MEW Carry Me To Safety Reaction & Breakdown | The Decomopser Awwwright!
MEW Reactions
Thank you for these kind words about our song. I have loved Supertramp since I was a kid.
Absolutely wonderful music Jonas - It was and now is a pleasurer to experience the band/music. Aloha :)
The man himself is here! Looking forward to hear the next Mew album!
@@KeyOfGeebz this is the video that made me subscribe! Mew is one of my favorite bands on the planet. Have you dived into their discography?
Holy smokes! Wasn’t expecting to see you here Jonas! Your music means more to me than I can express. Very happy to see him listen to one of your best xx
I'm so glad I got see you live in Guadalajara, one of my most precious memories.
Never expected to see a Mew breakdown here. How lovely! Mew are one of the great Danish bands of this century; they’re master arrangers and make their dreamy pop songs sound downright progressive at times.
Same here. Mew is very underrated. It's on my all time favourite 5 bands list.
Mew was a great group to listen to during night walks. The spacey qualities, playful progressions. I might suggest Am I Wry?, Special, or Zookeeper's Boy.
I second this! I would love to see a breakdown of "Am I Wry? No" !!
is
I'm still happily here. While excellent, this particular song is not representative of their overall vibe. I highly suggest any of the following songs: "The Zookeeper's Boy," "Special," "Am I Wry? No," or "Apocalypso". I've provided links below, respectively. These Danes sound so good live, so these are all live performances in hopes of highlighting not only their compositional prowess but their performance skills as well. Mew is the best progressive rock band to make their mark in the 21st century. Stellar band. Hope you dig 'em, dude. Love your stuff.

I wonder who recommends these weird tracks . Your recommendations are much better, although I would have included introducing palace players from there next album
@@redshift912 I did and honestly it was because this was the first track I heard from them and I loved it.
Should probably do the whole album then. "...And The Glass Handed Kites" is amazing!
The Boykeeper's Zoo
I second this comment, good song, but the listed ones are far more representative.
MEW!!! Yes, one of my all-time favorite bands (and I'm a death metal dude)! None of their songs are heavy. It's all pretty low gain settings on the amps. They're from Denmark. I've seen them in concert at least 4 or 5 times...great band and great live show! There are too many songs to recommend. They have several albums out, but you can't go wrong with any song from the "Frengers" or "And the Glass Handed Kites" albums. A few songs to start with are "156", "She Spider", "Special", and "Apocalypso".
As a 61yr old mainly Prog Rock but many other venues of music, I am blown away by MEW. Their catalog is vast but you won't be disappointed. !
Mew - The zookeeper's boy
Amazing song, but I wouldn't do it next... it's bit too similar to this one. Maybe come back to it after doing one of their heavier tracks
OH WOW!
Finally someone is reacting to Mew!
Thank you!
Mew’s a great band, love those guys. Judging from this reaction, you’ll love them. They strike the perfect balance of indie pop and prog rock with a healthy dose of spacey dream pop elements. You should check out their songs Satellite and Snow Brigade.
Bold suggestion for kind of a longer trip:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Sleep
I'm still here!
would so like to see geebz do a gy!be trip! awwright!
I second this!! Maybe their song Mladic would be good too!
I'm still here
This was absolutely beautiful, thank to anyone who recommended him this band! I will follow up
That whole album is phenomenal. It starts off dream pop-y with seriously dark undertones, which is perfect for those dark roads during the fall and winter seasons. Try driving at night to A Better Place, while following the lyrics. There's something special about it that I can't explain, but it's light and dark all at once, makes you feel human and understood, you know?
Mew!? REALLY!? I freaking love it, though i like their older stuff more. If you liked this definitely check out "Am I Wry? No", "Zookeepers Boy" and "Comforting Sounds". The last one should be a live version. Jonas Bjerre has a magical voice.
First time I heard them live I cried, like alot, during comforting sounds. It was incredibly moving, and the way it builds up is phenomenal.
Also! Completly different style, but you should really check out Windowlicker by Aphex Twin. His produktion is so quirky and brilliant. There is a "vinyl" video on YT that is in great quality.
It's electronic/industrial, but i absolutly love it, and I think many fellow metalheads feels the same way.
Never thought I'd see Mew here! Love the band!
Mew is always a super great vibe
And the Glass Handed Kites is such a wonderfully constructed album. "Fox Cub" "Apocalypso" "Special" and " Zookeeper's Boy" are all so beautifully interconnected and the sequence of these songs is just an amazing experience. Only 13 minutes for 4 songs ;) ;) Don't let it slip through the cracks
another great artist I never would have heard if it wasn't for your videos!
