Even if you somehow missed one or two projects, I don't think it matters. This is easily the most comprehensive collection of cancelled Sonic projects out there on RUclips. You should be extremely proud! Fantastic job!

Nitrome took Sonic day and made into Leap Day which is a really fun game even without sonic in it. I used to play Leap a day quite consistently back then and if I knew the game was originally a sonic game I would have been blown away.

With Sonic X, technically the original pitch was “canceled” since it was shown to take place on Mobius (or “Sonic’s World” as it was called in the anime) due to the population of Station Square having anthro characters. Most of the pilot was reused in the Sonic X Japanese opening “Sonic Drive.” Of course the main thing people remember about this pilot was the radical redesign of Super Sonic which became the infamous Nazo character which of course was reimagined as the main antagonist in ChakraX’s The Power of Nazo and Nazo Unleashed fan films as well as the canceled sequel Wrath of Nazo.

This game had a Sonic Official Level Maker that used Sonic 1 assets and even had an exclusive Zone 7 added to it that seemed more a Sonic CD zone in terms of style with a Sonic 4 theme song. Despite there being many Flash preservation projects from both Sonic Flash Games and Sonic Flash Websites (Microsites), Sonic and the Level Creator is one of those games that was never preserved and unfortunately last time I checked it could not be played, which is a shame. As an extra add on, Sonic Synergy was being built on the latest version of the Cryware Engine, which was not compatible with the Wii U. Essentially, Red Button had to do the game from scratch with a new engine with a tight deadline.

Also I don't remember which issue it was but in the Archie Comics around 1997 or so, In an interview with Tails writen toward the back of the comic. He mentioned a game called Virtua-Sonic which was in the works. I wonder if this is a long lost game or if it turned into something like Sonic R or Sonic Ride.

1:28:05 Japanese/French Translator here. For anybody wondering about volume 2... yeah there's only 11 pages that are actual comics in it. The rest is a game guide. I read through it and the comics are mainly sonic/knuckles doing a tiny bit of remenscing and that's it. Great intresting video, defenetly a bit more acurate information than the last one, however as one of the 4 ppl in the world that like sonic 4 I need to say that only ep2 was a comercial failure, ep 1 sold 1milion copies and at the time of its release recived favorable reviews. If you see "some call me jhonhy" one of his first videos is a sonic 4 review and I think he liked it at the time.
Sonic “Crackers” is actually called Sonic Clackers. Due to a translation error, it was accidentally called Crackers. Clackers are the toys that has like one string with 2 balls connected to the end. It was supposed to be like 2 characters with a clacker. Sort of how the physics worked in the final version of Knuckles Chaotix. [Info from Big Sleeter btw you should watch his content]

Misfit pack got canceled almost one year ago, while S2 Mania is missing a lot of bosses and a lot of Stages was not finished, like the Metropolis Zone, Sky Chase with no enemies, Wing Fortress with nothing than the tilesets, and Sand Shower, Wind Ocean and Cyber City was also not finished. Both got canceled :( the misfit ''final'' build is way more buggy than the demos we got in SAGE...

I do remember hearing rumours about the Sonic Adventure remake back in the day. From what I heard, It had the same problem as MW2R, where they couldn't decide whether they wanted to fix all the glitches, sound issues, voice acting and buggy animations. There were playtests of a demo, but it was very disliked as it was too different from the original game. I've also heard supposed rumours that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was intentionally sabotaged by Sega as a tax write off (Similar to Superman 64). Take this one with a pinch of salt though

It’s a miracle that the company hasn’t gone under, and they almost did in 2015. Sonic was on the path of extinction before the movie saved it and brought it back to relevance
sonic 4 ep 2 wii was canceled cuz nintendo didn't allow the file size for the wii ware games to exceed a certain amount, it was impossible to fit the game for ep 1 they had to remade the music in MIDI so they can fit the game in the file size limit
Could You please provide the sources for that whole Knuckles Chaotix related projects? That's the first time I've had heard of it. I was pretty sure, that the only Saturn related Chaotix project was version that run on OG Saturn.
The old Movie Sonic design wasn't a publicity stunt. It was actually gonna be used. The on set eye reference prop was of the old design all the first movie's merch aside from books and plushies used the old design, leaked screenshots of early scenes of the film had the old design, they actually were gonna use it. If it was a publicity stunt, the movie wouldn't have gotten delayed.
from what i've heard, way back in early 1993, sega wanted to make sonic 3, a 3d game, and that 3d game idea was too obnoxious, so sometime in june 1993, sonic team started working on the sonic 3 we all know and love, which might be why they split it in two. there wasnt enough time to make a full game like that. and that cancelled 3d game idea mightve been Sonic STI, but then evolved into sonic 3d blast.
Sonic 4 on the sega saturn wouldve been INCREDIBLE. The saturn is a monster when it comes to 2d graphics and they couldve went absolutely hog wild with it. That project being cancelled for nothing was legit tragic, one of the worst decisions they made
In my opinion archie sonic is up there in terms of being One of the most unfortunate. Cancelations in sonic history It was different in the fact that. They put thought and cared into what they made most of the time at least 😅 as a huge sonic fan growing up that wanted every thing sonic they played such a huge role in my life and they will always have a special place in my heart

