    Turn on the page turning animation. It will help to see a page physically move from left to right and vise versa depending whether you go up or down in the book.

    Great review!!! Very relatable. Switching from books to kindle was super tough for me as well but I don't regret it.... maintaining physical books is a huge hassle and now I am a huge kindle fan. Bought this new paperwhite and it's coming tomorrow.... super excited. My 7 yr old paperwhite's display started ghosting somewhat. Buying the signature edition made absolutely no sense to me as none of my other devices r wireless charging capable and it made no sense dishing out 60$ for auto brightness....

    love this review where the perspective is really coming from a reader and not a tech geek. your biases are more for a good reading experience rather than someone who wants to just have new gadgets and honestly I want to use the kindle for the reading experience not really for content creation/note taking. so thanks for this!

    Thanks for the review, nice to finally see a review that is by someone that actuallly reads books rather then just a tech reviewer. I am still undecided about upgrading, I would like the warm light.
    I did see in another review you can have a page turn animation, not sure if this is new ?? maybe that will help with the issue you have with the new kindle.

      Thank you I thought that it would help some people. I have seen the page turn animation but have yet to figure out how to turn it on. Looking it up right after this! I do like the warm light a lot. At first I didn’t think I would care about it but it does make a difference in my opinion. I really like the new one I’ve been reading on it for a while today. However if your not wanting to pay for the new one the older kindle paperwhites are definitely worth it! I hope this helped a bit.

    I too have an older paperwhite kindle, and the only feature I miss that the 11th gen paperwhite has is the warm light. But I fixed this easily and cheaply by getting a clip on blue light filter that clips on to my glasses when I read at night. Problem solved. I do not need a bulky kindle.

  • @fduniho
    @fduniho 2 года назад +7

    I have both, and I like the new one a lot more. The 2018 version never really displaced my Likebook Mars, but the 2021 version has now become my main ereader. The warm lighting lets me use it at night, and it seems to have the right amount of text on the screen. The 6 inch screen on the 2018 version feels a bit too small, and the 7.8 inch screen on the Likebook Mars sometimes feels a bit too large, but the 6.8 inch screen on the new Paperwhite feels about right. Since I normally support or set my ereader on something while reading, the weight difference hasn't affected my reading experience.

    To be honest I’m still not sure whether I want to upgrade or not. The bigger screen is not something I particularly like, I prefer having a smaller, compact device that I can put into smaller purses so I can carry it around with me everywhere and not attract a lot of attention from other people (that’s important where I live for various reasons lol). The weight doesn’t bother me as I usually read with my kindle propped up on my legs or holding it with both hands if I’m standing up. One thing that is pulling me in is the warm light, though. It’s a feature I’ve wanted to have on my kindle for a long time and this time it’s kind of “affordable” (in my country the 2021 version is a lot more expensive than the 2018 one, the difference is bigger than the difference in dollars; still affordable when compared to the Oasis). The fact that it’s faster is also nice. But there’s no case for it in here yet, not on Amazon (will be released towards the end of November) and not anywhere else. I’m wondering if I can get a 2018 cover made out of fabric and tweak it around a bit to fit the 2021 version.
    So… ugh. I have no idea if I’ll switch mine or not 🤡

    • @channingcocot5408
      @channingcocot5408  2 года назад

      I can definitely see why your having a hard time! The warm light is definitely a nice feature. I also think that if you ordered a kindle cover that was crochet or fabric it would probably fit. Maybe a bit snug but I believe it would work. The kindle paperwhite 2018-2019 are both great devices and compare greatly against the newer model. I feel you would honestly be happy with either! I hope you like whatever you go for!

    I got the signature edition for $85 used and I think it was completely worth it
    I'd also choose the 2021 over 2018 mainly because it has usb c instead of micro usb charging which means less cables to worry about bringing & easier cable to find also the big screen is very useful for reading fits more words
    (personally if it was full price I'd definitely get the normal paperwhite but used it ended up being a lot cheaper than either of them even the paperwhite used was the same price)

    Great review. Simply the information I need to make a good decision in a genuine manner. Also, love your “user” perspective as opposed to the so many “tech” perspectives on RUclips. I will probably upgrade to the 2021 8 Gig for the reasons you stated. Namely, larger screen and speed. The point you make about memory is valid since the 8 gig will easily hold 3000 to 5000 or more books which should be more than enough for most readers.

    looking for an eReader bc I have an iPad but I don't want to use something that heavy & big to read plus I use it mainly for watching stuff & art. so basically from what I see on Amazon the 2018 ver might be for me 1 bc of the price & 2 bc I know I'm not reading enough to require 32gb but the fact that you can get it just because for $85 why not. what makes me lean towards the 2021 ver is its speed I like that it's more fluid but is that really worth the extra $. don't care about the warm lighting or wireless charging. the screen size ngl looks nice but I'm reading on my phone rn so I'm not really gonna worry about it.

    Great review! That's coming from a tech/gadget enthusiast or geek lol I recently purchased the 4th gen paperwhite at the beginning of the year and the only thing I find worthy of upgrading for is the speed of the processor. I do not change pages that fast on a regular book, Also like you mentioned the smaller size of my kindle is nice and the bigger bezels make it easier to hold. I will upgrade if theyre ever on sale or they update the kindle oasis.

    I bought the signature edition because my old paperwhite is 8 years old and I figured overtime I might use those features enough to make it worth it.
    IMO it's kind of like buying a laptop where everything is soldered in. You only get one chance to choose the amount of RAM or CPU, etc so if you're going to keep your laptop for many years then paying more up front isn't so bad.