I'm still here. Mew is a lovely band and I'm so glad I somehow discovered them almost 20 years ago and that you get to discover them now. I love many songs, but especially the following: Am I Wry? No, Apocalypso, Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years, Panda, and Wherever.
Thanks Decomposer!
Mew tracks that would be great for you to do:
Frengers (2004):
- Am I Wry? No
- 156
- Snow Brigade
- Comforting Sounds
No more stories... (2009):
- Introducing Palace Players
- Cartoons and Macrame wounds
- Vaccine
- Sometimes Life Isn't Easy
+ - (2015):
- Satellites
- Water Slides
Visuals (2017):
- Candy Pieces All Smeared Out
- 85 Videos
Thank you so much for this! They're my favourite band beside Nine Inch Nails, so of course I'm still here. Easily the best thing to come out of Denmark since Niels Bohr, the Nobel winning physicist. Not a bad song to start with at all, though not what I would have started with. This album, Visuals, is their latest, and in my opinion, their best. There's a lot of post Peter Gabriel era Genesis vibes to it.
The media quickly dubbed them a prog band after their first internationally published album, but they've pushed back against that label a bit in interviews. Which is slightly odd, given how many odd time signatures and shifting of time signatures they use.
As for song suggestions, first a bit about Mew with Copenhagen Philharmonic. I think it was on an Alter Bridge video, that you said how the orchestra is there to support the band, and you'd like to see it done differently. Well, on With Copenhagen Philharmonic the band takes a step back, and let's the orchestra step forward with Jonas' transcendental voice. And then some other songs I'd love to so a reaction to.
Introducing Palace Players
Silas, The Magic Car
Cartoons and Macramé Wounds
Wake of Your Life
Sometimes Life Isn't Easy
Nothingness and No Regrets
She Spider
Apocalypso
Chinaberry Tree
Special
Hawaii/Hawaii Dream
156
New Terrain/Nervous (sometimes called Nervous Terrain)
That last one I think is an audio engineer's wet dream.
And a quick reminder to steer clear from music videos. With the exception of Introducing Palace Players, the songs are usually cut to be shorter, and the mixes are duller. I'm assuming because of meddling by the record company.
And thank you again.
You have excellent taste. NIN and MEW are goat
Still here! Long time listener, first time caller. Love the metal stuff and was excited to see this as well! I'll echo a few others on continuing down the Mew road with either "156" or "Satellite". Thanks for doing this and stay cool!
As requested, I'm still here. =-)
Can't say I've heard of this band before, quite a pleasant surprise.
I really love that late 60s/early 70s vibe, brings back memories of my mom sharing her record collection with me when I was a kid.
Certainly a band I'll be putting on my to listen list, thanks for the breakdown!
Well, thats something i didnt expected to see here, and what a delightful surprise, i love Mew so much, i consider them the manifestation of christmas on musical form. This one, comforting sounds and symmetry should be on every list of the most beautiful musics on earth
Awesome choice, Mew is great, they have a lot of interesting songs to decompose.
Would recommend "Am I Wry? No" or "Apocolypso" if you want to try another of theirs with a bit more complexity but still accessible.
I just found your channel while looking for Mew reactions. I really appreciate the time you take to discuss the song, and nice catch on comparing it to a soundtrack - the singer has actually composed a few soundtracks in Denmark, where Mew is from. Really beautiful soundtracks, too. I hope you do end up reacting to more Mew. I’d suggest a few different tracks, like The Zookeeper’s Boy, Comforting Sounds (the live versions of that song are just so freaking good), Rows, My Complications, and Apocalypso. But you can’t go wrong with any Mew, really. They’re amazing.
Glad you did a breakdown on Mew. You should check out "introducing to palace players"
Mew! Yay! You should check out Apocalypso!
Right on. A song more representative of what they're all about... more so than "Carry Me To Safety".
@@eidetecker For sure. I would also suggest Why Are You Looking Grave (w/J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.), or my personal favourite The Zookeeper's Boy.
Circuity of the wolf after that 🤣
...And the Glass Handed Kites would be a good one if you ever decide to do an album breakdown, here you mentioned you're not sure if their albums are meant to be listened in full as an entire concept. Outside of their first EP and album, the rest of them are meant to be listened to as a whole. Sometimes even on repeat, as the last track leads to the first. They're an incredible band, thanks so much for this video!
Welp, as a Dane i did not expect this. Seen these guys live more times than i can count, personally i like their older material better, like Apocalypso or Introducing Palace Players. It's more so alternative pop rock, than their newer stuff.
