbia where we currently are

Very interesting video from the perspective of us locals. I'm glad you've had a nice time in our country regardless of some problems you've come across in your wildcamping.
Regarding this windy conditions it really depends of time of year and region you're at. In summer season ( second half of June, throughout July and August to the second part of September) but also around late spring there's typically much less windy. Also, in colder part of each year it tends to be much more windy at the Adriatic with sometimes even very strong local winds known as bura or jugo for several days.
Also, continental half of our country tends to have less wind except for the winter season when cold eastern and northern winds sometimes can be stronger. But that doesn't last for extended time in continuity.
At the end, you were right, Croatia is very safe country that usually gets somewhere between 15-20 safest countries globally in many renowned ranking lists which is much metter than majority of western European countries let alone USA since there's very low annual statistics of violent crimes, thefts, ... and with almost non-existent history of terrorist threats or incidents.

Thanks for the shout out! It's funny because we had the exact same experience with trash in Ireland this past summer (Republic of Ireland to be specific). We had such trouble always trying to find bins to dispose of our trash and often carried it around for days. Once we crossed into UK (Northern Ireland) there were suddenly giant dumpsters everywhere!
Hahah!! That's so interesting!!! Next time we are home in Ireland and there is no lock down (hopefully) we will be doing a full road trip in the Republic, now I will rember that the bins are few and far between, so when we see one, just dump it 🤣🤣

W are in Croatia right now and this video is spot on 😁 Particularly with people trying to take over while driving. I don't think it matters what speed you are doing, there is always someone driving up your arse trying to over take 🤣

I believe back then we were using Voxi SIM, but now it has a fair usage amount on it and charges you roaming costs thanks to Brexit. We now have a "free" SIM we got on France and it's working for as all over Europe and even now in Asia!

we love croatia. we stayed in airbnb mind but really nice people and scenery. have you guys been to crete at all? we live in the agricultural area of chania and where we take our dogs for a walk down by the river and down the local beach we see van lifers regularly. there are lots of fresh water supplies here and large public bins (recycling too). most of the beaches have free showers (heated too) changing rooms and toilets.
We would love to go to Crete!! Sounds like a vanlifers dream!! Perhaps will have to look into the practicalities of trying to get the van there for a future trip, sounds awesome

In the previous video Philly answered the phone at a phone booth . There’s a movie named phone booth that I really like . There’s a pro lady that has a line immediately after she gets hurts that made me bust a gut . I was so loud my son was embarrassed. Anyway good movie .

Never had an issue with internet, we got a Croatian SIM and it worked well for us, 4g was good we just put it in our little dongle in the van
