I built a chicken coop for my daughter about 2 years ago with basically zero experience in wood work, it turned out ok thanks to youtube videos that showed how to make trusses and walls etc etc so what youre doing is great for inspiration! Life is throwing me curve balls so I'm without tools/machinery to do the things id love to do . Ive got 2 kiddos and the things id like to build are for my wife and babies and we have a 4 legged "Baby" who is 8months. Our 2 legged babies are almost 4 and 1 yr old :) Thank you for reply comment and keep up the great work! Great video and detailed instructions. :) One question ... why do you use a level for jointing the boards? I know you're getting a straight edge but what's the advantage over using just the fence? EDIT: Found your video on this technique and now it make sense. :)

  • @barrykery1175
    @barrykery1175 3 года назад +1

    Thanks to your video, I made almost that exact same table. My legs were 1-3/4 x 1- 3/4" legs and I also used 1 x 4's for the side panels. When I told my wife the bottom was going to be white, she said, "White ?" I said, "Just wait." Once done and put into service, she loved it. The white really makes the stained wood stand out.
    For the top I married 2" x 6" boards together. Try finding true, unwarped wood at a big box store. I had to do a lot of planing to get the top perfect. No, I can't shoot wood through a table top planer, don't have one.
    That was a fun project.
    Thanks for posting. Great informative video.

    Trying this build for myself. Got the frame built up and got the legs all even only to have them wobbly again a week later. Any advice? Didnt think it would move once I had em even the first time

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  3 года назад +1

      It shouldn't move after it is assembled. If it is wobbly, figure out which leg is long and take a sander (or circular saw) and trim that leg very little at a time until it's stable.

    I'm curious why you didn't use the same Z-clips on the bottom shelf as you did the table top? Won't it expand and force the legs apart?

      I don’t think that it would cause an issue on the bottom and it’s easier for me to do it that way.

    Hello. I found your videos today and am enjoying them. I am thinking about woodworking as a retirement job(?), hobby. I watched the pricing video and appreciated you posting the information. I looked at the comments to the end table video but may have missed it. How much time did you have in one end table? I assume you sell projects on social media. As another avenue, I was thinking about flea markets. Do you sell at flea markets?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  3 года назад +1

      The level moves with the board, thereby giving the board a straight edge to reference. If you just use the fence, the edge being cut is referencing the other side of the board. Which is typically never truly straight.

      @@731Woodworks I'm still confused. however out-of-true the other side of the board is , as measured against the opposite side , having it against the the level OR the fence wouldn't bring it into true. both the level and the fence are straight edges.
      if the board isn't even across it's width , whether it's against a fence , level , or any other straight edge won't by itself , square it up. just my thoughts.

    With the poor quality of dimensional lumber at Lowes, I have run my boards through my planer to cut down on my sanding time. My first end table build I neglected to plane my 2X6 to the same height as my 2X4's for the frame. Next time i will make sure to plane them both at the same time.

    I just used my 36" clamp when putting the boards together with the glue/pocket screws and the finished top turned out warped like, or unlevel if I were to put the legs on it. If I use the Kreg clamps on the ends like you do in the video, will that help in the future with that problem?
