While it might be a retcon I really like GT's idea of there being consequences for abusing the Dragon Balls. Treating these magical artifacts like a free get out jail card for anything mildly inconveniencing. And our heroes having to face that is really fascinating. Not that it was exactly executed well, but conceptually it's an amazing idea. It's a way better idea than pretty much anything Super presents conceptually, at least in my opinion. Like if I was in the writing room whenever this idea was pitched, I'd be like Hell yeah

Now they're just treating them as a joke in Super with Bulma using them over and over again for cosmetic surgery and Frieza using them to grow a few centimers taller 😭😭😭
People shitted on GT so hard that when I finally realized the plot was that the dragon balls were being overused I thought it was a great continuation of the story too bad the execution was absolutely terrible
@@darthnutsack6717 They were always a joke? I mean, it might just be your selective memeory, but the first wishes with the dragon balls were jokes. Oolong wished for underwear, Bulma planned to wish for a boyfriend, Yamcha wanted to get over his fear of girls, etc.
They could still make an arc about that after the end of z
The black star dragon balls were probably just stone for most of dragon ball while kami and piccolo were two separate beings but reactivated after they merged during the cell arc
@@reptilian_geneticist that isn't a theory that's absolutely what happened. Also it wouldn't make any sense for Picolo to mention it, because not only that wouldn't solve any problem, and would create a bigger one.

Can anyone explain how Pilaf even knew about the Black Star Dragon Balls? Guy was absent the entire previous series, pretty much had no resources to spy on Goku, and is by far the weakest main villain, but knew one very important thing the main cast didn't?
@@taecampus Probably someone was up on the look out at the time and documented it, I'd say probably one Master Mutaito students.
No official explanation, but I can make one up: remember how Bulma first made a radar, based on the energy emitted by one ball? Pilaf also had a radar, presumably made the same way. But it was destroyed and he was left with no dragonballs. So maybe he made another radar going by memory, and screwed something like the frequency or whatever, detecting instead the Black Stars.
It could just be a plot device.
Pilaf is the one who found the Demon King Piccolo and unsealed him. He was briefly even one of Piccolo Sr's minions. Presumably he heard of the Black Star Balls' existence directly from the Demon King himself.

This makes me think about how it really doesn't make sense that New Piccolo couldn't make Dragonballs, if the Nameless Namekian could make a set.
There are actually different clasees in the namekian race, Which is the dragon clan that makes dragon balls and the warrior clan which is piccolo that fights. For source it was in dragon ball online but still there are different canons in the db verse so this could possibly be either true or false
@@JackedUpEntertainment That makes sense. Another Headcanon I have is, since the Black Star balls were made that way because the nameless Namekian had evil within him and before the split, it might be, that he feared making another set just like the black Star balls when re-emerged.

There is also the fact that he is a fighter. Being the dragon balls creator means that you shall avoid fighting to protect the dragon balls existence.
If he died, the dragon balls would turn into stone. Wich would also make them useless.
I’m pretty sure that demon king piccolo was also dragon clan, but when Piccolo jr was created he made him as a warrior type.
I mean Piccolo isn’t his father imo and he’s the dominant persona from both of his fusions so I never thought he’d adapt Kamis traits, just his strength
I think back then they could have made so the original balls started absorbing the evil energy, maybe prompting Dende to try and extract the energy out of them to avoid any problems, and creating the black star ones as a containment measure, but he only manages to remove a bit of the energy, making so the dragon balls still crack later in the anime.

nobody's looking and makes the wish.
Imagine using the Black Stars to restore the normal ones, then used the normal ones to retrieve the Black Stars...
The restoring idea isn't bad but the problem is the normal one's don't have the power to locate them, in Dbs Shenron/Shenlong couldn't even grant the wish of finding the Super db's cause of it's limitations.

Yeah, thing that never made sense is how they still existed in the first place. When they chose Piccolo as the host for the merger it was specifically stated that because Piccolo wasnt part of the dragon clan that they would lose the dragonballs and he cant create more, that was the whole reason for them bringing Dende to become the new guardian, so how exactly can they be linked to merged Piccolo if the normal dragonballs couldnt be?
Piccolo is not a different Namekian that Kami per say. The original balls were created solely by Kami without piccolo who was originally the weaker evil side of Kami or Nameless Namekian. So it turns into stone because it wasn’t created by the Nameless Namekian. It really doesn’t matter if they use piccolo body or Kami. They chose piccolo as the man body because of his strength and youth. It’s still the same Nameless Namekian.

