Razer Viper Review - Competitive Gaming Mouse with Optical Switches
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 авг 2024
- This mouse is amazing. It only weighs about 70 grams and doesn't even have holes, yet still feels solid. It has a super flexible soft cable, top optical sensor, optical switches, a medium sized ambidextrous very comfortable shell, buttons on both sides that don't get in the way and so much more.
Basically if you were considering the Zowie FK1 or Glorious Model O, you should definitely give this one a look first. You don't even need to have Synapse installed!
By the way, those gaps between the buttons feel fine, I was so unaware of them during use I totally forgot to mention that in the video.
Great mouse, really happy to see Razer give us a competitive FPS mouse like this. Love it. Now to bug them for a smaller version and a larger version.

Where is the grip table :/
Sorry was trying to go with RJN 3.0 measurements. Just off the top of my head without the mouse in front of me, I would say:
Palm ... under 17.5cm
Claw ... between 19.5 and 21.5cm
Fingertip ... between 19.5 and 21.5cm
If you rest your palm on the back of the mouse in claw grip, this mouse isn't too good because it's only 3.82cm with the hump toward the middle.
Can't believe it was you that ruined a perfect mouse with the side button advice, terrible design advice, takes much longer to hit all Actives as a support in lol and it's so awkward to press, it literally takes you away from mouse movement. Bad move mate.
@@RocketJumpNinja Do you Kovaxxs?
Lorie Dunn you just have horrible aim, side buttons don’t change that, maybe grip, but just change that and you’ll be fine. Don’t blame rjn because your shit aim kid

I’m actually pretty surprised they managed to get the weight down to about the model o and remain at about the same size without adding any holes to the mouse. Leads me to believe that being smart with the structure of the mouse contributes a lot more than adding holes to it. Thoughts?
Should def be safer for the internals with consideration to dust and moisture
Having holes long term may cause issues with dust, I think the viper is the better model o, also hi intel i like your minecraft/osu streams
what are you doing here i7
Just behind where the mouse buttons begin, the entire bottom part is just a roof basically, and it has small bridges supporting the mouse buttons. The whole mouse is hollow with the back part being sturdy plastic and the buttons/sides being super light weight. It's a beautiful piece of engineering and holes are super lazy in comparison.
The model O sure does look better with the holes and graphic.
Damn Razer stepping up their game. This mouse does almost everything right! :)
Keodo true but a smaller shape and honeycomb design would make razer a “relevant” gaming brand again.
Keodo they’re also stepping up the price lol
They aren't. This mouse will be dead in 6 months to a year. Where as Logitech will pretty much run forever.

Went from loving the FK2 over to the S2 simply because of the 3360 and easy to switch report rate. Now I'm on the Razer Viper after many months of the S2 and I can say again that flatter mice are for me. Razer has done something special here and the viper will be my new main for the foreseeable future. Calling on Zowie now to refresh the FK2 to see which is really the best.