Hi. Is Mew popular in Denmark?
I'm still here. Glad you enjoyed it. When I heard it on the radio back when it came out, I couldn't believe there was still good new music made. In a way, it changed my perspective, along with giving me joy.
I've been following because of Tool, but MEW here blew my mind. I'm with Ian, you should do a video on Special or Am I Wry?. Apocalypso is a must, also.
Please more MEW. Apocalypto/Special/Zookeeper’s Boy. 3 songs that seamlessly go into the next. It’s an incredible experience
A very special MEW tune, off of an epic album. Fantastic!!
Love this band!!
still here!! and do more Mew ;)
I'm still here.
You can just say it. This song was a definite gummy bear song.
Also, everyone needs to have a little Supertramp in their lives.
Lastly, waiting for you to do some more Periphery. One of my faves, but I think not all that popular is The Summer Jam, from their EP Clear. It's not as heavy a song as they're known to have, but I think the structure of the song is epic, and shows their versatility. These guys are just great song writers and producers. Check it out!
I’m still here. The zookeepers boy by Mew is amazing as well
I am still here ✌️I am stunned to find that Mew is featured in your channel and I have been following them since 2003. Their magnum opus Comforting Sounds is from their major debut album Frengers. It is said that many would play this track for their funerals and rest their souls. Please look up their album track (about 9min) instead of the official MV coz its cut way too short
More new stuff!! Awwwright! Thanks man!
Awwwright!!
More Mew, thank you.
Be sure to check out Kashmir, another wonderful Danish band
Still here!! Love the positivity!!
I mean, you have to do some of their earlier stuff. "Special" (live) would be great.
Still here, nice tune 😎
Never heard Mew. I’m still here! I really dug it too Geebs. It really has an Alan Parsons Influence in my opinion too. Looking forward to you checking more of these guys out. 👍🙃
Wilderun - The Tyranny of Imagination. Can't suggest this enough.
Enjoyed your great reaction video. From a huge Mew fan it's great to see appreciation for this song. They have such a diverse repertoire. I would recommend checking out Comforting Sounds, a fan favourite, their live closing track - a long increasingly layering track to an amazing climax. I recommend checking out everything they've done, incredible tracks include Rows and Cartoons and Macramé Wounds - both, I think, progressive in a similar vein to Carry Me To Safety.
Oh I'm here early..
Hello Sir, congrats on 100k ✌️🇦🇺
Hey, thanks!
I’m still here that was a beautiful song 🎧
Still here! Was a nice surprise seeing Mew on your channel!
I'm a big Mew fan, glad to hear it on this channel. It's hard to tell what songs are their best, as they're so different and equally good.
Consider looking up the song "Introducing Palace Players".
I'm still here! Great refreshing song amongst the usual metal/prog stuff that you do! I've listened to Mew on occasion and seen them live before and they are a great band, perhaps underrated a bit! Keep up the great work mate and enjoy your well deserved upcoming break!
Recommendation - Japanese Post Rock band: Mono - Ashes in the Snow
I'm sure someone else already said this, but THE definitive Mew tracks are the first three tracks (Am I Wry No, 156 and Snow Brigade from their third album, Frengers. Fascinating progressive pop rock tracks and the production is also very interesting.
Wow that song really got to me today. Haven't listened to mew for years. I think right about now would be a good time to give them a revival.
I had just sung a Danish lullaby, by Carl Nielsen for one of the kids before watching this. And I noticed that the voicings in the mew song reminded me of Carl nielsen. I guess there's some nordic/Danish thing in there.
Love that you reacted to Mew! But yeah, Zookeeper's Boy, Apocalypso, Chinaberry Tree, Am I Wry? No, are all amazing songs!
Great to see Mew on the channel. White Lips Kissed is another great track of theirs.
Love that you did something outside metal. Mew really showcases some unique songwriting and compositions, very creative. Hope to see you do more of them. Repeater Beater or Introducing Palace Players would be my recommendation
I'm still here and I also enjoy listening to other genres - and this was a treat and I will be looking forward for you to dive deeper into Mew's catalogue.
I’m still here. This is new to me. It’s good! Makes me think of MGMT- Kids. Or M83- Wait.
Yes! Supertramp, I had the same thought. Amazing. Haven't heard anyone mention Supertramp in ages.
I really love your breakdowns and I learn a lot about the songs you are reviewing, especially about the small details in arrangement and producing. And I learned a lot of new bands I never heard before, from which a few ones are now even my favourite bands. So thank you for your great work.
