the multiverse is a dark and dangerous place, the spark and the abilities that come with it are a source of great power, but also greater responsibility. As a white-red planeswalker, that responsibility is to preserve both order and freedom in times when both are threatened.
I'm a blue-black Planeswalker through and through. Conniving, tricky, and often indirect. I'm most satisfied when I can win by leaving my opponents with an utterly broken and empty mind, or utilizing their own creatures and spells against them. Failing that, I still have a retinue of small and evasive creatures at my disposal; thieves, assassins, spectres, and wraiths that sneak past enemy defenses to deal direct damage, slowly chipping away at them and often gaining me additional knowledge, or depriving them of theirs, as a result. Mind domination, manipulation, and fear are the name of the game for me.
I am a blue kind of plainswalker. More specifically, I am one mixed with red, which is Izzit. I an so nerdy and so creative. Let's think outside the box and play the game in new ways. I did play Izzet decks in the past. They are so much fun.
It's also worth noting that you don't need to only pick one color - tons of players like to go with whatever colors vibe with them that day! Playing many different decks is one of the best ways to find out what style of play works best for you.
Agreed. When I first started I centered my collection in two colors but as my collection grew I ended up taking in all 5. That said there are certain colors I prefer to play
The answer is black, black is honestly the best place for newbies to start, it teachs you alot of important lessons about the game notably life is just a resource and the only one that matters is the last one, and that if you can sac a creature to gain real advantage you should
Black is a great way to get into playing control or midrange, but is lacking in getting players into aggro or combo decks. I would say the best color (or rather color pair) for newbies to start with is Izzet. Being two color means you learn how to carefully tap lands, between red and blue you hit all of the major deck types (control, midrange, combo, aggro, tempo etc...), It teaches you the importance of card advantage, and (to a lesser extent than black) it teaches you that life is a resource that should be spent.
@@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle The number one hurdle i have found most players struggle with starting out is "everything is a resource dont be afraid to sac it for advantage" and black excels at making people learn that lesson, everything else just depends on the person trying to learn magic their way
I am experienced in learning the color pie. I say this is a good video to sum up the colors. There are values and mechanics. I already know where I stand. When I first got into MTG, I figured out I was blue and Izzit. When I dug deeper in the DiceTry channel, I figured out that I was also Jeskai.
I dont really play Magic - but I enjoy this colorsystem for my DnD Characters and my worldbuilding projects. You can build just the perfect characters and faction with these colors and always know their mindset
For me, I'm probably primary white with green and black as secondary colors. I'm concerned with making a world where everyone can be safe and thrive, and i believe that part of that includes taking care of nature and fulfilling our part in this world. But i also recognize that to accomplish that, you need to gain power and influence, and you can't be afraid to use the resources at your disposal.
The thing about the color pie is that I feel I relate with every color in one way or another. Nothing really represents me because everything represents me. I guess red would be the core though as my consistency is inconsistency.
This video is merely an introduction but I do believe humans are all 5 colors it's just that we lean into certain ones more than others. So I think your assertion is correct.
Everybody relates with every color and color combination, the difference is how and how much. Preference, priorities, strenght, weakness...everybody is complex.
@@DiceTry Same can be said about every MTG character (Jace, Nissa, Sorin, Lazav, Jodah, Bolas etc). If every human was clasificated as WGURB, MTG color philosophy would be useless. That's why we need to look for the most "relevant" and "omnipresent" characteristics: repetitive patterns, repetitive principles, repetitive actions, repetitive omission etc.
That's awesome yo hear. I love it not just the game itself but everything around it as well. The world's art and colors bring something to the game that others can't match
Thank you for breaking it down in terms of what the colors represent. I’m new to magic, but I’m approaching this game like any other. I want to play a character/deck that I like, mechanics be damned.
I'm gonna take a hard left here- if you're new to the game, don't pick a color over the others. Play as many different kinds of decks as you possibly can. Figure out what you like to do in the game and select the colors you need to make that happen, no matter how many or how few colors that takes.
I think U/G fits me, but I am uncertain. They are opposing forces or a duality in many ways. I often relate myself to a pendulum, going from one side to the next, but at the same time, seeking balance between the 2. My truth-seeking nature causes me to question everything, all the way down to the core of who I am, which is a problem sometimes, cause while I know who I am, I question if I know who I am...then I realize I probably don't know who I am. There are times when I rely on other's experience of me to get a better understanding of who I am outside of my own ridiculous brain.