Bought this mouse yesterday it’s f*cking flawless for Rainbow Six Siege, been clapping headshots with one taps easier and faster “ sensitivity : 28 - 28 - 28 , DPi : 1200
I've been a Razer Deathadder 2013 owner for 5+ years and it never occured to me that my mouse might be hindering my performance because it was the first gaming mouse I ever bought and had no point of reference.
I finally decided to upgrade, so I bought the Viper and I fell in love with the shape of this mouse from the very first moment that I held it in my hand. Now after watching 1:37 I can understand why. My finger measurements are within 1mm of the mice's measurements. It's pretty much a perfect fit. It feels amazing to use and all the minor issues I had with my aim have been resolved and I noticeably aim better and more consistently now. Oh, and the occasional wrist/tendon pain that I used to get after long sessions is also gone now because its lower height doesn't bend my wrist upwards as much as the Deathadder did. I love it.
Do you claw grip or palm grip your mouse?
@@kizunahoshino4848 palm grip 90% of the time and fingertip grip on some occasions when I need a lot of precision
@@dcv2009 I bought the mouse too, but my hand is kinda small and my 3-fingers measurement is just 47 mm
I am struggling with palm gripping the Razer Viper now :s
Hopefully it'll get better if I switch to a mouse pad with higher friction, though it might nullify the purpose of the lightweight
It's kinda sad since I really like the design of the mouse
@@kizunahoshino4848 Yeah, that length is kinda short. Mine is 57mm so pretty much exactly what Zy recommended for this mouse. My Deathadder is wider and it always felt a bit off in my hand, I could never handle it properly. Based on my experience, I would say that you can still get used to a wide mouse, but you will never be as good with it as you would be on a mouse with perfect measurements.
@ 20cm long, 10.5cm wide(measured like in 2:19). As for the more specific measurements which were used earlier in this video, they are pretty much the same as Zy's recommended ones for this mouse.
If this mouse doesn't break down into double-clicking like my G Pro Wireless (and it's _many_ replacements, to the point where I feel like it's a subscription) then I'm sold.
It uses optical switches so there isnt any double clicking. Thats why im thinking of buying this over the GPW.
I have this mouse, the shape and sensor are amazing but the optical mouse clicks take some time to get used to because they feel mushy compared to standard switches. Not necessarily a bad thing but there is an adjustment period just a heads up if you're thinking of buying.
He criticized Daddy Model O! Get him!
Actually though, good review, I’ll definitely check this one out
Moist Manatee haha
Moist Manatee the model o isn’t really as good as people say it is people just like it for its price and quality.
@@elloralondon3326 I've got the viper, a air 58 and a model o. I used all quite a bit but eventually stuck with the o. The flare at the front bugs me quite a lot even tho I'm fingertip. The air 58 is a bit too tall for me
@@elloralondon3326 it's the amd of mice tbh, specifically comparing it to their cpu division. Really good for the money and performance.
@David Whitfield yeah because they dont over price shit like razer and way you has a defective unit so you could have just told them to get you a new one lol
For anyone wondering, razer store has it listed at around 90€. So quite a bit more expensive than the Model-O but you do get a (probably) more durable and reliable mouse.
I really need to thank u for the Content you provide us.
My first real "Gaming Mice" was the Razer DeathAdder but after some weeks of playing with it, I thought something felt off, so I sold it.
(I was pretty young and inexpierenced in what to look out for so... I wasn't the most intelligent back then)
After that I bought the Zowie ZA12.
I am using it for years now but I feel like that the little something isn't there.
And then I found this Channel about a year ago and watched like everything that could help me find a better mouse.
After some research I decided to give the G305 a try since it not only fitted my hand size (I have a 20cm length and 12cm width hand, so it sounds ridiculous but it really is so) on paper but also got a good, let's say "score" from you.
And so I bought the mice and tested it but after some time, I thought my ZA was still better, so I send it back.
Now after I watched this Video I think, I found a mice that may be worth giving a try again.

Nice Review, glad they made a mouse a little bit smalller than the DA.
Thanks for your fast reviews
It’s hilarious how people say it costs too much when Logitech is charging 150 and these mice are meant for serious competitive gamers who are willing to spend a lot to have the best peripherals.
Hey there's always $10 mice you can buy from a corner-store. Those people that are bitching are more than welcome to use one of those. It's a gaming mouse, designed specifically for high-level competitive gaming. They are made to have maximum efficiency with movement detection, suited for accuracy, and have extra buttons that many fps games rely on. They act like these are just mass produced out of some Chinese factory a million at a time. The wireless ones, like the Logitech ones, are especially tricky because you have to perfect all of their sensors because otherwise most wireless mice have an input lag on them. Even if it's minimal, milliseconds matter in fps games. People are just mad that they can't buy high-end gaming gear on EBT.
Logitech is not charging 150 that is probably only for wireless versions. I don't know who these people are who say it is expensive but 70-80 is right prices for mice anything above that is expensive since you can buy some of best mice out that for that price. You would have to offer something extremely special in order to justify it.
Marko Lomovic I’m talking about the G Pro Wireless, the most popular gaming mouse for professional esports players
@@spoodyrl It is not most popular
@@MarkoLomovicLomovic For professional players it is. Most of the top esports players in the world use the Logitech G Pro Wireless. Just most people aren't professional, so the $150 price tag is too steep.