I’m saying the Black star balls activated when they became the Nameless Namekian again. Piccolo only calls him that because it’s too complicated to call him anything else. @@alishabazz7431 Doesnt matter, by using Piccolo as the base to remerge they lost the ability to make dragonballs period, so having a set exist just because they remerged makes no sense. The black star balls shouldve remained as stone.
@@dstr001 I hope you know that piccolo and Kami had the same body at one point. It’s not as complicated as y’all try to make it. The balls turns back when they become one being again. He doesn’t have to create balls for them to activate.
i actually had a headcannon for what is said about the black star dragon balls appearing and why piccolo couldnt just make or deactivate more. I always thought that at the time they made the black star dragon balls the original nameless namekian had kami as the base. That would mean he would have the ability to create those dragon balls and have those magical abilities.
however when they seperated they lived two sepereate lives, kami is much older and has more magical like abilities like the dragon clan and piccolo has the warrier strength of that clan of namekians. when they fused back together piccolo emphasized that he wanted his youthful warrier body to be the base, so now that piccolo is the base and not kami then he loses the magical abilities to make dragon balls but retains his strength and fighting abilities.
it also makes sense that this would be why when they fused the black star dragon balls would reappear, because theyre technically still the nameless namekian he just has a more warrier like base form.

Idk I don’t think it’s that complicated. There’s a reason piccolo begins to refer to himself as the Namekian who forget his name.. The Nameless Namekian. Which means he’s back to his original self. And it explains why the earths balls turned into stone after the fusion of Kami and piccolo because Kami Created them separately after the split. But the Black Star balls activated when they re-emerged because it was as created by the Nameless Namekian before the split. It makes sense to me. Kami didn’t mention it because it was stone. And possibly, the Nameless Namekian or Piccolo merged with Kami either totally forgot these were created hundreds of years ago even before piccolo existed, or he just never thought anyone would just so happen to snoop around his lookout and find them in a hidden jar. I think it’s a decent retcon that doesn’t contradict the former. It just explains what hasn’t been explained beforehand. Retcon become bad when it totally uproot the storyline that people are familiar with. And that’s my issue with Super.
That, and Piccolo forgets what powers he has like every other week lol.
GT is the true conclusion. If you've watched Dragon Ball all the way from the beginning before watching GT, GT respects you, whereas if you'd been watching Dragon Ball all the way from the beginning before watching Super, Super insults you.

There are other issues, like: How did Pilaf find out about them? Who was ever up at the Lookout to learn the Black Stars existed and where they were kept? How many people actually knew that there was a Nameless Namekian who split? While filler, Kami and Popo were once nearly devoured by past Guardian Spirits in the area where the Black Stars were kept, so how did Pilaf breach that with no hauntings? How did anyone learn that they blow up a planet they are used on? Ancient Earth had no or limited spaceflight, so gathering them back after a wish would have been iffy without divine help. Why didn't Demon King Piccolo recall them when Pilaf mentioned them after he was freed? Why did no one detect them when searching for other Dragonballs? These things aren't just a retcon, they are a nest of plotholes.
While the existence of the blackstar dragon balls is a slight retcon, I think the main cast encountering characters that are way more powerful than Frieza is a bigger one. If Frieza traveled around space for years, and had his army scatter and conquer planets and such...how has no one ever found planet M2? I get that the galaxy is a big place, but when you have hundreds of soldiers going around getting planets ready for the planet-broker thing for who knows how long, it seems like M2 should have been found.
Planet M2 could easily have stayed under the radar. Before Freeza's demise, they could have easily been weaker than Freeza. (Using the Japanese dates, as funimation added an extra 5 years) Once Freeza died in age 764, Planet M2 had 25 years to grow in strength, as that took place in Age 789.
@@dreamcream3738 You're missing the point. Frieza isn't the only person to conquer. His father did it too, and probably HIS father, so on and so forth. That, and we don't know how long King Cold ruled for. It could be a few years, could have been hundreds. I'm just saying with the constant recruitment and information from multiple resources, it seems so very unlikely that M2 flew under the radar for so long.

Were the black star dragon balls temporarily destroyed, when Kid Buu destroyed the earth? I don't know whether this would be a problem, but it seems worth exploring a bit as well.