⚪️ White is great for constantly feeling like youre behind everyone else at the table and lifegain. 🔵 Blue is awesome at controlling the table, extra turns, extra draw, and just being extremely good at many things. ⚫️ Black is great for removing threats, drawing cards, reanimating stuff that dies. Nice explanation. However it's would be nice to show, for the "lore" point of view, that while it's true that most of the white creatures are good ones and black are bad ones, this is not the full explanation. White being the color of the order and balance means also that some white creatures acts to bring that order no matter what, banishing from a city, land or even a plane any creature that, even if not a real threat, would not 100% obey to that order, acting as a fanatic and radical (a good comparison would be the crusades or the inquisition during the end of Middle age/first part of Reinassance). The fact that the second best colour for a control deck (after the obvious blue) is white is a game reflection of this In the opposite, black being the colour of "selfishness", "amorality" and "the end justifies the means" lead to many evil creatures and spells being black. However black creatures can be good as the others, with the only difference of being more pragmatic. I am the first person to give a lot of value to feelings and a moral code, but a certain degree of pragmatism is needed, since some times the white way could lead to some sort of oligarchy, or is some unreal utopy. Also i would say that in some limited measure, selfishness sometimes could lead to a self-growth. The main difference between the properties of the 2 colours (or even all the colours) is how far can you push some quality before crossing the line, making that a "flaw" or "fault"
I absolutely love Black, it has my favorite flavor and art. However I do also like Blue, Green, and White in that order. I very much like the idea of being an unrestricted and ambitious Planeswalker, and with my favorite color combination as Sultai. I love utilizing the power of Green and Blue, and accept that with life comes death, with death comes life again. An unexpected color combination I've come to start liking a lot is Mardu. I don't particularly vibe with Red but when mixed with White and especially Black, it becomes a great color combination with an order of aggression and ruthlessness
I think I was taught how to play (in 1999) on a red deck. Ultimately played a green deck but tried to make a white deck and some multicolored deck. My Green was better. I will still never forget the old art work of Wrath of God. Love it.
I have been getting into magic recently and have found myself vibing with Red and Green. While these may seem to run counter to each other I disagree, nature can be calm and peaceful at times beasts care not and live on their instincts. I'm particularly drawn to the werewolves of Innistrad, in touch with nature but animalistic fury bubbles just beneath the skin. The Green guides while the Red brings strength.
It’s funny. I was given two decks by my stepbrother for Commander- one Osygyr (Red and White) and Veyran (Blue and Red). I HATE playing Osygyr. He’s a good card, his deck is good. 9th edition was the one that got me hooked. If you can get your hands on the 9th edition Core Set decks, then you’ll have a great understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each color. That particular core set also introduces players to some of the basic mechanics of the game without being overly complicated like some of the newer stuff does (Planeswalkers and downright dumb cards like double sided, alternate design and split cards 🙄). It’s just the basics, nothing more. Those decks also were only 40 cards so they had room for you to add 20 more to tailor your deck. If those 20 weren’t enough, you could start omitting some from the original deck. They evolved easily enough with new players as they came to understand the game more and more. And to this day cards like Master Decoy will annoy the hell out of anyone…😇
for what i remember, all core set (at least all previous) are good for understanding the game (at least the ones i know and i possessed cards: 6th, 7th and 8th, the last one being the edition released when i first try).
@@alessiodaniotti264 Aye, those are great as well. I guess I’m referring to the advent of Planeswalkers and Commander decks which for me, didn’t do much. I also feel the game is getting a little heavy and a bit gimmicky with double faced cards, side printed cards, etc. To me, 9th edition (and those you mention) were the glory days. 😇
@@Tennethums1 yes i agree, the later editions and expansions made the game more heavy to understand. I never played a Commander game, but I think the new official format itself is not a problem, the main issues is when there are cards printed in later years that are made in particular for that format, while being a waste in classic matches. Plus the planeswalker were hard to balance with the rest of the game. Another thing i don't like in recent years is that some new features are made with Magic Arena in mind, but are awful in a paper card match (like some abilities like "exploring the dungeon" or the "night/day" cycles... what a pain in the axx taking record of the cycle). Is like Wizard had forgot that the game is also and mainly a trade card game, and not a console or PC RPG
Thank you, I will check that core sets. sounds wonderful. I was introduced to magic through new player starter blue set of 60 cards (2019), can played by 2 players. 30 cards each
@@alessiodaniotti264 yes! Dungeons and Night/Day. Dumb! I guess they have to introduce stuff like that to keep it new and exciting. But it seems a lot of it is falling short with players. I still just have my 60 card mono color decks and they are easy enough and fun enough that when our regular board gaming member come over, we play and enjoy them without having to have 50 tokens on the table (or Food or Treasure or…🙄)
Quick question: what is that card/art at the start of the green section with the person summoning the leaf-wolf? Because that pic is dope. Also red is definitely my top vibe with green and blue vying for a close second place.