If you want to review something different than metal/rock, I recommend "Jacob Collier". He is a young genius in music with being extremely versatile. He writes, sings, arranges, record, mix and produce almost all of his stuff by himself, including playing most of the instruments and doing the video production. He merges all different kind of music styles into his songs, and uses crazy harmonies, microtonal modulation and still being enjoyable and easy to listen. His newest album ('Djesse Vol. 3) even got three grammy nominations including best album, and with previous songs he got already 4 grammys. As a start I would recommend his Beatles cover "Here comes the sun" or Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" that show his capability and versatility. But any other song from him is as good as these ones.
I'm still here, I liked that it's kinda psychedelic in it own way.
What an amazing band! You should definitely do another reaction & breakdown from this guys. They have one of the greatest indie rock/alt. pop albums of all times (2005 - "And The Glass Handed Kites"). Please listen to some of their stuff. I join the request for "Zookeeper's Boy" or "Am I Wry? No".
This is one of the most coolest and most underrated bands in the world.
First of all, thanks for doing Mew. One of my favorite bands and it seems like despite being on a major label they remained relatively obscure. This is my first viewing of your vids and I am not sure what to call you. Do you go by Geebz? When you were listening I observed from you one of my favorite qualities about this band and that is how they make me feel with their dreamscapes while also challenging me to think. The cues on your face, from occasionally closing your eyes to visibly being seen trying to work out what they were doing, was really a delight to see. Personally, I have never heard a band that sounds like Mew but I suppose I can hear some Supertramp qualities to what they do. This song comes from one of their later albums. It is wonderful but does represent when maybe their popularity had ebbed a bit. Much of it is more subdued focusing more on the dreamy aspect of their songcraft. Their earlier work is more often overtly progressive rock and I love both in their music. I wonder if you would more appreciate tracks like Introducing Palace Players, RepeaterBeater or The Zookeepers Boy. My personal favorite songs by this band are Comforting Sounds, Beach, Am I Wry? No and really all of the first half of the Kites album which is a song suite but I suppose finds it's climax on Special. Anyway, it really was a joy watching you trying to figure this one out. Haha. We all know that feeling, especially when listening to Mew.
Hello fellow Frenger! Thanks for listening to Mew my favorite band! Can you please react to one of their best songs like: Comforting sounds The Zookeepers boy Shespider or Symmetry would be epic to see and hear...
Thank you anyways!
Peace out...
I've never really been a Mew fan, but I've always liked their "Zookeeper's Boy". Mostly because I'm a sucker for high pitched and polyphonic vocals.
Yeah check out Introducing Palace Players or Snow Brigade!!! Love that band!
LOVE THIS SONG
I'm still here! Love Mew, still loving the channel Geebz. Hoping to see The Hex by Circa Survive pop up in my notifications one day. Much love dude!
I'd absolutely love to watch you talk about Everything Everything. They are by far my favorite outfit from the UK. They aren't outright prog rock, but do dabble in progressive, intensive arrangements and compositions.
If you're interested in something more mellow i'd recommend The Peaks, and if you're wanting it a bit more upbeat and proggy you should check out Weights.
as for more MEW, Water Slides with the Copenhagen Philharmonic is a great track.
Stellar video as always, I'm still here 8) Awwwwright!
Big metal fan here, loving everything you have been doing on this channel! I really like this song, and I noticed that you said you sometimes listen to techno. Can I suggest a future reaction video to Jeff Mills "Sonic Destroyer" or "The Bells"? It would be interesting
“Mew And the Glass Handed Kites” is a fantastic album!!
Also, “No More Stories Are Told Today…” is a great album!
You will enjoy any track off of these, I’m sure! (*Full disclosure, I LOVE all of MEW’s catalog…so will you!)
I know I'm late to see this reaction, mew is one of my absolute favourite bands of all time. I really think you should try and pick up "and the glass handed kites" it's perfectly symbiotic, continuous and above beautiful. It is in my humble opinion a masterpiece. also of course my first introduction to mew, frengers. It will absolutely give you a huge pleasent surprise
I´m still here. Great reaction to a great song... cheers.
One of My top 3 bands!! You should listen to their poder songs! Comforting SOUNDS or and the glass handed Kites album that it's one huge song!!! Hope You do another video of them!
Kamelot - Memento Mori
Soilwork - Death in General
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest
Dream Theater - Take the Time
....I'm still here, of course
(I don't post links anymore due to the risk of the comment being removed by youtube)
I love Space Dye Vest!!
I hope he eventually does Octavarium or Change of Seasons.
