    S/812 takes REL’s medium chassis concept to reference-like levels of performance and does so with style, beauty and devastating power. It delivers incredible levels of all ‘round performance for both music and film sound, gives customers a taste of what our reference models offer, and does so at a fraction of the cost.
    For S/812, every aspect of the previous generation’s inner workings were examined without regard to its critical and customer-driven success. We turned a fresh eye to power requirements, driver improvements, and specialty filters, upgrading each to extract all the extra performance possible. All this alongside the cabinet refinements necessary for those upgrades to emerge cleanly. This latest S range is a triumphant development that has exceeded every expectation of our design team.
    Our requirements were for far stronger deep bass output between 19-35 Hz, vastly improved theatre dynamics, and an even more open and spacious soundfield which benefits both music and film. We turned to our NextGen5 amplifier, tuned to 800 watts, with huge reserves of power beyond this, added a light film of carbon fibre to the rear of the driver to handle the extra power, and developed two new sets of custom filters to extract the utmost in brute force and spaciousness. Finally, we imbued 812 with the ability to be stacked in 4- or 6-unit line arrays, just like our reference models.
    S/812 required upgrades to its ContinuousCast™ Alloy Cone to allow it to survive the massive power upgrades. To permit its thin, aluminum cone to survive 800 watts and incredibly long stroke, we added an ultra-lightweight backing of pure carbon fibre, strategically placed over portions of the rear surface of the cone. This produces two benefits; it strengthens and stiffens the cone and also eliminates reversion, wherein the backwave inside the cabinet is now prevented from interfering with the main launch of bass into the room. The result is more accurate and far louder deep bass.
    Our uniquely tuned passive radiators use special suspensions, now with an additional 30mm of linear travel, to produce performance far beyond conventional subwoofers. Our new SuperProgressive™ passive radiator producesextremely long travel allowing for very loud outputwhile retaining the variable stiffness of its suspension. This allows it to act like a sealed box compact 12” design at low volume and a high output 14” design at its limit.
    At 800 watts the NextGen5 amplifier is borrowed from our reference models and rocks huge reservoirs of power and current. The 45% increase in power (previous version was 500 watts) is needed to deliver both the profound output levels needed for modern theatre, as well as to produce the deepest bass in a high end 2-channel system. This increase in power is necessitated by our development on the musical front of an all-new circuit termed PerfectFilter™ that balance both frequency extremes.
    PerfectFilter performs two seemingly disparate qualities; extending the strong, even response of the extreme low end of bass frequencies while simultaneously opening up air and delicacy in the middle and high frequencies of one’s system. Additionally, we applied customized PureTheatre™ filters to allow S/812 to deliver the most awe-inspiring theatre effects ever offered in a classic REL.
    In the real world, bass occurs with width, depth and height. By stacking up to three units per side (stereo or theatre main L-R speakers) the proper perspective and height of sonic events are illuminated. This elevates reproduction from conventional stereo or theatre to a floor-to-ceiling panoramic, full scale perspective of each sonic event. Reviewers are lining up to marvel at the transformation of music and film into the full-scale representation that REL Line Arrays uniquely deliver.

    My NEXT purchase!!! I've recently heard the S 812 six pack. Words can't describe. I'm only going to do two. Can not wait!!! Just bought my first Rel to replace an SVS 20-39 pci sub. Impressed. I'm a music guy. My system is 50% music / 50% theater. The musical S 812 is gonna replace the rest of my SVS subs.

      The 6-pack line array is very impressive sounding, though starting with a stereo pair is an excellent option. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about setting up or tuning your stereo pair of subwoofers.

    For those of us who want something a bit more discreet in our living area, a matt black finish would be very welcome! I know one or two of your other subs do have a matt finish, but not at this spec level.

