    We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. So after waiting for six months for the borders to reopen in Ireland we have finally hit the road in June 2021 and spent 90 days enjoying vanlife in Spain. Now we have just finished our time in the very beautiful Spain and have arrived safely in Croatia for the next leg of our journey.

    What 'luxuries' would big your biggest spend on a three month trip? And how much do you spend on food a month? We would love to know if we are super high or low compared to other couples food spends. Remember we have a small fridge so have to eat fresh lol 🤣 excuses excuses.

    Hello. Lots of useful information here. One tip: don’t fill up full. A litre of diesel weighs around 850 grams. If you keep your tank half full, that’s a lot less weight to pull around. Your fuel consumption will be less, the van will feel a bit quicker and tyre wear will be lighter which saves money in the long run. We got that tip from a van dealer. Worked for us. Happy travels.

    Junctions = Intersections . Park Ups = Boondocking . I never heard Boondocking until I started watching RUclips . Kinda means illegal parking but mostly accepted . In my city it’s illegal to live in a vehicle of any type . The mayor here once bought a ambulance for a homeless man to live in . He told what he did on the news and the police took away the ambulance from the homeless man that day . Mayor said he didn’t know he was breaking the law .

    • @anewlifeinportugal
      @anewlifeinportugal 2 года назад

      The coolant system is a sealed and pressurised system, unless you have a cracked expansion tank, leaking hose, leaking water pump, radiator or head gasket failure you shouldn't really lose any no matter what climate you drive the vehicle in.

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 года назад

      We must have a leak somewhere, we've had it checked over three times since we first noticed fluids needing topped up very quickly and so far no garage has been able to see a leak. We just top them up regularly so it's not a big issue, I suppose the only issue would be if we let anything run dry by accident, but we are pretty paranoid about it, so hopefully won't happen

    All of the useful, thank you very much. Enjoyed watching. Did you come across many ‘older’ travellers? My friend who’s is has a van and is female and solo, in her seventies really wants to go - has a dog for company- but is worried about driving on the opposite side of the road and violence against vanners. Do you say. Go for it to her or maybe not?

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  2 года назад

      A good portion of people we seen were older, but mostly in RVs. We are trying to convince my parents who are both nearly 70 to go tour Spain in a van, we didn't experience any anti van stuff while we were there, it seemed much more accepted in Spain than in the UK. You adjust to the opposite side of the road pretty quick, just follow the traffic haha.

    more or less 400 to 500 euro's for a month - INCLUDING FOOD. however, EXCLUDING afaik your vehicle insurance and taxes, or i faded out for a moment. i don't know UK prices, but Spain's prices for a vehicle's tax and insurance are like 400 a year combined, so that'd be like let's say 30 a month.
    so let's keep it at 500, being able to live for 500 a month is decent.
    Now if you were to be able to rent out your own home for a year, or perhaps two, for a decent price - let's say between 800 and 1000 a month, you can easily live like that for a year or two.

    • @phillyandkeely
      @phillyandkeely  6 месяцев назад +1

      We always pay our insurance and tax up front at the start of the year so it's not a monthly cost we need to factor in, so our only monthly expense bill is our phone. Insurance in UK for this van is around £600 and £240 to tax, so that's prob about €1000 converted. We lived in the van in London for a year, our previous rent and bills were £1800 a month, plus same cost in petrol commuting everyday and more expensive food bills, so compared to our previous life this is very affordable. But there are much cheaper places to live haha, but just comparing to the year in London with a flat and cat before and then after with the van. I think the main thing for us is not having monthly bills we are tied to, so we can slow down or eat more cheaply if things are tight that month, we are in control of where our money goes if that makes sense. The ultimate goal would be a little piece of land though, vanlife is not sustainable forever for us ❤️ sounds like UK is a lot more expensive than Spain, so we are defo hoping to live here in future haha

      @@phillyandkeely i get it, i actually live in spain, moved from NL. much more affordable (costa blanca). I think pure vanlife is doable for single, solitary people. I'm married and two people in such a confined zone too long is asking for problems.
      if i was still alone and single, i think i could live pretty good enough from a (box)van, gaming, ytubing, fitnessing, and doing home office work whilst renting out my property.
      hell, i could park on my own street and still rent out lol