Bought the mouse, been playing for 6 months, I love this mouse, I'm glad I watched the review and bought it, it feels perfect.
@Voix nope no problems to report, best Razer mouse I've purchased.
As a left handed mouse user, I really appreciate the thought of keeping the buttons on the right side! :)
Anthony Rubbertoe how do you game on a keyboard using your right hand? Isn’t it easier just to use it like you are right handed (as i know some left handed people who do this)
@@Joe_EGz I'm actually right handed. I only use my mouse left handed.. (long story) I use UHJK as WASD. Rebinding keys is a pain
I have the ultimate, so not sure if this is an issue with the regular viper or not, by my right click felt pretty squeeky/crunchy/mushy out of the box. I gave it a couple days and it didn't improve. So I carefully took the mouse apart and tested the bare switches which both felt great, so narrowed it down to the buttons themselves. I observed a small peg just under the center of each button that passes through a hole in the rest of the body. I assume this acts as a stabilizer that prevents the buttons from moving left and right, but the right side was rubbing on the inside of the hole. I added a drop of some teflon lubricant, and my mouse feels perfect now. I've seen a lot of people complaining about mushy clicks on this mouse, so I hope this helps somebody. Cheers
I also noticed the mushyness of the clicks on my razer viper, I returned my first one and the 2nd one I got feels a bit better. Although if there is room to improve this further I would like to take advantage of it. How the heck did you take the thing apart? There aren't any screws as far as I cant tell. Can you add some lubrication directly underneath each mouse button?
@@freedomfighter8883 the screws are located under the mouse feet. If you use a hair dryer or heat gun to carefully remove them, you can put them back on no problem. Just be careful with the heat gun, it will start melting stuff really fast if you aren't experienced with using them. The post I'm talking about can easily be seen once you take the top of the mouse body off and look at the underside of the plastic buttons themselves. Not the switches, but the buttons that you fingers rest on.
Love your reviews. I actually like the feel of holes in mice, but like you said, everyone's different.
ChuckleBerryPi well i like my mouse to live. And when i often get my mouse dirty. Holes are the worst thing i can have
@@tomekl3476 I'ts a bit weird, but my Model O haven't gotten dirty like at all unlike my FK2 or S2. I think the surface material/texture is just better for my hand (I have matte one) and the holes let my hand breath a bit, as I kinda palm and claw it depending what I do with it.
When you claw it you can't feel the holes anyway, as mostly the holes are in the position, where only your palm would touch them. Maybe it will get dusty overtime perhaps, but I doubt it is going to be a problem.
Anyway, this looks like a really solid razer mouse overall! :)
Kankipappa to be honest i use fingertip grip while gaming and claw when chilling out. So i cant feel the holes at all. But i often get my mouse dirty because my hands get sweaty really fast and its quite common for me to spill something. I dont want to loose my great mouse just because water got into it. And i like this razer mouse. Its not like the rest of their products that dont fit me at all and are just focused on looks. This mouse is really something i wanted to have for a long time. No holes, great weight, great shape, great sensor, rubber pads, buttons are also cool and i like the look of it.
@@tomekl3476 All great points. Everyone is different. I'm glad you've found something that should work for you. Personally, I have a strict NO LIQUID rule for my set up. I keep a bottle of water on a side table & an air duster to keep my mouse clean.
i love this comparison u are making, really helps me considering what i should buy

The side buttons are my biggest issue. I dont want to do thumb gymnastics just to press a button.
VPX4 I have a Deathadder elite and I often press the side buttons by accident when I'm in a intense firefight. I was playing cs once and an enemy jump in front of me and I pressed mouse 4 in a panic and equipped a flashbang and died. I don't have anything bind to the side buttons because I don't use them. I have enough keys on the keyboard.
If you found a mouse which is great for you except the side button, You can open the mouse and unplug the part with the side buttons from the main board, remove it. And then fill the hole with a custom 3d print :) should be an easy trick :)
@@truegrip2281 Or you can just change the keybinding, lol. Just autohotkey it to number 9 or something
Well thumb buttons are quite dependent on grip style and hand size, of course. I've yet to use the Viper, but I've used most of the older Razer ambidextrous mice (even some from other brands like Mionix), and probably the tiniest and most stealthy side buttons I've seen are the ones in the original Diamonbacks, they were so tiny (it was actually just one button but with rock-like actuation), and they put small bumpy-dots over them so people could actually feel them, and personally got used to clicking them, even with the pinky finger, and even played MMOs with it, like WoW, using the 4 side buttons for active skills, so it's possible to use small side buttons...if your hand is able to, of course.
So honestly, I don't see the Viper buttons being much harder to hit, it's all about muscle memory, to be honest, but of course some hand sizes won't be as comfortable on this type of side buttons as others...only if you have used similar mice in the past you can only start to guess, looking at the video and pictures.
@@nagynorbie Can you disable the side buttons in software?