My personal opinion the dragons should of been the one and only villain in GT 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️baby was …. Decent but other then design if people are honest he wasn’t a good villain he was essentially majin buu to a lesser degree . Stretching out and showing how being to dependent on the dragon balls can backfire was a great concept like supremely great I don’t think people understand how that was genius like from day one they spammed dragon balls instead of letting consequences actually be consequences.
Dragon Ball GT would’ve made more sense if Uub was the main character as the End of Z was hyping uub up as the next Goku. It should’ve been Uub, Pan, Trunks, Goten and Bra looking for the Black Star dragon balls in space. We could’ve gotten Adult Gotenks and maybe a Pan / Bra fusion.
Hopefully they redo it with those characters and they add kriller daughter who should be stronger then krillen do to android 18
I think the biggest retcon is the galaxy being FULL of characters way stronger than frieza. The strongest characters they would've been encountering should be Nail level.
in the movies their were characters stronger than freiza. The only person to hype freiza up was vegeta and king kai
Yeah but remember GT follows movies and filler arcs in Z as well as the anime continuity. In other world, there were beings far stronger than Frieza. Pikkon for example.
I mean it had been like 20-30 years since he was killed right? On earth alone a single scientist managed to make at least 5 machines that would have bodied frieza. Really not that big a retcon considering the time span.

How many people stronger than Freeza do we know about in GT who would've been active the same time as Freeza. Ledgic is the only one that necessarily has to be. Luud is just a statue at the time and none of Luud's acolytes are super strong. General Rilldo and his force may not even have existed 25 years ago, no idea how long Dr Myuu's been at his projects.
I think Ledgic is the only very likely case of a character who'd be active at the time of Freeza and stronger than he is and he's basically a mercenary gun for hire, not a would be conqueror.

While I agree their inclusion in Z would make things simpler, there’s really only 2 applicable arcs. Cell and Buu.
Cell saga it would’ve been a good backup if Cell killed all the Z fighters, but they had the regular Dragon Balls and Namek’s if more wishes were needed.
Buu Saga, I’m not actually sure if they could have made the situation better. They got all the Dragon Balls and Namek’s by the end of the arc. The Black Star balls probably couldn’t do anything to Buu.
As for why Kami didn’t deactivate them, he literally couldn’t. The Black Star Dragon Balls only came about once Piccolo fused with Kami. Piccolo is known to be lacking in Namekian magic, so he couldn’t do it. Even if he became the nameless Namekian “who forgot his name” and had that magic, he could have “forgot to turn off the dragon balls.”
As for it never being mentioned before now, it could have been…. Exclusively in the 7 year time gap from Cell to Buu.
while I dont mind GT as much as others I never got Black Star Balls and they were poorly 'fit in'
What I'd love to know is if u took all 7 dragonballs into space and then summoned shenron, would dragonballs go back to earth or will they go throughout space?

I think the black star balls could make sense. If the original nameless namekian made them, Kami might have been unable to deactivate them because he is not the owner, the rights were never transferred and he is weaker than the original one. And when Piccolo merges with Kami he is not the same Piccolo who was once part of Kami so they might still not count as the owner thus it was only possible to stash them away.
Even if I'm wrong I really like how GT at least tries to tie its new stuff into the actual lore, unlike a certain Super we should not even mention here.
Honestly at that point since Kami and Piccolo un-fused literally hundreds of years ago maybe he just forgot about them (Especially since they would have been stone for the majority of Dragon Ball).

I like to think that DBgt is just a new timeline and still is canon in its own away similar to one of the timelines future trunks came from only difference is Beerus didn’t wake up.
@@deckzone3000 Some fans are so nit picky over canon. Manga canon = Manga Canon, Anime Canon = Anime Canon. GT was made by Toei same who did DB and DBZ. So in the Toei Timeline…..it’s A canon timeline. I agree Beerus waking up is where the timeline split. Plus Super had been using things that are clearly copies from GT. Super which originally was an anime first, then manga. A manga that changes things enough to be its own canon now…..canon to the previous manga of DB. I love Dragon Ball and yeah there a lot of inconsistencies even within “canon” so with multiverse and timelines easier to just view it as that.

Movies can be seen as moments that cause a new timeline in the anime. Say Deadzone. Garlic JR isn’t canon to the manga but is to the anime. Which means Deadzone has to be canon. Not to big of issues that can’t be hand waved. But now say Fusion Reborn is a timeline where Vegeta killed Buu. That’s it. There could be a timeline where movie stuff did happen but weaved in better. Time echos. Lord Slug happened just not the same as the movie because that movie is what would’ve happened if Frieza was defeated by the Spirit Bomb. But who’s to say that story didn’t happen in the three years? Hell when the creator say’s everything is just DragonBall I take that as everything is canon. Except DBE….. that weird DB/DBZ/Saiyaman Saga movie is bad in universe movie made by Director Red and Assistant Director Black haha

No, you might be mixing up two different GT story arcs. The first GT story arc is about the black star dragon balls, a distinct set of dragon balls. The *final* GT story arc, later on, is about the ordinary set of earth's dragon balls becoming corrupted over time due to being used too much.

