My father was a strict parent, and he scared me in many ways. One of the things that he said to me when I was 14 that actually sent shivers down my spine was, "If you get arrested and the police bring you home, I will deny knowing who you are, and you will be their problem to deal with as they choose." Of course, had that happened he would not have gone through with it, I know that now. Then, though, that scared the hell out of me, despite being too proud to show it to him. I never once was taken home by the police to test the theory, and I think that's the moral of the story here. How many parents today would even consider saying something like this to one of their children?

I have always admired this woman and her plain approach to morality and ethics. It seems something that should be obvious is now a radical idea, and the results are now being displayed in every aspect of society. I have often made the remark that Judge Judy Sheindlin should be touring junior/senior high schools and college campuses with her simple moral message to young people. If there were a first woman president I sincerely hope that it would be Judy Sheindlin, or someone like her.
I love judge Judy, mostly because of her being completely uninterested in race and background. If you do a crime you should be punished only based on the crime. One thing I do disagree with her on though is feeling sorry for them. If someone has been growing up under terrible conditions and does a crime I think, especially as a judge, you cannot make the punishment less(maybe that is why she doesn't), but I do feel sorry for what happened to them earlier in life and I think it is not fair. But you do have a choice. If you've been treated badly you have the choice of growing out of that and being a better person, your past may have effected your current actions, but it doesn't justify it.

Make it harsh..... but no they can't afford to pay for their stay at a prison.... cost too much. So what.... can't afford it then execution is good. Then people will not commit much crime. Shoot someone..... then we chain them up and shoot them back in the same spot or higher lol. Then maybe we just beat them when they have beaten someone.

She is right that you don't ask for the best black president or the best hispanic heart surgeon or the best minority child care giver to mind your kids. You will know the world has gotten over this whole thing when everyone just asks for the best. It's when we stop even noticing colour, race or religion that we know we have arrived. And I think religious intolerance is probably the most difficult and the last bastion of division that has to fall.

And GLORY Hallelujah on the crime and punishment. Kicking an elderly man, who was doing his gardening is unacceptable and such actions should be punished.. Actions /crimes should have consequences. The problem is, we don't punish crime anymore.
