A helmsholt resonator could solve potentially help alot with some of the noise. Would be worth looking into. Tom's Turbo Garage had a great result on his VR4. Video on RUclips.
Love the real results you show in your videos with as little bias as you can have.
The lack of cars is probably the cause more than anything
I miss Tom posting videos
I made a Helmholtz resonator for my own car . Made quite a difference actually.
Id like to see the exhaust note changed to eliminate some of the rasp, if possible. It would be cool to see it do some circuit work to see if the chassis improvements and rigidity will hold up well for that. As the Supras are being used for time attack and circuits it would be fun to see how the Z can hold up against it.
i can already tell there is going to be a love hate relationship with this z'ed
Its zee.
@@zyoungson215 zee z'ed who cares
@@zyoungson215 People will call it what they want
Wait till they try to build the motor with that open deck block. Head lift is the Z killer.
@@zyoungson215 it's actually zed. That's how pronounce "Z" (zed) in the alphabet 🙃
This is the reason I love Nissan sports cars, they know how to evolve a chassis so it just gets better with age but 95% of parts transfer over the generations. Non Nissan car folks look at me in disbelief when I tell them just how many suspension parts I had transferred over between the '90s Nissans I've owned. Like although they behave like completely different cars so many parts can be transferred between an R32 R33 and R34 even some of the Z32 and S chassis parts can be swapped around. It's nice to see they did the same with this generation so the Z35 has a deep aftermarket right out of the gate, with a tunable ECU to boot!
My Q50 Redsport had the same issue, I had to turn off the TCS and the VCS. The Q’s VCS is under the brake pedal. I had to depress the brake pedal, and there is a button that you hold for a few seconds and it will turn off. Silly, I know.
My wife's red sport is fine turn off traction control and it goes up gears doing a burnout love it
@@joeop5104 that’s odd, everyone else I know, unless you turn off the VCS it will kill the power and not allow you to do burnouts.
Z1 Motorsports makes a diff brace for the new Z.
I'm loving the content by the way!
I can't wait to get one for myself.
Seriously mate this type of content is awesome. No bull shit, you tell us what works, what does not work and the trials required to be heading in the right direction.
Awesome work!
That mang nearly sounds as good as an eco tech!
I think it sounds fine. People don't like the sound?
“But first, what does it sound like”
Me: turn down volume 2 clicks
*exhaust rev and dyno run scene*
Me: mutes volume
🤮
The tune and exhaust seems to liven it up for street use. I’m not after huge power but also good to see how far it can be pushed.
i cant help but think a single exit would have sounded better. this thing sounds alot worse than i though it would.
It sounds crap like most v6, as long as the manifold is designed around best fitment it will continue to sound like that. With an equal length manifold it will be as good as an inline 6 but until then the best exhaust is the quietest one 😅
Press the brake light switch while pushing the brake pedal, it will disable all the stability control system. Also when you restart it. It will do a system recheck and everything will be back to normal.
That gurgling sound out of the mufflers as the revs drop is horrible. Hope that can be fixed.
If you can get the car to hook I would think that mph is enough to be in the 10 second territory
I would love to see you guys use the new HKS HIPERMAX S coilovers, HKS makes amazing products & I would love to see a review on their coilovers.
We work with Shockworks. They build it to suit us, not generic off the shelf. We have no offical association with HKS, so would have to buy them at full price. Video wouldn’t get enough views to pay for the coilovers, let alone the labour, filming and editing.
Sounds like a 3.8 Commie..
I have a Ecutek tuned 2019 Infiniti Q50 3.0t here in U.S. in Texas. 93 fuel, AMS airbox kit, heat exchanger upgrade, Magnaflow 2.5 dual pipe cbe x-pipe but elected to keep my factory downpipes. I dyno around 445 to 450 rwhp. I also have installed the rear subframe bushing collars plus I have a somewhat good differential brace.
I run my car on the street/bare concrete. Traction as you know with this motor's little, fast spooling turbos and only rwd is a joke. Even with my soft Toyo R888R 285 width, 100 treadwear rear tires. With Ecutek launch control, which is nothing related to helping put power down (as when i got tuned mid 2020). For thise unfamiliar, LC allows more boost to be built up with no rpm cut but mostly allows more tire smoke/spin hence no "control". But does provide me my best 0-60 mph and 60foot .