This may sound dum but honestly if they were trying to mimic the dragon balls but wanted to use demon negative energy they could have done that possibly demon piccolo created them but with the negative effect it brings it cant be searched on the dragon radar or could have introduced it better than locked away
Dragon Ball GT was always underrated. As much as I like Dragon Ball super, I definitely wouldn't mind watching Dragon Ball GT instead

Here's a problem I have with the Black Star Dragonballs themselves. Mainly actually the first arc. Here I'll just put a step by step of how things should have went if they used their brains.
Step 1.) The story happens as normal Goku becomes a kid, the black star dragonballs yeet themselves through out the universe.
Step 2.) King Kai tells them that Earth will explode in 1 year if the Black Star Dragonballs aren't gathered.
Step 3.) The group uses the Dragon Balls to wish for all 7 Black Star Dragonballs
Step 3a.) If Step 3 can't be done why not then just wish for Earth to be immune to being destroyed?
Step 3b.) Just let it happen and use the Namekian Dragonballs to bring Earth back and then revive people.
I can tell you that as a GT fan that retcon truly bothered me. If only they have mentioned the existence of another dragon balls set it would have made some sense. Also I think Goku should have traveled to space with Bejita. Giving him kids to join I don't think it's amazing idea because it put them in risk. As for people who say GT isn't canon I say- So what? Is that a reason to hate on it? You can still acknowledge GT isn't canon and be a fan of it like me. I ask them simple question- Leave aside the fact that it isn't canon. Do you like the show or not? I bet you most of them didn't even watch the show to begin with.
Why do people say it isn't canon? I'm pretty sure toriyama said it is and just occurs within a different reality/timeline. And we've seen crossovers of the gt characters with z and super. It might be heroes but it further solidifies the idea of different continuities
I always wonder more about the Black Star Dragon Balls and Dark Dragon Balls too.. I could see these sets being brought back into Dragon Ball Super.. But how will they do it now 🤔
They will probably take the ideas from Gt and Rework into a new story, I for one would love to see reworked shadow dragons.
People defending the validity of black star dragon balls... Even if it's true that their existence is not completely impossible in the canon, their power certainly is. It being able to mess with post buu arc Goku's strength when the original dragon balls couldn't even kill Vegeta and Nappa from saiyan arc... Not only that, it being able to destroy the planet the wish was made in even in the past, in the times of the original nameless namekian that no way in hell had a power level over even 1000, maybe not even 500... This is relevant because the wishes granted can't require power greater than the balls creator, so to accept that this set existed all along is the same as accepting that the nameless namekian could destroy the earth and that GT Piccollo can subdue GT Goku. If you think that wishing to kill someone is not comparable to wishing to turn someone into a kid then I must ask why they didn't wish for Vegeta and Nappa to turn into kids in the saiyan saga
Imagine in Super Vegeta splitting Kami and Nail from Piccolo but in that instance Kami could be made youthful by Dende's Dragonballs but when re-fusing with Piccolo how much more power does piccolo obtain?

I enjoyed Dragon Ball GT
I feel like there's a really easy way to make this fit.
The nameless Namekian designed the black star balls before the classic dragon balls. He got a little too ambitious and made balls that were super powerful, but had an absurd drawback. Since they were so dangerous, he opted to never use them, since blowing up the planet you live on isn't a good idea. That said, you're not going to throw away such a sacred item. He kept it as a last resort.
Since Piccolo and Kami are so smart, it stands to reason, that the nameless Namekian would have the foresight to document his creation in some way. This is how Pilaf's "research" uncovered the balls. That said, Pilaf is a greedy guy, so he never looked into the fine print.
So why did the black star balls never get mentioned? They were never a viable option. At no point in the series was blowing up earth a viable tradeoff for solving a problem that the dragon balls couldn't. GT even has a line where they mention that a "stronger wish" isn't very useful since the regular dragon balls cover most practical wishes.
The only real retcon is Ultimate Shenron's absurd strength, but that really doesn't affect the story.
So how were they reactivated?

The negative energy of the black star dragon balls could have originated from the spirit that would eventually become Piccolo Daimao, before separating the nameless namekian was tasked from previous guardian of earth to vanquish any evil inside of him. Kami would then be able to create a pure set of dragon balls individually & become guardian of the earth.
Yeah which is probably why it was reckless made like that.

