    And Godzilla has some GREAT close-combat moves. Head-slam into the ground. Tail-swipe to knock his opponent's legs out. Grappling, stomping when the foe's down, biting off heads.

    Just saw the movie a few hours ago and thought it was GREAT. I'd consider myself a slightly more than casual fan of big monster and robot type of entertainment (grew up watching Voltron, Transformers, Macross, MMPR, and a handful of the early Godzilla movies etc.), but finding out how much more fan service was in this movie than what I caught makes me wish I knew a lot more about the Godzilla lore, because I could have enjoyed it that much more. Also, I loved the original theme inspired music in this movie.

    • @faz6877
      @faz6877 5 лет назад

      I see so many people getting angry at anyone who didn't enjoy the movie. I'm happy people enjoyed it, and not going to argue over someone's opinion. But I see so many people praising the movie because it had exactly what they wanted - monster on monster action (which is great). That's awesome for those people who only need that one element to enjoy a movie. But there are a lot of people who enjoy character development and plot, rather than action sequences. I'm not going to tell anyone else what their criteria should be for a movie, but don't understand why people have to disregard any element that isn't action and be forced to love the movie. And just because it had effective action must disregard any other problems they may have with the movie. Personally I need a combination of effective story telling and action. I want a balance of the two. I don't understand why people have to throw their appreciation for plot and character development out the window just because it's a Godzilla movie. I love gory movies. But I'm not going to bash someone who doesn't appreciate over the top blood and violence.
      And when you say give a bad rating based on exposition scenes and disregard the fight sequences, by that logic we should be calling the critics out for hating the Transformers movies as well.

    One thing you didn't seem to mention was Godzilla employing strategy against Ghidorah; first two encounters; he targets the lazy head first. Later, he tries to, and successfully, drags Ghidorah under water to have an advantage.
    The final attack between Godzilla and Ghidorah, isn't new; it is called the 'Red Spiral Ray,' (the American version); a 'recent' ability Godzilla got in 1993, and is usually his finisher.
    The special thing about Mothra, from her own movie franchise (or her son's...) is she is the only monster who could defeat Ghidorah unassisted, and she did it five times at this point; this movie is the only time Godzilla beat Ghidorah without help.

    First off, glad to hear you enjoyed the movie! Secondly, regarding the nuclear explosions used to kill Ghidorah, that is actually a legit power that was introduced in the 90's era of Godzilla films. It has shown up a few times in the Japanese films since, but it's actually one of Godzilla's powers that few people outside the hardcore fans know of, so its totally understandable that it seemed a bit out of nowhere at the end! The finale was essentially an homage to Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995) which had a burning form of Godzilla that was dying and on the verge of going nuclear because he absorbed too much radiation. The burning Godzilla we got in this film was essentially the same thing, minus Godzilla dying from it though.

    Vera Farmiga is, like, my favorite actress ever since Bates Motel. She is SO GOOD in Bates Motel, like unbelievably so, and I swear she does not get the credit she deserves for her character acting. The fact that her character, as you said, only lost her way and that she wasn't a take-over-the-world villain was so satisfying for me because I knew Vera had more to offer. Also, this movie was insane in the absolute best way.

      I liked her in Up in the Air, though by like her I also mean hate her character - she was a pretty horrible person, and Farmiga sold that very well.
