This is going to help SO many plant lovers who are getting into anthurium!! Thank you for all the great info! I'm glad you hit on pot size for these plants because this is something I found out about anthurium much later and really wished that I'd seen someone with experience talking about this sooner because I had just kept hearing that most plants that we were growing indoors liked to be a bit pot bound but that's DEFINITELY not the case with these guys if you want them to size up faster👌❤️

All my anthuriums so far are seedlings or seeds i bought to grow on. I find them pretty easy to grow, both indoors and bush house situations. My first seed-grown crystallinum x clarinervum? have beautiful reddish new leaves, glittery shiny white veins and velvety leaves the size of my hand in 18 months. A few made lovely gifts for friends. Im so excited to see how big the leaves get. 😂 An exercise in patience, but i do enjoy growing from seed, very satisfying. Just got a baby veitchii, very exciting, and some dark leaved crosses. Queen next. 😂❤

you have inspired me so much- I had to stop myself from immediately going to Home Depot. I'd been struggling with beautiful anthuriums I Imported only to see them perish. Tomorrow I start anew. thank you for posting this.
Most anthuriums can grow in ambient household conditions, the key is to keep them well hydrated really. There are only a select few cloud forest types that can't exist in humidity levels below 80%.

Subscribed and love your anthuriums! I have a few easier anthuriums (clarinervium and veitchii), but when it comes to the queen, this video is my go to! I have the clarivnerium and veitchii in lechuza pon (the transition was easy), and I would like to get the queen in pon as well, but she is currently in sphagnum moss and I have layered that on top of pon, trying to encourage her to root down into it with a water reservoir. I also have her in ambient humidity, and since seeing this video, have increased her light to 250 ppfd from about 100 ppfd, and she's putting out a new leaf :D Thanks so much for your wisdom!

