Chunky Farmhouse Coffee Table with Breadboard Ends

- Let me show you how I built this farmhouse coffee table using plans I found on the internet (linked below). This build features the X coffee table design using 4x4 legs for that chunky farmhouse coffee table look. The contrast of the distressed painted base with stained top gives it that farmhouse look. The wax sealed finish gives it a nice satin glow that you'll love. This project was completed using the farmhouse coffee table plans linked below as well as the breadboard end top how-to video linked below. I combined the 2 to make this coffee table. This is an easy to build coffee table that anyone can do with a few tools. Try the coffee table plans below to build one for yourself. Check out the links below to the tools and supplies used in this build. Amazon affiliate links are used in this description and they help support this channel.

What edge guide are you using for you router
It’s the one that came with the Ridgid cordless router.
Hi thanks for the videos I'm looking to try to start up kind of a home business maybe semi-retire been working in factories for 30 years going to give it a shot thanks for your videos
Go for it!
one more thing I don't know if it's possible but can you show compared to comprable pricing for the items so I can get a general idea thank you
It puts a smile on my face when a man says..."Im proud of it" Take pride in your creations...it's the warm fuzzy you get after a job well done. Cheers 731 woodworks!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the videos you're a true inspiration starting my first woodwork this week and its all because of your positive talking
God bless you and your family keep the good work coming
Glad to hear it! Let me know how your project turns out
This seams to be an annual event. Back again for a refresher course. Making another table for my grandson.
Love the tables and noodle board.BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!!!
I think you have one of the finest woodworking channel. Great pacing. Enough instruction but not redundant. Great choice of music.
Wow. I appreciate that
Fully agree, I had watched half of his videos before I realised he only had 80k subscribers.
I see big things in your future 731
👊🏻
I have to agree with this too. I've only watched a few of Matt's videos, but he does a great job of not wasting a lot of time. One of the most annoying things I find on RUclips is posters putting up a 25 minute video, but there is honestly only 10 minutes worth of content. I watched a video a week or so back and the poster had mentioned he needed a certain tool, and went to grab it, and it wasn't where he thought it was. So instead of editing this out, he left in the video while he looked through most of his cabinets and drawers. He knew it was waste of time because he edited that portion to be time-lapsed so it didn't waste "as much" time, but to me, if you have to time lapse something like that, it should be a good clue to just entirely cut that part out. I've never seen Matt waste time like that. He will time-lapse a portion of video and then do a voice over to briefly explain what is happening to save time, which I greatly appreciate. I think Matt does an excellent job of including enough information so most wood workers can complete the task well, and expresses this in a time-conscious manner.
@@Troy-Echo Exactly,
I've used different poly's in the past, but the satin finish you use looked so awesome that I had to try it. I ordered it from Rockler as well as the table top fasteners you use. There isn't a harsh smell at all and after 3 coats (sanding in between with 320) it came out fantastic! Thanks for showing us that, and I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to try the General Finishes topcoat.
That’s great to hear! So glad it helped you.
I LOVE you work and plan on using your plans for some end tables and a coffee table in my living room. Thanks for showing your process.
This guy doesn’t miss!! Bravo sir.
Matt, I love your videos. They're all no nonsense. It is what it is. That's the way I like it. You're a good teacher. I just want to thank you for documenting what you do, and then editing your videos. I don't know much about editing, but I'm sure it's as time consuming as the build itself. I just want you to know, I truly appreciate learning from you. I'm a fifty two year old wannabe, but I'm trying.
I appreciate that. Typically a 15-20 minute video takes me about 6 to 8 hours to edit and post.
I've seen others building a similar table but yours is, by far, the only one that looks like high end furniture.
Awesome. Thank you
God bless you brother! Thank you so much for your humble attitude as you share your knowledge with us.
Thank you
Back again for a refresher course. I'm making another one for our daughter. Great instructions.
Awesome 👏
Awesome man!! Love the way you use to distress that’s so simple! Can’t wait to get a miniature of these for night stands. Gonna do a headboard and maybe bed frame for our master bedroom. Super stoked to have found your channel!
