- In this episode, I visit an avid rare plant collector’s enchanting Shanghai apartment - which is located in the heart of the charming French concession district.
As we all KNOW, China’s social media and plant community is completely disconnected from the rest of the world’s. This episode provide us with a rare glimpse into the ELUSIVE plant culture in China.
Our guest, Moses, shared real insights into how he collects rare plants in this part of the world, AND how he takes care of them. I was surprised to know that there’s a HUGE fledging rare plant market in China.
We do a tour of his impressive indoor collection, to see some rare aroids we are familiar with, as well as original hybrid from China.
This reminds us that despite us being world’s apart, we are connected by our passion, and determination to grow plants in our living spaces.

As a retired botanist, I am so happy to seen the younger generation in love with plants.
Wow this comment warms my heart ❤️
Definitely what young people need today..best medicine in the world..
i think with social media, i think this generation might exceed prev era
I love Mose’s philosophy regarding growing plants and life in general. It is so wonderful to get a peak into people’s lives in different parts of the world.
Thank you ❤️
Oh, Moses is so sympathetic and his dogs are so sweet! It's lovely how he has two dogs so they can feel good together being siblings. They seem very happy with him. And what a peaceful sanctuary he has created as his home! I would happily chat there with him over a cup of coffee! How beautiful! I love how the sun streams into his flat onto his plants. And I love his philosophy towards his plants - they are family ^^
😀😀 what a warm comment. he will be happy to read this ❤️
As a chinese descendant living in Brazil, I would dare to say He is just like my clone living there. lol
Same interests, lifestyle and just like plants we thrive and adapt gradually to the enviroment around us.
Hope we can meet someday somewhere in a bike trip around the world.
Whoaaaa thats cool. You should reach out to him maybe you can visit each other and plan bike trips
What part of Brazil are you at? I'm a Brazilian from são Paulo. Commenting here to help engage this wonderful channel
I love your videos Sean. This one was very special to have a peek inside of the life of someone who lives in China. In the states we are fed so much propaganda. I enjoyed Moses so very much and I cannot wait for similar content. People like you are the real lifestyle reporters of the world now. Thank you. ❤️
Thank you. Check out my Shanghai episode on my personal channel (link is in the video description) it paints a picture of life in Shanghai. There are a lot of good people and innovative minds in China amidst geopolitical differences.
Moses has a lovely energy and collection 😊

Your command of mandarin is better than I expected 😂
Haha thank you 😅 I’m surprised myself considering how long I’ve not spoken it!
I loved this ! Moses looks so sweet and his house so peaceful. I love the way he talks about his plants and cares for them. And what a gorgeous collection of anthuriums he has.
Love these videos where you visit a local person's place, explore their plant collection, and allow them to share their passion and enthusiasm for plants with us!
The photo montage at the end was so cool! Wish there was a film crew following Moses on his travels 😂
Thank you ❤️
Oh yesss he should have his own show
What a wonderful spirit Moses has. And his plant 🪴 collection is beautiful. Loved this episode, and I thank you so much 💓.

Thanks Sean and Moses for the tour in China. It’s always cool to see what is popular in other countries 😀🇨🇦
❤️😀
You're my favorite PlantTuber Shaun! Great video! I really loved Moses' outlook on life; especially how he goes on vacations and cuts people's hair for free. He makes friends with people wherever he goes. That's the best kind of person, in my opinion.
"In a world where you can be anything, be kind." Both you and Moses embody that sentiment, and I appreciate that more than anything. We are all humane by nature.
Thank you for this and every video you've made in the past few years; I have learned a great deal from you!
Fair winds and following seas! 🖖🌱
Thank you for taking the time to write in, this is also an incredible act of kindness 😀
Great plant tour! I identify with that “inner peace”. It’s amazing how calming it is just to get home and interact with/see my plants after a difficult day.
❤️❤️
10:38 The mint anthurium seedling is stunning! Even though it's still young the variegation is bold and breathtaking. What an extraordinary collection ✨🙌
Thank you ❤️❤️
I hope you can continue to do what you are doing. I enjoy your videos and seeing plants from other parts of the world. I follow many people on you tube and can only support by watching. I am retired with limited fixed income.

I speak just 3. English, Chinese, and Indonesia. 😀
🙌🏻 Three is two more than most! Thank you for the great planty content!!!@@onlyplants
this video is especially exciting for me!!! I lived in Shanghai for a few months, I love plants and I learn Chinese for a half of year, and it's crazy that i can understand some phrases without subtitles!!! now I wish I could go back to Shanghai and visit that plant market.
China has a thriving plant market! We will hear more from them soon as cross-border becomes easier
I wish China and US would allow for easier connections between its citizens. So many missed friendships. I love his collection, his apartment and his dogs. Thank you for sharing.
If theres parallel universe, there must exist one reality where US and China coexisted and thrived together
Because of your RUclips channel, I have now made a goal of visiting Indonesia. Thank you so much for sharing your world.

Hello from New York City, USA. I always enjoy watching your videos
Thank you ❤️ brings me warmth when someone from NYC writes in. I lived in Chelsea for 7 years.
@onlyplants that is awesome!! ❤️
IMPORTANT QUESTION:
I download videos usually to watch when I’m on the train; does this still figure into the algorithm? Or is it ignored? Does it count as a fully watched video?
This has to be one of my favorite plant home tours yet. Moses seems like such a cool guy. I was tearing up at the montage towards the end. I’m going to become a supporter as soon as I finish my masters this semester 🙌🏽 it’s going to be my reward for my studies lol
I have a feeling the watch count is updated when you are online again. But it really really really helps when you comment on the channel like this ❤️ youtube heavily rewards good engagement.
Props on getting your priorities straight, cute doggo's haha
😀😀😀
Your channel is only one piece of puzzle for getting more people into plants! Opening up the world to people who love plants..especially here in the western world.
Happiness begins with one plant at a time..

Oh wow😮
😀😀
Thanks!
Oh my god thank you so much for this ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! I would love to go to Shanghai and his apartment was beautiful, not to mention the anthuriums.
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Great to see a Thaumatophyllum can be kept in a smaller space, makes me hopeful I can do the same too
They can live anywhere. Ive seen some in malls and airports 😀
@@onlyplants Yeah but the amount of space it can take up is what kept me from trying. His leaves where of a very manageable size while the plant shows some age. That would work for me as well
thx sean ...👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you ❤️
멋지다🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
😀😀❤️❤️
Thanks for this wonderful video Sean. I have been following your channel not long but has find so much informative materials that help me to grow my collections. I totally agree with you … plants give you the ‘inner peace’!! I guess that’s how we connect ourselves to the nature in a closer distance especially when living in big cities..
By the way, did you get your hair cut ? 😊
Haha I didnt have time to get my hair cut 🫠 I rushed to the airport right after the interview
You can really speak so many languages 🤩🤩🤩..
Your Videos really motivates me💙. I've also recently started plant vlogging 🤭. I really like your content and Irine too 💙💙. Love from India

What what? How many languages do you speak Sean? This was very interesting and I loved his collection.
I speak 3 😀
I thought it was really interesting the way Moses talked about the US plant market, whereas, here in the US, I look to other countries for import.
A lot of cultivars and varieties from the US is extremely popular here in Asia 😀 they are sold out in an instant.
❤ It Love in Brazil 💚🇧🇷
❤️❤️
