I am having somewhat bittersweet weekend playing only POCO in memory of Rusty Young and the rest. I know he gave it his all and to the end...he was trying to deliver to his fans and keeo POCO moving on.
I'm simply shattered, I loved all of their albums and was able to see them in small venues actually meet and be photographed with them. Nice guys all around no better musicians anywhere (I say that with much affection) as I know there are equal and sometimes better musicians Neil Peart.
RIP Rusty. Poco is this time; no more. Thanks to you, it had always survived. You were the heart and soul. 😢Rip Paul also. Sad year for PocoNuts and nothing will ever be the same for us.

The first time I went to see them in 73 I was hooked..what an experience,the harmonies,rusty on pedal steel,pauls' incredible guitar playing,george on drums and backup vocals,timothys' voice and bass playing.Anytime they were playing within 100 miles I would go,and everytime it was AMAZING
The gates of heaven opened up again for Paul Cotton back in August. RIP Rusty and Paul. Thank you for your music created great memories.

With the passing of Rusty Young this week I feel sad , but also thankful for all the great Poco music I've loved through the years . His excellent pedal steel guitar , along with other instruments , and songwriting , took Poco to a higher level . This video could have been 2 & 1/2 hours long and I would have watched it all . Very well done , and fine tribute to the band and Rusty . ' Rocky Mountain Breakdown ' has such devastating pedal steel solo - all Rusty at full throttle . RIP friend , you blessed us all .

'73 at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ open up for the Beach Boys and was hooked! Flawless harmonies, tight musicians and such a good feelin' to know was had! RIP Rusty!

Can't believe I'm hearing this news from you, first, after watching the History deal. This "Official" Poco RUclips Channel seems not to have posted anything yet. What's up with that? We'll see, I guess. Doesn't look to be too "official". Maybe they will notice our posts...

My husband only broke the news to me this morning. I was crushed. That wonderfully, criminally underrated talent gone from this world. I am tearing up right now about it. I saw an interview with Mark Farner (Grand Funk) and he said he was incredibly impressed by 'that guy Rusty from Poco".
I do have a humorous tale about Rusty that might help us:
Hubby (who I turned on to Poco and is a rabid fan) and I went to the Ramshead in Annapolis to see them in the early 2000's (?). We somehow got in to their soundcheck ... Rusty was walking towards us but not to us. I saw the wrinkle in the rug just about the time his foot snagged on it. He nearly landed in my lap!! I didn't mind; before he could say anything, I shouted ARE YOUR HANDS ALRIGHT??? He smiled and said yes there were. Whew! "Can't have those hands damaged can we?" I asked. He nodded and went on his way. They gave a fantastic show - as always.
He and their music will always stay alive if we make it so. Play them and play them loud. Thank you for this video; it is bittersweet viewing though.

Oh, no. Reading the comments after I made my post... So sad to hear Rusty died last week (14 April 2021). I was just looking around on youtube, playing stuff, when I came across this history post, and watched it for the first time. I'm 69, and know we all have to go eventually, but this is a bummer I'll just have to deal with. Rusty and all of Poco left us so much to remember them by. Actually, I've been playing some of Richie's new live album here this past week. But, this is where I'm hearing this bad news first. I've subscribed to your channel.

'Legend' is my favorite album of ALL TIME! I have owned it in all forms for years, I have the record, the cassette, the cd and now on my computer. I wore the first record out and I just bought another copy. Funny how I went from record thru all of that and I am back at the record again. Good things last.... Thanks isn't enough!

I'm still kicking myself for never seeing them live. POCO Live is one of their best albums in my opinion.
I loved "Crazy Love" for many years, hearing it on the radio, but unfortunately, living in a very small town, I just didn't know much about the band and its history, and I also didn't have musically savvy friends who knew much about them to advise me. In recent days though, I have discovered Poco's history through the internet. Now, I have thirteen of their albums on the way in the mail! Poco is amazing! Thank you, Tom!

@@donnaschimming Since I wrote that comment months ago, I have collected all of their albums (on CD) from 1969 to 1984, and I'm still catching up to their more recent work since then, and their music has come to mean *so much* to me. It speaks to my mind, heart, and soul in a deep way. Poco has become one of my favorite bands of all time, and Rusty was such an incredible songwriter and musician. I am torn up inside over his passing.

Watching this, with each song bit I got chills. Not sure if it’s because of losing so many cassette tapes, losing my youth, losing time or losing Rusty. I wish I’d made it a priority to see more shows. I feel I’ve lost that chance too. What a great live band in all their configurations. R.I.P. my friend.

Wow! Excellent video! Poco is such a great legendary band with a legendary legacy! They formed the country rock genre!
Hi, Rusty! Poco is the original country rocker for sure. Thank you for the music. I just like to let you know that you have a huge hit in S. Korea, "The Sea of Heartbreak" from Cowboys and Englishmen. I believe the album was sold out more than 500,000 copies. I think it's the best cover ever.