you sir deserve a subscribe and like. I love this video it shows how u can acclimate them to your own conditions as long as u provide them proper lighting and water. Also I'd like to ask how often do you water them like do u have a schedule? Thank you
yes... I water Wednesdays and Sundays in summer... in the winter they dry out less so I give half water on Wednesdays and full water on Sundays - When you use good lighting - they grow faster and also use more water - so light and water go hand in hand...
Beautiful plants. Those queens are stunning. Ive had issues growing them outside in the S fl heat. I can't believe you have so many leaves on your regale! Mine only holds 2 at a time. I like the square pots. Where do you get those? Great video!
Wow I'm so glad I found this video! Gives me the confidence to try growing anthurium again. I noticed you didn't mention temperature. Obviously in the wild these grow in very hot temps, but what is the temp range in your home? Is there any chance of me growing these beauties when my indoor temps drop to 16C/60F overnight for a solid 4 months out of the year?
normal household temps - but in the winter (4 months) I turn the heat off at night and the temp drops to 55-60 at night in my home - during the day 75-78
These are some awesome tips. I watched the entire video through while my baby anthuriums sit right next to me. I've just begun learning about anthuriums and have been slowly unraveling an understanding of balance of light, water, humidity, air quality, fert, growth mediums, and love. Would you suggest the same tips for little seedlings? I don't have any mature anthuriums right now. Just wanted to start with seedlings. And would you suggest getting a mature anthurium too for learning or should I just wait for my seedlings to grow? Thanks again for the wonderful tips. Anthurium really are stunning🪴
if your humidity is over 40% I believe they will do well - but the smallest plants i have started with were leaves about 1 inch long - I would stick with the smaller plants as part of the fun is seeing them grow before your eyes - and they grow pretty fast with added light.
@@growproteas1148 i'll give the lesser humidity a shot. It would definitely be ideal to not have to keep upsizing a growing cabinet and also to allow them to reach their maximum potential size. Hope it works! 🤞🏼
Such a beautiful collection, i just bought a hybrid baby plant of warocqueanum x waterburyanum, that has to come in a few days i hope, it has always been a dream for me to get that hybrid so i'm so curious how it will grow out in a mature size! I also am about to get some hybrid seeds. That are coming from a woman out of France she used the nectar of Anthurium Papillilaminum x Magnificum and used the pollen from Anthurium Zara x Michelle (Doc Block) i believe. Now i wonder how that will look like. 🥰
Have you ever had fungul diseases on your leaves ? Or crispy edges form etc ? I havent gone that deep into but have started to look into it as a preventative measure.
I am always shocked about how few people use bug poison on their plants. It works wonders and we are not going to eat the plants and they are already poisonous to eat so why not???
Because they will kill pollinators if you put the plants outside. They are toxic to pets and children that sometimes chew on plants. Bonide systemics will make spider mites worse. Beneficial insects are much more effective for pest control and safer.
I agree with you, way too many try the eco friendly route with beneficial bugs etc but when you have an outbreak, particularly thrips, which I detest! You can’t beat a good pesticide. It’s being used indoors, so should not be a threat to outdoor critters and the environment
I don’t use pesticides because I have dogs and I don’t want to breathe that stuff in or deal with the cleanup to get rid of any spray that gets in my shower etc. I check my plants regularly and use neem oil in a mixture as a soil drench. it builds up within the plant and kills off any sap-sucking beasts. Furthermore, all that poison goes down the drain, but where do you think the drain leads? Into the ocean. A lot of pests are developing resistance towards pesticides which is another good reason to use it only when absolutely necessary.
@@ronjakh Systemic pesticides go into the plant. The are not sprayed at all.As long as the dog is not eating the plant then there's no problem. Also dogs are not stupid. As far as going into the ocean, most pesticides break down very quickly and would never make it into the water system. I am VERY against ones that don't break down. It very stupid, a lot like gas or diesel cars are plastics. I studied medicine btw so not totally ignorant here. Other ways work really well. For example against the nats just use Common butterwort or something like it. They will eat ALL the bugs in a matter of weeks. They are also quite good looking plants and are easy to care for. Aphids (indoor) are a real problem. I fixed it the first year with ladybugs but this year I had a bunch of plants all touching and mostly food plants so no poisons but I did use a systemic on ONE plant in the middle and after one months there were no more aphids. I guess they all bite the middle plant eventually and die. spider mites die from diatomaceous earth, easy. The worst is thrips are the worst and I have found nothing that works but to use a poison. I really HATE these bugs! Luckily they don't seem to attack my food plants.