Here in the U.S.A, my 3.0t is nothing special. People here have plenty of 500whp to 650whp infiniti/nissan V6 3.0t cars.
What my basic tuned Q50 runs per the Dragy GPS device on everyday concrete with my Toyo R888R UHP tire is 3.85 sec 0-60 mph best and 1.87 60 foot. After 5 feet off the line from launch my tires spin the entire rest of 1st gear so I feel this is pretty good for basically a tuned Infiniti Q50 spinning its wheels.
If I could justify buying new 17" diameter wheels (I run 19" wheels) and 275-285 Micky Thompson E.T. Street R drag radial, proper tires, maybe get it down to low 3.7 sec 0-60 mph and 1.67- 1.72 60 foot on the casual street with no roll out. Until i spend the $2000 dollars for additional wheel/tire , I've given up trying to launch this car. It's just frustrating and disappointing.. The auto trans ( TCM tuning) part ( 7-speed Jatco with torque converter) needs to be tunable in a massive way which last I heard, still isn't tunable. This would be great if we could tune the trans.
Would a line locker freak out the ABS/traction control? Because it would work mechanically, but I'd expect a whole bunch of "DANGER TO MANIFOLD" happening in the ECU because the front wheels are stationary and rears are going rather fast
I hope you guys can get this thing in the 10s
Everyone is doing drag stuff with this car. Let's see what incremental suspension upgrades can do on a road course.
Modification I want to see, the difference between a full air to air vs air to water intercooler
We will be doing that as well. Soon.
This car sounds pretty terrible like a lot modern cars these days but at least it's not loud and droney. As a nissan, toyota and hyundai owner I feel like the manual supra is a big upgrade over this car, it's lighter and has a better chassis and engine. In terms of modifications what I'd like to see is how much weight you can pull out of this car to make it lighter without compromising it's function as street car. I'm a bit disappointed at how little progress nissan has made in the last 20 years with their sport cars. If nissan was still building great sport cars I'd buy another one for sure.
To do a burnout in the 370z at the dragstrip and turn off VDC completely I would remove the Stop Lamp Fuse. Maybe the new Z is the same? I am very interested in finding out.
I can't believe they stuck the same exact exhaust (appears to be anyway) as I had on my 2011 370Z. I gained 20hp putting a 2.5 inch dual exhaust. Same 1.75" piping on the 2023 Zed...
Interesting but can you tell me if it's a little raspy between 3000/4000 rpm 🤔😁😜
I’m not sure how they got so much right and wrong at the same time with this car. I love the look and turbo V6, but why would anyone want a RWD 400hp car that can’t do a factory burnout? Why would they put such soft suspension from the factory the car is outright unusable on the track? These are such easy fixes for designers. For 50k + mods, easily into the 55-60k range to get a functional car, I just don’t see the value proposition in the Z platform anymore. Hopefully I’m proven wrong as time goes on.
When did cars stop coming with buttons to turn traction control off? That's bs, epically in a sports car. Hell, even my dad's old Saturn had a button. And it was actually useful, turning off TC could help in the snow.
this was refreshing , most mainstream guys that only want brands and muffler systems wont take my advice they seem to think one size pipes is the only way to do a set up and if you deviate and innovate some how you are wrong . i did this with my civic to stop the known issues that plague Honda products and i dont even have a muffler a the back. ditch the muffler in the back and i bet you gonna get an even better sound , maybe experiment with mixing metal thickness ....
Long tube headers would be cool but unfortunately this car engine were integrated manifold
1st not ANY car should have, even NA, is oil catch can(s).
Would a line lock help, is it just seeing brake switch on and then won't let you go full throttle with brake switch on basically?
It potentially would, but ABS would freak out so might go haywire.
we are working on a solution
Why not just spend some money and get decent 295 better brand tyres?
some raspie will go when that large exhaust fills with carbon
Have you tried a switch to cut the brake switch output ? Could be a simple solution
as they said they want to fix it properly in the ecu, besides the ecu is basically shutting the engine down, not applying the breaks. Otherwise it's prob like the 370z's where you just flick the switch on the abs module.
Do you have a part number for the turbo smart blow-off valves you run?