    Hello REL would your subwoofers work with a pair of KEF LS50 wireless ? They don't have hight level connection only LFE output, I'm not into home theatre

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  4 года назад

      Our subwoofers can connect and pair very well with KEF LS50 wireless speakers. For these speakers, we recommend connecting the subwoofer output of the speakers to the low level input on the REL. Another video from our channel goes into further detail regarding this connection method: ruclips.net/video/5Lqrrvh64lg/видео.html

    I wonder if the Rel could compete with a JL Audio F112/F113 V2. Rel and JL Audio both share the passion which I like. With compete I mean the integration, (blending) and disappearing with the other speakers. Low distortion bass.

      Our focus when designing subwoofers is to deliver sub-bass output that blends seamlessly with your main loudspeakers, while also being able to play loud and reach deep in their low-frequency extension. If you have any questions about our subwoofer models, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to help.

    Would you recommend one no.25 sub or a pair 412se subs for a 22’x42’ room in a basement? My setup is Infinity IRS Beta Speakers and 4 monoblock amps. Thanks

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  4 года назад +3

      Since you are running monoblocks it is important to use a stereo pair of subwoofers, in order to prevent grounding issues that can lead to future damage. For that reason we recommend the pair of 212/SE of those two options, but feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net for a more detailed product recommendation.

    Musically how would a stacked pair of these compare to a 212/SX? Seems like a very similar configuration?
    I am looking to just fill in the bottom end of my pair of LaScala II. They just don’t have that ultra low octave range.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 года назад

      The 212/SX is capable of delivering performance close to that of an S/812 line array, though with the line array you will be able to independently tune each subwoofer in the stack, resulting in improved blending with your main loudspeakers. If you have any questions regarding which subwoofers will be the best choice for pairing with your Klipsch LaScalas, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to help.

    Does a passive radiator add more bass?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  4 года назад +2

      The passive radiator works in tandem with the active driver, and in effect increases the driver surface area of the subwoofer. This allows the subwoofer to produce deeper and fuller output at it's lowest frequency extension.

      The S/812 are exceptional subwoofers which function very well for both home theater and 2-channel music listening. The sonic character of it's output is different than that of the HT/1508, though the S/812 is capable of reaching deeper in it's low-frequency extension than the HT/1508.

    Will the S/812 be a staple in the REL line up in the future? I have just bought two of them and wondered if down the track when I want to add another two and then further on add my final two will differences in possible new models make that prohibitive to adding slightly newer models or are they elementarily the same?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Год назад +1

      Thank you for reaching out, and congratulations on your new REL subwoofers! At this time we do not have any plans to replace or update the current Serie S models in our lineup. When stacking subwoofers to form a line array setup it is important to use the same matching model for each unit, meaning that as long as you use S/812s for the remaining subwoofers then they will perform perfectly with your current pair of S/812.

      @@RELAcoustics And when running a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 where the RCA outs go to the S/812's .1/LFE channel on the bottom sub, how do I connect the middle and top subs, so that the Lyngdorf can measure each 3 subs as a whole? What would be the connections and crossovers from the bottom sub to each subsequent one?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Год назад

      @@cr5721 Each S/812 has RCA input and output jacks for the .1/LFE channel, meaning once the bottom subwoofer has been connected to the output on your Lyngdorf processor you will then daisy chain the signal from the bottom sub to the middle unit, and then from the middle unit to the top one.
      In terms of Crossover and Level settings for each S/812, we recommend tuning each subwoofer individually to start and then making final adjustments with all six connected and playing. But i have a question i am kinda new to the rel world the video was good but which high level input should i take the high level in ore the high level out the same goes for fhe lfe.1 channel maybe someone could answer me this question

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you reaching out. If you are connecting from your receiver or amplifier to the subwoofer then you will want to use the input jacks on the REL, since you will want it to receive in signal from the source. The signal output jacks are intended for use when daisy-chaining multiple subwoofers together, for example when stacking multiple RELs in a line array configuration.

While a single subwoofer can deliver exceptional output, the addition of a second S/812 to form a stereo pair will have a significant impact not only on the sub-bass performance of your system, but also in the mids and high frequencies.
