Thanks this does help a lot. But LOL, you didn't show the hardest parts. Getting the cap loosened up from the rod, "had to heat it up like you suggested to get it unstuck". Removing the seal was very difficult as well.
Thx for the video mate have this cartridge seal problem with my 2008 rmz 450 at the moment and had a hard time taking it apart so you helped me a lot thx :)
That damper seal in the upper part.... Ive got over an hour into it and still cant get it to budge! Yes, I have the circlip out and the washer. Screw drivers and picks to no avail... There has to be a technique to it that I have not seen in the 3 decades Ive been working on things. Its embarrassing at this point.
great video. I could not figure out the lower cartridge seal removal procedure. ok peaning. makes sense. thanks. Great video. I learned something new today. SDI is a great resource for parts also.......
Nice overview, thank you. I’ve replaced these seals years ago on my 450x and just needed a refresher on the process. Time for CR250R to get new seals. The showa twin chamber 47’s are dandy forks.
Maybe they added it because the spring is loose. That’s the issue with min, the spring is loose and it’s like it needs some type of preload. Did you figure this out?
Is it normal for the cartridge spring to be loose in the cartridge? I was thinking my old cartridge springs were wore out and I needed softer ones, but they’re the same exact length. Even with the new springs installed it’s like it’s not long enough or it needs a preload. Is this normal?
I'm curious if your damper rod is 12 or 12.5mm diameter.. seems like there's 2 different seals available. My damper rod on a 2012 rmz450 measure 12.5mm. so ordered a 12.5mm seal. Maybe some 250 or older twin chamber models have a 12mm damper rod?

Very informative video. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment! There weren’t many really in depth videos on this subject so I’m glad it helped you out!
I would love to be able to do these repairs myself, thanks for the video, excellent content!
Good information well presented.
Much appreciated.

Is the Showa Inner Cartridge installed in a 2024 Triumph Bobber any good or prone to leaking?
So under my spring in-between the piston body, I have a pre load spacer that I have never seen on any other forks? Is this an aftermarket piece?
It must be, I haven’t seen that before either!
Maybe they added it because the spring is loose. That’s the issue with min, the spring is loose and it’s like it needs some type of preload. Did you figure this out?
REALLY GOOOD VIDEO got a problem with my crf 450r 2007 so going to try to fix it
Did it fix the rebound problem
Where do i find the parts list/breakdown for the inner cartridge (damper) seals?
Places like Suspension Direct and RaceTech
how is that spring force supposed to be adjusted? the short one going to the piston
You can get different rate springs from Showa

It’s normal. The spring will be under pressure once the ICS piston rises up when the fork is bled.
great video. But i cant find that part on SDI web site, do you have a link?
You can search by bike make and model, or type in the part numbers that I show in the video directly.

I know for Kawasaki, they went to a 12.5mm in 2008. Not sure about other brands.
Do you share your valving specs for this fork (05 CRF450 for woods riding)?
These forks were off a KX250F but the stock stacks for your bike should be available on Valving Logic
What are the symptoms of one of these failed seals
no rebound
Is the top seal the same as the bottom seal?
No they are different.
Can you tell me what the part number is for the top seal?
@@KyleLazzarini-sz9jl don’t have the part number off hand, but it’s readily available from places like RaceTech, SDI, etc.