Should have went 76mm from the turbos back
Z 9 speed ran 11.08 with 93 tune only
With all that traffic he should keep his eyes on the road.
The guy I saw on RUclips getting 11.4 with stock, new tires and tune, was on a drag strip with official clocks. Maybe it's a right hand drive problem. 😂 Channel was zillafullboost.
Was his manual?
Sell it Hawkins and buy a manual Supra
Rather another auto supra. Manual will be way slower and annoying in Sydney traffic
@@MotiveVideo yep I love my auto mk5.
I'm looking forward to the track test.
Any lightening of the car attempted?
I think it could use some resonators to dampen the rumble a bit. Other than that it sounds good.
It has a resonator and muffler already. Any more and would be no noise at idle and high rpm
@@MotiveVideo varex ?
The rear subframe looks cheap n weak asf.
Try some Michelin tyres. That should help alot with a quicker 60' time.
Take off drag radials to put street tyres on to go quicker at dragstrip 🤔
Nice to see the Z again! Sounds great!
And still sounds bad on throttle :(
Such a cool car! Definitely nothing pulling power on the track? Might be worthwhile logging the pass and seeing what it’s doing.
115mph at 3300lb is like 300hp territory. Not 400+
Like a dead stock FG ZF at 300rwhp will go 12.6 at 113. So something clearly holding it back mph wise.
Glad the axle tramp is somewhat corrected. The thing was proper violent before.
The R35 has the same issue with brake and throttle, don’t know if it will work on the 400Z but I installed a manual switch on the brake pedal switch so I can turn off the brake pedal sensing. This allows me to brake boost in the GTR, maybe the same will work in 400Z?
"Raspyness" - resonant frequency. Helmholtz resonator will eliminate this resonance, but, the exhaust shop should be aware of this also.
Put some drag radials on it lol
Any updates on the burn out ecu mod and full exhaust from CRD?
Nope
Well the VR being from the vq architecture and it being 3.0l compared to the 3.8l, those exhaust nots makes sense.
Your car can hook 800whp on the street with the correct mods with not too much trouble. Up above 800whp is becomes a challenge. On the drag strip, 17in welds and 305/45/17 slicks work well. They will fit right over the rear sport brakes with no problem.
Dude all you have to do is hold the brake pedal down, find the button that controls the brake lights on the pedal, hold it for like 10 seconds, and boom. No more traction or stability control.
Super Mang or New Z they are just as quick? 😂 Jokes, cool development. Keep it up.
I did a dual exhaust on my G37. From the cats the piping was 2.5” to a “resonated x-pipe”. Dual 2.5” piping all the way back to 2 4”x9” mufflers with the stock tips. It sounded almost stock at idle, heavy throttle activated beast mode with no rasp.
I can hardly believe it makes that power and went a 12.5 in the quarter mile with exhaust that restrictive! That’s nuts. A proper exhaust will do that thing wonders!
If you want it to bark, but no drone for cruise, use Hemholtz pipes. Look how Goodwin Racing does it
Great video Andrew. Thank you
I think you may have already answered the questions as for what power mod is worth doing for the future general owner of a 400Z that will in 99% cases never drag race it.
Leave all the hardware alone. Only have the ECU tuned.
You'll sort out the burnout thing, eventually someone will find it. The N54 ecu platform is still developing after 15 years so it's early days on this 👍
The exhaust style is more like 350z and r35. Dual single to dual. Which sounds so much better to me. Than the stock style dual exhaust that others have done.
Always love the motive vids
Worth giving it a shot, if u give the car throttle whilst on the brake, and dumping the clutch, will it continue spinning? I know Toyotas (modern) if you try and do a rolling skid, it cuts the throttle, but if you do a standstill and you can keep it spinning without issue, vehicle will allow it.
I quite like the sound of it actually, never a fan of the R35 and the NA 6s bark a bit??, this sounds in between, nice.
helmholtz resonators at the downpipe end, and possibly another two 16" resonator cans on the mid-section of the exhaust system to kill off the rasp+drone
Thanks for the video's on the Z brother, i think you've convinced me to stick with a Euro badge and my AMG's!
