Venezuelan here!! I just watched the video and I MUST thank you for sharing this, I really appreciate the accuracy of your initial context about this issue, since not many english content channels give some of the important details you mention, as a venezuelan I appreciate this, also because you're not underestimating its international repercussions, regarding your analysis, it's also very close to what it seems will occur tho there's just one correction, in the video you draw the Essequibo map wrongly, the analysis is simple but good, tbh you over performed my expectations
I'm from Eastern Venezuela (Lechería, the wealthiest city in the country) and I'm very scared, to the time in writing this the result has been announced and Nicolás Maduro already has a legal tool to justify a war towards the rest of the world, believe that most people DESPISE HIM AND THIS MOVE, INCLUDING MYSELF, Venezuela country can win against Guyana BUT we will never win if there's any foreign support by any military power to Guyana, which seem to be Brazil and the US. Once again, thank you for sharing this video and I wish you the best and keep growing!! 🇻🇪

I appreciate the kind comment so much that I decided to pin it for others to see. Many people have said that I have no idea what I'm talking about and that the video is not informative, but when I ask them to correct me, they cannot. I oversimplified the situation, maybe I shouldn't have.
I only wish for peace, hope that a war doesn't break out and the dictatorship in Venezuela is toppled, so the country can realise their big potential!

If the vote is said to be yes, then the war can begin and nationalism in theory can be cultivated, and if they say it said no, they can claim legitimacy by showing off complying with a referendum.

There are practically no roads in Esequibo of any kind, and no roads in Venezuela leading to it either. Forget tanks, you’d struggle to drive a dirt bike through the area. The only practical way for armed forces to occupy the region would be by motorboat or helicopter. But there’s only a handful of tiny villages to travel to anyway until you reach the suburbs of Georgetown. There’s nothing for an occupying army to do, no plausible way to even plunder resources. Realistically the only way Venezuela could take control of the area would be by using its navy to dominate to coastline. But putting aside the USA, France could veto such on op with a single frigate if they decided it was a little uncomfortable having a war so close to their spaceport. Only an air and sea campaign could win such a war, and Venezuela has no chance on either front.

However, their influence in the area was not as sucessful or enduring, and over time, other European powers, particularly the Dutch, became more dominant. By the 17th century, the Dutch had established settlements in the Essequibo basin. In the early 19th century, during the Napoleonic Wars, the British took control of Dutch colonies, including Essequibo. @@JohnWick-lk9xq You're right in some part, but you're turning a blind eye and you're doing it on purpose because it's the version of the story you want to believe.
Spain had a poor presence in the Essequibo, if not non-existent, but Holland and Spain delimited their border, giving the Essequibo to Spain, then the United Kingdom took over British Guyana and it ACCEPTED THE ESEQUIBO RIVER AS A BORDER BETWEEN VENEZUELA AND BRITISH GUYANA , you want to turn a blind eye to that detail, something that is mentioned in the same video you just saw
Venezuela was stripped of Essequibo, just as you stripped Mexico of Texas and California, only unlike Mexico, Venezuela never ratified the annexation of Essequibo by the United Kingdom.
Another thing that you ignore, the Geneva Agreement
But to talk about this agreement we must first mention the Paris Arbitration Award, Venezuela did not participate in that Award, the United States did it for Venezuela because the British considered the Venezuelans as "Savages"
With that Award, Venezuela lost Essequibo legally but some time later one of the US Ambassadors died and in text and notes he revealed that the judges who ruled on the Paris Arbitration Award were not impartial and that the Russian Judge was bought by England, thanks to That American State Venezuela was able to reclaim the territory and guess what?
The Geneva Agreement was signed, thus nullifying the Paris Arbitration Award. The signatories of this Agreement were the United Kingdom, British Guyana and Venezuela. And this is when their heads short circuit
Why would the United Kingdom sign another agreement that invalidates the one that was signed many years ago? The United Kingdom recognized the fraud of the Paris Arbitration Award, but you want to turn a blind eye to that
If we move on to the present, well... yes, Guyana controls the Essequibo and Venezuela does not, Venezuela lost its opportunity to recover it through diplomatic means, I do not dispute that, but it bothers me how you manipulate history
But what can I expect from people who justify invasions and murders of other countries in the name of freedom? Jajaja

our government are incompetent clowns who either hate their country or love their country. and guess what? the few people who do love their country in the government... are neo-nazis. also our taxes, prices AND inflation are high, bureaucracy is terrible here which causes many delays in progress, our economy is in a little bit of a recession, we're facing a demographic problem similar to japan, korea, italy and your country too! and what about the immigrants? well, as weird as it sounds, we're not really welcoming the skilled immigrants with open arms, oh but illegal immigrants which do nothing to contribute to the country and instead leech off of our welfare system? let 'em in! speaking of our welfare system, did you know that here, WORKING people have to pay some MORE taxes towards the welfare system which gives money to people... WHO DON'T WORK? they essentially get free money for not working. at some point that might encourage the people who will still be in our workforce for a long time (yk, not the oldies, of which there are many), to... not work. i know for sure i've missed more problems about my country, but this is where i will end it. in conclusion, the germans and bulgarians struggle together 🇩🇪🤝🇧🇬

Very poor decision from Venezuela, poor and badly made. The reality is Russia will not want to be seen on the side of Venezuela in this coming War and already almost all the other Russian allies and sympathizers are not in support of this, Brazil, India, China, even many countries in Africa, Asia and South America. Not even Cuba will want to join Venezuela on this.
I am trying to see this on a more global South perspective and the reality is most of the West, the East and the South will not want to support Venezuela and partly cause Guyana is seen as a small nation-underdog here, coupled with the fact more is to be gained standing with Guyana than Venezuela, who themselves know what it means to be bullied by a bigger nation.
There's a proverb in Nigeria that says "who the gods want to kill they first make mad", Venezuela is very likely to invade and it will come out weaker and more devastated. In this day and age no country, not even the USA and Russia, can underestimate a country just cause its small, we've continued to see it in the past decades and even now.

The Esequibo is Historically Venezuelan Territory. The british pirates suddenly decided to draw a border and due to International weight Britain got most to internationally recognize the esequibo as theirs. and now guyana is inhereting the problems of the British. Venezuela had this as far back as the creation of the gran colombia to the Monroe Doctrine, The land was stolen not conquered its not the same as a Mexican crying because it lost its territories to USA because its conquered. Actually many Amerindian Rebels when Guyana got its independence were on Venezuelan Side. The modern problem is that venezuela is under a bad dictatorship, that's the only reason Esequibo maybe shouldn't be in venezuelan hands due to Bad Administration.