That’ll be awesome
Heck ya brother you should be proud your work is incredible! On a side note your also an amazing marriage counselor without even knowing!
With your videos you make it possible for guys like myself to create these projects to impress my wife the entire time taking all the credit telling her I just whipped it up off the top of my head when in reality it took me between 10 and 67 times of watching your videos🤣
All jokes aside thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us that may have the tools to do these projects but lack the knowledge! You have gotten a new and thankful subscriber.
🤣 I appreciate the kind words!
Love the white work bench, lol
Great tips and techniques with all of the different products used on the project. I have to watch it again to write everything down. Enjoyed it.
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful!
I love how the table came out! I just delivered a rustic dining table to a customer last weekend and they have already ordered a matching coffee table. I'll definitely be using some of the tips I learned in your videos. I used a satin lacquer finish for the dining table, but I didn't put any paste wax on it. I may try it with the coffee table to see how much better it comes out. Thanks for the great videos!
Awesome. Glad the video helped.
To the Op: As far as 'grain popping'. You could try and hit the base with a light coat of brushed water and let it dry before applying paint.
Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial and answer all the questions. I just made mine and wouldn’t have turned out this good without your guidance.
Thank you. Glad it helped you out!
Man, you are amazing at explaining your videos. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you
I just subscribed. I like you. You are relateable, show a lot, and tell your secrets. One of these days I will get around to building some of "your" projects. I have all the tools that you showed and more, so I'm good to go.
Awesome! Thanks for subscribing.
Hey one way to save you from having to cut those cross member pieces, you could mark the angle that your using and do a half lap joint instead.
thanks for the tip!
Man...that will help me a lot for my current project. Those Breadboard ends. Thank you
Your board butter works great also. Been using it for many years on toys and it holds up great.
This is definitely a project I want to try, its just beautiful. One question though, can you use pocket holes and screws for the breadboard ends instead of dowels?
It’s not recommended because of the wood movement may cause it to split
If I understand this right you have this coffee table sold already. Do you take a deposit if so at what percentage. The Johnson wax is that just regular auto paste wax. Thanks for your videos you have taught me a lot. At 62 I was hurt on the job and was forced into retirement. I have decided to get into wood working and bowl turning. I watch everything you do 2-3 times because you never stop learning and even though I have worked with wood of some sort all my life I still have a lot to learn. Also thanks for not being afraid to tell everyone that you’re a Christian. This day and time Christian are under attack and a lot of us hide the fact that we are. I am now 66 and starting a new career so keep the videos coming and I’ll keep learning. Thanks your brother in Christ. Rick
I could watch you build all day 😉👍🏽
Thank you
Looks great! I’m working on a coffee table just like that right now! It’s all built, just sanding it now before painting and staining. Love the wax thing! I’m gonna do that on mine. Love your videos!
Nice.
How much did you sell the table for? Great looking table btw!!
Thank you. For this size they are $350.
@@731Woodworks ok. Thanks. You've inspired me to do more!! So far I've made CORNHOLE boards, serving trays and a custom for cabinet for my man cave. Definitely want to get into making tables.
Quick question, do you have to add those bread ends to that table? Is it for a look or stability purpose? Also, for you have to use those brackets that you made the slots for or can you just do more pocket holes for all of it?
@@4everabeast79 Bread board ends are just for looks. It is not recommended to pocket hole the table top to the frame due to it restricts natural wood movement. There are some fasteners called figure 8 fasteners that don't require cutting slots.
Matt, is that $350 for the coffee table, alone right??
How much for the two end tables, for one & the pair??
I’d go $125 each on end tables at least.
Absolutely beautiful. Great job Matt. Really enjoy your videos. I learn a lot each time I view one. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. Glad the videos help
Great job! You are a master craftsman. Thank you for sharing your project.
As a new woodworker your channel is a great help.
Glad to help
That's a very nice table. Gotta make me one exactly like it. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks!
Great job, brother. Love the passion and the pride in your work!