@@ronjakhI forgot one point. Many poisons for bugs DON"T WORK ON MAMILS! We simply don't have the pathways in our cells to be affected by the poison. Only the bugs dies from it. The poisons are fine for people and you don't need to worry about them unless you buy the really bad ones that don't break down. These should really be illegal. ALso the common person can't buy the bad stuff because you must have a licence and training to use it.
hello i’m not sure if this was asked before (i scrolled didn’t find it) but the sphagnum moss that you grow in how often do you change it out? when you repot do you remove it completely or do you just add more moss to a bigger pot as you would with other substrates?
I just got into anthuriums and this 20 minute video was more helpful to me than hour long ones I’ve seen!! Thank you so so much, I took notes and will be implementing your tips, as clearly they are working amazing for you! Such beautiful and large anthuriums you have 🤍 hello from Canada :)
Systemics are banned in Canada.. do you have other suggestions? I get thrip issues sometimes :( have been using diatomaceous earth but systemics would be so much better
@@jacquelinejax4571 I'm having great luck growing anthuriums in moss - it does not stay too wet - it dries between watering - I also grow quite a few orchids in moss... It's possible that moss is less resistant to roots growing through it as it is so soft...
Woow, thank you for your informations. I have two anthuriums in a transparent box. One of two i forget it outside the box over the night. Next day the only leave was 50% dry. The plant loose it. Ok this plant have no roots (it came in not good conditions). My othe anthurium is a babyplant. The seller had this plant in 60-70% humidity. I can give 50-60%. In winter, i must go to 40-55%. I live in germany, and after i open the windows a couple of minutes i have 40%. If i don't do it, i get mold in my appartment. What do you say to acclimated to my envoirement? My first anthurium without roots (i cut all the dead roots, i get the poor thing with roots, bot not with living, i dont know how it grow, with love i think, since more than 1.5 years! It is a reeeeaaaallllllly slow grower), loves the winter humidity in my living room. But i don't want to fail with this little creature now. Would it works, if i put it daily for more and more hours outside the box?
Hello@@growproteas1148 . I see a video, where a woman mix perlite and sphagnum 50/50. I got one root, and since middle of October i have a leaf. I had success. :-) Now i have 2 warocs and two babys from seeds. Thank you for your help. :-) It works for me. I see you video today and want to anwer you with a good story. My queenie lives now in a plastic box, with a heat math and a lot of light. Next year they get a glas house. And i hope one day, i have so much beautiful plants like you did.
Maybe that’s why it took you two years growing that size, because you keep on upsizing pots so fast. I achieved that size just 1year and 1mo. But mine is in my garage with a controlled environment.
OMG!! I’ve just discovered the plant God! I thought Sydney plant guy was a genius but this just blew my mind!!! Wow, is it possible to be so impressed that it brings you to tears! ❤❤❤❤ thank you so much for sharing, please share more, I’m in love 😍
I have never ever watched a video where every question I asked, was answered until now! Thank you so much!!! That video was absolutely amazing!! Part2. I just wanted to add a few thing that I didn’t yesterday (I was flat out at work but was playing your video in the background and loved your video so much I had to comment). At work I play plant videos pretty much all day, and one thing I notice that always drives me crazy is people never show what conditions there plant’s actually live in. And to clarify, as a viewer we rarely see exactly where a plant lives in a house. People always move the plant to a specific location that they use for filming for good lighting or a nice backdrop. And as much as we all appreciate that. To be honest, as a actual plant grower, I’d rather see it’s living conditions, where is it located compared to a window. Is it in a large drafty room or in a smaller high humidity room. It there other plants close by giving it a micro climate. When I saw your amazing large leaf besties, those were all the questions I started asking, and one by one, you went through them all! And I really do appreciate that!! Also your advice on sizing up every 6 mins. 🤯🤯 absolutely amazing! Almost every other RUclipsr out there says to wait 2 years because it’s such a slow growing plant… however, you’ve completely revolutionized that concept!! Can’t wait to keep seeing more planty videos from you guys!!! 😍 also, for seasonal temperature reason, where are you guys located? I’m in Fort McMurray Canada and to be honest, I don’t think I’ll ever get my humidity levels to yours… but I’ll keep trying at least in the summer! 😉 and if you could do a video explaining exactly how you go about picking a grow light, and even setting it up. I’d love to see that!! Thanks! ☺️ all the extra details are greatly appreciated!!! 🙌 🙌 🙌

