Most won't sue unless it is a high dollar amount over 10K or 15K. It usually isn't even the credit card company they just write it off and report it as income to the IRS but companies buy these debts for pennies on the dollar and then sue.

She was let go from her job at age 70, and she had credit card debt and has been constantly worried about lawsuits and garmishments....I plan to show her this video. Thanks!
That's true! Remember you can request a copy of your credit report from the three agencies. You can dispute any thing on your report/s. Having those debts removed can even raise your credit score.
The tricky bit, is getting accurate records copies from providers. ESPECIALLY if you entered the care system via the emergency room. One must literally request an itemized billing--most never give you those. THEN, you need to scrutinize the billings, and QUESTION any items you think don't belong. That might need sitting with a hospital social worker or nurse or billing office, to explain the items on the bill to you. THEN you have to fill out a form to contest the wrong items, and request they be removed. Pitfalls of this: The providers KNOW they can easily buffalo patients and their families. It happens ALL THE TIME, pretty much everywhere I've ever worked, in 2 States, and heard plenty from others who've worked in other States. --> OFTEN, records are lies, both flagrant and of omission....not only of what was done, but what supplies got charged to your bill. --> WORSE...if you experience an adverse reaction to any treatment, those are mostly NOT charted, UNLESS they cannot avoid it. Most patients and their families are CLUELESS of adverse reactions. Most, IF they are charted, are made to appear as entirely different "problems", given Diagnosis Codes making SYMPTOMS into stand-alone diagnoses of their own--which is very wrong---but that is one big reason why healthcare has become so derailed from healing. That applies to at least the last 40 years of vaccine adverse reactions, drug or other treatment reactions whether in or out of a hospital or office. Then there's all that split billing from individual providers. [lost typing due to gargle glitch] The USA is one of THE MOST COSTLY countries to live in, specifically for health care of any kind. Medicines, surgeries, treatments, everything, is charged at the highest prices. INSURANCE industries and PHARMA industries, have made the US healthcare system what it is: extremely, unrealistically costly, and, got laws passed long ago, limiting Docs to only diagnosing, not curing. No one can legally claim they have cured anything. Docs are legally restricted to use only "poison, cut, burn" [drugs, surgery, radiation]. The reference books for Diagnoses codes, and for drugs, have grown exponentially in size, more because Pharma has made a huge business of reinventing thousands of Symptoms, into stand-alone "Disease", because they have invented drugs for those. And medical devices. etc. The feedback loops that determine how much, and when, prices get raised, is truly Machiavellian. Kinda like Tax laws.

After a terrible 2022, shell-shocked financial backers have a lot to think about and losses to recover from. An expansion report and a wealth of other data did little to alter assumptions that the Central bank would likely keep raising interest rates regardless of whether the economy slows down. This implies that portfolios will experience more losses during the first quarter of 2023. I'm currently at a crossroads deciding whether to exchange my $250k security/stock portfolio; how might the continuous market volatility work to my advantage?
@wilsonkelvin2531 In fact, ever since Coronavirus, I've been in regular communication with financial examiners. Nowadays, buying moving stocks is quite easy; the trick is knowing when to buy and when to sell. Sad that she didn't know that. The working class is trained to do what the rich know not to do. The Bible says that after death all debts are paid. Slavery says otherwise.

if you reply to a debt collector, whether or not the debt has been sold to someone else, DON'T REPLY TO IT...THIS STARTS THE TIME LIMIT (or something) ALL OVER AGAIN. DO NOT REPLY CALL, TRY TO BE NICE & say you'll try to pay $X....have NO CONTACT with them!!!!
not quite correct. if you do not or can not pay a bill, credit card... the credit card company is obligated by law to charge off the account after 180 days soooo you may after this time receive a statement from a "collector"... do you have a contract with the "collector" NO YOU DO NOT. but you must reply within 30 days so...YOU MUST NOT PAY ONE CENT but contact your attorney who you will NOT have to pay...If the collector calls and want you to pay just tell them: I WILL DEAL WITH THIS BUT IN WRITING ONLY. THEN CONTACT AN ATTORNEY WHO DEALS WITH COLLECTORS... YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID.

I just stopped paying and when the debt collectors called, I told them "I'm 64 and I don't have to pay you. Don't ever call me again" They never did.
I had a phone call from a debt collector that said that they were suing me for a debt that is 13 years old from Wells Fargo, which I was banking with them since 2005. They scared me saying they were going to levy my account. I changed banks and then found out that he was just scaring me. I am so glad I found this information. Thank You 🙏
They need to make a law that collection agencies can’t sell your account. I have credited card companies sending nasty letters to get me to pay for my deceased father’s credit cards. Fortunately I know I’m not responsible. My Dad had no estate, he lived me, and no will and no executor. I received a small Life Insurance policy that paid for funeral expenses. They can’t take Life Insurance monies. So they’re sucking air and I file 13 all their corespondents.
If what U're already doing is working, then U may not need this suggestion. I simply put the funeral parlor prayer card in the env. W the statement stub n mailed it back with only serving as the necessary explanation of no payment submitted n I never heard from them again. Good luck n God bless
@@karenraynor8562 I have actually spoken with them on the phone and sent them copies of his death certificate. It’s a tactic that they use to try to scare family into paying for their deceased parent’s debts. Not to worry it’s a waste of time on me. Like I said I file 13 everything they send. I suspect they will eventually stop sending. They even tried to say they could take “the” house to assume it was my Dad’s. No it’s my house in my name and they can’t touch it. It’s just very sad that there is so much dishonesty out there and there are some people that they can scare and intimidate into giving them money. Money that is legally not theirs.
@@marthasavage4129 check your state laws and an attorney... if those letters are from creditors DEMANDING that YOU make payment upon your deceased fathers unsecure debt.... you might be able to sue them.