When I first decided to make a legit mtg deck I used a pretty valuable tip which was sticking to one or teo colors. It helps narrow down your options. The first deck I made was a mono red aggro deck. What about you guys?
As someone who's always favored monored, i really adore the way you described the color, and I'll def be using this vid whenever someone wants to learn abt the color pie
White - the worst color when it comes to resources. Blue - the opponents asking me if they are allowed to play 😂 Black - sacrificing everything for the sake of power. My life well that’s just a resource. Red - out of gas real fast 😂 very chaotic Green - mainly big creatures and huge growth. probably the strongest and best color. I mean, literally you can do everything. The other colors can.
Same. I like it's vibe of being visually merciful and just, providing truth, hope, but inside wanting massacre with blood reavers, serving satanic creatures and unseen Lovecraftian gods
At first I thought I was white because I like to befriend my enemy. Then I realized I just don't like MTG because it's competitive. I'm gonna go look for something co-op. :p
In many ways what you belive in and what you play can be different. I am more bant but I love esper. This is more about what planeswalker you want to be within magic
It's hard to summarize my ideals with typical language, as the four-color combos don't really have names. I guess technically I could be called Glint-Eye, after the nephilim without white, but no-one ever says that. I'm more like Grixis with a splash of green than anything else, in descending order of Blue, Red, Black, and then Green. I sure can't vibe with white though, hate that
I’m someone who’s never played Magic but loves playing Marvel Snap. I mainly play cards like Carnage Angel Nova Bucky Barnes Wolverine Killmonger Deathlok and so on. I like destroying cards. I feel like Black is my best bet. But was wondering if any players who played both Marvel Snap and Magic had any thoughts on it.
I'm 7 months late and only just started playing Marvel Snap but I think your best bet may actually be black-red. Marvel Snap seems to have a lot of combos and synergy and I haven't quite got far enough to know exactly how a "destroy" deck works, but if you're wanting a deck where you kill a lot of stuff and have abilities triggering whenever things die, I'd go with black-red. You could do the same with mono-black but it's a little different, more focused on filling up your own graveyard and returning creatures from the dead and paying life to get other abilities and stuff. Adding red gives you some extra damage on your opponent instead of yourself.
I have watched probably 3-4 hours worth of content on picking the best color. What I've gotten from that fact alone is I am NOT red lol. Impulse? What is that?
When I started I though blue is my colour because I just like blue as a colour itself. Then I realized blue inhabits the most toxic and detrimental playstyle of all the colours and hate it ever since. What point is there playing a game with somebody if the whole point of your plays is that the other player can't play (counterspells, milling crazy fast, skiping the opponents turn, bouncing) I am a mostly green player now as I feel that is how the game should be played, paired with some red, some black and rarly white but avoid blue like the pague and concede when the first counterspell is cast. As I have no buisness in just watching someone else play.
“The Blackest Night falls from the skies, The darkness grows as all light dies, We crave your hearts and your demise, By my black hand-The dead shall rise!” Black all the way!
When I first tried, red was said to be aggressive. So I tried it. It did not feel aggressive, it just felt like there was no plan just attack and hope you dont die. Green is Aggressive, red is just impulsive. Red, green and blue is a good balance.
@DiceTry In gameplay I tend to lean on black, because I can kill little by little with draining effects. I don't like going to combat, I'm not aggressive haha. Very political player
I'd say red tends to be my least favorite overall, I don't really enjoy the style of creatures, same with white, to an extent I don't enjoy playing small creatures, I want big creatures and control spells, and buffs to make the creatures even bigger 😁
As a started knowing almost nothing id pick a mono red deck even if i seem to like green better, like the forest theme, the more mana thing, a little more draw...
So I got to know what kind of Planeswalker are you?

I still just have my 60 card mono color decks and they are easy enough and fun enough that when our regular board gaming member come over, we play and enjoy them without having to have 50 tokens on the table (or Food or Treasure or…🙄)
ME LIKE
GREEN
BLACK
AND WHITE
:D
me like counters, and big ! and lot of mana
so yeah... Green. hahaha.
If you're a beginner... green. That's the answer.
After you get the hang of it go green + red or green + red + blue.
Stil trying to figure out where I should start for my very first deck
As someone who's always favored monored, i really adore the way you described the color, and I'll def be using this vid whenever someone wants to learn abt the color pie
Best colour to play MTG is green. Because Dollars are green. And you will need a lot A LOT of this resource. So choose green.
Just started playing on my tablet I feel like I’m in limbo between black and white
White - the worst color when it comes to resources.
Blue - the opponents asking me if they are allowed to play 😂
Black - sacrificing everything for the sake of power. My life well that’s just a resource.