@@dansourile5444 give it a thumbs up! Given the requests I'm sure he will do those 2 behemoths eventually....I want him to do the more unique and shorter..."catchier" type of songs first though. People want to wow him with the long elaborate songs, but I don't want to have DT be seen as only that type of band, which is the case so far. Pale Blue Dot was a bit of a wasted DT reaction imo, given the dozens of other greater songs they have in their catalogue. That said, Memento Mori by Kamelot is the one I will push forever, that is one hell of a timeless epic masterpiece.
@@dansourile5444 Oh, I just realised you're the guy who talked about not liking harsh vocals lol hello again. Have you given Soilwork a listen? Or Kamelot for that matter.
@@dodgrblu haha oh yes, I did not recognize your name initially either. I have not listened to Soilwork yet! I am sort of in the middle of a new discovery and working my way through some new stuff. They are in the queue! Any good place to start with them? I have not listened to Kamelot before either. I think I MIGHT have heard Soilwork once - I think Amorphis fans recommended me to them (and I am a big fan of Amorphis).
I get your take on DT. I honestly DO think of long, epic songs when I think of DT. But they definitely have some great shorter songs in their discography that break the mold.
Mew is an amazing band! Please consider doing: Comforting Sounds, 156, Snow Brigade, Hawaii, and the other suggestions that other user have recommended.
My favorite band (Tool) brought me to your content, and I eagerly watch your videos!
Love your videos and everything you do!
This was a great reaction. Please more Mew.
Circuitry of the Wolf/Chinaberry Tree by Mew would also be fun to hear a breakdown of 😁
One of those bands that it's hard to believe that they're not huge.
mew -comforting sounds. masterpiece
This is a beautiful hounting song.
Hecks yes! One of my favorite bands
Very flaming lips to me.... which is a good thing. Really enjoyed this.
Introducing palace players by MEW!
That was super cool! Total Pink Floyd/Radiohead/Porcupine Tree vibes.
No need to justify putting anything on your channel man, if you're diggin the music there will be plenty of us who dig it too.
Please review comforting sounds, i played it a trillion times.
I am still here :)
I'm still here and you do you, you don't need to justify any songs. Check Snow Brigade from Mew, Sigur Ros would be also something that you would probably like, don't now remember have you done something from them already or not.
I’m still here by the way lol
I'm still here. This reminds me of "North Atlantic Oscillation". If you dug this, you'll like them though their songs have this very interesting tension through out them.
This song would be perfect for a couples figure skating performance
Knew you'd dig it. ✌
I would like to nominate "Himalaya Massive Ritual" by Igorrr for you to listen to. You already had the fun side of Igorrr with "Cheval" and the breakcore side with "Very Noise". This song will show you Igorrr's Opera-Metal crossover side.
And in case you really enjoy Igorrr, I would also recommend you "the making of Savage Sinusoid" (with subtitles). It's about 25 minutes split into three parts and also strictly speaking not a song to react to so I know it's a hard sell for the channel but maybe you wanna enjoy it in private.
Heeey man, you should listen to Cartoons and Macrame Wounds from MEW, it has a very progry structure so I think you would like it, even if you don't make a reaction video, it is a very interesting out of the ordinary but yet enjoyable piece of music from this danish band I made my favorite one without deciding it, cheers from Chile!!
PS: I should mention that two days ago I was listening to the song I recommended you and I thought "I should write to the old decomposer in youtube about this song" and what do yo know? here its MEW in your channel!, so for me it is a "sincronicity" stuff right here, maybe not the same song, but of all the band... you doing MEW....awwrright!
Aloha! A band I've been meaning to check out, thanks for getting to them before me and making it easy lol
...still here to the end. This was cool, but probably not something I'd revisit.
This song really isn’t among their best at all. Older songs like 156, Snow Brigade and Special is where it’s at
This album as a whole is magnificent. Also, this is the last song on the album, so instantly not the best place to start.
If you pick Mew up again then try Comforting Sounds ruclips.net/video/Gtyi1vvXxKY/видео.html
This has definitely a 60's/70's vibe to it, also makes me thing a lot of Mr. Bungle's Retrovertigo. I definitely thought of Pink Floyd or Supertramp reinterpreting Retrovertigo :D, there is also a bit of Coldplay in the melody.
Check out: Dir En Grey - Vinushka, when you manage to come to it
Funny you should say Coldplay. Jonas, the singer is in another band called Apparatjik, with Guy Berryman from Coldplay and Magne Furuholmen from A-ha.
Archspire - human murmuration. It’s the craziest fastest Canadian metal out there
Definitely listen to Satellites, Hawaii Dream in to Hawaii proper, and like anything off of frengers or glass handed kites
