This song was written for the film "She's Having a Baby", and it's about a very specific situation - an expectant father sitting in the waiting room while his wife is giving birth. In the film, it plays after the birth takes a dangerous turn and the mother's life is in danger. He's sitting there unable to do anything, thinking about all the great things he never really appreciated about his marriage. It's done so effectively that I start crying just hearing the song. Man, I'm crying now! :)

Bowie had a knack for picking up interesting trends in music before they became mainstream and reinventing himself over and over. But Kate just did her own thing.
She doesn't get a lot of recognition in the states but she is huge in her home country the UK. She only had a small tour in 1979 and never toured the US so she just never took off here. She recently did a residency of 22 shows in London that sold out within minutes. It's great to hear someone react to her music because she is an amazing artist. Writer, singer, pianist, producer, director of her videos - she did it all.

As a result, I didn’t see things like MTV or VH1 very much unless I was at someone else’s house. But I will say I did really like the artwork on her album covers. But over the course of her album releases I mainly just heard her songs. And I’m glad because her songs often have that amazing ability to touch me at an emotional and subliminal level of my own. I’ll see the videos on RUclips and often I find myself not that interested in watching what she came up with to accompany her music. There are a few exceptions, like Wow. But for the most part, the music, the images and feelings they evoke are more than enough for me. For instance, Blow Away when I heard it called up memories from when I was around six and the feelings I had then when I was that age. I don’t know why. Moments of Pleasure leave me with a more valedictory sense of looking back over my life with a sad mellow feeling of nostalgia.

I agree! It is still my favorite album. I like the strong spirituality in it. She knew in her teens what took me decades to grasp. It's deep stuff. Moving is my favorite. The Them Heavy People video cracks me up since I deal with a lot of 'heavy' people. I'm still in discovery mode, but Hello Earth and This Woman's work are also faves. Actually when you watch "This woman's work" music video Kate is with her loved one having dinner and all of a sudden she collapses, then they are in the hospital and she seems to be very ill "touch and go" for a bit and she comes outside her body and is observing and watching her loved one "heartbreak" thinking he is losing her. She is saying the words in this song to him as she follows him around and in the waiting room. Then he gets the news she is going to make it. This is Kate's "Original song" she wrote and sang it...no Kate never gets much credit or praise for anything in the "Pop world" but to most of us that love Kate we KNOW her true talent, in singing, writing, producing, dancing and original music video's..

I have just about all of Kate’s work. This song is so personal to me as it came out when my best friend , mum to two young children was dying from breast cancer. I find it very difficult to listen to now . Truly beautiful , emotive , resonates on so many levels .

I just found this song today on Spotify playlist and its love of the first heard, from the very beginning melodies.... The song is pure beauty and sadness, I think this is now my most favorite Kate Bush song.
She apparently released it in 1988 but other people have covered it :D - also, still writing, I believe ^-^

You have those artists from the 70ties that you can be shure will be remembered in 50 years from now. Kate is from that golden british generation like David Bowie and bands like Queen or Led Zeppelin. She is so unique that I am sure her songs and special voice, arrangements, will survive the test of time. I am glad the new generation also appreciate Kath incredible talents. Didn't know Maxwell, but his version of this song is also very beautiful, thanks for the hint!

I have just about all of Kate’s work. This song is so personal to me as it came out when my best friend , mum to two young children was dying from breast cancer. I find it very difficult to listen to now . Truly beautiful , emotive , resonates on so many levels .

To me Tori Amos is a less-talented Kate Bush ripoff. Every time I hear her work, I always feel that way.

I had a difficult relationship with my Mother, we loved each other, but it could be rough. When she died this song was one I listened to for months & sobbed for all the things I wished we'd said, all the regrets I knew we both had & then it was too late. Have loved Kate Bush since her very first album. Genius.
I remember hearing this song in 1988 while in the theater watching the film "She's Having a Baby" the scene where this song comes in is soooooo emotional. A must see film which has led to this song being one of my favorites of all time. 🤗😢😭😌😢😭😊👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