Thank you
Thank you Matt
You're welcome
I love those stove tops, believe me I can use all the extra space I can get
Those x’s are the Bain of my existence! Can’t ever get them to come out perfect
It’s tough
Fantastic work love it and the way you make people feel that they could all do the same.
Thank you very much!
So beautiful coffe table
Thank you
Awesome tutorial. I just finished mine, but I used a section of reclaimed bowling lane floor. Came out awesome. Thanks for the help.
I bet that looks awesome!
just finished this table and brought it home. your info and descriptions were very helpful. good job. my table turned out great absolutely love the wax finish
Awesome to hear!
It would've never crossed my mind to use a steel wool on a finished top. Great tip. That is a beautiful piece if furniture. Great job brother.
Thank you very much!
I have to make one of these! I love your step by step process of explaining what you are doing without making it complicated. Fist bump to ya 👊
Thank you! Fist bump back 👊🏻
Thank you for all the great detail in this this video. The explanations are extremely helpful to a novice woodworker! 👍🏻😀 Wish me luck, I’m gonna give it a try!
Glad they help you.
Absolutely Gorgeous
Thank you!
Beautiful
Just finished the build on this table. Turned out really nice. I used everything you recommended and it went pretty smooth. My wife’s birthday gift and she loves it. Thanks for the video and advice. That paint sprayer did work well.
Great to hear!
That came out excellent. Had it couldn't be any more simple to make. Good work
Thank you
Coffee table came out beautiful!!
Thank you!
New to wood work (started last week!) built a planter now looking for more inspiration and help and found your channel. I must say, out of all the communities on YT the wood work community seems really positive and helpful. Thank you for being part of it.
Awesome! Thank you!
Really nice work having my husband watch to build one
I just picked up a sprayer with your affiliate link. I've referred back to this video many times for a project i'm working on. I really appreciate your time and effort to share with us. Thanks a bunch!
I really appreciate that
Just getting into woodworking and have watched a lot of your videos! Thinking about trying to build this for my mom for Christmas!
Go for it!
Thanks for this video. I'm going to start on this tomorrow.
Great job, i think that technique of staining under the white, looks great, ill be trying that out for sure
Thanks
Excellent video with lots of detail. Final product is excellent and well, thanks for vids, you rock!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you so much. Truly Appreciated. I learned a lot
Nice table! This idea was just what I needed to finish my living room. Good to see someone from close by my hometown (Redbug Country) on RUclips.
Thanks! We have friends over that way.
@@731Woodworks awesome I live in Florida now but I'm sure I likely know them. Grew up there moved here in 2007.
Great Video. I did a 3 wood RV Table with Breadboard ends and Live edge. How you installed the ends is exactly how I did mine. Thank you for the video..
I built the blanket ladder today. I sanded then lightly torched it and gloss poly. Looks great. I also made the sides to this table. Ended up having to get a miter saw. 12” Rigid compound sliding blah blah. Need a few supplies to finish up this table build. Thanks for the inspiration and clear instructions.
Awesome
Beautiful job Matt. I am inspired. Thank you for all of the great and very informative videos.
I've always wanted to build these kinds of items as a side gig. I love woodworking.
Go for it!
AWESOME information in this video as far as finishing. I am working on a computer desk for a co-worker and i plan to use your tip with the 1000 grit sandpaper. Thanks again.
👊🏻
I am happy for you it looks awesome
Thank you for inspiring me to make a version of this and start an Etsy shop. I just sold my first project.
Congrats!
Thanks for the video brother I copied these plans and built one for my wife today she absolutely loves it
Great 👍
Great video and table! Thanks for sharing, I’m definitely giving this build a go! 👍🏻
It turned out really nice!
My 6 year old loves it
Beautiful!! Great work as always, Matt!!
I kind of enjoy sanding large panels by putting something good on the airpods and I find that it slows me down and steady. I basically go on autopilot for awhile. 😂 I usually start at 80 grit instead of starting with 120 and having to focus every here and there. I love your channel man! Just finishing a batch of Matthew Peech’s plans. Looking forward to building some of yours this summer!!!