Red - out of gas real fast 😂 very chaotic
Green - mainly big creatures and huge growth. probably the strongest and best color. I mean, literally you can do everything. The other colors can.
I am solidly orzhov. White and black have always been two of my favorite colors. Though red and green feel like they could be a solid third color.
Same. I like it's vibe of being visually merciful and just, providing truth, hope, but inside wanting massacre with blood reavers, serving satanic creatures and unseen Lovecraftian gods
Mardu for life
Boros
Rakdos
Orzhov
Mono of each
Aggro, aristocrat and tribals
Tribal angels, knights, dragons, and vampires
At first I thought I was white because I like to befriend my enemy. Then I realized I just don't like MTG because it's competitive. I'm gonna go look for something co-op. :p
*cough*
Only came here for red
If I had to pick 1 color i am team green all day long. 2 colors I'm simic (though Gruul is close), 3 colors I'm obviously temur.
keeo going man..you are lovely
dude the drum track in the background is driving me mad
When this tells me that I'm clearly Grixis but I play nothing but Jund 😅
In many ways what you belive in and what you play can be different. I am more bant but I love esper. This is more about what planeswalker you want to be within magic
It's hard to summarize my ideals with typical language, as the four-color combos don't really have names. I guess technically I could be called Glint-Eye, after the nephilim without white, but no-one ever says that. I'm more like Grixis with a splash of green than anything else, in descending order of Blue, Red, Black, and then Green. I sure can't vibe with white though, hate that
Sometimes a planeswalker has no time for order I can appreciate that
Same Grixis here,I don’t understand white, they protect something which will only see them as protector rather than a person.
Hi new in magic the gathering, i really like blue+green deck but I am currently trying different builds
Dimir information, assasins and rogue I don't sure about myself but I love idea
Thank you, I think I want to play as a combo of green/blue
No mention of colorless???
FYI to any new viewers, 1.75x speed is the sweet spot for watching this 👍
I’m someone who’s never played Magic but loves playing Marvel Snap.
One thing I would say is that there's always exceptions to every rule almost in the game of magic.
When did black become purple?
Which one has the most dragons
Philosophically, I'm with red. Gameplay, I'm with white/green.
I can understand that. Philosophically I am blue/white but I love to play mono black
@@DiceTry nice. I would recommend that if you haven't already, try a deck with all 3 of the colors. I'm trying to do the same
Check your email plz, I sent you a request for a response so I can attatch some photos you will enjoy using for your videos.
Will do
I just played magic right out of a starter deck. Got a Green-White deck and had a blast
and after you have ur own loved deck, you played magic arena and now you play meta decks.
How do I know what deck to start with??
I have watched probably 3-4 hours worth of content on picking the best color. What I've gotten from that fact alone is I am NOT red lol. Impulse? What is that?
What’s the piano piece in the first ten seconds of the video from?
Started with green when it was bad and because no one wanted the cards so they gave then to me.
Are we aloud to say, "white" and "black" anymore???
I watch this video like 3 times a week
Bant is my preference
When I started I though blue is my colour because I just like blue as a colour itself. Then I realized blue inhabits the most toxic and detrimental playstyle of all the colours and hate it ever since. What point is there playing a game with somebody if the whole point of your plays is that the other player can't play (counterspells, milling crazy fast, skiping the opponents turn, bouncing)
I am a mostly green player now as I feel that is how the game should be played, paired with some red, some black and rarly white but avoid blue like the pague and concede when the first counterspell is cast. As I have no buisness in just watching someone else play.
“The Blackest Night falls from the skies, The darkness grows as all light dies, We crave your hearts and your demise, By my black hand-The dead shall rise!” Black all the way!
White.
My 2 favourite collors are red and green but i hate gruul😂
When I first tried, red was said to be aggressive. So I tried it. It did not feel aggressive, it just felt like there was no plan just attack and hope you dont die. Green is Aggressive, red is just impulsive. Red, green and blue is a good balance.
I'm Bant with huge focus on Green
Personally I'm there with you. In game play though I'm esper
What card is the skull head guy from the into?
What song was this at 6:24
I will always be the hated blue player, dimir for life
This video it’s amazingly well done!
I'm more the kind to turbo out big creatures and go bonk, so I guess Green/Red and maybe some black is what i'd play.
Be damned by the golgari swarm!!
Yeah it's ok but lacks more information on the game, how you are able to create more then one color of decks also how they can be managed together.
What would colorless mean?
I actually made a video covering my ideas on colorless ruclips.net/video/qgnEqR8ORRo/видео.html
As a started knowing almost nothing id pick a mono red deck even if i seem to like green better, like the forest theme, the more mana thing, a little more draw...
I prefer black and combinations of black. My fave decks are mono or dimir besides colorless and thats a whole different can of worms