So is it fair to say unless you’re changing turbos an exhaust is mostly for the sound rather than the power? Or do you feel that the EGT drop would also be valuable at the track? I like the idea of modern cars not needing an exhaust, it simplifies things a lot for people who just want to drive the thing.
I'm curious to see how it behaves though corners on a track. They're a bit heavier than a 370z right? are they well balanced?
Who made the muffler?
Fresh car, early adopter problems. Hopefully you can sort it out soon. 320rwkw is enough to go well into the 11s. No doubt the car is capable. Would love to see do some roll racing as well.
Another good option for downpipes are Boosted 6 Auto. We have resonated and non resonated available.
sounds very similar to a VG30dett at the bottom and top end.
You can probably run a basic wiring harness to the brake lights and disconnect the brake light switch to the factory harness.
Nice job. Good to see proper tuning and r&d. Keep up the good work !!. Way too many hacks out there !!
I say get the air to air kit from Bonnie and Clyde for reliability and consistency. E85 on this car will make it a monster as well but that's crazy what you need for that. The VR30 is slept on and it can make 1000hp on stock block. Also love the launch at 10:15 !! Great job!!
Why bother! Buy a Supra. Better in every way
@@davothegreat9990 Modify nissans vs bone stock are a major difference. Sure the Supra is better but im just Nissan bias. I really like both cars though.
@@davothegreat9990a 40k base z with proper modification to 60k which is the Supra base price, is far better. You’ll get suspension, far more power, and it sounds better.
A2a kit is too expensive for very mild gains. Best thing to do is to get z1 waterpump, ams race heat exchanger, coolant additive(lower temps), and the minimum coolant. Little revere coolant+ better flow, plus massive heat exchanger allowed for better heat transfer and dramatically decreases heat soak.
@@2seep 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Base Z is rubbish even with the extra cash. Still can't beat the lighter car, better b58 and better zf8 transmission.
Circuit please. and weight reduction.
We will be doing circuit. But no weight reduction. We didnt buy a 90K car to not be able to enjoy it on the road..
Put Hert behind a wheel
Better resonators will help with the v6 raspy notes. Depending on your personal preferences
We just wanna see the nav and the build on it hahahah when you getting 7n 5 inch lift and 35s and dpf delete hahah
Ugh. Still has that infamous Z rasp even with turbos
$7k to get into the corn on one of these things? Jesus.
Sounds like running it on full E85. He can likely do 20-30% blend with pump gas. It would make a serious horsepower bump.
How much hp can handle the stock vr38?🤔
Sounds a lot better now, I like that raspy sound. Just a shame it ends so quickly. 🤷
Thanks for a good channel.. Best regards Martin Denmark.
Air to air kit
5:42 The “I don’t understand what you’re doing” look 🤣
You need to go do some donuts before trying to run a quarter mile time 😆
I use an pathfinder diff cover, uses two bolts instead on one
So you guys used 370z coils? Are there any issues?
370 and Z are same chassis
The Coilovers were made to suit extra weight and power of Z
@MotiveVideo in the philippines there a lot of stuff for 370 but none for the new z. I want to lower my car but need to order it. And i just cant wait! Hahaha
The old l67 at carnage is worth the same 😅
muffler/ reso from Haks and Arthur?
Id like to see how quick the Z goes around the GP circuit at SMSP. Maybe even Luddenham too.
We’ll get there.
I'm sure a similar exhaust setup as the Motordyne or Ark exhausts for the z33/z34 platform would make it sound a lot better. Helmholtz resonators do wonders for the VQ platform, and by the sounds of it, would help the new Z as well
The best exhaust for the vr30 is a borla exhaust. 0 rasp, 0 drone, and excellent sound.
Get a line lock for the front brakes, you can be completely off the brake pedal while doing a burnout.
With abs you would need 2 wouldn't you?
Any updates?
If there was, it would be on our channel
great proggress. keep at it
excited to see where you all take it
Word of the day... "Raspiness". Great info for new owners! Great work. Do diff mounts usually accentuate whine on all cars?
Yeah, them and subframe collars always increase road noise and diff whine
@@MotiveVideo tbh I didn't notice much of a difference in noise at all when installing subframe collars in my s15, although it already had a 2 way lsd and coilovers. solid diff mounts seem to drastically add noise comparatively