9:29 Now that it has been over a year, how have the grips held up?

They hold up well
Was looking for something like Glorious O with much better grip, a return policy that works (is on Amazon!) and is light, and it's only 3 grams heavier, also a good med to large. This seems exactly right! THANKS Bro :)
I so wish for a new version of the Razer Lachesis. It had a LASER sensor and was quite lengthy, but the side buttons' placement was perfect - low enough that you could easily press them with your thumb, but high enough to prevent accidental clicks, even more so thanks to the fact they were thin. I still use it to this day on my 2nd computer which I use just to browse the internet.
If they made a new version with a good optical sensor and made it 20% shorter, I would buy it in a heartbeat. if you see this comment, and if you can get in touch with Razer, please tell them to refresh the Lachesis with a shorter length and a good optical sensor. It's the best mouse for me personally and you can tell how much I wish for a new shorter optical version.
A rubber grip similar to the Lancehead TE would also be a plus that would expedite my purchase. A Non-plastic shell is also an option, tho not very important.
What people want from Razer is a 75g or lighter Deathadder, it's the perfect medium sized mouse shape, and I don't even like Razer as a brand but nothing comes close, no one can seem to make a good right handed mouse that fits perfectly for claw and hibrind claw + palm pro FPS gaming. I wish there were real competition from other brands for the Deathadder shape. Literally countless posts of people modding their deathadders to be light and looking for the very same shape with lighter weight for replacement when you search for "lighter weight deathadder". Razer, and it's competition is really sleeping on it and letting the opportunity pass, people want the classic deathadder shape untouched, but lighter. It has a reason it was a classic and both the most used FPS mouse in pro competition together with the intelimouse and the most sold Razer mouse ever to this day...

tbh I really like the holes on my model O as a design feature. I do not feel them at all in a claw grip.
I've had 2 razer Taipans for 6 years before getting my model O and I was very satisfied however, So if I wa in the market for a new mouse I'd consider it.
Off topic: The model O I got is a flawed product, the DPI swith is stuck and does not work. I don't use it so I don't care, but keep in mind that the model O's price comes with some trade offs, such as good QC.
Well, it can happen to any product that it will have flawed copies. My Model O works fine while I had 2 Logitech G Pro Wireless', 3 G903's, 1 G703 with every single one of them having double clicking issue after 1st use. So I don't think it's the company and their QC when I trust them more than fucking Logitech. As you can see I trusted them more then 6 TIMES, never buying shit from them again, it's just brand you pay for.
hand size?
Hey Zy, I just picked up this mouse because your sizing guide and it's your top 5 overall. Never thought I'd buy a razer product. So far so good 🤙👍
i got mine yesterday and i agree with everything said in this video but just so anyone planning to but this the light weight does come at a cost this mouse can only have one profile for onboard memory since there is no way to switch between profiles on the mouse without the software for custom dpi and programming buttons and there is no ability to adjust lift off distance and one more thing i previously had a lancehead even thoigh they are ambidextrous i got it for the buttons on each side which i was able to use with comfort on the Lancehead but since they are more flush on the viper the right side buttons as a righty and it would be vice versa for a lefty but it has a great cable and is very sturdy for its weight and has no creak i would highly recommend it
Haven't tried this, but because HyperShift still works even after the software is uninstalled, couldn't you set HyperShift to one of the buttons on all profiles then use HyperShift + another button to switch between the profiles?
So the first button on the right side could be HyperShift, then the one next to it could be switch profile. Do that on all profiles and ... I would think you can switch profiles?
i suppose that you could do that but for me it doesnt matter since i have a desktop the only issue i might have is i also bought ceramic skates arriving tommorow and i hope that the it will not have and skipping since it will be raised slighty and i cant adjust lift off distance and thank you for responding
Ok let me know how it goes!