      I did the same 😅 I bought the se a month ago and as of now I don’t use most of the new feature , but I know that the 32gb of space fill be a god send for my audible subscription 🎉. The wireless charging as little to no value to me now but I will buy an Apple Watch soon and will have a way to experiment with it. As you said, we only have one chance to upgrade and after 10 years with my old ereader, might as well go big

    Thanks for the great video! Being the indecisive person that I am, I am still not sure which one I want lol. I have never owned a Kindle before but I did own an iPad Mini. I kind of like that the PW 2018 is lighter and smaller. I feel like it would be easier to hold using one hand. I pretty much only read while lying down so I guess the smaller and lighter one would be better for me? But then again, the new one does seem much faster. Is the PW 2018 laggy and annoyingly slow? I am worried I might regret getting an old PW version in a few years since the latest version is already out. Ugh I'm so confused. Please help me :(

    • @rainnnnn28
      @rainnnnn28 2 года назад +2

      I'm also indecisive and I ended up getting the PW 2018 (10th gen) over the newest one for my first kindle after comparing and thinking about it for weeks and I LOVE IT! It's so compact and I can bring it anywhere! It's actually not as laggy or slow as I expected, (on its own, meaning when not being compared to the new PW), from all the reviews I've heard. It's like 1.3 seconds when flipping between sections (not pages in a book, the flipping there is quick). I have a samsung s7 tablet so I'm used to fast tech but I got used to the kindle's e-ink technology fast. I didn't get the latest PW cos of the size and the bezels. Idk, I just prefer the bezel size on the 2018 one and it's comfortable for me to hold. Besides, I only just started reading seriously again and it's my first time owning a kindle so I wanted to ease myself into it a bit, while still having the cool features such as waterproofness, dark mode and "flushed" screen. It's so cute I love it so much, I've been reading on it non stop. It's just so comfortable to read on (I was using my phone before this and kindle is heaps better). Not to mention the dictionary feature on it is amazing! Anyways, highly recommend getting a PW!

  • @robertvirnig638

    Good review from a different perspective. After watching a few of these videos it amazes me how different people feel about different features. For instance, I could care less about the weight, with the standard Kindle I'm upgrading from I never even thought about how heavy or not it is, you could probably double the weight and I wouldn't notice and the case probably adds more unnecessary weight than anything else, also I think any of these are lighter than a real book, not that I'm sure since weight never has never been something I thought about. The speed makes little difference to me as I only notice it when accessing the library or the store I suppose, something I rarely use as I shop on another device. Also, you didn't mention USB-C which is decisive for me, especially for a device that requires only occasional charging, I don't want to have to find a micro-USB cord when no other devices use that anymore. The larger screen is also significant for me, I'm lazy and don't want to turn as many pages, and I only think the small difference in physical size would only matter to a lady trying to fit it in a handbag. I did opt for the signature version because why not, it is still a cheap device and I think the adjusting brightness will be convenient and I will probably use the wireless charge although that would never be a deciding factor. I do like the no ads (making the sig ver only $15 more) because I like being reminded what book I'm reading and don't like marketing, although I admit that may sound trivial. The storage is only useful for audiobooks and I can't imagine not using another device such as a phone or Alexa that is much more convenient. Until I get my new device I don't have an opinion on the warm light as the light on the standard Kindle ever bothered me except at night when it is just too bright regardless of color.

    I just bought the 2018 version for my daughter's Christmas gift due to price ($150 vs $270 here), and I was able to get a cute kids cover for it. I don't think the new kids version will be available here in NZ so that wasn't an option. With 8gb, how many audio books will that hold? That is my greatest concern as she loves audio books and will probably use it mostly to listen rather than read (although I am hoping it will encourage reading). The 2018 version is now hard to find as the sale price has people like me buying now before the new version and higher price tag hits the shelves. So if I am wanting one for my birthday it will probably have to be the 2021 version.

    I agree with DeepSeaMonkey that I enjoyed the review from a normal reader perspective. It was a nice review and I appreciate the pros and cons of each device that was easily shown on the video.
    I bought a refurbished Paperwhite 2018 version from Amazon this summer. I sold my older Kindle to a friend to help pay for the 2018 version. I honestly love this kindle and it’s size. Since I’m a guy my pockets are usually big enough to slip this Kindle into said pocket when I’m heading out and I know I’ll be reading. Seeing the bigger screen of the 2021 version shown was not attractive to me as a selling point. I’m going to stick with what I have.
    I agree with you about the ads. I like them! I’ve found a few new books because of the ads so they are a definite keep. A plus for the Kindle in your situation is one device in the van instead of a library of books to haul around and sleep with.
    Thanks and I’ve subscribed to see what’s shown next.

    You forgot to mention the USB charger. That alone sold me on purchasing the 2021 Kindle paper white over any ereader.

    Is the contrast better on the 2021?

      To me there is no big difference. However the 2021 one does have more backlights than the later model.

    Thanks for the review. I feel the same way about the wireless charging however my current Paperwhite I'm still using after 7 years. So looking into the future I might really like the wireless charging in the future.
    I don't want ads so even though it costs $50 more of I subtract the $20 for the ads it only costs $30 more. The big downside to me right now is that the signature edition won't come until December :(

      I’m right there with you! I wouldn’t want to wait either. I’d definitely wait until the price drops or for prime day etc in your case. Since your still enjoying your other kindle. Thank you for watching!

    32 gb I mean WTF would anybody need that? You can store thousands of books on 8gb. If you read 1 book per day for the next 10 years that's only 3650 books. and people are saying 8gb stores up to 5000 books.

      Agree. But they do say that for people who listen to audiobooks that 32gb is definitely a better option.