@@TheOfficialPocoRUclipsChannel and it's a damn shame that when I talk about them, I have to explain; No Poco - No Eagles. Most people get it when I say it like that. Still ruffles my feathers that they didn't achieve greater acknowledgement and sales. It is bewildering actually. I have turned people onto them.

Very well done Tom. I had basically given up hope on ever seeing much more publicly on my favorite band.

Poco has been one of my favorite bands from their inception. Saw them twice in early 70s, with J Messina and then Paul Cotton ( with JJ Cale as their opener!). They were great each time. Saw a newer version of the band in early to mid 2000s as well. They did a nice job as well. What a great musical legacy they left. I assume they are now done with Rusty gone. RIP Rusty.

Poco was a top 3 ever band for me (Beatles, Bruce). Nothing better than a Bruce or Poco concert (saw them many times in the older formulations with Jim and then Paul).
This history filled in a lot of info I was unaware of. Too cool for school!
Please forgive me, I've always felt like the only guy who knows how great these guys are. Can't thank you enough for the update on later releases, which had escaped my attention. The album "Indian Summer" encapsulates all that is "country rock" for me. I can listen to the powerful "Under the Gun" song on tape loop for an hour. I'm going to be searching for their live DVD, because I've never seen them in concert. Thanks again for posting, I'm so, so grateful.
I guess that Rusty ran this channel. Weird how Poco just didn’t get air play and break out back in 1971, I played them to death back then but few had heard of them. Corporate music industry has smothered lots of talent. Thanks Poco for some superb, creative music.

Another aspect of this band that is often overlooked is their vocal capabilities. I know of no other band with a deeper bench of superior vocalists than Poco.
That was really nice! I'm an original Poco fan. I missed the debut Pogo-to-Poco shows, first seeing them at Atlanta Pop II in July 1970, and later that year (iirc 30 October) at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. That show, with Procol Harum as the closer, was the night Jimmy handed over the reins to Paul. They were both there that night. I've seen them many many times since...
I first saw Poco at the July 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival as well. Great festival, but Poco was the highlight for me.

Saw Poco in ‘69 in Houston. Great show
Almost criminal that Poco didn't enjoy more commercial success than they did. Perhaps it was because their line up was forever changing , which may have taken some of its identity away, although many returned and left again through the revolving door around Rusty Young, so that shouldn't have been the case. They should release a definitive Anthology double CD now that the band is no more after the passing of Rusty Young and Paul Cotton.

I have to acknowledge the Eagles who I loved; until I found out what s**ts two of them are. I still love the music, but will no longer purchase anything by them. They introduced me to Poco and for that I am forever grateful.

I liked the Eagles but not how those two treated the other musicians. They deserved to be treated better.
I guess Timmy Schmidt only stayed for the money etc.

I know Poco had a album with English musicians..
Been a fan of both bands since they came on the music scene.
Joe Walsh was a great artist in his own right...
I just don't like the way Frey/Henley acted...
Music wise Eagles are okay...
Poco I think has better quality music..and much nicer band of guy's.
CCR..my favourite band..
Fleetwood Mac..Tango in the night and Rumours just fabulous.
Then again Nirvana..equally as good..
We could go on forever...
Music from 60's-90's was excellent..

@@avengernemesis7990 Yes Glyn IS English. The Eagles went to England to record with him; and from OLD interviews they did not like him. Or rather Frey/Henley didn't. I guess he made them focus on work instead of bickering about everything. The article I read was a long time ago and I do not remember the details. I do remember him saying the only thing he liked about them was the harmonies.
Honestly, I lost interest in The Eagles when Walsh joined them. I do not think of him as a great artist, and IMO he added nothing to the mix that Felder hadn't already done.
Poco; better quality; depends on your point of view. I would say Poco's sound was more pure, natural and innocent. Which was lost when the E's went California. MUCH nicer guys- yes. Except for Meisner-complete innocent and was treated shamefully by those Two.
I too love CCR as for Mac, I enjoy both incarnations: Peter Green's FM - which is superior, and the California Mac; Stevie's material spoke to me more. Yeah, I could talk music for hours and hours. Especially the industry's underdogs - Poco, BOC, Rare Earth, The Hollies....
I'm not a musical snob - except bluegrass, opera, rap and violent Norwegian/Swedish death metal. I'll admit to liking the Partridge Family, Edison Lighthouse and the Archies. As well as Seether, O.N-John, Winger, Pentagram, Veruca Salt and Black and Blue. Most music has something valid and I hate it when some pooh-poohs a band because it isn't 'hard' or 'heavy' or 'serious'. I've never put out an album so I really can't say how hard, never wracking and heart breaking it can be.

You’re COMPLETELY overlooking The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. It was all part of the Laurel Canyon vibe. Yes, Poco was in the forefront too, but they were not the sole inventors of this genre.

I don't know... before Poco there were the Byrds, CSNY, Loving Spoonful. THE TURTLES, Momas and Papas,
Poco had so many personell changes , they went from one hit wonder to the next. Their brand fell apart .. Only a hit in the top 40 kept a pulse. But did they create country rock? No. They were part of it. But they weren't it.
You are confusing country rock with folk rock. Two very different sounds and styles.