I have a theory that the sequel to sonic chronicles was reworked into either forces or unleashed, forces being the most likely one Both share similarities to the original sequel idea but forces shares more OG: going around the world amassing an army Forces: does that too OG: Taking down the eggman empire in a war Forces: huh, does that too OG: Big bad manipulating things behind the scenes Forces: ...KIINNNDDA does that and unleashed shares some of these too, this could be wrong so take this with a grain of salt tho

1:28:05 Japanese/French Translator here. For anybody wondering about volume 2... yeah there's only 11 pages that are actual comics in it. The rest is a game guide. I read through it and the comics are mainly sonic/knuckles doing a tiny bit of remenscing and that's it. Imo it's not really worth translating but I could throw out a google doc with the translation if people really want it.
Moral of the story is if you’re working on a Sonic game that has some form of the word “extreme” in it, quit while you’re ahead

I completely agree! I didnt mean that sonic 3 complete wasnt better then orgins, i meant that there are easier and more accessible ways of playing it for people since not everyone wants to use roms and emulators and or go out to find a flash cart

Great intresting video, defenetly a bit more acurate information than the last one, however as one of the 4 ppl in the world that like sonic 4 I need to say that only ep2 was a comercial failure, ep 1 sold 1milion copies and at the time of its release recived favorable reviews. If you see "some call me jhonhy" one of his first videos is a sonic 4 review and I think he liked it at the time.
It's depressing how much wasted potential many of these titles had, and it goes to show how imperfect we are as humans

Sonic “Crackers” is actually called Sonic Clackers. Due to a translation error, it was accidentally called Crackers. Clackers are the toys that has like one string with 2 balls connected to the end. It was supposed to be like 2 characters with a clacker. Sort of how the physics worked in the final version of Knuckles Chaotix.

Misfit pack got canceled almost one year ago, while S2 Mania is missing a lot of bosses and a lot of Stages was not finished, like the Metropolis Zone, Sky Chase with no enemies, Wing Fortress with nothing than the tilesets, and Sand Shower, Wind Ocean and Cyber City was also not finished.
Both got canceled :( the misfit ''final'' build is way more buggy than the demos we got in SAGE...

sonic sat am, is a gem, i remember finding it when i was little and was awe struck. i was used to the other show and was blown away with a serious show. i can't remember but i wanted to see super sonic in the show.. i don't think they did.. as silly as the ova is.. i adore it lol.
Man Sega should bring back Sonic Orgins and Sonic Synergy and hire the original development team again and give them the time they need to make these games extremely great and extremely awesome and I know Sonic synergy was basically the same thing as sonic orgins with a few changes but still Sega should do smart and good ideas such as bringing these games back

I do remember hearing rumours about the Sonic Adventure remake back in the day. From what I heard, It had the same problem as MW2R, where they couldn't decide whether they wanted to fix all the glitches, sound issues, voice acting and buggy animations. There were playtests of a demo, but it was very disliked as it was too different from the original game.
I've also heard supposed rumours that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was intentionally sabotaged by Sega as a tax write off (Similar to Superman 64). Take this one with a pinch of salt though

Sonic day reminds me a lot of the nitrome game Leap day. They play mostly the same. It is similar to it’s act and day system.

sonic 4 ep 2 wii was canceled cuz nintendo didn't allow the file size for the wii ware games to exceed a certain amount, it was impossible to fit the game
for ep 1 they had to remade the music in MIDI so they can fit the game in the file size limit

The old Movie Sonic design wasn't a publicity stunt. It was actually gonna be used. The on set eye reference prop was of the old design all the first movie's merch aside from books and plushies used the old design, leaked screenshots of early scenes of the film had the old design, they actually were gonna use it. If it was a publicity stunt, the movie wouldn't have gotten delayed.
from what i've heard, way back in early 1993, sega wanted to make sonic 3, a 3d game, and that 3d game idea was too obnoxious, so sometime in june 1993, sonic team started working on the sonic 3 we all know and love, which might be why they split it in two. there wasnt enough time to make a full game like that. and that cancelled 3d game idea mightve been Sonic STI, but then evolved into sonic 3d blast.
Yea I heard that all the 3D sprites in it (title screen, special stages) are leftovers of that
Sonic 4 on the sega saturn wouldve been INCREDIBLE. The saturn is a monster when it comes to 2d graphics and they couldve went absolutely hog wild with it. That project being cancelled for nothing was legit tragic, one of the worst decisions they made

In my opinion archie sonic is up there in terms of being One of the most unfortunate. Cancelations in sonic history It was different in the fact that. They put thought and cared into what they made most of the time at least 😅 as a huge sonic fan growing up that wanted every thing sonic they played such a huge role in my life and they will always have a special place in my heart

It’s not related to sonic but around the same time we got 10 Super Mario, 2 legend of Zelda and 2 lemmings game books too. All were fantastic. There might have been more but that’s all I ever saw as a kid.
For the sonic books. I could probably find you scans of the 4 that I mentioned. I noticed you showed them in the pic but didn’t talk about them. They’re super hard to find so it’s no surprise if you missed them. After a decade plus of searching. I actually find the books on Amazon of all places lol but I’m pretty sure I could find the scans on the internet if you wanted them.