Thanks for the excellent video and links. I made one and loved how it turned out. You made a believer out of me with the Johnson Wax. I will be using it going forward as well
Thank you. Check out the Trewax (recent video I made) if you want a clear wax that doesn’t leave the yellow tint
Nice table. I’ll be making table like this for my patio. At work we throw away 4x4x4 hard heavy woods used to strap heavy steel coils. I’ve been taking them home about 8 pieces a week. So far i have collected over 100. I’ll be using those. I should get into this business since i get woods for free!!!
awesome
Very, very beautiful work. Wood working is something I been seriously thinking about doing for a long time. Love the videos.
Thank you
Beautiful table! Very descriptive video narration
I like the way you explain it!! You don't use a bunch of words I've got 2look up first
thanks
I enjoyed the build doing this tomorrow for the wife as a surprise. Also loved the flags in the back.. SEMPER FI BROTHER.. yeah I see those colors in the back .. subscribed
Awesome! Thank you
Great project for my new home. I’m hopeful to close on the 28th of August, if all goes well with the closing. It should. I’m going to make the same tables except for just a little larger. The rooms are massive. The living room is 23x15 and the bedrooms are 18x16 and 18 x13. It’s got a very large basement/rec room downstairs 23x28 that I can use as my wood working shop and upholstery making station. You and some other you tubers have inspired me to create my own furniture seeing how easy it really is. And how much money it will save me too. I saved a lot by making my own kitchen cabinets in this house I’m in now. I did all the moulding myself too. No reason I can’t make my own furniture. Thanks
Sounds great! You will save a ton of money doing it yourself
Beautiful table,thank you
Thank you! 😊
I liked the way you used the wax after you used the Polyurethane.
I’m in love with this table! I’m going to make one tomorrow.
Go for it!
How you doing on that table? Econo: Old pallets work great I heard, with a vast amount of sanding, I would guess.
@@devilpup76.2nd my wife pointed out my unfinished projects. That’s what has happened so far, unfortunately.
Just wanted to let u know that I like your channel very much..keep these videos coming...thank you much
I appreciate that
Nice work looks good glad you brought up the cedar fence all ways forget about using them but I won's next time
Love this table, my wife loves it as well so I am in the process of building her one. I just have to build the top now, I had a to built but she didn't like the color of the stain so I painted it grey and she don't like that either 🤦♂️ so now I just build a whole new top.
Ha.
That is a beautiful piece!
Great job on the table. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Thanks! Glad you like the videos.
Great job. Really nice clean work. Thank You.
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I'm definitely trying this. Whish I had known about some of these tricks. Keep them coming. 👌🏽💪🏽
Go for it
Awesome How-To Bro! I love the chunky style with the 4x's ... looks great!
Thank you
I’m obsessed with this table. I want to make one for my son. I’m going to try to make most of his furniture when he gets his house. I want him to have hand made pieces.
Will definitely look at making one of these! Great video 👍🏻😊
Thanks 👊🏻
I like your videos, they have great details. Found you via you tube algorithm recommendation and glad it did. As a time saver, plus I hate finishing wood, I've been using laminate flooring, that looks like a finish I want as furniture. For example "Pergo Seabrook Walnut 10 mm" or "Thornbury Oak 10 mm" found at HD. Lowes has some good stuff too. It should be at least 10mm thick. Which is about 3/8" thick. I would nail it to 1/4" or thick plywood, plus glue. Surprisingly laminate has some great durability qualities. Of course it may not be what your clients would like, but I use it for my home projects. My personal opinion is it looks really good with accent colors. Maybe other viewers would be interested. Thanks.
Neat idea!
Looks great
Thanks!
I absolutely love your videos....super cool guy who just comes off a real genuine person. Thanks for the videos and yes I am so building that table for by baby girl (wife)....she will treat me so good...if you know what i mean. Lol....cheers..
👊🏻
#tubatwo... Love it!
I appreciate you going into detail about the finish. Most folks don't go into their finish process.
You're welcome. Glad it helped.
Nice work! Turned out great!