After using the black star dragon balls I would just let the earth explode and just wish it back with the earth ones on another planet like the world of the Kai's. That way they just stay scattered across the galaxy, they are way too dangerous to just leave around.

The biggest retcon in Dragonball is Dragonball Super existing. In short, REMOVING POWERLEVELS. Powerlevels were integral to DB and DBZ (contrary to popular belief)
Frieza, 17, and fuckin MASTER ROSHI being relevant in Super is indicative of traditional powerlevel scaling being replaced with Western Comic Book Scaling aka "whoever we feel like winning will win"
Power Levels were removed in DBZ, and characters received bullshit power ups long before Super (Goku drinking some water to get stronger, despite being told in a previous arc that that wouldn't work, Great Ape, Saiyans getting stronger after near death, which was never before mentiond, etc.)

Ki made you bullet proof (Goku Black being threatened by a gun is LAUGHABLE). Also strength=speed in DBZ so characters like that Rabbit Guy from Jiren's squad couldn't exist in Z (as proof of Burter being slower than Cpt Ginyu, Goku, amd everyone stronger than him)
Super follows comic book logic where anyone can beat anyone. There are no rules in super. Master Roshi was literally irrelevant for all of Z so him being able to fight in a tournament where the character are supposed to be the strongest in their universe COULDNT HAPPEN IN Z

Honestly Dragon ball GT is my favorite because despite certain things not being ideal the Story of dragon ball GT is super good. Also best dragon ball movie hands down in my opinion the Dragon ball GT movie with Goku JR. The movie has such good morals and such a heartwarming story. It changed my life.
The concepts are cool but the story is trash. Like super saiyan 4. Really cool idea. Poorly executed. Came out of nowhere with no explanation for how they knew it existed. Super 17. Cool idea. Massive plot hole.

Now, you say in your video that the reason that the black star dragon balls are a retcon, is because they are never once mentioned in previous works, and later go on to say that retcons can extend to being new elements of a story that are thematically dissonant. I don't see how the black star dragon balls even fulfill that criteria. You only say that they weren't present in the original narrative, which if you were to define a retcon by that criteria, it would technically classify essentially all new story elements of any story as retcons. You're using too broad a definition for "retcon", and I semantically disagree that the black star balls are a retcon.
GT is still very good and I actually love it’s characters however another retcon here we go

GT was actually good. Took Dragon Ball back to it's roots and made it a galactic adventure hunting for the dragon balls. It also gave us SSJ4, one of THE, if not the coolest transformations. It also taught us a lesson about abusing the dragon balls for frivolous wishes. I think it was a breath of fresh air and a good idea to explore 7 new planets, besides Earth and Namek. Then it got down to business after introducing Baby and his fued with the sayiajin race that decimated his planet. Super17 arc was also interesting and it was rumored to introduce SSJ4 Vegeta at one point, but it was moved to the Evil Dragons arc, which worked best. And it was more dramatic, pretty much like the entire ending, which tied all stories and felt complete.
I thought king piccolo made the black star dragonballs after kami made the regular ones? Not their merged form. Kind of useless though, just a plot device to make goku a kid, and give a reason for them to travel the galaxy. Would have made more sense to make the regular balls turn into the black star balls and have the galaxy scattering world destroying side effect be tied to the eventual shadow dragons.

I hate to use the term "canon" because it's not a term that Japanese are familiar with or they never even utilize that term ever! That term was created by the western audience, some sort of cheap slang. But dragonball GT is part of the continuity and I personally believe it will be recreated as an arc in dragon ball super or dragon ball new title
So why does the marketing for DBS nail "canon" into your head? Why does Toriyama talk about the movies as side stories that don't fit?

@Mr. Pebbles Akira toriyama said side stories because that's what they are. The purpose of the movies was to fill in time between the "filler arcs" and the main story. Some of the "filler arcs" doesn't engage with the audiences because of the lack of actions and tension, so by created movies they give the audience both action and tension when there is not much going on with the anime. Akira toriyama expressed his involvement with those movies but he wasn't in charge of those movies.

For an example if you fighting a war and the general gives you specific instructions to relay the message to an ally location across enemy territory, and on your journey you discovered an innocent bystander that's dehydrated so you decided to give her some of your water and rations to save her.
That situation does not mean it's not a part of the continuity, you sound ridiculous. A side story is a side story. A side story does not mean "not canon"