Rocket jumping is the loudest and most obvious sound you could make besides making footstep noises, which arguably is less common than rocket jumping.
That last rail was nuts!
Great review and triple rail at the end there :)
1.2 k views in 10 min on a mouse rewiew is pretty nice
especially on a mouse that we've wanted to see from Razer and after hearing rumors that it would be 69g with no holes was pretty dope
Hype is real I waited for this Video :D
Not Pro :D Should I get this or the steelseries rival 600?
@@Turtlemilk I would rather get this Mouse its lighter has a better cable and the sensor is on the same level. Also the shape of the Razer is one of the best because they copied it from Zowie like glorious did.
Not Pro :D thank you, kind sir 💕. I will certainly buy this mouse once I wake up tomorrow morning 🙌🏻
@@Turtlemilk No problem Bro
How is the mouse doing for you now ?
I'm not usually a Razer person myself. The only Razer that I've liked was the Abyssus. But this mouse looks really good, it actually hypes me up. Thanks Zy, always great videos!
I've been waiting for more mice to have optical switches
review the m55 of corsair, it looks like they finally did a mouse with a decent shape xd
If the lift off distance is 1 DVD, does that mean lexip ceramic feet won’t work on the Viper?
Ceramic feet?
My hand size is : 17.78cm X 10.47cm
Grip: fingertip/claw hybrid
Best mouse I've found so far : Logitech G Pro Hero (wired) (G203 shell with Hero 16k Sensor)
I used Razer products for over a decade, and I just can't deal with their prices and shoddy QA. I do hope that this mouse does work for those who have the hand dimensions and grip style for it!
Also, if anyone from Razer reads this, gg FINALLY putting onboard memory in a mouse. A bit late, but better late than never I guess.
Zy, great job, as usual ;) I hope you're doing well and having a great day/night.
i have the same hand size have you tried this mouse yet?
@@tylancarino2959 No, I used Razer mice for over a decade and I'm tired of having to have software installed to use a mouse. I use the same mouse that I mentioned in my comment. G Pro Hero (wired)
this one doesnt need razer synapse i think
@@tylancarino2959 This mouse does save the DPI to onboard memory, but for some reason, Razer couldn't get a memory chip large enough to store RGB data AND DPI....
@@badnewsbruner i dont mind the rgb and i only use 400 as dpi so i got the mouse, feels great man
Just ordered one. Super stoked. Ty Zy!
But the model o has one of the best buttons on a mouse I have ever used and I’ve used a lot of mouses
Aubry but it only has 20 million click durability when the standard is 50 million
@@attackticaltwitchtv3542 yea but it still feels super good
Idk, I felt that model o has inferior clicks compared to logitech. They are not as quick and don't have such a good feeling either, but this is subjective as some may find logitech clicks too light.
Zy PLEASE review the new Endgame Gear XM1 mouse. PLEASE!
I have used the g502 for 2 and a half years ever since I got my gaming pc. Recently I have started to look into lighter mouse and this was high on my list of wants. And today it went on sale for only 25€ at a local electronic shop.
An amazing purchase, I love the mouse so much. Coming from something as heavy as the g502 definitely is something to get used to, but besides that I love the viper so much
so I was measuring my hand along with the video and realized its perfect for my hand, thanks for the suggestion now I gotta check this out
Finally might go for a razed product
Hi Zy,
If you don't mind me asking, I need some help figuring a mouse for me. My hand is 18cm by 10cm.
Used a razer deathadder (which was to big and the hump was annoying), Nixeus Revel ( Almost perfect but it felt narrow), and at the moment Logitech G305 ( also narrow).
I play csgo 90% of time. And my grip is either palm or a hybrid of claw and finger tip. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Have a good day.
Stop being a lazy fuck. If you want his advice and only his advice just go for his site. There are literally lists for different hand sizes and grip styles for pretty much all hands
@@davidsegalle563 woah
@@davidsegalle563 First sentence was unnecessary sir. I was just asking. I do research to figure out a general Idea. But some input would be helpful but not necessary. Hopefully you understand I was just looking for some advice. Have a good day.
@@JocoChill1235 fair enough. I was having a shit week (still am) but dont call me sir for the love of god. Youre sending a RUclips comment not a formal letter to your boss
@@davidsegalle563 I do it out of habit it's how I am and how I was raised. Regardless, have a good day.
