You are right, Sean, this has to be the most beautiful botanic garden ever! From the shape of the greenhouses and the stunningly creative displays of curated plants to the beautiful outdoor scenes, this beats them all!!
This is so beautiful. Wow! How much work and knowledge does it take to build and keep a garden like this. I come from Shanghai, but I did not know of this botanic garden. Thanks for sharing. I truly enjoy it.
Thank you for sharing this amazing and beautiful botanical garden! I wish Irene from Leafing Around is with you, we miss her blogs recently, I hope she is ok, thank you. Your guest is incredibly knowledgeable! Also, Monty Don from UK's Gardeners World will be amazed, hopefully he will see this video! Thank you.
Whoaaa thank you for writing in, as a member you are the first handful to see this. I hope the other viewers will have positive response when it airs this weekend. This is very encouraging. 😀
What a spectacular day! Thanks so much for this adventure. Never heard of this place. It's good to broaden our perspective of this beautiful planet. Interesting, too, that Keri said Phalaenopsis orchid is the most intelligent plant, which led me to research briefly, to learn that orchids are smart because "of their ingenious ability to trick insects and people into helping with their pollination and transport". Also shocking to learn is that orchids, like cycads, are dinosaur-era plants. Superimpose that idea with the idea that the orchids are the most advanced form of plant life, while the most advanced form of animal life cannot manage to respect this beautiful home we share.
breathtaking! I could not close my mouth the whole time I watched this extraordinary video 😮. visiting this botanical garden should be on everyone’s bucket list 😀 Thank you for another exceptional video.
This is so beautiful with so many varieties of plants & all are so well taken care of and are thriving healthily. It puts the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay (S'pore) to shame as the latter relies heavily on the plant exhibits while the resident plants are not really thriving & there is less varieties of plants there.
Gardens by the bay is largely a tourist attraction with almost no effort to educate and conservation. Although it does a good job to get people closer to nature and attracts large volumes of people 😀
Thoroughly enjoyed it, Sean. I had to get my macbook to enjoy it in a bigger screen 😊 Another one to add to my “botanical places to visit” list. I love the idea of the lonely tree or more so comfort tree. Thank you so much to you and Kerri. Love every bit of it ☺️
Here’s to you from California. Outstanding content on Chenshan Botanical Garden! What a dream! Carrie as your guide certainly contributed to the quality of the visit with her expert botanical knowledge… well done. Thank you Sean for guiding us to these wonderful places in the world we never knew about.
Amazing! The greenhouse structures are awesome and all the plants look so well cared for and immaculately arranged, as do the outside areas. Tremendous diversity as well.
This garden was beyond my imagination and I’ve added this to my list of “must” places to visit. Keri is a brilliant young lady and an excellent guide with her unlimited knowledge of the Shenshaw botanical operation. Thank you Sean for another one of your amazing tours!💚
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. The discipline and commitment of the garden staff is admirable and clearly it pays off in how well the displays look and how they are also designed to be educational. While it may be too early to tell since the garden has only been open for 13 years, the director seems to have a long term vision for maintaining the quality for many decades to come. For institutions of this scale there needs to be serious long term planning, and China seems quite capable in that regard. Love that they also focus on getting younger people and children interested, as you say, it would be nice to have gotten into the world of plants from an earlier age. Final random thoughts: I loved the guide's "Cactus" hat. The spination on the large barrel cacti was a little "weak" but the smaller plants looked great and the labels/barcodes were a great touch. That euphorbia aeruginosa clump was gorgeous.
What an absolute amazing place! I can’t imagine what was like in the space. The glass alone is a large piece of art! I’d love if you got to speak with people doing pollination and see what’s behind the scenes!
Thank you for taking us again to a wonderful destination! I need to watch this again to fully absorb everything there can be found. Also the expertise of the guide truly elevates the value of what can be learned from your visit. Also, it is lovely to hear the level of enthusiasm and awe you experience every now and then, it's like a small child finding a gem that meets their imagination.
What a fabulous botanical garden!! I would never want to leave and I am sure you didn't want to either :) Your content is always exceptional. thank you
Wow! I'd love to visit someday : ) I love how the director planted the conifer trees spaced so that they could grow happily up to 100 years in the future. Beautiful!
Thank you so much for this tour. What an amazing place, impressive huge variety of plant around the world. So glad to see the development not only in the major field but also into the horticulture and landscape. Fascinating build and made in China, definitely will be on my visiting list.
Nice. I admire with their appreciation toward plants with no specific target focussing only the rare ones or the varigata ones like we all here in Indonesia. I even don't see any biilitiae varigata or monstera varigata shown. I like the landscape of dinosaurs forest section. It give me inspiration and ideas for my (future) hone garden design. I need to start eyeing encephalartos and cycas more
I visited seven years ago, and it is much more spectacular and impressive today. When I was there it was the second year of opening and to me it was brilliant. Today watching your video, it is even more spectacular, and I need to visit again. Thanks for the video.
Amazingly tour. Thank you so much for sharing. I grew up in China and now living in the UK. I recently established a hobby in plants. Never know about this botanical garden in Shanghai. This is incredible. Next time when I go to China I will definitely pay a visit. ❤
Great coverage of the conservatory! I don’t if you like hiking but if you do, I would like to suggest for you to go on an expedition in your local forest and seek out the indigenous plants of your country that are considered rare houseplants in the west. I am sure that there will be different kinds of epipreniums to see.
At 37.50 she was talking about 'shui shan', latin name: Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Chinese kanji: 水杉, English name: the dawn redwood. Together with Sequoia sempervirens (coast redwood) and Sequoiadendron giganteum (giant sequoia) of California, M. glyptostroboides is classified in the subfamily Sequoioideae of the family Cupressaceae. Although it is the only living species in its genus, three fossil species are known as well. It is the sole living species of the genus Metasequoia, one of three genera in the subfamily Sequoioideae of the family Cupressaceae. It now survives in the wild only in wet lower slopes and montane river and stream valleys in the border region of 3 Chinese provinces. Although the shortest of the redwoods, it can grow to 167 ft (51 m) in height.
I was a little bit skeptical until I saw how amazing this garden is!!! And how well Keri explained everything what really added more charm to the garden. And the efforts behind all these amazing scenes! I definitely will visit Chenshan Botanical Garden when I visit Shanghai again! And thanks a lot Sean!
China does it best! 🇨🇳🏆🥇I really am impressed and inspired! I could spend a month alone admiring the Cacti. Their target group is children and teenagers. Brilliant! I’m so grateful and blessed to be able to raise two very small girls to know/love plants. Thank you Keri, 🙏Xièxiè. Thank you Sean! As always. Perfect!
China does it best! lets not forget this country is a dictature where all opposant are jailed, does not respect human rights and is suspected of genocid, For all these reasons I would not make a video about it.
Stunning Botanical Garden. Thank you for sharing beautiful different species of plants, landscappings and hortculturist as well. Keep up the good work. ♥️
I did my masters degree in architecture designing a botanical garden I hope to see it built someday in Iraq !! This is amazing and inspiring! Thank you for this video 🙏🏻
At 33.15 She gives an example of a very popular orchid in Chinese new year: 大花惠兰 (da hua hui lan) Cymbidium hybrids which produce relatively larger blooms.

You can tell the people who curated these are extremely passionate
Yes I spoke to some of them while walking on the field actually. They were so eager to share their knowledge but I had to keep moving.