The USA is one of THE MOST COSTLY countries to live in, specifically for health care of any kind. Medicines, surgeries, treatments, everything, is charged at the highest prices.
INSURANCE industries and PHARMA industries, have made the US healthcare system what it is: extremely, unrealistically costly, and,
got laws passed long ago, limiting Docs to only diagnosing, not curing.
Yeah those medical fockers gouge you and then want the bill paid yesterday :(
That is the main thing us oldies get
I paid off the overbearing medical charges, but still have student loan debt. BOTH of which were ridiculous.

Hi I have been registered with Helps for atleast 2 years. I am not a senior citizen but I am disable...they helped me stop a garnishment from my school loans. They also helped me with my IRS problems. I was very pleased with their program. This company is very knowledgeable & there customer service is excellent & they return calls & follow up the same day/the next day. This is a real testimony 😊. I would refer anybody to the Helos organization. I was able to keep a piece of mind through challenging times
They helped you with the IRS?
As far as student loan debt, i had most of mine WAIVED due to disability. FYI. I fought for 5 long yrs. But it finally happened. It pays to question everything! I ask an abundance of questions .
@@jewels7139 yes Julie. Helps actually helped me apply for Non collectible status...I believe it's also called the 53 status. They did a conference called & notified IRS that they will be representing me...After that helps gave ne information on filing for a medical discharge. The school loan was waived & I was placed in non collectible status. Helps assistamce made me stop living in fear😊. I eventually was Brave enough to fill out the forms for a offer in compromise & I am presently waiting for a answer. IRS said to expect a decision around Feb 2. Helos Org ... actually took a tremendous amount of stress off my shoulder & made me tackle my fears. I just want to add on...I filled out the offer in compromise forms myself & irs walk me through the process. Thank you for your information on the Senior Law!!! Have a blessed night because you deserve it!!!
Just found your Chanel. My 82 yr old mother lives with my sister who cares for her. I take care of her finances. She literally lives on a social security check. Most of her expenses are medical related. She was so close to being denied chemo a couple years ago. She makes about $100 dollars too much to qualify for the states Medicaid as a secondary insurance. She has had several falls, broken bones, surgery and therapy. Therapy a couple times a week is so expensive. I do pay her medical portion but this is good information to know . Thank you.
In California; If you're debt is over 4 years from last payment, that debt becomes "time-barred" - judgment proof. What a relief.
Most debt collectors illegally just re-age their begin date to keep it on your credit report way past 7 years. Child support will garnish re arrearages, too, if you're SSDI.

So relieved with this video. Learned a lot. Thank you both for advocating seniors with their financial problems. Excellent and educational.
The section and leave orders for my portfolio are made by my counsel. accumulated more than $550,000 from a $150,000 savings that was initially stale.

Can credit card companies get there money from your spouse when you die. Spouse would be on social security and pension.
If the card is only in the name of one spouse it is not the practice of credit card companies to attempt to collect from the other or surviving spouse even in community property states. Eric Olsen Executive Director HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm
No. Personal debt is..."PERSONAL".
When the person is gone , the debt is gone.
Collectors will lie to you. They do not want you to know this fact.
@@ericolsen2141 what if I die and my kids are the inheritors of my estate? Will they have to pay my balances on my credit cards since their name is not on the credit card account?
My mom died a few years back and she had a small balance on a credit card. My sister contacted the company to pay it off and the CSR said “she is dead. Why do you want to pay this?”
Sad that she didn't know that. The working class is trained to do what the rich know not to do. The Bible says that after death all debts are paid. Slavery says otherwise.

I wasn't aware of this until I saw this video! Do they have similar rights to prevent losing a home for non-payment of property tax? If not, that needs to be protected as well. I am deathly afraid of losing my home for that reason. I struggle to survive on a limited income.
States have different laws regarding property taxes. There may be options depending where you live. You can call HELPS with questions

Love your info. Info is everything for all of us. Changes in age is a missing commodity. Thanks
if you reply to a debt collector, whether or not the debt has been sold to someone else, DON'T REPLY TO IT...THIS STARTS THE TIME LIMIT (or something) ALL OVER AGAIN.
And whatever debt collector has your debt. You did not sign a contract with them.

In my state, it is UNLAWFUL for a creditor to go after OTHERS for a debt... and if they send letters, telephone calls and the Like demanding payment, we can SUE them in our state.
If memory serves me correctly, in my state, they are also fined $7,000.00 by the state attorney general for each contact/demand of payment...
One of the nations biggest cases against such unethical credit collections was won in my state... making the poor family very wealthy...

The IRS and Public Student loans can offset 15% of SS. However almost lower-income seniors can obtain non-collectible now status with the IRS and pay nothing. The same with student loans but that is called income-based repayment which is most often zero dollars per month. HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm assists seniors with this every day,.