Love your work rjn, I always watch your review of a product before buying and I'm improving a lot with the right equipment
Now you see Zy, people just don't like the Final mouse brand. None of it was aimed it towards you :)
Should I get Logitech GPW or Razer Viper??
@Snypeper Bro that's what i'm literally thinking about!!
both good.but I don’t like charge a mouse. So I pick Viper. If you prefer wireless, than pick GPW.
Both are good mice, but i don't like Razer at all
If you don’t like razer pick the gpw
Snypeper trust me. This Viper doesn’t like any Razer mouse before.
Please review Endgame Gear Xm1, world's fastest gaming mouse.
Bought Razer Viper, thought it will be amazing. RMA'ed 3 times in a row with one issue (left click rattling), i am done with this lottery.
btw, YOU CAN DISABLE THE SIDEBUTTONS
This or glorious model O?
Milan this
Model O
10:40
11:00 I would also rather not have holes, but this will hole up my pockets.
We like light weight mouse, but not like weight pocket
I'm impressed. Uploaded right around the time razer made their's.
As Always, GREAT Review, thank you, RJN
70g with no holes? Interesting. Guess those don’t make too big of a difference
Drill some holes and it'll be down to 60 maybe 50
the 2009 version of the Razer Abyssus was 71 grams I believe. i like the shape of the Viper more though
They make a huge difference, internals are really hard to cut weight without compromising on functionality, it's already just so light, 10-12 grams I consider to be a great cut in weight, what's inside the mouse is probably around 30-50 grams alone, we have to innovate a lot more to get close to anything below 44 (what the current finalmouse offers), and not in the material the shell uses, because the only thing lighter than that I'm aware is aerogel.
If the shell is thin they don't, but thin shells should theoretically cost more due to lower yields on the shells.
Your a fucking dumbass
so almost all 2019 mice look like zowie FK
Actually first review of this mice I started watching is Dave2D's and I couldn't stand it, because it lacked soo many things that you consider during your reviews! Dave next to you looked like a beginner when he tried to describe the mouse.
I hope to be in a future where mouses are released with different sizes. If they were in a store and went to check out some mouses, there can be a little guide on the box where you put your 3 middle fingers on to help determined which size would be suited for you.
White version of the viper please razer
really want to know the background music
It's the music he makes I believe
Ok, so I bought Viper a week ago, because my Mamba Elite seems too big for me as my skill in csgo increased a lot since last few months and I cant make super fast and precise moves with big pig Mamba :) Viper is my first ambidextrous mouse.
First touch.. hmm... something is not okay. How the hell should I grab it?! Why youtubers and my best mouse friend RocketJumpNinja said that is the safe shape. Believe me first day I felt physical pain in my hand and forearm while playing. I was reaaaaaly close to sell it. Second day, third day... a bit better, no pain at all but still some grabbing/holding issues.
Today... well... I cant imagine better mouse in any aspect! I dont feel it in my hand, its literraly like my sixth most precise finger.
Thank you Zy, thank you Razer. This is probably the best mouse ever made
Vagabundo no mushy clicks? i saw a lot of people complaining about them recently.
@@lain8239 Im pretty sure it was the problem with first batches, mine is tottaly fine. Honestly I still cant understand how such a light mouse can be built like a tank. It doesnt make any sound even under hard pressure. Real top level.
I've personally owned the Razer Viper for a while now, and I haven't had really any issues with mine at all. It still looks and feels like new, and operates perfectly fine. Though the $80 price tag may ward off most, I'd say it's completely worth it.
How many years or mouth did u use it ?
@@buddyxd9298 I've had it for well over 6 months. Besides the scroll wheel nearly coming out once when i dropped it, I've had no problems.
Hmm, ok, a new mouse, that’s cool, thanks for the review
"Many of you are saying 'but I don't want the Razer software'"
Me: But I don't want the Razer logo...
Awesome that Zy gets a say in the development process nowadays
Fantastic review! I'll definitely be switching over to a Viper ASAP!
Zowie better hop on the lightweight train, tho the S2 is really nice but how about the S2 Lite
Tycoonmaster460 S2 with a honeycomb design on all sides woullllldddd make it probably like 60grams
@CFG What about lens flare 😂