thanks.. good luck with your plants.. nice hybrids...
Goals ❤❤❤❤ the bigger the better!!!
oh yes the big plants are so striking - I never get tired looking at them
Have you ever had fungul diseases on your leaves ? Or crispy edges form etc ? I havent gone that deep into but have started to look into it as a preventative measure.
No fungus or crispy leaves...humidity 40 to 60
Hello!! Beautiful specimens! Where do you get those large white square plastic pots?
they are hydrofarm pots
Your warocqueanum is gorgeous. Do you mind me asking where you bought it?

Which soil mix for your Queen Anthurium gives you more roots, more leaves and bigger leaves? Moss or Orchid mix?
Really about the same -
Thank you 💚
thank you for watching
How do you manage watering while on vacation?
good question - we didn't take any vacations this year - but if I did I would have a friend water
hello i’m not sure if this was asked before (i scrolled didn’t find it) but the sphagnum moss that you grow in how often do you change it out? when you repot do you remove it completely or do you just add more moss to a bigger pot as you would with other substrates?
When i re-pot i leave the moss alone and add new moss around the plant in the larger container.
@@growproteas1148 ok thanks so much! i always thought it would break down and have to be changed out. glad to know i can leave it. thanks again
i bought it on amazon@@iamcaprib
I just got into anthuriums and this 20 minute video was more helpful to me than hour long ones I’ve seen!! Thank you so so much, I took notes and will be implementing your tips, as clearly they are working amazing for you! Such beautiful and large anthuriums you have 🤍 hello from Canada :)
Really changed my perspective on the watering, humidity, and pot sizes, and I’m so excited, thank you again!
Systemics are banned in Canada.. do you have other suggestions? I get thrip issues sometimes :( have been using diatomaceous earth but systemics would be so much better
@@lisabeshay5123thanks so much and good luck with your plants! You can grow them in your home!
@@lisabeshay5123 The Bonide works so well - Imidacloprid is the active ingredient - I don't have any other suggestions for you...
Where did you find those awesome clear, square containers?
they are hydrofarm pots
what is your fertilizing routine?
fertilize 3 out of 4 weeks
Can you tell me where you get your pots from?
they are called hydrofarm pots -
Friend, what percentage of moss and substrate are they in? Please 🙏🏻
80% moss - 20% grow stone
@@growproteas1148 thanks 🙏🏻
sounds familiar...😂
What are the red thing growing at the base of one of the anthuriums ?
can u give me a time stamp?
hello sir! how long after you bought your luxurians did u repot it ?
probably 6 months...
@@growproteas1148 tq good sir..just got my first anthurium last night... hope i can get it as big as yours
Do you grow them in a mix or 100 percent sphagnum moss
yes - but a small amount of growstone added
Are these just in moss?
yes moss - with some growstone mixed in....
@@growproteas1148 Doesn't the moss stay too wet? I switched my orchids to leca, perlite and orchid bark.
@@jacquelinejax4571 I'm having great luck growing anthuriums in moss - it does not stay too wet - it dries between watering - I also grow quite a few orchids in moss... It's possible that moss is less resistant to roots growing through it as it is so soft...
So you mention what you used to pot these plants in but you did not mention the recipe you used this would be helpful.
either standard aroid mix or sphagnum with grow stone - thanks!
can you share where you get your large pots?
they are hydrofarm pots - I have the 9 by 9 inch and the 12 by 12 inch (6 gallon)
Would it works, if i put it daily for more and more hours outside the box?
without roots it is a long road to recovery - i might start fresh with a new young healthy plant

These plants are so big, they scared me 😮
ha ha ... thanks so much!
??
😮😮😮😮😮❤❤❤❤
thanks
"Promo sm" 👌
thanks
Maybe that’s why it took you two years growing that size, because you keep on upsizing pots so fast. I achieved that size just 1year and 1mo. But mine is in my garage with a controlled environment.
And yours is in a small pot with big leaves? Kinda doubt that. My plants were very small when I got them... just a few inches... yours?
OMG!! I’ve just discovered the plant God! I thought Sydney plant guy was a genius but this just blew my mind!!! Wow, is it possible to be so impressed that it brings you to tears! ❤❤❤❤ thank you so much for sharing, please share more, I’m in love 😍
Thanks so much for your kind words! Good luck with your plants...
Couldn’t have enjoyed this more.
Thank you 💚
And wow, your collection is amazing.
Thanks so much! Good luck with your plants...
You have the most beautiful plants!! I guess the best advices come with showing the healthy plants to prove it!
thanks!
Wow didn't know I could grow them in just sphagnum moss and perlite. Thanks so much.
yes they love the moisture plus good aeration
Holy guacamole!!!! Incredible anthuriums. Janine reminds me of my husband, tolerating my plants but slightly concerned about the room 😂
you are right Jeanine is concerned about the room!

Do u travel or vacation ever? Much like keeping pets it’s impossible or really $ to provide care when ur on the road.
Wow! That is huge! Never have I seen anything like it❤
I have never ever watched a video where every question I asked, was answered until now!
wow - thanks so much for the wonderful comments!!! New update video coming soon - I live in Sacramento, CA
That was so satisfying to watch. Wish we could see you prepare that substrate💚
I will be making a new video soon when i move the queen from a 2 gallon pot to a 6 gallon pot - will show how I make the sphagnum moss mix. thanks!
