    I prefer the PW4 size, I wish they just kept the size and just make the screen bigger. I love that pw5 is faster and more responsive. It was so hard to zoom in PW4 when reading manga. The usb C is also a plus.

      I just got mine yesterday. It’s really barely even bigger in person. Just enough to make old cases not work. It’s not as intense as the videos or others make it seem.

      It really is not a huge difference, it still fits in my pants pocket with the case on so I can carry it around (men's pants pockets are pretty massive). Everything is better for me so far, from the speed to the USBC. I'll be trying out wireless charging eventually.

    the bigger screen size and contrast change can't be understated enough. it seems like a small change but it's night and day using it. I tend to use bold 1 and font 6 and on the new one there is so much more text on the screen. it's great. love the size of the PW4 but with the better contrast and screen the PW5 is a winner.

    edit: ik this ^ is what i said 3 weeks ago but i got the ppw4 instead. it isnt as slow as i thought it’d be! it’s actually pretty smooth and the screen is crisp and clear. ive been using it daily and i love it so much. the ppw5 is so much more expensive than the ppw4 and considering that it’ll only be my very first kindle, i just went with the ppw4 instead. no regrets!

    Returned my signature edition a few hours ago. I only had it for 3 days and it froze 3x on me. Though I admit, it was faster and I liked how it was easier on my eyes with the warm light. The page turn animation was something I also found cool. But other than that I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. I love my kindle paperwhite 10th gen. I love how smaller it is too.. I thought the upgrade would be worth the 200$ I paid but I was wrong. Ontop of the fact that it froze 3x on me, my signature edition also came with a tiny imperfection on the screen that just buggged tf out me. I small tiny dead pixel on the screen. At the end, I decided I love my paperwhite 10th gen. Love how small and lighter it is. Plus I never had a single issue with it. Never has it once froze on me. I’m definitely sticking with my gen 10.

    And it’s not heavy by much because it’s only they made an half inch difference on the dimension and they used every available space within the tablet to make the screen bigger so you will notice the screen difference good job.

    Nice review -- thanks. I was on the fence, thinking of buying it mostly for the larger screen, but the difference in contrast in dark mode is also really nice. I've always kind of disliked reading on the Kindle, and never realized that poor contrast was part of that. I watched a few other reviews prior to this, and nobody else mentioned it. That and the slowness bothered me, so this new model looks like a winner.
    It looked to me as though even with the warmth set to 0, it's STILL a bit warmer than the older Kindle, which is great.
    About the screen size -- I read somewhere that there is 32% more area in the new Kindle. But of course there is always a margin, so the area devoted to text should actually increase more like 40%. That's so handy when you're looking at code, which is less understandable when wrapped.

      I have been using an Android tablet as a reading device, and it's definitely not a software issue that made me switch reading devices, it's the screen. E-ink screens just smash any LCD in reading. It's not a fair fight really. The only moment the LCD wins is when you need to scroll a lot or with colors, for black and white content there's just not a fight between LCD and e-ink, I think you'll not regret the Paperwhite 5, I'm on that phase of justifying the cost right now since I have a Paperwhite 3 (the 4th was easy to skip bu that 5th model is tempting...).

    • @belowzeros
      @belowzeros 2 года назад +1

      the PW4 is definitely smaller and more comfy I was a long time user. You notice the PW5 at first but you get to used to it. it's only about 20 grams iirc. I find it's not so much the weight as it is the size. I hold it from the bottom and now that it is taller it can be slightly top heavy. The PW4 was more square versus the PW5. My brain is adjusting to it though, it's worth the upgrade.

      If you read every day, accumulated benefit may justify the price (eg. 0.1$ * 1000 days). For me, I bought a 400€ remarkable for learning, and don't regard the price too high, as it helps daily productivity.

    • @JesusSavesSinners
      @JesusSavesSinners 2 года назад +4

      Why do you need color when reading books??? The reason people buy Kindle's is because it is like reading an actual book. Reading books on a phone, on a tablet will cause eye strain because it hurts the eyes to stare at the harsh light on those screens. Also the battery life can not be beat. People who read books are paying a lot more to buy books yearly than the cost of a kindle. So the price is hardly expensive for avid readers.

    The Paparwhite in general is a terrible device. If you’ve been using a modern smartphone or iPad over the last couple of years then you will be shocked at how terrible the OS is, how terrible the user interface is. and AND considering all that how terrible the battery life is, considering how bare bones the OS is the battery should last weeks. There’s no excuse for one of the most successful companies in the world to make such a piece of junk. All that being said it’s still my preferred reading device but only because it’s small, light and I prefer the softer backlight
